Manga usage[]
The closest this attack is seen, in the manga, is Freeza charging it up before getting caught in Goku's Genki Dama. He doesn't actually use it on Trunks.
Power[]
The Death Ball seems to work as a core buster rather than a pure explosion attack, seeming to mean that, manga-wise, the blast itself is not strong enough to destroy the earth. Ironically, in the anime, Trunks stops it and it explodes on the surface, leaving only a large crater.
The attack he used on Trunks was the Supernova, which is either a different attack or subclass.
The scene in the anime filler where Vegeta casually destroys a planet (Arlia?) is highly contradictory to the demonstrated power of the death ball. It takes such a massive ball of energy to destroy the earth by traveling all the way to the core, and Vegeta just casually blows up a whole planet. The Bardock Special and the first Broly movie's depiction of Planet Vegeta's destruction also seem odd in this light.
Of course later on, SSJ Goku is said to have enough energy for a planet ten times over. This presumably means his max power output would create a blast which would destroy a planet ten times the size of the earth, which would take much much more than ten times Frieza's death ball.
Kid Buu demonstrates an energy ball with enough energy to "destroy the earth ten times over", and this is a pure explosion rather than a core buster.Dragon Ninja 14:08, 16 November 2008 (UTC)Dragon Ninja

Revenge Death Ball[]
Does Baby's revenge death ball relate at all to this move, and should it perhaps be metion in this article? I'm wondering if we should at least say "It is unclear whether Baby's Revenge Death Ball is somehow related to this technique"--Black kille 19:16, September 22, 2010 (UTC)

Super 17's Shocking Death Ball[]
Is the Shocking Death Ball more or less a variation of the regular Death Ball? The name's SupremeGotenks, there's no use hiding. You can fight me or surrender. Either way, you're screwed. 21:11, August 27, 2012 (UTC)
