The Phantom Saiyans made their debut in the Dragon Ball Z franchise as rogue Saiyans in the filler episode "Pendulum Room Peril". Mr. Popo uses the Pendulum Room to send Krillin, Yamcha, Tien Shinhan, and Chiaotzu to Planet Vegeta in the past in order to fight these two Saiyans as part of their training. The Phantom Saiyans confront and easily defeat the four Z Fighters, starting with Chiaotzu and Krillin and finishing with Tien Shinhan and Yamcha.
