Yamcha (ヤムチャ Yamucha) is a character in the 2009 film Dragonball Evolution. He is an adaptation of Yamcha, one of the longest running protagonists of Akira Toriyama's Dragon Ball franchise and is portrayed by Joon Park.
Biography[]
As Goku, Master Roshi, and Bulma continue their journey for the seven Dragon Balls, they fall into an incredibly deep ditch. Straight after, Yamcha arrives, pretending to be a passer-by and offering help. Soon after though, Yamcha is revealed to be a bandit, who had dug the huge ditch to begin with. After some persuasion from Bulma that he'll get a reward, Yamcha joins the gang. He assists them in fighting against Lord Piccolo's Fu-Lum. After Piccolo manages to retrieve all the Dragon Balls with the help of his assistant Mai, he summons the dragon Shenron, while Yamcha, Goku, Roshi and Bulma enter the battlefield. During Goku's transformation into Oozaru, Yamcha assists Bulma in defeating Mai. After Goku recovers and defeats Lord Piccolo, the gang agree into resurrecting Roshi with the Dragon Balls.
Actor's insight[]
- "I always wanted to be a Hollywood actor, because I'm not good at the Korean language for acting in a Korean movie. Dragonball was my third audition in Hollywood. I went to the audition, and I was called up from the director to come audition again. When I went to audition again, there were actors who were well known in the U.S., so I had to fight them. I thought 'Not a chance,' because I'm 'god' in Korea, but a 's***' in the U.S. I entered the audition wearing a hat and shorts, and as soon as the director looked at me, he said 'You are Yamcha.' I still can't believe it. I won't appear the first 25% of the movie, but I will later on."
