Maron is air-headed, ditsy, and at times, downright stupid. In fact, in "Call for Restoration", Korin has trouble trying to read her mind to know her moves during a card game, explaining to Yajirobe: "I've seen party balloons with more on their mind." While technically kind in her own right, as she is shown trying to help Gohan repeatedly, Maron is characterized as a bit shallow, as she is shown using her good looks to achieve what she wants. Her shallow nature makes it seem like she has no clue when it comes to social graces, as when she refers to Chi-Chi and Bulma as "old ladies"/"middle aged ladies" while seeming completely oblivious as to how rude this sounds. She also apparently has bad memory recall, as she still seems to be unaware of who Goku is despite Krillin telling her at least 11 times by the time he mentioned her when explaining who Chi-Chi is. She also has a habit of flirting with other guys while she was dating Krillin, as seen when she makes a flirty comment about Yamcha twice (although in Maron's defense, it's implied she did the first instance because she thought she and Krillin weren't actually dating due to his shy denials when asked) and when she kisses Gohan; although she does show a firm care for Krillin. Despite these characteristics, Master Roshi takes a firm liking toward Maron, for "obvious" reasons: her well-defined curved figure and her scanty clothing (along with her blissful ignorance to his perversion for the most part). Although largely ignorant of Master Roshi's perverted nature, she did once squeal in shock and considered Roshi "worse" than "the old lady" (referring to Chi-Chi) after the latter briefly groped her. Shallow with a short attention span, once Krillin stated that he was not worthy to be her boyfriend, Maron did not hesitate in accepting another man's offer for a ride without so much as looking back at her former boyfriend, and while she did later return stating she only loves Krillin, she eventually left with some other boyfriends once she got tired of waiting, and never came back.

*Car - Maron rode in Krillin's fancy red car when she was first introduced to Gohan during the Garlic Jr. Saga.
As a civilian, she does not have much fighting abilities. However, she was shown to at least have above average human strength, as she lifted up and repeatedly whacked a Black Water Mist-infected Master Roshi with a lawn chair with ease. Despite, or perhaps because of, her lack of intelligence, she was also shown to be extremely skilled at poker, as she easily defeated both Korin and Yajirobe, to the extent that the latter even was reduced to his underwear. Korin implied a large part of the reason she won against them, or at least Korin, was because her low intelligence made her impossible to gauge her next move via mind-reading.

**Aside from the ties to chestnut, the name itself also has several other pun origins as well, such as having a similar appearance to the word "moron" (similar to her more oblivious outlook) as well as an alternate spelling, Mallon, resembling the word "melon" which can mean either the fruit or a slang term for breasts (specifically large breasts), owing to her well-endowed chest.
*Maron bears a nigh-identical resemblance to Bulma, with blue hair of the same stringy style, a similar face, and a buxom figure. However, the big difference is that Bulma is older, more mature and is a tech genius, whereas Maron is as ditzy as they come, and is very childish. Also another noticeable physical difference is that Maron's hair is a more lighter blue color than Bulma's with grey eyes unlike Bulma's bright blue eyes

"I was invited, but I don't think you were."
— Maron talking to Chi-Chi in "Black Fog of Terror"

Maron (マロン Maron) is Krillin's ex-girlfriend.

Appearance

Maron is a slender young woman of curvaceous frame with long blue hair and blue eyes and large breasts. She is commonly seen wearing a bright red dress with low-cut straps, white cuff socks, and white gym shoes, occasionally wearing a green military jacket over it. She also has pink nail polish. She also wears a yellow bathing suit for swimming, which is very small. During the latter portion of her stay at Korin's Tower, she was also seen wearing a short-skirted cheongsam.

Personality

Maron is air-headed, ditsy, and at times, downright stupid. In fact, Korin has trouble trying to read her mind to know her moves during a card game, explaining to Yajirobe: "I've seen party balloons with more on their mind."[1]

While technically kind in her own right, as she is shown trying to help Gohan repeatedly, Maron is characterized as a bit shallow, as she is shown using her good looks to achieve what she wants. Her shallow nature makes it seem like she has no clue when it comes to social graces, as when she refers to Chi-Chi and Bulma as "old ladies"/"middle aged ladies" while seeming completely oblivious as to how rude this sounds. How oblivious she was depended on the language version. In the Japanese version, it's made clear she genuinely didn't understand how rude it sounded, while the English dub had her delivering her comments to Chi-Chi in particular in a more mean-spirited manner.

She also apparently has bad memory recall, as she still seems to be unaware of who Goku is despite Krillin telling her at least 11 times by the time he mentioned him when explaining who Chi-Chi is. She also has a habit of flirting with other guys while she was dating Krillin, as seen when she makes a flirty comment about Yamcha twice (although in Maron's defense, it's implied she did the first instance because she thought she and Krillin weren't actually dating due to his shy denials when asked) and when she kisses Gohan, although she does show a firm care for Krillin.

She also has a short attention span and memory, as once Krillin stated that he was not worthy to be her boyfriend, Maron did not hesitate in accepting another man's offer for a ride without so much as looking back at her former boyfriend, and while she did later return, stating she only loves Krillin after having remembered him, she eventually left with some other boyfriends that she had also forgotten about once she got tired of waiting, and never came back.

Maron2

Maron on Korin Tower

Maron is first revealed as the girlfriend of Krillin. Later at Kame House, she insults Chi-Chi by calling her a “jealous old lady” when she arrived at Kame House demanding where Gohan is at. While ocean diving with Krillin, the Black Water Mist infects the population. The reason she and Krillin did not end up being infected by the Black Water Mist is because they were kissing in the ocean just as the Black Water Mist's primary wave had arrived at the Kame House. Then, Maron is attacked by an infected Master Roshi, whom she smashes on the head with a lawn chair, before eventually being cornered by an infected Chi-Chi and Bulma. She is saved by Icarus before the two women could successfully rush at her, joining Krillin and Gohan on their journey after threatening to dump Krillin if he rejects her going.

Before going on The Lookout to battle Garlic Jr. and the Spice Boys, Krillin leaves Maron at Korin Tower for her safety. There, she meets Korin and Yajirobe. She notably convinces them to cook for her, and plays poker with them.

After Garlic Jr. is defeated, Krillin breaks up with Maron, believing that she is too good for him. However, she reveals that she would have agreed to marry him if he had asked, but by the time Krillin has already reconsidered his decision, she is picked up by a buff man in a sports car, who drives her giddy with delight solely for offering her ice cream and drives off with him.

Maron at Kame House while Krillin is confronting the Androids

Maron re-appears looking for Krillin who is off battling the Androids and she states that he was the only boyfriend she ever loved. During her stay, she learns from Master Roshi the events of the Red Ribbon Army war, Goku's involvement, as well as Goku fighting against Dr. Gero's androids due to the latter wanting revenge against Goku for his role in the Red Ribbon Army's collapse.

However, when she asks who will protect her from all the monsters, Roshi and Oolong simply laugh at her (in the Japanese version, she instead admits she doesn't even understand Roshi's lecture on what the Red Ribbon Army entailed regarding Krillin, with Roshi and Oolong instead expressing shock that she'd be that dense). While continuing to wait for Krillin to return, she gets bored and leaves with a group of other admirers where she is not seen or heard again for the remainder of the series.[2]

Equipment

  • Car - Maron rode in Krillin's fancy red car when she was first introduced to Gohan during the Garlic Jr. Saga.
  • Cat Bell - A bell owned by Korin which can be used to be granted an audience with the God of Earth. Among the items won by Maron while playing poker with Korin and Yajirobe.
  • Sailboat - Her boyfriends' Mack and Tommie use these to reach Roshi's island with Maron leaving with them.

Video Game Appearances

In The Legacy of Goku II, Maron can be seen hanging around Kame House looking for Krillin. If scanned with the scouter, her database entry comically displays "Scouter analysis cannot detect any brain waves. Perhaps the scouter is malfunctioning?".

  • In the episodes "Battle in Kami's Lookout" and "Fight With Piccolo", Funimation credits Maron's voice actress Leah Clark as "Maron Clark."
  • Although she doesn't appear in Dragon Ball Super, Maron is referenced in "episode 94". In said episode, during their reunion, Android 18, now Krillin's wife, threatens to kill Android 17 after he says Marron's name wrong by saying "Maron". The exchange also implies that 18 was at least aware of her existence and prior relationship with Krillin.
  • In the episode "Unwelcome Discovery", a woman similar to Maron appeared in Future Trunks' flashback where she huddled in fear with a little girl (presumably the woman's daughter). However, a notable difference between Maron and the woman was that the latter had brown eyes, while Maron had gray eyes.
    • A little girl with similar features to Maron and Bulma was seen in the beginning of "Black Fog of Terror", where she is among the first to be infected.
    • Another woman from West City who appears one episode before Maron's debut greatly resembles her only with primary blue hair. This person freaks out upon catching sight of Porunga, believing him to be a monster.
  • One of the recurring gags with this character is the one that sees her engaged in quarrels with Chi-Chi and to a lesser extent Bulma, due to the fact that Maron calls her "old lady", and also called both of them "middle-aged ladies". It is curious to note that Chi-Chi is actually a year younger than Krillin, Maron's boyfriend.
  • In Dragon Ball Z: Shin Budokai, when 18 mentions her intention of checking up on her daughter, her name is mistranslated as "Maron" instead of "Marron".
  • Maron was ultimately foreshadowed in the Japanese version of "Transformed at Last", where Krillin states he intended to land himself a girlfriend once he gets back to Earth (the English dub instead replaced it with a feeling of homesickness).
  • Master Roshi when meeting Maron in the Japanese version offered to motorboat Maron's breasts (the English dub tones this down to have Roshi offer a kiss). Ironically, Roshi would later end up doing exactly that to Krillin's actual wife, Android 18, in anime filler.
