Tamagami Number Three (タマガミ・ナンバー・スリー Tamagami Nanbā Surī) is one of the Tamagamis created by Neva to act as protectors for the Demon Realm Dragon Balls.

Appearance[]

Tamagami Number Three is the shortest of the three Tamagamis. He has red eyes, a pair of beige horns, a bulky frame and thin legs. Tamagami Number Three's entire body is covered in a beige armor with a grey body underneath. He has the Three-Star Dragon Ball on his chest which has a similar design to Battle Armor. His hands consist of three fingers with his projectiles in his palms. He also has spikes on each of his shoulders.

Personality[]

Tamagami Number Three has a somewhat boisterous and easygoing personality, posing dramatically before fighting Goku. He has a keen sense of battle and shares Goku's appreciation for fair fighting, as he complimented him for not using his Power Pole after he had broken Number Three's hammer. Additionally, he was willing to surrender upon recognizing he was no match for Super Saiyan 2 Goku.

He respects opponents who provide him a fair fight and will stop the battle after making a judgement of their character and seeing if they are worthy of the Dragon Ball or not. His respect for Goku was such that after Goku departed he was shown imitating the Kamehameha stance and somewhat trying to pull it off through various attempts.

Biography[]

Background[]

After Neva created the Dragon Balls of the Demon Realm, he created the Tamagamis to protect them. Due to their strength, no one in the Demon Realm would be able to have a wish granted for a long time.[1] At some point Dabura attempted to gather the Dragon Balls and challenged Tamagami Number Three but was unable to defeat him. 20 years ago, a guy with a big gun challenged Tamagami Number Three and lost in an instant.[2]

Goku battles Tamagami Number Three

In a small village, Tamagami Number Three is guarding the Three-Star Demon Realm Dragon Ball and is challenged by Goku for it.[2] After boldly introducing itself, it fights Goku in a fierce battle, using its surprising speed and heavy hammer to match Goku who is using the Power Pole. Goku eventually turns Super Saiyan, breaking Number Three's hammer before sheathing his Power Pole to engage in unarmed combat. Number Three accepts and resumes the fight, revealing its ability to launch energy blasts by firing at Goku as he circles the guardian. Number Three then reveals its full power and prepares a massive attack, prompting Goku to turn Super Saiyan 2 and launch his Super Kamehameha in response. The energy wave quickly overwhelms Number Three's attack and nearly topples him, but he barely manages to deflect it only to end up leaving himself open to Goku's follow-up elbow strike. Recognizing he is totally outmatched, Number Three surrenders, but warns Goku that he has yet to claim the Dragon Ball, as they have one final battle left.

As it turns out, the final battle is a glorified shell game - Tamagami Number Three removes its Dragon Ball and places it inside one of five cups, challenging Goku to guess which cup it resides in before mixing them up at rapid speed. Additionally, like most shell games, Number Three pulls a sleight of hand trick and tosses the Dragon Ball out of its cup to hover over a nearby villager's head, but Goku still keeps up and guesses correctly. Number Three returns to its pedestal and repairs his hammer before congratulating Goku, acknowledging his desire for a fair fight and wishing him luck against the remaining Tamagami. As Goku and his company depart, Tamagami Number Three is seen practicing Kamehameha movements before spotting their ship and waving them goodbye.[3]

Tamagami Number Three looks at the energy Goku gives off when transforming into a Super Saiyan 4 and the Transcendent Power Kamehameha he fired through all Three Demon Worlds.[4][5]

Power[]

The Tamagamis are some of the most powerful warriors in the Demon Realm as they prevented anyone from acquiring the Demon Realm Dragon Balls in a long time. Dabura was unable to defeat Tamagami Number Three when he fought it. King Kadan believed that with Goku having defeated Majin Buu, he predicted that Goku could easily stand up to the Tamagami.

Against Goku, Tamagami Number Three proved to be a formidable opponent, able to force him into using Super Saiyan and still keeping pace. When faced with Goku as a Super Saiyan 2, Tamagami Number Three is at a clear disadvantage, even with his Fury state active. He could hold back and deflect his Super Kamehameha but was knocked down once Goku's follow up elbow strike landed. This led to the Tamagami Number Three conceding immediately despite still being able to continue fighting.

Techniques and Special Abilities[]

  • Fighting Pose - Being a fight enthusiast and a warrior by nature, Tamagami Number Three takes up fighting stances to better suit the opponent he is about to face.
  • Telekinesis - Using telekinesis the Tamagami is able to crush its opponents via his hammer by forcefully pushing it on them. He also uses it to call it back to him or throw it at his opponents.
  • Energy Blast - Tamagami Number Three can fire crimson blasts from the nodes on its palms, though whether due to magic or ki is unknown.
  • Continuous Energy Bullet - Tamagami Number Three fires energy blasts at a continuous pace to overwhelm and slowdown his opponents in hopes to lock them in place and prevent them from escaping the incoming barage of blasts.

Trivia[]

  • Tamagami Number Three's mannerisms are akin that to a stage boss in video games. This includes his over-the-top introduction, presenting himself as the final obstacle of the world before the characters can progress further and finally wishing Goku and gang good luck for the journey ahead. This comes as no surprise as Akira Toriyama worked on Dragon Quest for nearly 40 years and slipped in some of those elements into the story's characters and world.
  • Tamagami Number Three's large hammer and fighting style with it bears a striking resemblance to Thor's Mjölnir.
  • Tamagami Number Three is the only Tamagami who hasn't shown the ability to fly.
