Super Dragon Ball Heroes is a promotional non-televised anime web series for the Dragon Ball Heroes video game that began on July 1, 2018.

Multiple manga are being published alongside the anime authored by Yoshitaka Nagayama.

Release

The anime was pre-screened for the first time in AEON LakeTown on July 1, 2018. It was streamed live on the official website on the same date. Unlike previous series, it does not air on broadcast television and airs on a sporadic schedule. However, in summer of 2020, it was revealed that the anime will have a monthly upload schedule, despite the Covid-19 pandemic.

The first part of the series is referred to as Super Dragon Ball Heroes: Universe Mission (スーパードラゴンボールヒーローズ: ユニバースミッション, Sūpā Doragon Bōru Hīrōzu: Yunibāsu Misshon) and is composed of the Prison Planet Saga and Universal Conflict Saga, while the second part is Super Dragon Ball Heroes: Big Bang Mission which comprises the Universe Creation Saga and New Space-Time War Saga.

Overview

For the Dragon Ball Super characters, the events take place after the Universe Survival Saga. For the "Xeno" characters the events occur after the Dark King Mechikabura Saga.

Story

"Trunks" returns from the future to train with Goku and Vegeta. However, he abruptly vanishes. The mystery man "Fu" suddenly appears, telling them Trunks has been locked up on the "Prison Planet", a mysterious facility in an unknown location between universes. The group searches for the Dragon Balls to free Trunks, but an unending super battle awaits them! Will Goku and the others manage to rescue Trunks and escape the Prison Planet?"^[1]

Trivia

The anime has been met with mixed reviews, with fans rating the anime from decent to soulless to trying to figure out what it's actually accomplishing.
The anime didn't follow a release schedule until around mid to late-2020 when it announced that it will follow a monthly schedule, despite concerns surrounding the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
On November 15th, 2020, the Saiyan Avatars, Beat and Note, alongside the new God of Destructicion Avatars made their anime debut, commemorating the 10th anniversary of the Dragon Ball Heroes series. The special episode sees Beat tapping into Ultra Instinct -Sign-.
- The episode, which was named "Push Forward to the Battlefield! Dragon Ball Heroes!", was met with critical praise, with some commenting on how it should have been the main focus of the promotional anime from the start, let alone, be its own anime series.
