AB Groupe[]

1989-nappa

Giochi Preziosi Dragon Ball Z series Nappa figure

  • Giochi Preziosi Dragon Ball Z series
  • Release date: 2003

The initial AB series of “Super Guerriers Articules” figures had a large repertoire of figures which would be re-released under multiple under licensed companies. This specific piece was originally produced in 1996 (dated 1989) by AB Groupe but did not see a proper release until 2003 under the “Giochi Preziosi” lineup. Nappa was quite a rarity as a 5.5 inch figure. Due to being a limited release exclusive to European collectors, the figure’s release date and actual original company remain a mystery. However, the model’s production being in 1996 and under AB’s run is a definite conclusive piece of information about this figure. It is unknown why this figure was not released in the original Super Guerriers lineup in 1996 along with the rest of the figures in that set. But it did have an official release by Giochi Preziosi in 2003, albeit being the only official release of the figure. This is Nappa’s only 5 inch scale model at the basic figure height other than the Irwin and Jakks model, which actually surfaced prior to this piece. This is likely one of Nappa's best figures in terms of height. The figure comes with his scouter and displays his militant warrior-like expression, giving a precise depiction to this Earth invader. The actual detail on Nappa’s face here is an acceptable likeness for an AB produced piece, being one of the best designed by the company. All his intricate details remain intact, including his armor, boots, and scouter. It is unknown why this piece was not released until 2003 but many collectors have deemed it a chase figure due to its limited supply and unusual release date.

This figurine was on scale with the Super Guerriers lineup released by AB in 1996 in the Coffret sets. Similar to the same miniature sets and produced by AB, it was released by Giochi Preziosi in 2003. The Nappa figurine fits in well with the rest of the AB Groupe Super Guerriers Coffret sets and the previously released Saga Continues lineup under Kidzbiz and Irwin Toy.

Bandai has released a set of collectible Kurosu (Cross) Keshi 1.5 inch snap-together figurines that have included a few of Frieza's elites. This Nappa figurine was released in the early 90's and is a great addition to the snap-together sets available. Nappa comes in a random-colored base with his removable chest-piece and armor (which is another color), which allows to be snapped onto his torso. The figurine is one of the very first Nappa pieces ever made, albeit not having any pose-ability features nor joints to maneuver his stances. The figurine stands at a perfect direct position with both hands beside him and both legs in unison. Even for a miniature gashapon piece, the figurine is very highly detailed. As the Nappa figurine is portrayed without his armor, it can easily be equipped onto the miniature piece. Other characters included in this same collectible gashapon series set are Zarbon, Dodoria, Turles, Raditz, Vegeta, Gohan, Krillin, Captain Ginyu in Goku's body, and Bardock.

SHFiguarts-Nappa-B

S.H. Figuarts Nappa figure

  • S.H. Figuarts Figure Series
  • Release date: August 2017

This extremely pose-able Nappa figure was first announced in the end of 2012 by Bandai. Initially revealed in 2012, its release date has been pushed back and it is the next in the S.H. Figuarts lineup for the Dragon Ball characters. Nappa's facial reaction here is that of complete shock and dismay, likely being a representation of the very scene that he becomes surprised to learn that Goku's power level is 8,000 (9,000 in the Ocean dub). His facial reaction here is on the mark and the detail on his body is excellent. The best feature on this piece is likely his mobility, allowing for his torso to be rotated in a clockwise and counterclockwise motion. This piece is likely the most mobile piece yet for Nappa's character and also one of the most detailed additions under the S.H. Figuarts series. In 2017 Bandai announced and initially revealed a re-issue of the Nappa figure. Pre-orders were launched on Bandai's website until June, 28th while in other countries the pre-order lasted until the release date. Officially confirmed, its release was August, 3 in both Japan and the US. In showcase of the figure it shows, Nappa, equipped with a purple scouter, performing his signature Volcano Explosion while showing a grimacing smile representation to Plant Arlia. This newer issue of Nappa greatly differs from the unreleased issue, the re-issue was scaled smaller and even more detailed with the joints more pose-able in contrast to the others figures of this line--and unlike the former, the armor is molded onto the figure. Similar to the other S.H. Figuarts products, this Nappa poseable joints and detachable pieces in order to emote the figure; the figure is overhauled with over 7 poseable joints (including the armor's plates) and comes with over 10 pieces to bring the character to life and capture his personality. The figure is more heavily built presenting a more accurate depiction of Nappa.

Scultures5Nappa

SCultures Series 5 Nappa

  • Dragon Ball Kai SCultures Zoukei Tenkaichi Budokai 5 Figure
  • Release date: 2015

Extremely highly detailed, this figure is likely one of the absolute best designs for Nappa's model sculpts. Very simple assembly is required to fit the figure together and the figure comes in a vicious battle-ready posture as he maintains his gripped hands and legs in preparation. The fierce expression on his face and the detail entailing his muscles, armor, and crouching position makes the figure a phenomenal addition to the SCultures series. • DragonBall EX Super Decisive Battle Series
  • Release date: July 2021
Ichiban Kuji Young Nappa

DragonBall EX Young Nappa

The newest installment to the Ichiban Kuji is their recent release of their Dragon Ball , harking from his youthful days which appears to be from the Bardock special complete with a full head of hair--before balding. As a successor, this figure exceeds beyond expectations and is sculpted with great detail met with a realistic paintjob that subsequentially contributes to the strain on the character's infuriated expression, emoting an enraged scream--even veins shoot up from the young Saiyan general's head and hulking muscles. Unusual to this figure are the muscles--atypical to most portrayals of Nappa, being slimmer in his youth. Additionally, the model's pose sets its apart from other Nappa figures, creating a new stance which combines his two traditional stances. Observing the promotional shots--which could be later the box art--the figure's palette has a vibrant skin tone, but dark on the armor with its traditional yellow and black coloration. This setting apart some contrast between colors and fleshing out the reddish tints of Nappa's skin, invoking the illusion of blood flowing, to which point, further compliments the Saiyan's personality. Moreover, the model is coated in a subtle gloss giving both spiky hair and the armor a reflective surface. And like the rest of the model, Nappa's tail scuplted with detail each groove representing the hairs presenting a rugged texture--as expected. The promotional shot shows only the young Saiyan brute in newest pose getting ready to brace for battle, with a printed logo of Ichibankuji (Left) along with the line's title (Right) and a release date scheduled for this July 2021. This figure comes set with a collection of other figures including an older Nappa (which also comes as variant to this model), Saiyan Saga Vegeta, Kid Gohan, and Kaio-ken Goku. Effectively, the Ichibankuji's Young Nappa is an imposing figure with stunning detail that exuberates the character's vicious personality to shine through.

Elitefighters-Nappa

The Elite Fighters series Nappa figure

  • The Elite Fighters
  • Release date: 2003

This repaint Nappa figure was a re-release of the previous model originally produced by Irwin. Released in 2003, the box art was designed to go along with “The Elite Fighters” set. Others included in this series were Burter, Jeice, Frieza form II, and Yajirobe & Korin. Aside from the box mockup and the overall minor paint adjustments, the figure primarily remains exactly the same as the previous model released by Irwin. Nappa still comes with a scouter, which can be equipped on the character’s face. Aside from this, the packaging also includes three random Dragon Balls.

AlienInvaders-NappaVegeta

Alien Invaders Nappa and Vegeta 2-pack

  • Alien Invaders Series 18 2-pack
  • Release date: 2007

Jakks Pacific has released a 2-pack of Nappa along with Vegeta in its Dragon Ball Z series additions to the 2-pack sets. Released in March, 2007, this specific 2-pack is entitled “Alien Invaders.” The box mockup is highlighted by an orange base, which is coincidentally altered for the next eventual release of these figures, being changed to a green base. Nappa is modeled to a perfect format with extreme detail and likely one of the best pieces in terms of Nappa’s paint job differentiating from prior Irwin Toy and Jakks Pacific releases. This 2-pack is quite a rarity as it was released in scarce quantities, coincidentally making this metallic paint job a rarity for any Nappa collection. The Nappa model, however, remains the same as the original Irwin Toy release aside from these alterations made to the paint job. In this variant, he is seen with a brown base to his armor as Vegeta wears an orange and neon green armor, which is likely a homage to their first initial appearance in the series.

AlienInvasion-Nappa

Alien Invasion Nappa and Vegeta 2-pack

  • Alien Invasion Series 21 2-pack
  • Release date: 2007

Jakks Pacific has re-released the same 2-pack of Nappa along with Vegeta but re-titled the set as “Alien Invasion” as opposed to “Alien Invaders.” Released in October, 2007, this specific 2-pack is highlighted by a green box mockup, unlike the prior Series 18 release which had an orange box mockup. This 2-pack is quite a rarity as it was released in scarce quantities, coincidentally making this metallic version of Nappa the rarest of the models in terms of paint job. However, the figure’s initial construct remains the same as previous releases. Like the previous "Alien Invaders" model, Nappa now maintains a brown coloring scheme to his armor as opposed to the original yellow version.

Mexican Nappa

Mexican manufacturer produced Nappa orange-armor figure

  • Dragon Ball Z GT Series
  • Release date: Unknown

This hard-to-find model was sculpted by a Mexican Manufacturer. The actual mold is quite unique and unlike other models, as many and most of the bases are just a redone instrumentation of other figures and/or just plain bootlegs of other sculpts. This one, however, is a new model in and of itself and was sculpted and sold as is. The paint job isn’t particularly brilliant but it is unique and isn’t on the poor side as is the case with most bootlegs or copied imports. Standing at 7 inches tall, this specific model is rather well-crafted and stands out amongst numerous others imported from these Mexican Manufacturers. Nappa here is in a prepared stance, with both arms tightly gripped. This version has an orange-tinted armor, placing a great deal of emphasis on his overall look. He also comes with a silver scouter.

Also, his knee is bent downward, allowing him to slightly crouch over as he maintains a hold on the ground whilst reaching outward. As he is in a moving position, he maintains a ferocious facial reaction to add to his deadly presence. The base is that of a ravaged gray battleground, enriched only by Nappa's humongous might, which provide a powerful addition to the shattered environment. The three Saiyans dominate the scene with their deadly positions and their determination. The Saibamen all have a unique position as well, slightly coming out of the ground in a mysterious yet deadly fashion. The scene depicts all the Saiyan forces in the Saiyan Saga and portrays their powerful presence with very precise detail. A recent release came in the form of a statue set which portrays Nappa along with a Young Prince Vegeta, who remains standing in front of him. This statue not only recreates the legendary enigma of Nappa and Vegeta's relationship prior as represented in Bardock - The Father of Goku but also depicts this powerful Saiyan military commander with his disciplined stature as he stands beside his royal Saiyan Prince, Vegeta, albeit both characters have a very dark palette for their skin tone.
