Don't know if this is the right forum part or time to talk about it, honestly, I'm not even sure that I'm right guy who can pull it off, but the Gundam counterpart seems alright with my own similar thread about the Universal Century and I feel like I must at least say what's on my mind. Can't keep it bothered up, after all. And it doesn't have to be me who writes the thing. If anyone here also does some fan projects, take this as a sort of guide for new ideas in a manner of speaking.
Anyway, for the truth to be told, I've been thinking of a Dragon Ball universe that's much different from what Akira made. I mean no disrespect. Without him, there'd be no Kamehameha shouting, songs about Frieza and Vegeta, or that Dragon Ball reference I added in my Mario/Sonic story. However, despite what I've been told of him being quick on manga updates, I do think he made some choices that hint to a lack of foresight. The time travel discrepancy in the Android arc, leaving a game changer like Raditz dead, introducing King Cold as a powerfulfather to someone as evil and perhaps even more dangerous as Frieza, the times where we see Goku or Gohan's "man-parts", and, as I look back on some stuff, there seemed to have been a lack of character development as well. I'm not trying to complain about it or blame him for it, I just think there comes a time for a franchise to get a makeover, so to speak. And if a manga/anime is unlikely to get rebooted, then a fan fiction writer can always come to the challenge.
To the next subject, my ideas come and go on the matter on what to do, however, if it was me, I would do what I can to give characters like Yamcha and Krillin less backseat roles and more background information like how my associate has done for the former, make Goku less naïve, but no less funny and easy going, have an initial reason for the Dragon Balls, as well as aware of his Saiyan family and heritage, who I'd reintroduce to have had initially something real to be proud of other than Darwinist bloodlust before taking a tragic turn in their society, and perhaps a few more things from my own mind or from being inspired by other canonical and otherwise stories like this guy's.
Of course, with these considerations, it might make some aspects like the Dragon Balls themselves difficult to maintain. I wouldn't want to make anything too innocent with the seemingly okay revival with the Balls scheme, but I'm not quite a fan of slow turnings and I firmly believe that a written story should be written orderly and descriptively as any novel.
It's a lot to consider I know. But it's just something to think about. Any constructive input would be welcome. And please don't get mad if this was the wrong general discussion area to talk about such things. Here's a similar journal entry on DeviantART.
