Super Dragon Ball Heroes: Dark Demon Realm Mission! (スーパードラゴンボールヒーローズ暗黒魔界ミッション! Sūpā Doragon Bōru Hīrōzu Ankoku Makai Misshon!) is a spin-off manga. It tells the story of the conflict between the Time Patrol and the Dark Empire. It is written and illustrated by Yoshitaka Nagayama and began publication on August 5, 2016.

Following the end of Part 1, the manga was followed up by Super Dragon Ball Heroes: Universe Mission!!. After a hiatus of over a year, the manga resumed with Part 2 that ran concurrently alongside the Universe Mission!! manga. On February 1, 2020, both manga finished their publication and was replaced by Super Dragon Ball Heroes: Big Bang Mission!!!. The manga's final chapter was later adapted into Episode 20 of the Super Dragon Ball Heroes anime.

The series is based on the original story material that debuted in Dragon Ball Heroes. The first chapter is a loose adaptation of the first quarter of the Dark Demon Realm Saga, with an additional introduction for Xeno Trunks and a confrontation with Demigra at the Time Nest added to the story, and the rest of the series is based on the Dark Empire and Dark King Mechikabura Sagas.

Timeline placement[]

The first chapter showcases Future Trunks some time after he defeats Cell in his own timeline being teleported away to an unknown period in the future where he makes his debut as a Time Patroller. The other "Xeno" characters, with the exception of Xeno Pan, come from unknown timelines.

The story follows Xeno Trunks soon after the defeat of Cell in his own timeline, becoming a Time Patroller and assisting Chronoa in confronting the Time Breakers, later known as the Dark Empire Forces from the Demon Realm. The Dark Empire having released their leader, Mechikabura from the Crack of Time, plan to retrieve artifacts known as the Dark Dragon Balls, which have scattered across time and space, in order to restore him back into the prime of his youth. However, the Dark Dragon Balls have merged with past villains, giving them new found might.

To assist Xeno Trunks, Chronoa recruits Xeno Goku, Xeno Vegeta, Xeno Gohan and Xeno Goten. The crew travel to different points in time where they confront the hosts for the Dark Dragon Ball as well as several Demon Gods who serve under Mechikabura including Towa. Along the way, the Time Patrol also meet Chamel, a mysterious being with an objective of his own who assists them for reasons unexplained. Nevertheless the Demon Gods gather the seven Dark Dragon Balls first and begin the process of restoring Mechikabura back to his prime.

Chronoa, the Time Patrol and Chamel travel to the Demon Realm where they attempt an assault on Mechikabura's tower. However the Demon Gods are able to buy enough time for Mechikabura to have his wish granted. As a last resort, Chronoa seals both herself and Mechikabura away in the Crack of Time with the Time Patrol vowing to save her afterwards. Chamel meanwhile reports back to his master, Demigra, who now believes it is the ideal time to move forward with his plans.

Some time later, Mechikabura breaks free from the Crack of Time with a brainwashed Chronoa now under his control. While the Time Patrol travel to Age 790 to deal with another change in history, Dabura and Towa arrive with her latest creation Fin. During the battles, Demigra and his minions, Chamel and Robelu, appear and assist the Time Patrol due to Mechikabura being a bigger threat to his plans. When the brain washed Chronoa appears, Robelu uses her magic to transport herself, her allies and the Time Patrol to Demigra's hideout.

There they decide to split up in order to destroy each of the six Hell Gates maintaining the barrier to Mechikabura's palace, along with the Demon Gods defending it. After prevailing, Chronoa makes another appearance but this time Xeno Trunks is able to use his newly gained Key Sword to free her mind and return her to normal. Soon after Mechikabura appears and summons the previously defeated Demon Gods, Gravy, Putine, Salsa, Shroom and Dabura and absorbs them to enter into a Time Power Unleashed state of his own. He then travels to the Time Nest in order to obtain Tokitoki.

With assistance from his allies, Xeno Trunks is transformed into a Super Saiyan God and chases after Mechikabura. Demigra and the Time Patrol appear and confront Mechikabura, buying enough time for the Key Sword to be fully charged. Xeno Trunks proceeds to use the sword to seal Mechikabura away in an Eternal Labyrinth and Demigra and his minions leave, telling Chronoa that he will become the Supreme Kai of Time one day.
