Meditation is a commonly used technique in the Dragon Ball series, allowing its users to enter a state of calm concentration to better channel, increase their awareness, and build up their ki to perform various feats.
Overview[]
The user enters a deep state of concentration to channel their ki energy, sometimes taking a particular stance such as the lotus position to better manage their focus. The technique calms and focuses the energy of the user and keeps their mind focused to use other techniques.
Usage[]
Nam used this technique repeatedly during the 21st World Martial Arts Tournament to prepare himself for his competition fights.
Tien Shinhan used this technique repeatedly to prepare himself for his first fight with Goku during the 22nd World Martial Arts Tournament and his later fight with King Piccolo.
Master Roshi used this technique to increase his strength and skill over the years during his youth while balancing on a stick during the King Piccolo wars[2]
Goku used this technique to train himself to improve his level of concentration and temper his spirit during his three years of training to prepare for his eventual fight with Piccolo Jr.[3]
Piccolo used this technique repeatedly during training or relaxation in the wilderness to better control his ki and temper his concentration.
Dabura used this technique to prepare for his fight against Gohan.
Jiren used this technique to temper his ki and relax himself during the Tournament of Power, only ending the technique when he sensed a threat.
Vegeta meditates in order to train his mind after having a revelation.
In Dragon Ball GT, Nam is meditating on a mountain until Goku takes him to Planet Tuffle to escape Earth's destruction.
Film Appearances[]
In Dragon Ball Z: Lord Slug, Piccolo meditates until Gohan starts to whistle.
In Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, Vegeta meditates in order to use the method Jiren used to channel his power to be utilized at just the right moment. Piccolo meditates until he is attacked by Gamma 2.
Video Game Appearances[]
In Xenoverse 2, it appears as an Emote option under Emotes 41: "Meditation". As part of the Extra Pack 2 DLC, It is one of Jiren's Super Skills. It can be randomly obtained in New Parallel Quest 122: "The Final Battle Before the Final Battle?!".

- This technique is similar to real-life meditation techniques found in Eastern spiritualism and religions. Users of the technique often take the form of a floating lotus position, a cross-legged sitting Yoga meditation pose from ancient India and widely used for meditation in Hindu, Tantra, Jain, and Buddhist traditions, furthering the connection.
