Yamcha (ヤムチャ Yamucha) is a main protagonist in the Dragon Ball manga and in the anime Dragon Ball, and later a supporting protagonist in Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball Super, with a few appearances in Dragon Ball GT. He is a former boyfriend of Bulma and the lifelong best friend of Puar.
A former desert bandit, Yamcha was once an enemy of Goku, but quickly reformed and became a friend and ally.[10] Brave, boastful and dependable, Yamcha is a very talented martial artist and one of the most powerful humans on Earth, possessing skills and traits that allow him to fight alongside his fellow Z Fighters when major threats loom. Although he retired by the latter half of Dragon Ball Z, due to being largely outclassed by both his allies (namely the Saiyans) and their enemies, he is always present whenever a new threat approaches, and will occasionally lend a helping hand, thus proving himself to be a powerful ally in his own right.[11]
Appearance

Yamcha's appearance changes throughout the series, mainly his clothes and hairstyle.[12][13] Yamcha started out the series with long hair and bangs. After settling down in the city, he cut his hair to fit in. Later on, he would grow his hair out again and eventually cut short to a spikier hairstyle and completely short before growing his hair out once again. Several of Yamcha's hairstyles are also used by Gohan at various points in his life.[14] Another of Yamcha's most significant appearance changes were the mysterious scars he got sometime during his three years training for the 23rd World Martial Arts Tournament. According to Android 19's scanner, Yamcha is 183 centimeters tall and weighs 68 kilograms during the Androids Saga.[5] The first kanji Yamcha has on his clothes 楽 (raku) stands for "comfort" or "easy"; there is no real meaning behind it other than he just enjoys being comfortable.[15] After training with Master Roshi, he takes the "turtle" or "Kame" kanji "亀" as a sign of respect. Later, after training with King Kai, he wears both "Kame and "Kai" kanji. He wears them the opposite way Goku did ("Kame" on the back and "Kai" on the chest), except in Dragon Ball Z: The Tree of Might where he wears the "Kai" kanji on the back and "Kame" on the chest.[16] Yamcha sometimes wears a white martial arts outfit with black trousers that bears a striking resemblance to the outfit worn by Bruce Lee during his fight with O'Hara in the film Enter the Dragon, as shown during one of his brief appearances in the Red Ribbon Army Saga and in the movie Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods (an outfit similar is also worn by Tsukutsun Tsun in the Dr. Slump remake). In the Majin Buu saga, Yamcha wears a yellow suit jacket along with a white long-sleeved shirt and black shoes. At the end of Dragon Ball Z and throughout Dragon Ball GT, Yamcha now has his hair long again and wears it in a ponytail and retains the same outfit that he wore in the Majin Buu Saga as his undershirt are now sleeveless.
In Dragon Ball Super, Yamcha's outfit is a white martial arts with gray trousers (which is exactly the same attire he wore in the movie Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods). His hair is almost the same style as the one he had during the Saiyan Saga and Frieza Saga, with the long sideburns he had during his introduction in the Emperor Pilaf Saga. During the Galactic Patrol Prisoner Saga, he wears Turtle School Uniform marked with the Galactic Patrol symbol while acting as temporarily deputized member of the Galactic Patrol.
When Akira Toriyama decided to create Dragon Ball, he used Wu Cheng'en's Journey to the West as a prototype for his own series.[17] Yamcha is most likely based on Sha Wujing, also known as Sha Seng and Sha Heshang, from this novel.[18] Both are powerful bandits who are associated with sand, (Yamcha from a sandy desert, Sha from a sand river), who reform and join the heroes on their quest.
Personality

Yamcha is originally characterized as a deadly warrior, who fears nothing but talking to women. After befriending Goku and the others, his personality remains mostly the same, but becomes very caring and considerate of the people he protects. He is showcased as a courageous warrior who strives to be the best, but is unable to reach this status, a fact that appears to plague him. He has a great network of information, recognizing Goku's Power Pole as Grandpa Gohan's during their first fight.
Yamcha is a huge fan of the World Martial Arts Tournament and has always wanted to compete and someday win.[19] It is likely this is why he has knowledge of famous fighters like Grandpa Gohan, Monster Carrot, Bacterian and King Chappa. Whenever the tournament date neared, Yamcha would always go through vigorous training and invent a new technique like the Blinding Wolf Fang Fist, Neo Wolf Fang Fist and the Spirit Ball. He is the second fighter to learn the Kamehameha since the beginning of Dragon Ball (after Goku).
Yamcha during the Androids Saga
In early Dragon Ball Z, he shows great pride in defending Earth from the Saiyans, willing to put his life on the line to stop them; which he evidently does. Although he is killed, he dies a hero's death. After returning from the dead, he prepares to battle the Androids. In early Dragon Ball, Yamcha had a fear of women and tended to get terrified at the sight and touch of a woman, although he seemingly got over this after meeting Bulma when they were 16. They have an on-and-off again relationship for several years and despite her supposed mistreatment towards him, he still loved her. However, while the specifics are unknown, Bulma felt Yamcha was interested in other women. During the three years prior to the Androids' arrival, he and Bulma break up for good (though they remain friends) and she ends up with Vegeta, which frustrated him, especially at Vegeta for fathering her son, Trunks. His resentment towards Vegeta is apparent in the Androids Saga and Cell Games Saga, as he speaks bitterly that he is not Trunks' father and mocked Vegeta for being beaten by Cell. However, after seeing Vegeta's emotional reaction to Future Trunks' death, Yamcha forgave him and is later seen being friendly with Vegeta. Yamcha is also on good terms with Trunks and tells Future Trunks that his father really loved him.[20] After being nearly killed by Dr. Gero, he takes more of a comical approach and becomes largely outmatched in battle due to the ever-growing power of the enemies the Z Fighters face. It appears whatever passion and resolve for fighting he had disappears with the emergence of the Super Saiyans, who severely outclass him in fighting ability and he eventually comes to accept this. After realizing that his enemies severely overpower him, unlike Tien, who wishes to fight despite the odds, Yamcha accepts that his contribution would be futile, and instead opts to stand aside and keep watch, instead of engaging in combat. Despite this fact, he remains a trusted ally and will fight on occasion when needed. During the latter half of Dragon Ball Z, he retires from fighting, but continues training and goes off on his own.
In Dragon Ball Super, it is revealed Yamcha actually has grown stronger and has been training. However, he uses his strength for baseball rather than fighting at this time. During the Universal Survival Saga, Yamcha overhears Goku and Gohan's conversation, which implies that his passion for fighting still lingers especially in the upcoming Tournament of Power (although he plans to refuse their offer at first and then show up at the last minute to make a flashy entrance). When learning that he wasn't picked as a member for the Universe 7 team, Yamcha doesn't take it personally and wishes them luck at the Battle Royal - which proved ultimately true as he shows up at Bulma's party in a joyful mood after the Tournament of Power ended. In the Galactic Patrol Prisoner Saga, Yamcha returns to the battlefield and is excited to help defend Earth from Moro's Galactic Brigade. When up against 3 Moro Corps' members (one of whom labeled him as being weak), he corrects them by saying that he's one of the three strongest Earthlings, showcasing his pride of being a powerful Earthling martial artist.

Yamcha expressed a strong desire to get married, which was the reason why he wanted to cure his fear of women.[21] He also expressed excitement at the thought of starting a family.[22] The Dragon Ball: Bouken Special book, released during the King Piccolo Saga, says he is nervous around women except for Bulma and in a section where Bulma dresses up in different outfits suggested by the main cast, Yamcha's suggestion is a Wedding Dress (at the time he and Bulma were still a couple). In the manga, Future Trunks states during the Trunks Saga, that Yamcha was "too non-committal" which caused Bulma to break up with him in his timeline.
In Dragon Ball FighterZ, in a special event with Goku and Krillin, Yamcha admits that he wishes to get married someday and is somewhat envious of his married friends. In another conversation with Krillin, he notes that Android 21 is attractive and due to a mistaken assumptions on his part he ends up teasing Krillin whom he assumes has thing for female Androids like 18 and 21. Like Krillin, he is too terrified to turn around when they sense that Android 18 had overheard Yamcha's careless remarks and decide instead to focus on fighting the enemy hoping 18 will go easy on them after the fight.
Future Trunks states that after Bulma and Yamcha broke up, Yamcha found a new girlfriend. Although she never appeared in any Dragon Ball media, Yamcha's new girlfriend is mentioned at the end of the Cell Games Saga, when Shenron asks for a wish and Yamcha jokingly proposes he wish for a necklace for his girlfriend. Despite originally saying it was his dream to get married and Trunks saying that his future counterpart found love again, Yamcha appears to be single in Dragon Ball Super and Dragon Ball GT.
In Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, it is revealed that around the time of the Saiyan Saga, Yamcha had been dating several women before his death and during a Sub Story "Yamcha's Alive?!", it is revealed that Puar had been shapeshifting into Yamcha to keep up the appearance to Yamcha's girlfriends that he was still alive though Puar is more of a gentleman which caused trouble with some of Yamcha's girlfriends who preferred Yamcha's personality. Yamcha himself is revealed to not have a problem with Puar's acting as him as he told Krillin to give Puar the name's of some girls he wanted Puar to go on dates with as him until he was revived if he died.

Yamcha was born on March 20, Age 733. He met Puar in Age 747, two years before the Emperor Pilaf Saga takes place.
Dragon Ball
Emperor Pilaf Saga

Yamcha battles Goku
Yamcha is introduced in the Emperor Pilaf Saga as a 16 year old bandit that lives in Diablo Desert along with his companion, an anthropomorphic cat named Puar, and robs travelers who pass through. He ambushed Goku, Bulma and Oolong in order to steal their money and capsules. When challenged by Goku, they fought, with Yamcha using his signature technique, the Wolf Fang Fist, seemingly knocking Goku out. However, it only injured Goku. Then, Goku starts to have the disadvantage when he starts to get hungry, which drains his power. As Yamcha was about to defeat Goku, he spots Bulma and makes his retreat, due to his extreme fear of women. Yamcha returned to their camp that night and, while spying on them, learned of the Dragon Balls and their ability to grant a wish. He then decided to steal their Dragon Balls and make a wish to overcome his phobia, as he dreams of getting married. He and his companion Puar broke into the group's van that night to do so, but were foiled when the orbs under the sheet which Yamcha thought were Dragon Balls were actually the breasts of a nude and sleeping Bulma, causing him to leave in a confused daze. He attacked again the following day, by knocking over the group's van with a panzerfaust, but was again challenged by Goku and retreated when Goku damaged his vanity by knocking one of his teeth out. Yamcha's attack to the wagon had still done its damage so Goku's group was forced to leave it behind and walk. As Shu had earlier planted a bomb in the van which exploded shortly after it was abandoned, Yamcha's actions had inadvertently saved Goku.
Yamcha eavesdrops on Goku and Oolong's conversation and learns of the Dragon Balls
Realizing that he could not beat Goku, Yamcha instead decided to let the group collect all seven balls and then take the wish. He again came to the group, this time apologizing for his behavior, and gave them a car to make up for damaging their van. The car, of course, had a tracking device in it.
Yamcha knocks Chi-Chi out
While on the group's trail, Yamcha encounters a mysterious girl who destroyed a T-Rex and was frightened by Yamcha and attacks him, causing him to retaliate and knock her out. Later, when eavesdropping on Goku's conversation with Ox-King, he realizes that the girl is Chi-Chi, Ox-King's daughter. Not wanting to face the wrath of an angry Ox-King, Yamcha races back to the scene and apologizes to Chi-Chi, saying he did what he did because he is crazy with love for her. He quickly hides when he sees Goku coming and, by luck, witnesses Chi-Chi pull Goku's tail, exposing his weak spot. Yamcha returns to Fire Mountain and remains hidden as Goku returns with Chi-Chi and Master Roshi, the legendary martial arts master who trained both Ox-King and Goku's grandfather, Grandpa Gohan. He is awed by Master Roshi's display of the Kamehameha, an energy wave Master Roshi used with the intention of putting out the massive fire at Ox-King's residence, but instead, destroyed the castle and the entire mountain it was on. He also can not help, but be somewhat envious after Goku is chosen by Master Roshi to be his disciple.
Yamcha comes to Goku's aid against the Rabbit Mob
Yamcha continues to tail the group, letting it slip in front of Puar he thinks Bulma has a beautiful voice, after they recover the sixth Dragon Ball from Ox-King into a remote village. There, he has to intervene and help Goku after Bulma is turned into a carrot by Monster Carrot, leader of the Rabbit Mob. He orders Puar to turn into a bird and rescue the hostage carrot-Bulma while he takes out Monster Carrot's two henchmen. Working with Goku, the two recover carrot Bulma and through Puar's trickery get Monster Carrot to change her back. Yamcha quickly hides again after this, letting Goku deal with the gang without having to worry about Bulma's safety. While watching Bulma's disappointment at his absence, Yamcha silently curses his shyness around her.

When Shu ambushes Goku, Bulma and Oolong, stealing five of their six balls along with destroying their car with his Pilaf Machine, Yamcha has to again intervene, this time joining the group. They track the balls to Pilaf's Castle, but are soon trapped. From a hole blasted in the wall by Goku they witness Emperor Pilaf summoning Shenron and Yamcha orders Puar to go with Oolong and stop it. Emperor Pilaf's wish is interrupted by Oolong and, as punishment, the group is moved into a giant solar-oven like cell to die the next day when the sun comes up; they are not contained long though before Goku transforms into a Great Ape and destroys their cell by the light of the full moon.
Yamcha puts aside his timidness around girls to save the group
To get the group to safety, Yamcha is forced to pick up Bulma despite his girl phobia. Just as Goku is about to crush Bulma, pinned by some rubble, Yamcha comes to the rescue and grabs his tail, stunning him long enough for Puar to transform into a giant pair of scissors and cut the tail off, returning Goku to his normal state. The next morning, with the balls now inert, the gang goes their separate ways. Yamcha and Bulma are satisfied though, as they now have each other and, therefore, no need to make any wishes. They go with Bulma back to the city while Goku goes off to train with Master Roshi.
Tournament Saga

Yamcha in the 21st World Martial Arts Tournament
Excited about the Martial Arts Tournament, Yamcha goes to the wilderness to hone his skills. After a month Yamcha returns and saves Bulma from getting hit by a truck. Bulma does not recognize Yamcha at first due to his beard and disheveled appearance. When she does realize its him she is both happy and annoyed that he did not call or contact her during his long absence.
Yamcha next meets up with Goku at the 21st World Martial Arts Tournament where he says he had a haircut at Bulma's request. Yamcha makes it to the quarter-finals, but is eliminated by Jackie Chun, who dodges all of Yamcha's attacks and knocks him out of the ring by creating a powerful wind with a hand chop. This level of power, along with the physical likeness, causes Yamcha to suspect Jackie Chun is Master Roshi in disguise, before Roshi solicits Nam to wear a fake beard and convince Yamcha that he is not Roshi.

When Goku sees the full moon and turns into a Great Ape during his battle with Jackie Chun, Jackie Chun fires a MAX Power Kamehameha in the ape's direction despite Yamcha's desperate attempt to stop Chun. When the smoke clears, Goku is nowhere to be found, and Yamcha and his friends start to cry. Fortunately, it turns out Goku was just knocked out asleep. After Jackie Chun wins the tournament, Yamcha and the others celebrate by going out to dinner on Roshi's tab.
Red Ribbon Army Saga

Yamcha and the gang just before their encounter with Hasky
After the tournament, Yamcha returns to West City with Bulma and the others. Bulma gets angry at him because the other girls in the city are all over him. When Goku was flying on the Nimbus on a tour to West city, he (and Bulma through the Micro Band) comes across Yamcha, Oolong, and Puar. Oolong and Puar tell Goku that Bulma has been treating Yamcha badly. Yamcha says this is true, but he still likes her. Bulma resizes herself after hearing these comments, gets angry at Yamcha again, and heads alone to the Dream Land amusement park. Yamcha is upset by this, but goes with Goku, Oolong, and Puar to the amusement park anyway. On the way, the two save a fortune teller from thugs. However, it is actually Hasky, a thief hired by the Red Ribbon Army to take the Dragon Balls. Hasky has a bunch of failed attempts to steal the Dragon Balls, but no one catches on.
Hasky attempts to seduce Yamcha
Eventually Goku leaves the Dragon Ball with Yamcha. Seeing her chance, Hasky attempts to seduce him, but Yamcha finds out she's a fake by coming across the real fortune teller. Hasky attacks Yamcha with a sword and he fights her off. Unfortunately, Bulma comes across them and in her view it looks like the two are kissing. Bulma hurls a cabinet at Yamcha right as he just beat Hasky and stomps off. This allowed Hasky to tie up Yamcha and take the Dragon Balls, but not before revealing she planted a bomb in the park. Yamcha later helps Goku take care of Hasky, get the Dragon Balls back, and defuse the bomb.
But due to the incident with Bulma, Yamcha's already strained relationship with her was strained even further and she left with Goku to find a new boyfriend with the Dragon Balls.
Later on, after Goku defeats the entire Red Ribbon Army, Yamcha and the rest of the gang rush to help him in a helicopter, but they learned that their help ultimately proved unnecessary because Goku finished them off without them.
Fortuneteller Baba Saga

Yamcha fighting See-Through covered in Master Roshi's blood
Yamcha decides to accompany Goku and travels with him to see Fortuneteller Baba at her palace to learn the location of the last Dragon Ball to revive Upa's father, Bora. Fortuneteller Baba does not give readings free though and will only do it after her five warriors are beaten. Yamcha faces her second warrior, See-Through the Invisible Man.
Unable to see his opponent, Yamcha is unable to land a blow and is getting damaged. Yamcha then figures he can locate his opponent by sound of his footsteps, which initially works in allowing to land blows on the Invisible Man, but is foiled when Fortuneteller Baba starts singing to cover the noise made by the Invisible Man. Krillin thinks quickly though; he asks Goku to bring both Bulma and Master Roshi to the ring and then flashes Bulma's breasts to Master Roshi, causing him to have a massive nose bleed which covers the Invisible Man in blood. With his opponent now visible, Yamcha uses his Wolf Fang Fist and quickly dispatches him.
Yamcha loses against Bandages the Mummy
Fortuneteller Baba then takes the warriors to a new ring, the Devil's Toilet which has a thin platform over a pool of powerful acid. In this arena Yamcha battles his next opponent, Bandages the Mummy, who is both a fast and strong mummy. Things look bad for Yamcha until he manages a quick sneak attack, tripping Bandages the Mummy off the ledge; though it is proved futile as Bandages the Mummy is able to use his bandages like a rope and climb his way back up. They fight again, and again Yamcha is pummeled until he is held up by his neck before being tossed down towards the acid. Fortunately, Goku intervened and saved him with his Power Pole.
Goku takes over the fighting at this point and defeats Bandages the Mummy with one hit, as well as the rest of Fortuneteller Baba's fighters. It is not in vain for Yamcha though, as Master Roshi accepts him to become one of his students.
Tien Shinhan Saga

Three years later, Yamcha competes in the 22nd World Martial Arts Tournament. While in the preliminaries he has confrontational words with Tien Shinhan, the prize student of a rival school, who mocks Yamcha and claims he will destroy Yamcha in the ring. When the finals are about to begin, Tien has his friend Chiaotzu use his psychic powers to fix the fight schedule numbering so that he and Yamcha face off first in the quarterfinals.
Yamcha battles Tien
At the start of their fight, they seem to be trading an equal number of blows. Yamcha then attempts his Wolf Fang Blowing Wind, but it is beaten by Tien who parries the assault and counters with a quick punch to Yamcha's gut. Yamcha decides to go all out and utilizes, to everyone's surprise, the Kamehameha; this is stopped by Tien who reflects the attack back at Yamcha with a Kiai, making Yamcha jump into the air. Tien also jumps and kicks Yamcha, knocking him out. However, Tien does not stop at that. Tien then shatters the unconscious Yamcha's leg with a diving knee attack. (Note that this is Yamcha's only tournament match where he is defeated by KO rather than ring-out).
Yamcha and Tien become friends
Yamcha is eliminated by KO and goes to the local hospital with Puar turning into a carpet for Yamcha to lie on. In hospital for the rest of the competition, Yamcha listens to the remainder of the fights on the radio, and manages to be there for the fight between Goku and Tien. When Tien wins and decides to turn over a new leaf due to Roshi's advice, Yamcha is one of the first to clap for him. Later, when a reformed Tien apologizes for the unnecessary beating, Yamcha says bones can always grow back and that he awaits their next bout. The two then forge a friendly rivalry and promise to meet again at the next tournament.
King Piccolo Saga

Yamcha's fight against Tambourine
Due to his injuries, Yamcha spends the majority time on the sidelines. He is powerless to intervene as first Krillin, followed by Master Roshi, and then Chiaotzu are killed by King Piccolo. Tambourine attacks Yamcha and they battle at the Training Island. In part due to Yamcha's injured leg, Tambourine gets the upper hand, but Yamcha is luckily saved from death when King Piccolo calls Tambourine to go after Cymbal's killer. When he learns of King Piccolo's takeover of the world capital, as well as Tien's seemingly suicidal mission to take him out, Yamcha joins in and races to the scene. He arrives with Bulma and Launch only to find it a desolate wasteland. They soon encounter a battered Tien who fills them in that Goku's actually alive and defeated the Demon King (although they heard on radio that "a small boy" was fighting Piccolo and deduced that it must be Goku, Tien gave them confirmation); Yamcha then assists Tien in getting back to the Kame House to recover.
Yamcha helps defend the Kame House
Not long after, Goku quickly bursts in and announces that he is training with Kami before taking off again after recovering his Power Pole. This knowledge causes Yamcha to redouble his preparation for the next World Martial Arts Tournament.
Yamcha trains along with Tien and the resurrected Krillin and Chiaotzu until Master Roshi informed them that, to be able to reach Goku's level of power, they are going to need to find better ways to train than those available at the Kame House. After that, they all head to Korin Tower and train with Korin before each going their own separate way in preparing for the next, 23rd World Martial Arts Tournament.
Piccolo Jr. Saga

Yamcha appears with scars for the first time
Yamcha next meets with the group at the 23rd World Martial Arts Tournament, he has trained for the last three years for this tournament (earning his trademark scars in the process) and looks forward to the fights.
Yamcha is present when Goku reunites with an adult Chi-Chi and like the others did not recognize her as an adult. After Goku remembered his proposal to Chi-Chi, she apologized to Yamcha for not marrying him (referring to Yamcha's false love confession), making Bulma angry at him.
Yamcha's humiliating match against Hero
Yamcha makes it to the quarter-finals and must contend with a nerdy human named Hero and finds himself injured by what seem like accidental clumsy mistakes made by his opponent (like getting kicked in the kidney after Hero supposedly tripped, and landing on the back of Hero's head, hurting his groin). When they both state that they will fight seriously, Hero proves to be a fighter in a class well beyond Yamcha and quickly counters every move Yamcha makes. In desperation Yamcha uses his secret weapon, the Spirit Ball, a powerful ball of guided energy. While it proves to be an effective attack, it is ultimately futile as Hero (who is actually Kami) recovers from being hit with it and knocks Yamcha out of the ring. At the end of the match Yamcha is oddly calm and congratulates Hero on his win. Hero says Yamcha has great skill and potential but needs to work on his focus and defense.
Yamcha can only watch from there on out, in awe at the massive power displayed in the fight between Goku and Piccolo Jr. at which he is powerless to intervene. When Goku eventually does defeat Piccolo Jr., Yamcha joins the others in celebrating his victory.
Dragon Ball Z
Saiyan Saga

Yamcha as a baseball player for the Taitans
Over the next five years, Yamcha retired from fighting and became a baseball player on the team called the "Taitans", wearing number 00. Despite being the best player, he still longed for the days of being a fighter.
After Goku sacrifices his life to defeat Raditz, Yamcha is summoned along with Tien, Chiaotzu, Krillin and Yajirobe to train at The Lookout for the battle against Vegeta and Nappa. Yamcha and the rest of the Z Fighters get an experience of how truly powerful Saiyans are when they use the Pendulum Room to transport their minds back in time to Planet Vegeta 100 years in the past. Yamcha and the rest of the Z Fighters are easily defeated by the might of Scarface and Shorty, despite Yamcha firing his most powerful attack, the Super Spirit Ball during the battle. When they are transported back to the Pendulum Room, Yamcha and the rest of the Z Fighters feel incredible fear and woe, now promising Mr. Popo they will get as strong as possible to defeat Nappa and Vegeta. After completing the training on Kami's Lookout, Yamcha trains on his own until the Saiyans arrive.
Yamcha as he prepares to battle a Saibaman
Yamcha arrives at the battlefield just prior to the fight beginning. After Tien defeats one of them, Yamcha volunteers to do battle with one of Nappa's spawned Saibamen, in place of Krillin who had already been revived once with the Dragon Balls. Yamcha's fight with the Saibaman is quite fast and he seemingly defeats the creature with utter ease after evading its swipes from its claws, and smashing it with a Kamehameha from behind. The creature was now believed to be dead, as it was beaten brutally by Yamcha. But as a turn of events, it was just barely alive and gathered the remainder of its energy to leap and cling onto Yamcha and self-destruct, killing both Yamcha and itself in the process.
His death devastates Bulma and Puar, as well as Krillin, who swears to avenge Yamcha's sacrifice and does so by destroying most of the Saibamen in utter contempt.
Frieza Saga

Because of the influence of Kami, after he died, Yamcha was allowed to train on King Kai's Planet in the Other World as Goku did earlier. Joining him were the other warriors who also perished in the battle against the Saiyans: Piccolo, Tien and Chiaotzu. On King Kai's planet, King Kai tells Goku that they all crossed Snake Way in a far shorter time than he did, and that they all requested for tougher training than what Goku had received.[23]
Yamcha after being resurrected
Through King Kai, he is able to witness everyone's (Goku, Vegeta, Krillin, Gohan, Dende and Piccolo fused with Nail) battle with the evil tyrant Frieza on planet Namek. Yamcha takes on Recoome of the Ginyu Force and, similar to Goku, dispatches him with relative ease. When Goku is thought to have been killed in the destruction of Namek after defeating Frieza, Yamcha relays the information to everyone through Bulma. He is returned to life 130 days later in the first batch of wishes from Porunga and continues to live at Capsule Corporation with Puar, Bulma, and now Vegeta.

In the anime, while Goku was still out in the Galaxy after his battle with Frieza, the Z Fighters all came to Master Roshi's House for a get together. During the time he becomes possessed by the Black Water Mist and became a mindless zombie who was loyal to Garlic Jr., along with the rest of the group except Gohan, Piccolo, Krillin, and his new girlfriend Maron. Afterwards, he is brought back to normal along with everyone else after the Sacred Water was poured into the Seven Air Currents and Garlic Jr. was defeated. Not long after, he resumed his baseball career for a brief period.
Cell Saga

Yamcha in the Trunks Saga
When a rebuilt Frieza and his father invades the Earth, Yamcha is one of the defenders who prepares to confront him, though he is overwhelmed by the tyrants' power. He is just as amazed as everyone else though when a mysterious youth suddenly appears and quickly destroys Frieza and his force. He listened to the youth, who claims that Goku will be arriving shortly and, after waiting for Goku's return, witnesses their sparring in awe. He was then filled in by Piccolo, who could hear the entire conversation between the two, that in three years powerful androids will appear and kill everyone if they are not fully prepared; Goku invited Yamcha to train with him, but Yamcha refused, saying that he liked training at his own pace. Around this time Yamcha drops hints to Bulma that he is ready to settle down.
Yamcha sneaks into the Capsule Corporation shuttle at night-time to attempt to train in 300 times the gravity of Earth, so that he can prove he is just as adept a fighter as Vegeta. However, after activating this gravity setting, Yamcha suddenly finds himself completely overwhelmed and on the verge of being crushed to death by the gravity. He ultimately manages to shift his hand to the control deck to restore the gravitation level.

Nevertheless, he spent the next three years in training for the Androids' arrival. During his training, Yamcha ends up distracted by various women working out at the gym he was currently training at, and a mishap with the weights resulted in him deeply reconsidering his training methods. During this time, he and Bulma breakup once and for all. After the three years, Yamcha meets Goku, Gohan, Piccolo and Tien at the location of the androids arrival. He also informs the group that the baby Bulma has with them is not his, and also stated that they'll be surprised as to who the real father was (with Goku managing to not only state accurately that the baby's father was Vegeta, but even reveal the baby's name as being Trunks, to everyone's shock). Realizing that they can not sense the androids after Yajirobe's car was shot down, the group splits up and searches the city for them. Yamcha is the first to find them, although he is initially unaware that the two are the Androids until he spotted the older man, Android 20, having a Red Ribbon logo on his hat, and is quickly grabbed around the mouth by Android 20, draining his energy and preventing him from calling for backup or battling them, although not before attempting to yell to the other Z-Fighters that he had located them. Yamcha is then incapacitated after Android 20 punches a hole clean through his midsection; the sudden drop in his ki alerts the rest of the group though, and they arrive shortly after.

Despite his mortal wound, Yamcha miracously survives long enough for Krillin to whisk him away from the battle and feed him a Senzu Bean, healing his massive wound and recovering his strength. Though he does not want to fight the Androids again, he then tags along to watch the fight and, after Goku succumbs to his heart disease, takes him home to get him his medicine. Yamcha soon after transports Goku to Kame House to hide him from Android 16, Android 17 and Android 18.
The Z Fighters searching for Cell
From watching the news he hears of the new threat, Cell, a monster that goes around absorbing people. He aids Piccolo on the search for Cell by piloting an airplane so it would not detect their ki, but it continuously evades them. When the Androids later arrive on Master Roshi's island looking for Goku, Yamcha stays behind while Piccolo goes off with them to fight on a deserted island.

Later on when Cell broadcasts his intentions to hold his Cell Games, a tournament of sorts with himself as the only opponent, Yamcha decides to accompany the fighters, but along with Tien decides not to participate. Yamcha does not get the opportunity to fight until Perfect Cell creates his Cell Juniors, who attack the Z Fighters and quickly take most of them out, including Yamcha, who got his arm brutally broken in the battle. However, in the anime, both himself and Tien simultaneously got a hit on one of the Cell Junior's while protecting Goku. He quickly recovers after eating a Senzu Bean once Gohan defeats the Cell Juniors and spends the rest of the match as an observer. In the anime, near the end of the Cell Games, Yamcha along with the rest of the Z Fighters help in distracting Cell long enough for Gohan to raise the power of his attack in an attempt to destroy the Bio-Android.
Once Gohan finally destroys Cell, Yamcha carries Gohan back to Kami's Lookout. He then makes the wish to resurrect everyone killed by Cell. When the group has difficulty thinking of a second wish, he jokingly contemplates asking Shenron for an expensive diamond necklace for the girl he's going out with. He and the rest of the group see Future Trunks off as he leaves for his own time and then they go their separate ways.
Majin Buu Saga

Yamcha as a spectator along with Puar, Marron and Bulma during the World Martial Arts Tournament
Seven years later, Yamcha attends the 25th World Martial Arts Tournament as a spectator since he gave up fighting professionally. Soon the tournament is interrupted though as the other Z Fighters leave, and then return with Vegeta now possessed by Babidi, an evil wizard. Yamcha manages to survive Vegeta's massacre along with his other friends in the crowd, barely escaping from Vegeta's blasts.
After Vegeta attacked the crowd, Yamcha went with Bulma and a few others to ask Shenron to bring back all the goodhearted people who were killed that day by Babidi and Vegeta. He then heads to the Lookout to take refuge from the assault of the new terror, Majin Buu, and witnesses Goten and Trunks' first attempts at performing the Fusion Dance, and finally their success when they become Gotenks.
Yamcha while the others try to retrieve a Dragon Ball
A day later, Super Buu eventually finds everyone at the tower and allows them to live for a short time. When Super Buu escapes from the Hyperbolic Time Chamber Yamcha is quickly turned into chocolate and eaten with the others.
In the anime only, Yamcha and Krillin go to Grand Kai's Planet, where Yamcha recovers his passion for fighting. It does appear that Yamcha has been training despite his lack of willingness to fight due to the fact that he can stand against two of the North quadrant's strongest fighters. Later they have a brief fight with Kid Buu in the Other World.

After being resurrected, Yamcha's last real action in the series is giving Goku his energy to help form the Spirit Bomb that defeats Kid Buu.
After the end of the Buu saga, as he has the dilemma of loving women but not being good around them, Yamcha is still wandering blindly in search of the ideal partner he will not be nervous around. He has even worked in a host club, but because of his nervousness, it did not go well and he was fired. His livelihood is mainly working together with Puar as a freelance bodyguard, and he occasionally goes to Tien Shinhan's to help with the farm as well.[9]
Dragon Ball Super
God of Destruction Beerus Saga
Main article: God of Destruction Beerus Saga Some time after the battle with Majin Buu, Yamcha and Puar head towards Bulma's birthday, which is being held on a cruise ship, where they encounter Krillin, Android 18, and their daughter, Marron. They are also flying to get there, as it was taking too long driving in a car. Yamcha and Puar later encounter Tien Shinhan and Chiaotzu on the ship.
Yamcha and Beerus
When Beerus arrives on the ship, Yamcha is one of the first to introduce himself to Lord Beerus. He exaggerates his power, proclaiming himself as the strongest one on the ship. He roughly slaps him on the back, which worries Vegeta that it might upset him, but Beerus just shrugs it off. Yamcha joins the crowd of people when Beerus eats the octopus balls served to him by Krillin, with one containing wasabi. They chant him on, encouraging Beerus to take a bite. Later, Yamcha joins several others as they board Bulma's space pod to get a better view of Goku and Beerus' fight. In the end, Beerus beats Goku, but he doesn't destroy the Earth because he falls asleep in the process.
Golden Frieza Saga

Universe 6 Saga

Yamcha is traveling with Goku and the rest of the gang to the Nameless Planet where the Tournament of Destroyers is being held and they're being taken there by Whis in his cube. After two hours and forty-five minutes of traveling, they arrive on the Nameless Planet. Yamcha is a bystander and watches the tournament from the stands. He watches the first match between Goku and Universe 6's, Botamo. He is later shocked along with everyone else when Goku is defeated by Frost. During Vegeta's match with Cabba, Yamcha points out similarities between Cabba and a young Goku he fought when they first meet long ago. As Vegeta begins toying with Cabba, he shows some doubt that Vegeta has rid himself of all of his sinister qualities, but dismisses them once he realizes that Vegeta simply wanted to push the weaker Saiyan to increase his power. Yamcha then witnesses the entire tournament, and is present with the Z-Fighters as the wish with the Super Dragon Balls is made, and they all return to Earth.
Copy-Vegeta Saga

Yamcha attends Bulma's Universe 7 victory party, and is tasked along with everyone else to keep Monaka's secret safe from Goku. After Goku fought with "Monaka" (Beerus wearing a Monaka costume), Yamcha accidentally points out Monaka passing out from the fight. After Goku sees that there are two Monakas the other Z-Fighters scorn Yamcha, and Beerus starts to grow angry, but calms down when Goku praises Monaka for having the ability to clone himself. The party then starts.
"Future" Trunks Saga

During the baseball game between Universe 6 and Universe 7, Yamcha takes over pitching after Goku was nearly ejected from the game due to destroying the field and Yamcha debuts a new technique for pitching, the Wolf Fang Pitching Fist, the speed of his Wolf Fang Fist with the controllability of the Spirit Ball and uses it to near effortlessly strike out Universe 6 for the 1st half of set 1, impressing everyone, especially Bulma who begins to flirt with Yamcha again.

When Universe 7 steps up to bat with Yamcha up 1st, who mouths off to Vegeta that he will not lose to him in baseball, Vegeta; who along with Goten were filling in for the missing Hit and Frost of Universe 6, pitches the ball into Yamcha's ribcage and then berates both Yamcha and Bulma for flirting with each other. However this causes Yamcha to walk to 1st base, shocking Vegeta who thought the rules of baseball were to hit the opponent. Goku comes up to pitch next and both power up to Super Saiyan Blue. Vegeta pitches as hard as he can and is shocked when Goku begins to overpower his pitch, proclaiming that he put all of his power into it. When Vegeta begins to fire ki blasts into the ball to give it more power Yamcha makes a break for 2nd, which causes Vegeta to stop attacking Goku and overpowers Vegeta's pitch but is caught out by Botamo who throws the ball to Goten but misses him so Yamcha makes another break to 2nd base but is struck by both Champa and Vegeta at the same time but still made it to the base and allowed to stay due to being attacked.
Yamcha wins Team Universe 7 the game
When Gohan hits the ball Yamcha makes a run to 3rd base but Champa again intervenes and stops Botamo from getting Gohan out and throws the ball at Yamcha, once again hitting him in the spine but Yamcha once again makes it to the base, proclaiming he will not lose at baseball weakly from the ground. Beerus gets mad at Champa for playing dirty and attacking Yamcha so the two gods begin to fight, with Goku recalling that if two gods of destruction fight all of the universe will be destroyed. Everyone runs to Bulma's shield in an attempt to protect themselves except for Yamcha, who bravely makes a dash for homebase during the ki barrage storm that was flying off of Beerus and Champa, which the blasts were destroying the entire area. Whis and Vados stop the fight, saying that it is taboo for Gods of Destruction to fight one another and called the game off saying Universe 7 won. When Champa asked why Vados points to home plate, revealing Yamcha successfully braved the ki barrage storm, winning the game for Universe 7, but was coincidentally laying inside the crater near death in exactly the same pose from when he was blown up by a Saibaman many years ago. Krillin, Gohan and Piccolo all pointing it out as a bad memory. Yamcha weakly says that he is going to take a different kind of walk off and collapsed from his injuries.
Universe Survival Saga

Yamcha arrives happy to see Bulla
In the anime, at Capsule Corporation, Yamcha comes to visit right after Bulla is born and he asks to hold her. However, Bulla starts to cry as he makes a funny face and this enrages Vegeta into turning into Super Saiyan Blue. Yamcha overhears the conversation of Goku and Gohan about recruiting fighters for the Tournament of Power, and becomes convinced he will be recruited also, and heads home to wait for Goku to ask him. Yamcha is later seen at his house, rehearsing his lines of initially refusing to join them; and then show up at the last minute, all the while still waiting for Goku. He and Puar are seen watching television in his bed, until Master Roshi and Oolong arrive.

Yamcha thinks Roshi is inviting him to join the team. The Turtle Hermit asks for Yamcha to tell Puar to transform into a young woman in order to overcome his perverted antics for the Tournament of Power; in the meantime Yamcha asks Oolong if he is still getting recruited and the latter responds with a "maybe". At Capsule Corporation, Yamcha, Puar, and Oolong watch Team Universe 7 leave. Yamcha mentions that the universe's fate is in their hands.
In the manga, Yamcha was considered by Bulma, Master Roshi, and Tien Shinhan to be the 10th member of Team Universe 7. However, Goku brought Frieza as the tenth warrior. In addition to playing baseball, Yamcha still trains martial arts occasionally just in case of emergency.[24]
After the Tournament of Power ended and with the erased Universe restored, Yamcha and Puar are seen at the victory party held at Capsule Corp. He brings a teddy bear as a gift for Bulla.
Galactic Patrol Prisoner Saga

Yamcha takes on three convicts at once
After Jaco briefs everyone on Kami's Lookout about Moro's gang arriving to Earth, Krillin suggested to Piccolo of asking for Yamcha's help. During the two month preparation against Moro and his crew, Yamcha was recruited by the Galactic Patrol, alongside the other Z-Fighters to help defend the Earth. Sensing the chaos from around the world, Yamcha goes off on his own after tracking the enemies ki, he notices a squad of Galactic Patrolmen following him and leads them.
Yamcha faces off against Zauyogi
Later in the city, Yamcha easily defeated and subdued three members of Moro Corps', before heading off after tracking another source of ki energy, which turns out to be Zauyogi. After being beaten around by the Brigade advisor, he finds assistance from Tien and Chiaotzu, who join the fight alongside him, though Zauyogi proves he was not making idle boasts and continues to overpower the trio.
Peaceful World Saga
Main article: Peaceful World Saga Ten years after Kid Buu's defeat, Yamcha is seen along with the rest of the Z Fighters at the 28th World Martial Arts Tournament and witnesses the emergence of Uub, the good, human reincarnation of Kid Buu. Yamcha is said farewell to by Goku, just before he takes off with Uub to his village to train him.
Dragon Ball GT

Yamcha in Dragon Ball GT
Yamcha makes a cameo appearance in Dragon Ball GT in episode 34, "Back in the Game": He is seen in a photograph alongside many of the other Z Fighters. He is also seen among a group of people in an undisclosed area when they are taken to New Planet Plant because Earth is about to be destroyed due to the Black Star Dragon Balls. He returns to Earth when it is restored by the Namekian Dragon Balls and attends a party at Bulma's house with the rest of the Z Fighters.

As a partial retelling of the Pilaf Saga, Yamcha's basic history starts out the same (scared of girls, likes Bulma, and plots to steal the Dragon Balls), but diverges at a certain point. After hearing Goku is going to visit the Turtle Hermit, Yamcha tries to get Roshi to beat up Goku by telling the hermit that Goku plots to steal his shell. The plan fails due to Goku showing his purity by riding the Nimbus cloud and Yamcha retreats after Bulma gets close to him. In the next Part of his plan, Yamcha raids King Gurumes for the remaining six Dragon Balls and other valuables. The desert bandit rides up the castle walls with the Silverstar 4 while simultaneously avoiding gunfire. At the top, Yamcha effortlessly simultaneously defeats six of King Gurumes' soldiers with nunchucks and then runs into a room full of blood rubies. Yamcha and Puar stuff their pockets with rubies and while exiting come across Oolong and Bulma. There is no time to say hello as an armed Pasta bursts into the scene and riddles Yamcha's chest with bullets seemingly killing him to Puar's distress. Raven points her gun towards Bulma but Yamcha sweep kicks her as Blood rubies pour out of his shirt.
A Happy Ending
He easily disarms Raven, but refuses to fight after seeing her gender. Undeterred Raven pulls out her grenades and starts tossing them after the gang causing the hallway to fall apart. The grenades caused a huge boulder to head down in Bulma's direction, acting fast Yamcha jumps up and catches it. In gratitude for saving her Bulma gives Yamcha a big hug making the shy rogue blush and scream. Yamcha later watches with Bulma as the Dragon Balls come together and Penny wishes to get rid of the Blood rubies. Yamcha realizes he no longer needs to wish away his fear of girls and hooks up with Bulma.
Sleeping Princess in Devil's Castle

Yamcha appears in the film as Bulma's boyfriend and Goku's friend (likely continuing from the previous movie). After hearing from Roshi that he sent Goku and Krillin off to Devil's Castle, Yamcha and the others head there in a helicopter. Near the castle, their helicopter is attacked by demons and crashes.

Yamcha, Puar and Oolong wake up inside the castle. In an effort to rescue Bulma from getting her blood drained, using the transforming abilities of the latter, they disguise themselves as demons but are caught when Oolong's transforming ability gives away. They are then stuck in a stone wall along with Goku, Krillin, and Launch. When Goku breaks them out by turning into his Great Ape form, Yamcha and Puar cut his tail to ensure everyone's safety. They reach Lucifer, and Yamcha takes out an ax equipped Igor to rescue Bulma. After Lucifer is defeated, Yamcha returns Goku, Krillin, and Launch to the Kame House.
Mystical Adventure

Yamcha fights Bora
Yamcha appears helping Bulma in her search for the Dragon Balls located in Mifan, though Yamcha is more interested in entering the World Martial Arts Tournament located there, having always wanted to enter like in the main series. After saying hi to Goku and Krillin, Yamcha separates from Bulma and enters the Tournament. Yamcha defeats a giant called Gregor and moves on to face Bora in the semi finals. At first the fight is even with Yamcha dodging all of Bora's blows and Bora blocking Yamcha's strikes, but Master Roshi distracts Yamcha, causing him to cease his dodging and allowing Bora to knock him out of the ring.
Yamcha does not appear again until later in the movie when Bulma is cornered by Mifan troops, Yamcha rushes in and pushes her out of the way of the Crane Hermit's Dodon Ray. Unfortunately while Yamcha got them both to safety, Bulma's Dragon Balls dropped into an ocean crevice. Fortunately, Goku finds a way around this and Yamcha is present at Bora's revival.
The Path to Power

Yamcha in The Path to Power
Yamcha is a main character in The Path to Power, an adaptation that is a mix between the Pilaf and Red Ribbon Army Sagas. Similar to the show Yamcha attacks Goku (who is not hungry in this version) for his valuables and is winning but flees upon seeing Bulma due to his girl phobia. His affection for Bulma is more obvious, Puar getting him to admit she is all that is on his mind.
The bandits follow the gang north to icy weather by Muscle Tower, missing the desert heat Yamcha and Puar go into a cave to warm up with a family of bears. Still spying on them as they meet Roshi, Yamcha upon hearing about the Dragon Balls realizes with them 'he could get rid of his phobia and "be with.....whoever he wants." Unfortunately the gang is then attacked by a Red Ribbon Fleet, Roshi fights back with a Kamehameha (amazing Yamcha), but they are still captured by General Blue. Yamcha decides to make a rescue attempt by sneaking attacking General Blue, Bulma is so excited to see Yamcha that she yells at to him making the Desert Wolf freeze and lose his cover, both him and Puar captured with everyone else.
While in prison with the Gang, Yamcha mostly gets over his anxiety around Bulma, connecting with her and even sharing an accidental kiss after an explosion rocks the prison. Escaping the prison, Yamcha watches Goku's fight with Officer Black and Eighter's sacrifice. As Shenron appears, Yamcha willingly gives up his wish, as he and Bulma look into each other's eyes.
The Tree of Might

Yamcha uses his Spirit Ball
Yamcha flies his new ship until it is destroyed by Amond. He goes to Goku's house and tells his friends about what happened. After King Kai tells them about the Tree of Might's appearance, Yamcha and the other Z fighters head to the tree. They try to uproot the tree but they're unsuccessful. The heroes face the Turles Crusher Corps. and starts to battle with them. Yamcha fires his Spirit Ball at Cacao. His attack cause no damage to Cacao, they fight hand-to-hand until the henchman beats Yamcha. Yamcha appears once again with the others to defend Goku against Turles while he is trying to form a Spirit Bomb but is quickly taken down. After the Tree of Might is destroyed, Yamcha joins everyone on a camping trip.
Bojack Unbound

Yamcha and Gohan, Piccolo, Krillin, Tien and Future Trunks participates in the Intergalactic World Tournament. Above the arena platform, Yamcha is seen lying down on one of the large poles, disheartened and disinterest in taking part after realising that his more powerful friends are competing. Down below, Doskoi backhands another fighter into the pole, causing Yamcha to slide off and fall into the water where he is disqualified. Yamcha appears once again along with Tien, when they go to the Battle Zone to help Gohan against Bojack's gang. Yamcha faces Bido and Zangya and fights against them but is quickly defeated.

Four years after Majin Buu's defeat, Yamcha is invited to Bulma's birthday party alongside the other Z-Fighters and their friends. Here he encounters Beerus and Whis, who are looking for a Super Saiyan God to fight with. Yamcha is enjoying the party. When Bulma is beginning the Bingo Contest, Yamcha notices that one of the Dragon Balls are missing. The last Dragon Ball is later found in the hands of Mai and Emperor Pilaf. Beerus eventually gets angered by Majin Buu because he didn't share his pudding. Yamcha himself doesn't take part in the fight against Beerus and is evacuated by Krillin alongside the other guests to safety.
When Beerus challenged Oolong to a rock-paper-scissors match, Yamcha gives Oolong a plan: he told Oolong that Beerus thought he was just a pig with hooves who didn't have fingers. Yamcha speculated that Beerus would use paper, so to counter this, Oolong used scissors. However Beerus heard the entire plan and proceeded to attempt to destroy the Earth. He later watches the fight between Super Saiyan God Goku and Beerus while airborne. In the end, Beerus beats Goku, but doesn't destroy Earth and goes home.
Resurrection ‘F’
Main article: Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection ‘F’ Yamcha is mentioned when Tien tells his friends that he and Chiaotzu fighting against Frieza's army would be suicide. He was later killed when Frieza blew up the Earth. This event is however reversed by Whis doing his Temporal Do-Over technique.

Yamcha is among the group attending Mr. Satan's party. He sits on the sidelines during the battle against Abo and Kado because it was decided that they were weak enough that Goten and Trunks would be enough to defeat them. Gotenks uses Yamcha's Wolf Fang Fist against the fused version of Abo and Kado, Aka. After Aka unleashes his Super Destructive Energy Wave, Yamcha himself briefly enters the action and uses a Spirit Ball to destroy the top of a large building that was about to crush Bulma, Puar and Oolong, as well as various pieces of rubble. Despite having apparently given up on fighting, he is shown to be wearing his gi under his suit. While Yamcha does not appear to use one of his Wolf Fang techniques, his aura still makes him appear as a wolf.
The Case of Being Reincarnated as Yamcha

Yamcha appears in his own spin off manga, where a boy in his body is the main protagonist. Once a boy who loved Dragon Ball had an accident and when he woke up he found himself in the body of Yamcha, since then he tries to make Yamcha the best. In the battle against Vegeta and Nappa he saved Yamcha from the Saibaman and he killed all of them, he went to Namek and got his potential unlocked.

- Saiyan Saga
During the main story, Yamcha appears during the Attack of the Saiyans in the altered timeline of Age 762 fighting the Dark Magic enhanced Saibamen, Tennenman, and Jinkouman. The Future Warrior is sent by the Time Patrol to assist but they get separated fighting the Dark Saibamen. Yamcha and Tien are killed when a Saibaman self-destructs, though as they both died in the original history regardless that part of history was restored to its proper course and would disappear from history once Chronoa put the scrolls together to restore the proper timeline once the change had been corrected.
Xenoverse 2

- The Saiyan Threat Saga
In another altered timeline created by Turles and Lord Slug who had been recruited by the Time Breakers, the Saibamen are not deployed and Dark Nappa confronts the Z Fighters including Yamcha who survives to fight Nappa due to the change. Unfortunately Yamcha is too weak to make a difference despite the arrival of the current Future Warrior. Yamcha tells Tien not to worry about where the Future Warrior came from recognizing they need all the help they can get to take on their Saiyan adversaries. Eventually they sense Goku on his way but Krillin notices an evil presence following Goku. Elder Kai reveals to the Future Warrior that whoever it is they are slowing Goku down and notes the others won't last much longer and orders the Future Warrior to go help Goku. While the Future Warrior is helping Goku fight against Turles who is revealed to be the evil presence Krillin sensed, Yamcha is killed fight Nappa along with Tien, Chiaotzu, and Piccolo though again their deaths correct that portion of the timeline and the Future Warrior manages to correct history causing the altered timeline to disappear and the original timeline to be restored despite several anomalies.
- Android Warfare
During the Cell Games in the altered timeline of Age 767, the Future Warrior arrives to protect Tien and Yamcha from the Dark Cell Juniors. The Future Warrior manages to protect them long enough for Mr. Satan to throw Android 16's head to where Gohan is resulting in Gohan's Super Saiyan 2 transformation. Yamcha then observes SSJ2 Gohan and the Future Warrior's battle against Dark Cell, before a Wormhole summons the Metal Cooler Corps. from The Return of Cooler timeline, though the Future Warrior beats them and travels through the wormhole to stop anymore Metal Coolers from reaching the main timeline. Meanwhile Gohan forces Cell to spit up Android 18 and Goku sacrifices himself to prevent Semi-Perfect Cell's self-destruction from destroying Earth. However the Supervillain empowered Super Perfect Cell appears after surviving. Yamcha watches as SSJ2 Gohan and the Future Warrior weaken Cell enough for Gohan to finish him off with the Father-Son Kamehameha, causing Yamcha to cheer the victory over Cell.
- Hero Colosseum Saga
During the fried egg topping argument with Beerus and Champa, they both reference the baseball match where Yamcha played an important role indicating the saga's events take place after it occurred in the main timeline. Champa suggests they have another baseball match to settle things but Beerus refuses noting how they almost came to blows last time thus preventing another baseball match between Team Universe 7 and Team Universe 6.
Kakarot
- Saiyan Saga
Yamcha first appears after he, Krillin, Tien, Chiaotzu, and Yajirobe had completed their training under Kami. Save for Yajirobe, the four fighters decide to go to Blake Bog where Piccolo is training Gohan to challenge Piccolo as he is currently the strongest fighter around. Piccolo finds Yamcha in the swamp area of Blake Bog and Yamcha challenges him to a fight but is defeated. During the conflict with the Saibamen, the storyline is slightly altered as Yamcha is a support only character, thus Gohan fights the Saibamen with Yamcha as a support. Yamcha is able to defeat the Saibamen like in the original series, but it catches him off guard and kills both itself and Yamcha with its Self Destruct (Tien's fight with the Saibamen first is omitted).
- Intermission 1
During the Intermission after the Saiyan Saga, Yamcha is deceased along with Tien, Chiaotzu, Piccolo, and Kami. However Gohan finds a terrified Oolong in front of the Capsule Corporation. He asks what is wrong and Oolong reveals that he saw what he believes to be Yamcha's Ghost walking around in West City. This leads to the Sub Story "Yamcha's Alive?!".
- Sub Story - Yamcha's Alive?!
Gohan is unsure if Oolong actually saw Yamcha's Ghost and decides to investigate how Yamcha could be alive when he saw him die fighting the Saibaman. Gohan goes in search of the supposed ghost. He finds Yamcha but he appears completely fine and completely alive (he has no Halo or ghostly tail) talking to a girl he is apparently dating. However something seems off about Yamcha and Gohan decides to follow him discreetly. He sees Yamcha had another girlfriend whom he is also dating who notes Yamcha has changed and isn't as fun, though Yamcha says he'll do better next time. He finds Yamcha again meeting a third girlfriend. Unfortunately this girlfriend's ex-boyfriend shows up. The girlfriend reveals her ex has been stalking her and he summons three Skull Robo Type 1 to attack Yamcha who uncharacteristically is not eager to fight them forcing Gohan to come to his rescue. Gohan's inhuman strength scares off the ex-boyfriend and Yamcha's girlfriend. Gohan checks on Yamcha who reveals himself to actually be Puar in disguise. Puar explains that they were trying to keep up appearances that Yamcha was alive and well to his many girlfriends who were unaware of his death. Eventually Krillin shows up as he had a message from Yamcha to give to Puar. Krillin reveals that during their training at the Lookout, Yamcha gave Krillin a message to give to Puar if something happens to him. At first it seems Yamcha wanted Puar to not worry about him, though Krillin then gives Puar the names of some girls he wants Puar to date in disguise for him while he is deceased and Puar dutifully complies. Gohan notes to himself Yamcha's words would have had deeper meaning had it not been for the last part. Gohan returns to Oolong and explains it was just a shapeshifting Puar much to his relief.
- Frieza Saga
Like in the main series, Yamcha trains with Piccolo, Tien, and Chiaotzu on King Kai's Planet and talk to Goku during his gravity training. After Super Saiyan Goku defeats Frieza, Yamcha contacts Bulma to inform everyone that Goku failed to escape Namek, though Bulma explains they can revive him with the Namekian Dragon Balls. The narrator explains that Porunga revealed Goku survived and would return on his own, causing them to revive Krillin and Yamcha instead. After the Namekian Dragon Balls recharge, Tien and Chiaotzu are revived and the Namekians relocate to New Namek (save for Piccolo, Kami, and a Namekian child named Necke who remained on Earth).

During the Intermission after the Frieza Saga, Yamcha can be added to the player's party as a Support Character. If the party visits his old hideout in Diablo Desert portion of the Southeast Mountains Area, and Yamcha is in the party he will stand next to the door of the hideout. The Intermission is a good opportunity to level up Yamcha and unlock any available skills and Super Attacks from the Super Attack Skill Tree. There are two Sub Stories that require Yamcha to not be in the player's party as Yamcha plays a role in both.
Power

- Manga and Anime
Yamcha is one of the strongest human fighters on Earth. The fact that his enemies underestimate him at times actually plays into Yamcha's favor, allowing him to catch his enemies off guard. Since his early appearance in Dragon Ball, Yamcha is shown to be a skilled martial artist. Yamcha was capable of matching Goku (whose power level was 10, but was weakened from hunger at the time) in combat and nearly defeats him in their first encounter. When Goku trains with Roshi, however, Yamcha is far surpassed.
While Goku trained with Roshi, Yamcha trained for a month in the wilderness. At the 21st World Martial Arts Tournament, Yamcha makes it past the elimination rounds and defeats most ordinary martial artists including Fighter 40. Yamcha fights Jackie Chun in the quarter finals, who dodges all of his attacks with little effort. Jackie Chun easily defeats Yamcha with a kiai.
In the Fortuneteller Baba Saga, Yamcha fights See-Through the Invisible Man, who beats him up due to being invisible. However, See-Through's only advantage is being invisible and he is easily defeated by Yamcha when he becomes visible thanks to Roshi's nose bleed. In turn, Yamcha is defeated easily by Bandages the Mummy, who dodged all of his attacks including the Wolf Fang Fist. After Baba's Tournament, Roshi begins training Yamcha as his pupil.
Three years after Baba's Tournament, Yamcha has improved greatly and participates in the 22nd World Martial Arts Tournament. He is again defeated in the quarter finals, this time by Tien Shinhan, who also cripples him. However, Yamcha managed to put up a good fight against Tien, who was equal in strength to Goku at the time.
In the anime, Yamcha is confronted by Tambourine in the King Piccolo Saga, managing to be somewhat competitive against the demon assassin. However, he is hindered by his broken leg, and ultimately spared from being killed by Tambourine when King Piccolo calls on Tambourine to find Cymbal's killer. In the manga, Tambourine and Yamcha didn't fight, but Tambourine was going to kill Yamcha next and didn't because he got the message Cymbal had been killed.
In the 23rd World Martial Arts Tournament, Yamcha is defeated in the quarter finals by Hero, who was really a human possessed by Kami. Kami tells Yamcha that he has great potential and was impressed by his Spirit Ball technique, but he needed to improve on his focus and defense.
In the beginning of Dragon Ball Z, Yamcha's power level is calculated as 177 by the scouter used by Bulma. After training at Kami's Lookout for a year, his power level is 1,480. At that time, even though he is proven to be stronger than a Saibaman, he could not save himself from the suicidal Saibaman Bomb attack which killed him (albeit Yamcha had his back turned and was caught off-guard, due to his overconfidence in believing the creature to be dead). Afterwards, in the Other World, Yamcha trains under King Kai, and in the anime, when joining forces with Tien and Chiaotzu, together they are shown strong enough to give a hard time to Piccolo. Also in the anime, in a sparring session on King Kai's planet, he defeats Recoome, an opponent whose power level is at least 40,000 and had easily taken out Vegeta.
After Goku tells the others of the androids, he offers to train with both Yamcha and Krillin. They both refuse, with Yamcha saying that he couldn't keep up with Goku's kind of training. His own training methods began with standard weight-machines; however, his raw strength proved too much for the setup, quickly breaking them from too much force being applied to them. Later, wanting to prove to himself that he is just as capable as Vegeta, Yamcha recklessly tried using the Gravity Machine, setting it to 300 times Earth's gravity like Vegeta. Quickly, he found himself utterly overwhelmed by it. Nonetheless, he proved just strong enough to reach the control panel above him to turn off the machine before passing out.
After three years of intense training on Earth, Yamcha has gotten stronger, as Android 20 thought he was Goku when he first detected his power, though Gero was unaware of Goku's extreme growth since his battle against the Saiyans, convinced that he had already reached his peak. He is easily brought to near-death in one blow by Gero (although Yamcha was caught off-guard from not knowing of Gero's identity, his android status or his energy absorption power, the latter of which quickly drained him before he could fight back). Later, he was decimated by a Cell Jr. when the small Bio-Androids attack, and only survives because the Cell Juniors were suppressing their power as they were ordered not to kill the Z Fighters.
By the time of the Majin Buu Saga, Yamcha's power had likely dropped considerably from its peak, as he had given up on martial arts after the Cell Games.
After dying again in the Fusion Saga, several anime-only scenes show Yamcha training on Grand Kai's planet, where (with a restored passion for fighting) he is able to take out both Olibu and a Winged Gorilla fighter with ease. When Vegito is turned into candy by Super Buu, King Kai suggests sending Krillin and Yamcha to fight him instead of Goku and Vegeta, implying they're his next best fighters. In the Kid Buu Saga, it is shown that he, along with Krillin, were also strong enough to stay on their feet against Kid Buu after being hit by one of his attacks; the two also lasted longer than all of the other dead fighters. However, as already said, this is all anime-only filler.
In the manga version of Dragon Ball: Yo! Son Goku and His Friends Return!!, Yamcha is intimidated by Aka's Flaming Wahaha no Ha, noting it could destroy Earth.
In the God of Destruction Beerus Saga, Yamcha was seen doing a mini training session with Piccolo. He also declared to Beerus that he is still one of the strongest fighters present, and gave the God of Destruction a friendly pat on the back that causes the latter to stumble (in a comedic fashion).
During the Universe 6 vs. Universe 7 baseball game, Yamcha reveals he has kept up with his training but uses it for baseball instead of fighting. He created a new kind of pitching technique called the "Wolf Fang Pitching Fist", a pitch that has the speed of his Wolf Fang Fist and the maneuverability of the Spirit Ball. This pitch is extremely effective, allowing Yamcha to effortlessly strike out Botamo and Cabba and striking out Universe 6 for the 1st half of the 1st set. Despite keeping up with his training, Yamcha passes out heroically winning the game for Universe 7, due to the injuries he received from braving a ki barrage storm that was tearing apart Universe 7 from the Beerus and Champa battle.
In the Universe Survival Saga, when learning of a tournament pitting all twelve universes against each other, featuring the strongest warriors of each respective universe, Yamcha was excited by the prospect and expected to be chosen as a member of the team. In the manga, Bulma suggested Yamcha as a member for Team Universe 7. This shows that despite having long-since broken up with the man, she still has great confidence in his abilities.
In the Galactic Patrol Prisoner Saga, Yamcha was recruited by the Galactic Patrol to defend the Earth from the Moro Corps' invasion. Despite the escaped convicts being empowered by Moro's magic, Yamcha proved able to overwhelm three foes at once. Yamcha then goes on to state that he is one of the three strongest Earthlings.
- That Time I Got Reincarnated as Yamcha
Main article: Yamcha (Reincarnation Game) Dragon Garrow Lee's spin-off manga, Dragon Ball: That Time I Got Reincarnated as Yamcha, shows what would occur if a boy in Yamcha's body was aware of all of the events that would occur in the future - unlike in the mainstream series, Yamcha trains early on with Goku at Master Roshi's and has gotten drastically stronger to the point where he becomes unscathed by several Saibamen explosions at once. Thanks to having his potential unlocked by Guru and training with Nail prior to the Saiyan invasion, his power level is noted by Vegeta to be over 10,000 and as such, he and Goku together can match Vegeta in combat. In the final chapter, the boy as Yamcha was able to fight, outwit, and defeat Chiaotzu (who was also a reincarnated soul and had just as much knowledge as the boy in regards to the series).

In Dragon Ball Z: The Tree of Might, Yamcha was shown to at least hold his own against Cacao and managed to hit the latter with the Spirit Ball, but was eventually overpowered. His and the others (excluding Goku) combined might was no match for the fruit empowered Turles.
By the time of Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection ‘F’, it would appear that Yamcha has slacked off on his training and along with Chiaotzu doesn't participate in the Dragon Team's battle against Frieza's army of 1,000 soldiers because it is deemed too dangerous for them by former rival and long time friend Tien.

In the Dragon Ball Z: The Tree of Might movie pamphlet, Yamcha's power level is 1,900.
- Video Games
In a hidden scenario in Yamcha's story-arc of Budokai 3 HD Collection, several years after Majin Buu's defeat, Yamcha was able to defeat Tien in the World Tournament, and advance to the finals against Mr. Satan. Though having a higher power level than Mr. Satan, due to his promise to Goku, Yamcha willingly throws the fight. Later, his newfound confidence led to rumors of him challenging Goku and Vegeta. Another scenario had him fight against Vegeta as revenge for taking Bulma as his wife. Though he won the battle, the rematch between the two ended differently.
In the What-If scenario of Raging Blast, Yamcha fights Vegeta and defeats him. Future Trunks shows up after (with the belief that he'll no longer exist if Vegeta and Bulma aren't together), and Yamcha defeats him as well, realizing that he must be the strongest fighter in the universe.
In Parallel Quest 86 of Xenoverse 2, Yamcha's Supervillain form is powerful enough to overwhelm Adult Gohan, Tien Shinhan, and Piccolo (Gohan notes that one punch can knock someone out cold).
In Dragon Ball Fusions, Yamcha is classified as a C-Rank fighter putting him on par with Bulla, Chiaotzu, Gine, Great Saiyaman 2/Videl, Guldo, Nappa, Raditz, and Saibamen who are all C-Rank.
In FighterZ, Dr. Gero's power suppressing waves didn't affect Yamcha as much as everyone else, as the suppression seal is incomplete on Yamcha, allowing him to access most of his power. Even still, Frieza and Cell mocked Yamcha as they interpreted the revelation as Yamcha was too weak for it to actually seal away his power. This fact could be attributed to him retiring from martial arts, as he had mentioned throughout the game, although it should also be noted that he was still strong enough to be partially affected by the waves, as while he remained conscious he was still immobilized, even stating that it felt like he had been hit by a truck when Krillin and Goku find him in the Super Warrior Arc, indicating that his power was high enough to be affected while at the same time low enough to remain conscious. He is also implied to still be stronger than Chiaotzu (who, unlike Yamcha, continues to train alongside Tien as he has done for years), who was both able to remain conscious and able to move, as he is shown trying to protect the unconscious Tien from clones when the Z Fighters find them. Additionally, since he has access to most of his power, he is not as debilitated by the waves as the others, allowing him to fight at nearly full strength (though, again, it is noted that he has become slightly rusty due to lack of training, though presumably his baseball career has kept him in peak physical condition, allowing him to maintain a decently high power level for an Earthling to be affected by the waves at all).

Yamcha using Neo Wolf Fang Fist against Tien
- Wolf Fang Fist – Yamcha typically does a combo of clawing and punching, then finishing with a double palm strike to launch his opponent away. His hand and finger movements may be intended to mimic the biting of a wolf.
- Blinding Wolf Fang Fist – First, Yamcha charges at the opponent and kicks them away. Then, he charges his energy into a powerful Wolf Fang Fist with a hand movement similar to when firing a Kamehameha. Finally, Yamcha charges at the opponent and strikes them with the Wolf Fang Fist. The opponent lies on the floor defeated as Yamcha looks back and shows a grin.
- Neo Wolf Fang Fist – With more control of his ki, Yamcha can increase the power of his physical attacks, landing devastating blows on his opponent in rapid succession that can leave his victims battered and bruised.
- Wolf Fang Pitching Fist Ball - As a baseball player, Yamcha adapted his martial arts skills and trained to play baseball, allowing him to develop this new type of pitching technique. Basically, it is a pitch with the speed of the Wolf Fang Fist and the control ability of the Spirit Ball, creating an extremely effective pitching technique for striking out an opposing team's batters (even people who normally out-class Yamcha in an actual fight).

Yamcha charges his first Kamehameha
- Kamehameha – A powerful Ki blast fired with two hands after concentrating a large amount of Ki.
- Super Kamehameha – Used in Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Z and the Xenoverse series.
- Multiple Kamehameha - Two or more fighters fire multiple Kamehamehas (one per fighter) simultaneously at a single point.
- Kamehame Fever - When they use it, Krillin, Yamcha, and Goku each charge their own Kamehameha attacks. Then, they fire them at the same time from three different places to cause great damage to the enemy.
- Team Work Kamehameha – A double Kamehameha used by Yamcha and Krillin in the Dragon Ball Z Collectible Card Game.
Yamcha's Spirit Ball
- Spirit Ball – The Spirit Ball is formed by making an upwards facing open palm, and placing the other hand around the adjacent arm for support. The user then gathers surrounding energy into the open palm and shapes the energy into a yellow-orange sphere. After forming the Spirit Ball, the user controls and guides it by pointing the index and middle fingers in the desired direction. When initially guided, the attack utilizes kinetic energy to deal damage, striking the enemy multiple times from range. On its last strike, the Spirit Ball is triggered to explode on impact, further damaging the enemy.
- Super Spirit Ball – Yamcha puts his right hand out with the palm facing the sky, then with his left hand, he grabs and holds his right wrist. Concentrating a massive amount of ki in his outstretched hand, Yamcha can create a huge, yellow hovering ball as large as his entire body which he controls with his index and middle finger, launching it at them hitting them several times before exploding. Yamcha can even manipulate this into firing a beam.
- Ki Blast Thrust - The user focuses their ki into their fist and charges toward the opponent with an ki-enhanced punch which can cancel out weak Ki Blasts as they charge toward the opponent.
- Wolf Fang Blast – Yamcha uppercuts his opponent up in the air, then he flies up and knock them down to the ground again. Yamcha then fires a barrage of ki blasts on the opponent, only to finish the attack with a large ball of ki. Used only in the Budokai series.

Yamcha as a Demon Clansman
During the Garlic Jr. Saga, Yamcha is infected by the Black Water Mist becoming a vampire-like Demon Clansman. In this state the evil desires, he would normally suppress take control driving him mad to the point of being willing to kill his own friends for it. He also becomes a devoted follower of Garlic Jr. and the Spice Boys whom he worships. Due to his training under Kami and King Kai, he is one of the strongest fighters known to have been corrupted by the mist making him more dangerous than the other infected Earthlings like Bulma, Chi-Chi, and Master Roshi.

In Dragon Ball Z: Super Saiya Densetsu, Yamcha can have his potential unlocked by Guru if he manages to survive the battle with Nappa (this can be achieved if Goku returns instantly) allowing him to travel to Namek. He also has it unlocked by Guru in the That Time I Got Reincarnated as Yamcha manga.

Yamcha using the Kaio-ken in Dragon Ball Xenoverse
In Dragon Ball Xenoverse, one of Yamcha's playable forms can use the Kaio-ken technique as one of his Supers. In this state, Yamcha's base power level is doubled and his body becomes shrouded in a crimson aura. Though Yamcha did train under King Kai after he was killed during the Saiyan conflict, he is never shown using this technique in either the manga or the anime. This power-up form does not return in Xenoverse 2, nor can its Awoken Skill be added to Yamcha's custom skillset via Partner Customization (he shares this trait with Krillin who, could also use it in Xenoverse).

Yamcha as a Super Saiyan 3 in Dragon Ball SD
In a Dragon Ball SD promotion to congratulate Saikyo Jump on its third anniversary, Yamcha appears as a Super Saiyan 3 along with Puar, Kid Goku, Krillin, and Master Roshi. In this form, Yamcha's hair turns golden blonde and becomes longer, while his eyebrows disappear. However, due to the nature of the Dragon Ball SD manga this form is little more than a gag transformation (as Yamcha is a pure Human-type Earthling and would normally be incapable of said transformation which is exclusive to Saiyans and partial Saiyans).

Supervillain Yamcha
In Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2, Yamcha is enhanced by the dark magic of the Time Breakers in Parallel Quest 86: "Yamcha Is Number One" which causes Goten to appear in Conton City to find someone to help bring Yamcha back to his senses.
When merely corrupted by the Dark Magic his power is greatly increased beyond what Yamcha was capable of at that moment in history, able to stand toe to toe with Adult Gohan, Piccolo and Tien at the same time, with Gohan commenting that a single blow from Yamcha was capable of knocking a fighter of Gohan's caliber out cold.
After being defeated, Yamcha revives shaving off life to increase power and undergoes the Supervillain transformation. In this form Yamcha is referred to as Evil Yamcha (or Yamcha•Supervillain).[26] This transformation causes the user's body color to change to a pale shade of white, their eyes glowing a hot pink color, and he gains the Time Breaker's broken infinity on his forehead. This form also grants him access to some of the Time Breaker's Super Skills such as Towa's Bloody Sauce, Mira's Phantom Fist, and Darkness Mixer, in addition to Yamcha's original techniques such as Spirit Ball and Neo Wolf Fang Fist.
When Yamcha was finally brought down he had no memory of what happened. Yamcha's Supervillain form becomes playable after PQ 86 is completed.
In the Expert Mission 13: "A History of Mixed Battles", Supervillain Yamcha may appear as a random opponent. He also utilizes the first stage power-up version in Parallel Quest 53: "The Fist of Justice!" along with Krillin, Tien, Goten, Kid Trunks, and Good Buu. Interestingly, Yamcha is the only Z Fighter who can utilize the second stage Supervillain transformation as all other users are villains.
- Tiencha

Tiencha
Tiencha is the fusion of Yamcha and his ally Tien Shinhan. He appears in the video games Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 2 and Dragon Ball Fusions.
- EX Yamhan
Main article: EX Yamhan The EX-Fusion of Yamcha and Tien introduced in Dragon Ball Fusions. He is Tiencha's EX Fusion counterpart. Though weaker than his Metamoran Fusion counterpart, EX Yamhan can remain fused as long as he wears his Metamo-Ring.
- Yamcule
Yamcule is a hypothetical fusion of Yamcha and Mr. Satan. It is a "Fusion Frenzy" card in the Dragon Ball Collectible card game, however, the card itself does not depict the fused character, instead showing the two fusing characters beside each other.
- Yamta

Yamta is the EX-Fusion of Yamcha and Vegeta who was introduced in Dragon Ball Fusions.

Yamcha is one of the few Z Fighters who are shown to drive on a regular basis in Dragon Ball Z. The other is Yajirobe, but Piccolo has been seen driving once, Goku and Tien have been seen driving twice each, and Vegeta once.
- Azure Dragon Sword – A sword Yamcha uses to fight with on rare occasions.
- Nunchucks – Used in Curse of the Blood Rubies. Yamcha is also seen briefly holding them in the anime episode "Final Showdown" as well as its manga counterpart.
- Machine Gun – Yamcha is seen holding a submachine gun similar to a Russian PPSh-41 the morning following his first meeting with Goku and his friends.
- Panzerfaust – Yamcha's Rocket Launcher, which he uses to destroy Oolong's House-Wagon.
- Jet Squirrel – A flying jet scooter.
- Mighty Mouse – Yamcha's Old Fashioned Buggy. This is also his favorite car.[3] Used to track Goku, Bulma and Oolong from Diablo Desert to Fire Mountain.
- Silverstar 4 – Yamcha's hovercar. He used it to track Goku, Bulma and Oolong from Fire Mountain to Pilaf's Castle. In the filler episode "He's Always Late", Yamcha has a new hovercar.
- Weighted Clothing - Clothing fitted with built-in weights to make them heavier than ordinary clothes.
- Senzu Bean - Mystical beans with immense rejuvenation properties.

In Shenron no Nazo, Yamcha is renamed Lancer in Dragon Power, the edited American release of the game.
Yamcha is a playable character in the first Dragon Ball Z based game, Dragon Ball Z: Kyōshū! Saiyan.
In Shin Budokai, Yamcha plays a major role in Janemba's story as right when Janemba is about to wish for world domination, Yamcha bursts in and wishes for a fancy necklace for his girlfriend. After proclaiming he has saved the world, Yamcha runs off as Janemba chases him.
In Budokai Tenkaichi 3, there is tournament known as Yamcha Game. In this tournament, the player is not allowed to choose his own character and the final battle is against Yamcha himself.
In Raging Blast, there is a What-if story called "Yamcha's Resolve" where Yamcha faces Vegeta and beats him trying to prove that he should be Bulma's lover. Future Trunks appears to stop Yamcha changing history and making Trunks not exist, but Yamcha defeats Vegeta anyway. However, since Yamcha was a bit of a playboy according to the game, the future would not be altered anyway.
In Ultimate Tenkaichi, along with Krillin and Android 16, Yamcha is one of the starting masters in the Hero Mode. He is present if the player uses a Standard-type custom character.
In Xenoverse, in addition to appearing in the main story, he appears in the GT Pack 1 DLC as one of the Future Warrior's optional Masters. His Turtle School uniform also appears as a clothing option, the DLC outfit Yamcha's Clothes which he wore during his days as a desert bandit, and Yamcha's Sword appears as an accessory. His long hairstyle from the Saiyan Saga is also one of the Warrior's selectable hair options.
In Xenoverse 2, Yamcha appears once again as one of the Optional Masters for the Future Warrior. He sometimes appear on the Resort District/Kame Island in Conton City and gives the Future Warrior an optional sidequest of having them collecting the turtle stones he'll throw (the stones can be found in random locations); after the player collects the stones, he will reward them with TP Medals (the number of TP Medals depend on how fast the player can obtain the turtle stones). It also to note that there are more turtle stones lying around than what the player is required to find.
In Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, Yamcha is a Support Only Character like his fellow Earthlings Krillin, Tien, and Chiaotzu. Interestingly he does not have his Wolf Fang Fist or any of its variants as a Super Attack. However he can utilize Super Attacks such as the Kamehameha, Spirit Ball, and can Taunt to cause enemies to target him.

- Saibamen - In The Case of Being Reincarnated as Yamcha, Yamcha is the one to kill the Saibamen. (Since the original Saibamen was forced to self destruct it could be said that Yamcha indirectly killed one of the Saibamen in the canonical timeline)
- Nappa - In The Case of Being Reincarnated as Yamcha, Yamcha is the one to kill Nappa, finishing him with a Kamehameha.

- In Dragon Ball Forever poll of the Top 20 best characters, Yamcha was voted number 15 by Japanese fans. This is above Tien Shinhan, Bulma, and Yajirobe.
- Yamcha is the first Z-fighter to have ever fought Goku or have a slight edge over him in the series, and is in fact Goku's first legitimate battle outside of his original home.
- In every World Martial Arts Tournament Yamcha has been in, he has always lost in a quarter-final match (in the 21st he was defeated by Jackie Chun, in the 22nd he lost to Tien, and in the 23rd he was defeated by Hero who was actually Kami).
- In the anime, Yamcha is the first Z Fighter seen with a full-time paying job. Yamcha can be seen playing for a baseball team called the "Taitans". "TAITAN" (タイタン) is the Japanese spelling of "Titan", which is also the name of several sports teams.
- In "The Androids Appear", Android 19's scanner reads that Yamcha's address is NB: 8250012B, his height is 183 cm, his weight is 68 kg, special ability is the Rouga Whowhoken, and that he is a Class B warrior. These statistics are also used in the Dragon Ball: Bouken Special.
- However Dragon Ball Fusions seems to contradict his fighting class, as he is labeled as a C-Rank fighter in that game. However the fighter Rank system (which are represented by G, S, A, B, and C with G-Rank being the highest and C-Rank the lowest) in Dragon Ball Fusions is likely different from the fighter Class system utilized by Android 19 and Dr. Gero as they utilize different terminology (Rank vs Class) .
- Yamcha has his own theme song sung by his voice actor Tōru Furuya. It is titled Wolf Hurricane and sings about his desert life and loneliness.
- Abel, the protagonist of the 1989 Dragon Quest OVA Dragon Warrior: Legend of the Hero Abel who was also designed by Akira Toriyama, also looks similar to Yamcha and even shares the same Japanese voice actor.

- Despite his supposed retirement, Yamcha still trains, and has fought (or at least prepared to) on occasions, such moments include:
- Olibu and Gorilla - Yamcha fights the two at the same time and after defeating them in a sparring match, he states that his passion for fighting has resurfaced in 7 years.
- Kid Buu - he and Krillin were the last to still be on their feet, after all the other dead fighters were defeated and shot a ki blasts at the Majin.
- Abo and Cado - While he never fought the two, though due to the chaos caused by Gotenks and Aka's fight, Yamcha jumped into action and used his Spirit Ball to destroy several large debris which nearly crushed Bulma, Puar, and Oolong. During that moment, it was revealed that he (as well as Krillin) was wearing his gi under his suit (much to Goku's surprise).
- Beerus - He and the others were seen preparing to face the God of Destruction after Goku was defeated and threatened to destroy the world.
- In the Universal Survival Saga (in the anime), Yamcha was very excited at the prospect of joining Team Universe 7 for the Tournament of Power - In the manga bonus panel, Yamcha is seen in his Team Universe 7 baseball uniform telling Puar that he has to train every now and then just in case of emergencies, remarking that it would look very bad if he couldn't assist the Z-Fighters.
- In FighterZ (which takes place in the Dragon Ball Super timeline) - Yamcha returns to action and assists Goku and co. against Android 21's clones, Frieza's faction, Cell, and the maniacal Android 21 herself.
- Yamcha is the only playable Z-Fighter in Xenoverse 2 which has a Supervillain form.
- There's a special dialogue between Yamcha and Turles, should they fight one-another - Yamcha will mention his vehicle being totaled, with the latter responding with ignorance of the situation. This is a reference to his vehicle being destroyed by Amond, one of Turles' henchmen in the Tree of Might film.
- Yamcha breaks the fourth wall in "A Challenge From Champa! This Time, a Baseball Game!", by saying that he won't let Vegeta play as the main character, during the baseball match between Universe 6 and Universe 7.
- In Dragon Ball: Fusions, if Tekka talks to Yamcha at Master Roshi's residence, he'll admit that he is more of a "sea" person.
- In FighterZ story mode, Yamcha is the only character to not have any special interaction with Android 21 (he only mentions her to Krillin that she is cute, but 21 herself is nowhere around). Although he does have a pre-battle dialogue towards Android 21 in VS mode, where he expresses dismay to fighting a girl (which is ironic considering his former fear of them and accusations of womanizing).
- On a similar note, in Bojack Unbound, Yamcha was seen briefly engaging Zangya in battle without any hindrances (unlike Krillin, whom was distracted by the latter's beauty).
- In Kakarot, Yamcha's womanizing is confirmed in at least two Sub Stories as he is revealed to have several girlfriends and even enlists Puar to shapeshift into him to keep up appearances by going on dates with them while Yamcha is deceased. However Puar is implied to be more of a gentleman than Yamcha. None of Yamcha's girlfriends are apparently aware of his womanizing.
