The Red Ribbon Army (マッスルタワーの恐怖 Massuru Tawā no Kyōfu, lit. "The Terror of Muscle Tower") is the fifth volume of the original Dragon Ball manga series written by Akira Toriyama. It was released on January 9, 1987 in Japan and in March 2003 for the English version. It covers the end of the Tournament Saga and the beginning of the Red Ribbon Army Saga.
Volume introduction by Akira Toriyama
"I’ve mentioned this lots of times already, but I really don’t like the cold. When you turn on the heat, your head goes into a daze, and when you turn it off, your hands get numb and you can’t hold your pen properly. Because of that, when it gets cold, I stop riding my motorbike and my bicycle almost completely, and use the car all the time instead. Frankly speaking, I’m a sissy of a rider. It’s enough for me to want to hibernate: Come on, spring! Get here soon! Every winter’s day is filled with longing."
Goku’s fight against Jackie Chun comes down to a single kick, with Jackie emerging the winner. Goku sets out to find out his grandfather’s Four-Star Ball, but quickly becomes entangled with the Red Ribbon Army, a paramilitary force that is also seeking the Dragon Balls for their own end. After quickly dispatching Colonel Silver, Goku finds himself far to the north in Jingle Village, where he takes on General White and his fortress, Muscle Tower.
