"Super Heroes are Born" (スーパーヒーロー誕生 Sūpāhīrō Tanjō) is the 88th chapter of the Dragon Ball Super manga.
Summary[]
Following the battles on the Planet Cereal and the startling revelation of "Black Frieza", Goku and Vegeta, aware of having fallen behind to the galactic tyrant, continue their training on Beerus' Planet.
Meanwhile on Earth, Trunks and Goten, now teenagers and attending high school, take on the role of local superheroes known as Saiyaman X-1 and Saiyaman X-2 respectively. After stopping a couple of daytime robbers in Mosquito Town, the two talk on a nearby rooftop where Trunks decides to ask Pilaf to create a transformation watch like what Gohan used to have. As the two begin to head home, Trunks, while still in his superhero uniform, runs into his grandparents along with their pet dinosaur Dino. As he makes a quick getaway to avoid exposing his identity, Dr. Brief and Pansy are shocked when they see a swarm of their Helper Bots running wild down the road. However, they are even more shocked when a Zombie appears before them.
The following day, after Trunks puts in his request to Pilaf and greets Mai and Bulma, he takes off to Blue Hal High School. However, he is late again and is scolded by his teacher. After class he speaks with his friends Rulah, Skale, and Kompas who inform him of a rumor of ghosts making an appearance in an abandoned mansion on Butterfly Mountain. They ask him if he wants to check it out with them after school as a dare, but Trunks blows them off by telling them ghosts are silly and that he is busy. In truth, the idea of ghosts and other spooky beings unnerves Trunks a great deal.
After school, Goten and Trunks play games together at Capsule Corporation when Trunks tells his friend of his intention and desire to ask Mai out to go see a movie. He seeks her out, busy at work repairing the malfunctioned Helper Bots and unable to attend. Shu tells Trunks of another rumor that during the nighttime, strange people appear to tamper with the Helper Bots. Figuring that if he were to catch the ones responsible and thus Mai would be able to take the night off, Trunks informs Goten of their new mission.
At night, the two walk around when Trunks runs into the creepy Alpha Series Android and darts off, accidentally breaking his transformation watch in the process. An elderly man walks by with his Helper Bot when it begins to malfunction and believing the creep to be responsible, they tail him back to a mansion. Though now unnerved at the possibility of running into more spooks, Trunks plucks up the courage to investigate with his hopes of a date with Mai taking precedent over his fears.
The two sneak up to the mansion and look through the window to see the strange Alpha Series working the Helper Bots with Trunks understanding that they must have reprogrammed them. One of the spooks notices Trunks' trio of school friends and when he threatens to beat them, Trunks borrows Goten's transformation watch and confronts them, taking them and the assisting Helper Bots down with ease, though he finds Alpha 12 to be a much sturdier target. In the middle of Trunks' next attack, the watch suddenly malfunctions, and his identity is briefly revealed to his friends before Goten quickly takes out the lights and takes his friends outside. Trunks meanwhile offers to reveal his location and transforms into a Super Saiyan to light up the darkened room before taking down Alpha 12 with a single punch.
Investigating further, Trunks finds a safe containing a data disc created by Dr. Gero and takes it with him to look at back at home. As they make their way out of the mansion they run into Krillin, doing an investigation of his own as recently deceased people had been stolen from the morgue and residents nearby had seen them walking around. Back at the mansion, Dr. Hedo returns only to find his Alpha Series defeated and his data disc stolen but is informed that the one responsible belongs to the Blue Hal High School.
The next day, Trunks asks Mai once again if she can go to the movies with him but is devastated to hear that she cannot as she is now stuck fixing the very same Helper Bots that Trunks destroyed.
