Restraining Techniques ( Kanashibari no Jutsu[1]) are techniques that are used in order to incapacitate the opponent for an opening for attack or give enough time to the user to perform necessary action.

Overview[]

A downside to the restraining techniques is that generally most of them are only effective if the user is more powerful than the opponent. Otherwise, it is completely useless. This is demonstrated by General Blue's Psychic Eyes failure against Mercenary Tao in the anime, Chiaotzu's Psychic Spark failure against Nappa, as well as Bujin and Bido's Psycho Thread failure against Super Saiyan 2 Gohan.

However as shown by Merus' Stun Gun, it is possible to incapacitate even powerful fighters such as Saiyan beyond Gods if the restraining method does not originate from the user such as a device designed to restrain targets.

Sealing Techniques like the Evil Containment Wave and Sealing Spell are generally used to restrain and seal a target, making them ideal for dealing with enemies that can't be killed such as those with Immortality or cases where the target's death would be unwise (such as the cases of Beerus sealing Old Kai in the Z Sword and the Evil Containment Wave use against King Piccolo allowing his Life Linked counterpart Kami to survive). However as shown by Piccolo, it is possible to counter such techniques and turn them back on the user. Garlic Jr.'s Dead Zone can function as a Sealing Technique as it can be used to send one's enemies to a dimensional void. However, Dead Zone can easily be used against its user which ironically lead to the immortal Garlic Jr.'s defeat twice.

Draw is a Magic Energy Absorption based Restraining technique where the user draws an infinity symbol several times to trap the opponent inside a spherical energy cage that drains the opponent's health using an energy sphere within the user's palm to heal the user. After the energy absorption, the user crushes the energy sphere they are holding which causes the energy cage containing the opponent to explode.
