Template:Episode infobox Vegeta... Saiyan Style! is the twenty fourth episode of the Saiyan Saga and the twenty fourth overall episode in the Saban dub of the Dragon Ball Z series.

Summary

As Vegeta finishes his transformation into a Great Ape, Gohan and Krillin turn around and see the ball of light that Vegeta had created. They both look at each other in horror when they realize what it might be. Once Vegeta finally completes his transformation, he tries to attack Goku with a substantially better grip on things. Goku is able to dodge most of the attacks, and remembers Grandpa Gohan warning him of a giant ape monster, and then remembers how while training at the Lookout, Kami offered to remove his tail in exchange for restoring the moon. Goku somehow comes to the conclusion that it was Vegeta who killed his grandfather and destroyed the World Martial Arts Tournament stadium, and plots to use his last trick, the Spirit Bomb, to destroy Vegeta once and for all and thus avenge his grandfather. Gohan tells Krillin that he has to help his father and they both fly back to the battlefield.

Goku gathers energy for the Spirit Bomb

Goku raises his arms for the Spirit Bomb, but is trashed by Vegeta when he tries to evade his attack. Vegeta flies head-on at Goku, but Goku jumps up right in front of Vegeta's face and uses Tien Shinhan's Solar Flare technique to blind Vegeta for a brief period of time. He flies off to gather energy for the Spirit Bomb, leaving Vegeta in immense pain. Goku calls upon the plants, animals, and all other wildlife to donate some of their ki to him. He gathers enough ki for the Spirit Bomb, but Vegeta had already regained his vision, and was flying straight toward him. Goku raises his arm to launch the Spirit Bomb, but Vegeta launches a Chou Makouhou that connects with Goku in a matter of seconds. Goku loses hold of the Spirit Bomb, and falls to the ground.

Vegeta tortures Goku in his Great Ape form

Vegeta approaches the fallen Goku, and raises his leg. He stomps on Goku's legs, breaking both of them. Vegeta raises his arm, and begins to drive it down toward Goku when suddenly, Goku fires a Ki Blast straight into Vegeta's eye. However, this was Goku's last bit of energy, and he is left completely helpless. An angry Vegeta grabs Goku in both hands and begins to squeeze him to death, but stops when he hears someone approaching him.

Quotes

Vegeta: (To Goku) I'm going to squash you flatter then a pancake! And I like my pancakes very flat.
Goku:(To the Earth) The rivers, the trees, the wind, and all things living in nature. Please offer me your fighting spirit. I ask of you, please.

Trivia

  • This is the only time in the manga where a character retains their consciousness and control after transforming into a Great Ape.
  • Due to a mistranslation, Goku apparently believes Vegeta, in his Great Ape form, to be the one responsible for destroying the Martial Arts Stadium and crushing his grandfather. This is likely because Goku was referring to the Great Ape in a generic way, and not specifically Vegeta himself, but since the Dragon Ball anime was dubbed into English at a later date, FUNimation did not know this and believed Goku was referring to Vegeta. This is corrected in the FUNimation re-dub, which was produced after they dubbed Dragon Ball.
