Dragon Ball Wiki

Hey there loyal Dragon Ball fans! This is your local freak here with a new blog series. In this series, I, Jeff, will give a review on a manga I have read or am reading if it is still in print. My scoring system will be based on a simple 1-10, and only whole numbers, no decimals. Today's manga, Beelzebub!

Overview[]

Beelzebub is about a delinquent named Tatsumi Oga who comes across a demon baby that is the son of the Demon king himself. Oga becomes the parental figure to Beelzebub, and has to take care of him until he can become the king of the demons.

Setting[]

Beelzebub takes place in a Japanese city that is practically controlled by the various gangs and rebels that inhabit it. The story is mostly told in a high school that has absolutely no rule system and is under the complete control of the various delinqents that go to school there.

Overall, the setting is fairly tacky and overdone, but the way the mangaka plays out the cheesy location is fairly well done.

6/10

Characters[]

I shall discuss three of the more prominent characters each time I do a review. Maybe more if I feel it is needed.

Oga Tatsumi & Beelzebub[]

Oga is the main protagonist of the series. He is INCREDIBLY strong for a human, even without the power boost from Beelze, and is not afraid to use his power. Even though he is strong, he doesn't go around destroying everything. He will look for fights, though, and will almost never turn one down. Beelze is the little, adorable, ever-naked, and insanely strong demon baby that Oga always has on his shoulders. This kid doesn't say or do too much, but he does make cute baby talk and will always supply Oga with extra power.

Takayuki Furuichi[]

Oga's best friend, and the comedy relief/voice of reason in the series. He isn't very strong, but will always back up Oga. He can be whiny, and is a bit of a pervert, but he means well and will do anything for a friend. Plus he's funny as hell.

The Tohoshinki[]

The four strongest people at Ishiyama High School, and Oga's allies. They are, in order of weakest to strongest, Hajime Kanzaki, Tatsuya Himekawa, Aoi Kunieda*Only girl*, and Hidetora Tojo. They are all fairly powerful compared to most of the people in the town, but only Kunieda and Tojo can come close to rivaling Oga in power. Aoi has her own group of lackees, known as the Red Tail*A group of only girls*. But Tojo is undoubtedly the strongest of the group, being Oga's longstanding rival. I would love to get more in depth with these characters, but that would take forever.

Overall,  a good group of people who differ in personality, which is always good. I love these characters.

9/10

Plot[]

I can not stress enough how much I love the storyline. Oga has to first work his way to the top of his school, fight demons, and even another school's champions at one point, only to have to take back his own high school*Happening now*, I know I don't do the plot any justice talking about it so vaguely, but I refuse to give spoilers of any kind about such an amazing manga.

10/10

It's just so good.

Final analysis[]

With a plot that doesn't repeat itself too much, characters that add a strong backbone for the series, and the only real downside being the average setting*which is done well nonetheless* I give this manga a.... Drumroll please

8/10!

Post in the comments if you agree, disagree, or don't care. Comments are just nice~

And also, post what manga you want me to do next!
