Oozaru (大猿, Ōzaru; ; Literally meaning "Great Monkey"; ) is a fictional character in the Dragon Ball franchise. He makes his debut in the 2009 film Dragonball: Evolution, the first of a purported three installments of 20th Century Fox's live-action film series. He is an adaptation of the Great Ape, a transformation assumed by members of the Saiyan race in Akira Toriyama's franchise, and is portrayed by Justin Chatwin. Unlike in Toriyama's original franchise, the transformation in Dragonball: Evolution is triggered by staring into an eclipse rather than a full moon, and its user does not require the tail of a Saiyan to transform. Its size is also dramatically reduced from the original series.
