This article is about the technique portrayed in live-action by Justin Chatwin. For the original technique, see Great Ape.

The Oozaru (大猿, Ōzaru; ; Literally meaning "Great Monkey"; ) is a transformation technique in the Dragon Ball franchise. It makes its debut in the 2009 film Dragonball: Evolution, the first of a purported three installments of 20th Century Fox's live-action film series. It is an adaptation of the Great Ape, a transformation assumed by members of the Saiyan race in Akira Toriyama's franchise, and is portrayed by Justin Chatwin.

Overview

The Oozaru transformation is a technique which allows its user to shapeshift into a large primate. Unlike in Toriyama's original franchise however, the transformation in Dragonball: Evolution is triggered by staring into an eclipse, rather than a full moon, and its user does not require the tail of a Saiyan to transform.

Other appearances

The Oozaru transformation makes its first playable appearance in a Dragon Ball video game spin-off in Dragonball the Movie. In the game, the Oozaru fights against Master Roshi before fighting against Goku in a space-like environment in Goku's mind.[1]
