Krillin (クリリン Kuririn) is a supporting protagonist in the Dragon Ball franchise.

Krillin had a brief rivalry with Goku when they first met and trained under Master Roshi, but they quickly became lifelong best friends.[9] One of the most powerful and talented martial artists on Earth, Krillin is courageous, faithful, and good-natured. He is a prominent Z Fighter, despite usually being overpowered by the major enemies. His short stature and baldness (with the exception of when he grows out his hair in the Majin Buu Saga onwards) aid him in his ability to provide comic relief during tense moments. During the latter half of Dragon Ball Z, he largely retires from fighting, opting to settle down with his family instead, becoming the husband of Android 18 and the father of Marron. However, he returns to his lifestyle as a warrior later on in Dragon Ball Super.

Krillin in Dragon Ball

Krillin does not have a visible nose, however, he seems to be able to smell until someone mentions it (like Goku during the 21st World Martial Arts Tournament): he smells the diamond Bulma took from the Pirate Cave, and he smells the enticing trap meal in the Mirror spaceship. In the Dragon Ball: Bouken Special, when asked why Krillin does not have a nose, Akira Toriyama responded "Krillin has a physical idiosyncrasy that allows him to breathe through his skin." Earlier on in the series, and throughout the entire manga, Krillin had white eyes. However, later on, they seem to have disappeared completely, making the inside of his eyes the same color as his skin. Krillin is not naturally bald. Due to his original monastic training, he merely shaves his head. During his training with Goku under Master Roshi, Krillin comments that "All who aspire to master the martial arts shave their heads in order to unfetter their ki" and seemed surprised to find out Master Roshi was naturally bald. After settling down with his new family, his hair grows out, although his original smooth crowned look is the most familiar to fans. The six dots on his forehead are scars from moxibustion burns,[10] similar to the pattern that appear on the forehead of a Shaolin monk.

His first appearance of Dragon Ball and in Fortuneteller Baba saga, he wears a yellow short sleeved Chinese garb with the sleeves are folded to make it sleeveless adorned with purple straps in each sides, orange Chinese pants with a purple belt on his waist, white shins and an ochre Chinese toe shoes. During the 21st and 23rd Martial Arts Tournament, Krillin wears a red turtle gi like Goku's and became his signature outfit in Dragon Ball Z through both Vegeta Saga and in the Namek Saga.

In the Androids Saga and throughout the Cell Saga, Krillin wears an outfit identical to Goku's first outfit in both Vegeta Saga and throughout the Frieza Saga as the tie of his boots are light blue.

In the Buu Saga, Krillin has his black hair grows out and wears various casual outfits. When he was married with Android 18, he wears an orange short sleeved loose button shirt, white shorts and red sandals. In the 25th World Martial Arts Tournament, he first appears wearing an orange vest with a white short sleeve undershirt, green denim shorts with a brown belt on his waist, white socks and brown shoes. In the movie, Bio-Broly, his vest appears to be black. During the tournament and onwards, he wears a red short sleeve shirt, khaki jogging pants with a white tie at the center and black sneakers.

Krillin in Resurrection ‘F’

By the time of Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection ‘F’, Krillin has taken up the job of a police officer, he wears a uniform with a yellow polo shirt and purple formal shorts, a badge, and a helmet. When getting prepared to battle Frieza, Krillin asks Android 18 to shave his head for "old times sake". When he is off-duty, Krillin wears a red short sleeved shirt with a sign "Taco" at the center, jeans and blue sneakers. In preparation for the Tournament of Power, Krillin once again wears his orange turtle school gi, minus the weighted clothing he previously wore during the Android Saga through the Cell Games Saga, although his gi has become visibly faded with time, leaving it a more pale orange compared to Goku and Gohan's versions of the outfit.

In the end of Dragon Ball Z, Krillin wears a business attire like his wife, Android 18 and has a fedora hat on his head.

In the events of Dragon Ball GT, Krillin's hair is now gray and gains a mustache. He retains wearing the business attire at the end of Dragon Ball Z; a teal formal vest with a white long sleeved button shirt with the sleeves are folded into cuffs and a light purple long neck tie on the collar, brown pants and black shoes.

— Krillin when Roshi's training starts in "Milk Delivery"

KrillinandGoku

Goku and Krillin's display of friendship

Originally a jealous and selfish person, Krillin did not respect rules when confronted with Roshi's training. After a short arch-rivalry between the two (years later, Krillin even admits that he hated Goku at first), he becomes Goku's best friend and his selfish and jealous personality becomes more kind-hearted and generous (although he still has slight selfish and jealous traits after his reform). Krillin is often used as comic relief or cannon fodder by the author. As the most prominent full-blooded human character in the Dragon Ball series, Krillin also represents a sense of normalcy to Goku and Gohan, as well as often being the most identifiable. Often when things in the Dragon World turn bizarre, it is left to Krillin to shake his head in disbelief and crack a joke.

Despite his reputation as being a weakling compared to his Saiyan comrades, he is considered to be one of the stronger pure-blooded humans in the Dragon Ball series, being thousands of times stronger than the average person, in fact he is well into the superhuman league (although this is largely due to the fact that he was afforded much greater opportunities to increase his strength, such as gaining the ability to use ki, training under the Guardian of the Earth, and having his potential unlocked by Grand Elder Guru, things that no other human, such as Mr. Satan, ever had). Although he is not as strong as Goku or Gohan, his determination in helping his friends is a key asset. Furthermore, Krillin's ingenuity and talent for ki-manipulation is far superior than that of most warriors, even those stronger than himself, and he has an ability to sense hidden powers. Krillin had his dormant ki awakened by the Namek Elder, Guru, during the events of the Namek Saga (although it is possible that not all of his power was freed, due to the fact that Gohan still had more hidden power and that they both grew to be much stronger), and this helped keep him among the same level as his more naturally powerful friends, at least for a little while. Krillin has trained hard most of his life, becoming extremely powerful and proving it in combat with many foes. Unfortunately, he is quickly outclassed by many of the other characters in the series, such as Piccolo and the Saiyans; though among all the full-blooded humans he faces in combat he is one of the strongest. On one occasion, during the course of the 25th World Martial Arts Tournament, Yamcha says to Krillin's daughter that Krillin is "the strongest human being in the world." Some fans feel that the mangaka, Akira Toriyama, uses Yamcha to state a fact on this scene, as he also says that Krillin is the "strongest Earthling male" in an interview.[11] As it is spoken in the context of Krillin being married to 18, it implies that Krillin is the strongest Earthling at least by that point in the series (this claim gets support in the video game Dragon Ball Z: Supersonic Warriors in which the final part of Krillin's story, which focus on the Majin Buu Saga, is titled as "The Strongest Earthling"). Many fans immediately will connect Krillin with his signature move, Destructo Disc, a spinning razor-sharp disk of energy that has the power to cut through just about anything. Despite its immense power, it is extremely unwieldy and hard to control.

Krillin's family

At any rate, Krillin is brave and resourceful, and the audience identifies him as a good-natured underdog. Along with Yamcha, Krillin has also, arguably, adjusted to a relatively normal life better than many of his friends by seeking women in his life. He is among the more "normal" human of his friends, as he can be seen wearing normal clothes on days where he's not fighting, other than his typical martial arts dōgi, as well as engaging in other normal every-day activities such as watching TV, going to the beach, etc. In his role as Goku's best friend, Krillin was among the only humans to remain a main character for the majority of the series, even as Master Roshi, Yamcha, Tien Shinhan, Chiaotzu, Yajirobe, Chi-Chi and others faded into the background. Overall, Krillin is a highly valued character in the Dragon Ball series: powerful, loyal, and brave. He is second only to Goku in the most appearances in the manga. In some more recent movies however, Krillin has been since demoted to a comic relief character. This is most prominent in the movie Dragon Ball Z: Super Android 13!, when he was beaten up by Chi-Chi, clonked his head twice, had hot coffee spilled on his head, had his face fried by a stray energy bolt, had a large pile of snow dumped on him, had Vegeta sent flying into him, slipped and skidded past the main villain when he was about to attack him, and was humiliated in the hospital (he even remarks during the Vegeta incident that "Why do these things always happen to me?").

"B-Bulma... I was just thinking... A-All of us here used to be enemies... I hated Goku in the beginning too... ...But when there was a common enemy we started to team up because we HAD to and before we knew it, we became friends..."
— Krillin in "The Risky Decision"

Consistent with the theme of redemption in the series, he allows Vegeta to live rather than killing him, albeit reluctantly at the insistence of Goku (as he promised Krillin he would defeat Vegeta and Krillin put his faith in Goku's strength), during the Vegeta Saga, a decision that later proves righteous as Vegeta goes on to become one of the most beneficial warriors of the Z Fighters. It should be noted that during the Trunks Saga, Krillin points out to Bulma that most of the Z Fighters used to be enemies and admits that he himself once hated Goku but once their was a common enemy they started working together and eventually became friends while trying to persuade her that it was better to let the Z Fighters deal with the Androids when they appeared as he noted that without a common enemy, Vegeta might go return to his evil ways which was a possibility given the Saiyan Prince's rivalry with Goku. Also he spares Android 18's life when presented with the chance to activate her self-destruct sequence because he had a huge crush on her (though this put the whole planet at risk because she was later absorbed by Cell, which helped him complete his evolution). In a bit of ironic fortune, he later marries the beautiful android and later has a daughter named Marron with her. He also convinced Vegeta and Future Trunks to allow Android 16 be repaired and join them in combatting Cell during the Cell Games despite the Android's mission to destroy Goku, which proved fortunate as Android 16 was instrumental in convincing Gohan to let go of his anger and defeat Cell.

Like his mentor Master Roshi, Krillin is known to be perverted even bribing Master Roshi with a Dirty magazine when he was first introduced at the age of 12. He was also already considered "impure" of heart due to his perverted tendencies and was unable to ride the Flying Nimbus without clinging to Goku. He also came up with an elaborate and unnecessarily perverted plan during the Fortuneteller Baba Saga to expose Bulma's breasts to Master Roshi in order to have Master Roshi produce a massive nosebleed to cover See-Through the Invisible Man in order to aid Yamcha in defeating him. However he is shown to have become less perverted as an adult and is more interested in genuine romance as he notes his desire to get married several times in Dragon Ball Z. In the anime filler he even contemplates marrying Maron though ultimately decides to break up with her only to reconsider when she reveals she would have said yes, but she ran off with some guy who promised her ice cream. In Super Android 13!, he waits in line for a beauty pageant with Roshi, Oolong, and Future Trunks though he admonishes Oolong and Roshi as setting a bad example for a young man like Trunks, though Master Roshi points out Krillin might be able to find himself a wife which causes him to get excited by the idea. Before meeting Android 18, Krillin began to wonder if he would ever find love, at one point in Super Android 13! even lamenting he would probably die alone. He is also taken with Zangya's beauty when he mistakes her for the opponent he is supposed to fight in Bojack Unbound. While Krillin loves his wife, he has been shown to retain some of his perversion as while saving Nain in Bio-Broly she hugs onto him tightly causing him to blush, though this ends up causing his wife to angrily push both of them. Additionally in Xenoverse 2, he notes that the Launch Costume is a pretty daring look and that while he never really looked at her clothes back in his youth, they do show a lot of skin and wishes he had watched more closely when he had the chance, before nervously stating he is totally committed to Android 18. In Dragon Ball FighterZ, he agrees with Yamcha's opinion that Android 21 is cute, though this causes Yamcha to think that Krillin has a thing for female Androids which Krillin denies, though unfortunately their conversation is overheard by Android 18 who glares at them both, terrifying them to the point they are unable to turn around.

However, Krillin can be just as jealous as his wife can be as he tells the Future Warrior in Xenoverse 2 not to try anything funny with his wife, when they are training under her, which he says regardless of their selected gender or race. He is also fiercely protective of her and their daughter as he wanted her to stay to take care of Marron while he confronted Frieza after his resurrection and willingly confronts villains stronger than himself to protect her such as Cell, Super Buu, and Bio-Broly.

KrillinOrinTempleBullied

Krillin being beaten up by bullies of Orin Temple

Originally a monk of the Orin Temple, after training there for eight years,[12] Krillin trained at the Orin Temple since he was four.[12] He was the weakest student and was frequently bullied. When he was 13, he was getting tired of the bullying and he began to travel to Master Roshi's island when he was seeking training to surpass the people at the temple to defeat his bullies and to attract girls.[13] Krillin came to Master Roshi and became a student of the Turtle School in his first appearance in the series.

Krillin first appears on screen at the beginning of the Tournament Saga. He bribes Master Roshi with dirty magazines in order to be accepted as his student. Krillin's initial desire for learning martial arts under Master Roshi was to become more popular with girls.

At first, he detests Goku, whom Krillin finds unintelligent and childish. It is to Krillin's increased annoyance that he discovers that Goku is a more powerful fighter than him in every way. The only time Krillin is ever able to get the better of Goku is through trickery and deceit. Even then, his reward (dinner that evening) is unenviable when he eats fish cooked by Launch that gives him and Master Roshi food poisoning. Goku, in his characteristic naïveté, remains almost totally unaware of Krillin's one-sided rivalry with him.

KrillinWorking

As their grueling training progresses Goku and Krillin bond and, by the time of the 21st World Martial Arts Tournament, become inseparable friends; this aspect of their relationship never diminishes. Goku is always there to offer the insecure Krillin confidence and support, as well as fighting tips, and Krillin is often on hand to offer a pragmatic perspective to the often overly innocent and idealistic Goku, as well as clue him in on basic social knowledge that Goku missed out on growing up.

Krillin gives Bacterian a full-power kick to the jaw

In his and Goku's first World Martial Arts Tournament, Krillin fares very well, even defeating bullies from his old training school by kicking one of them straight through a wall. He easily advances as one of the eight warriors going onto the main event. He makes it past the quarter-finals, defeating the disgusting Bacterian, as without a nose, Bacterian's stink has no effect on him: at first, Krillin is overwhelmed by the odor of Bacterian. However, Goku reminds Krillin that he does not have a nose. After realizing this, he is easily able to overcome his opponent.[14] Unfortunately however, Krillin is defeated in the semi-finals, losing to Jackie Chun, who is Master Roshi in disguise.

After the tournament, he trains under Master Roshi again, although he takes a break to aid Goku in his search for the Dragon Balls and fight against the Red Ribbon Army. Krillin, Goku and Bulma enter a cave to find some pirate treasure, but are followed by General Blue, who confronts Krillin and defeats him in battle. During the battle, Krillin manages to kick Blue in the face, giving Blue a nose bleed, which just makes Blue much more intent on killing Krillin. Krillin is almost killed when Blue uses his telekinesis to freeze Krillin, however Goku manages to save him, and fights Blue. When Goku defeats Blue, the cave begins to collapse, but Krillin, Bulma, and Goku escape in a submarine, though General Blue manages to survive as well. Later on, Krillin, Bulma, and Goku soon return to Kame House with the ruby Bulma managed to retrieve from the Pirate Cave. However, the ruby is stolen by Launch, and General Blue, who had found Kame House, uses his telekinesis to tie up Krillin and his friends and steal the Dragon Balls while setting a bomb to explode soon. Luckily, Launch returns in her good state and unties Goku, who throws the bomb away and chases after General Blue.

Krillin also assisted Bulma, Yamcha and other residents of Kame house to help and save Goku who was on his way to fight the red ribbon army's Headquarters. But they arrived late and were surprised at Goku defeating the entire army single-handedly in a head on battle.

Krillin eventually loses the battle by getting the blood sucked out of his head, causing him to lose consciousness and get kicked out of the area. However, Krillin cunningly comes up with the strategy that allows them to later defeat See-Through the Invisible Man. The side of Krillin that uses his wits, rather than his strength, to his advantage is seen many times in both series, particularly as he becomes comparatively less powerful.

Krillin is then killed by getting his neck snapped by a kick from Tambourine, a "demon" who was out on his duty to kill all of the greatest martial artists so that the great demon King Piccolo could go unchallenged and rule the world with no opposition. Krillin's death played a large role in Goku's determination to stop the evil plans of King Piccolo, with Goku wishing to avenge his best friend and Master Roshi's death. Following King Piccolo's defeat, Krillin and King Piccolo's many other victims are later revived thanks to the Dragon Balls.

After three years, when he meets Goku again at the World Martial Arts Tournament, Krillin hugs his best friend, saying he missed him. Eventually, Krillin fights Piccolo, the reincarnation/son of King Piccolo. Krillin lands some decent hits and manages to surprise Piccolo on several occasions, but quickly realizes Piccolo is far superior to him. During the match, Krillin reveals he can use the hovering space technique.[15] When Krillin falls for Piccolo's Afterimage Technique, which Piccolo used to land a free hit on Krillin, it causes him to eventually give up. Krillin watches Goku and Piccolo spar out. When all hope for Goku seems lost when most of his limbs are broken, Krillin, along with Tien and the others, attempt to assist Goku, but are suddenly caught off guard by Piccolo, now knowing they cannot help Goku, as Piccolo would defeat them easily. When Piccolo is defeated, Krillin greatly criticizes Goku's choice of giving Piccolo a Senzu Bean to heal his wounds, and watches Goku and Chi-Chi head off from the World Tournament area on the Flying Nimbus.

Five years have passed since Goku defeated Piccolo at the 23rd World Martial Arts Tournament, he, Goku and Bulma attend a reunion at Master Roshi's island, where Goku introduces them to his son, Gohan. While there, Krillin is as surprised as the others by the arrival of Goku's brother, Raditz, who reveals Goku's origins as a Saiyan and slaps Krillin into Kame House, taking Gohan with him. Krillin and Master Roshi offer to assist Goku in defeating Raditz, but instead, Piccolo makes a pact with Goku to team up against Raditz and then go their separate ways after. After Piccolo and Goku defeat Raditz, Krillin arrives to the scene and goes to Goku's side while he is dying and watches his body disappear. Goku's death causes great woe in Krillin, who yells out in sadness over his best friend's death. He also witnesses Piccolo taking Goku's son Gohan with him over to Break Wasteland to train, which Krillin could do nothing about, as Piccolo was too strong for him. When Roshi, Krillin, and Bulma return to Kame House, Krillin and Roshi discuss the true threat they face from the new Saiyans invading in a year. Roshi asks for Krillin to inform Chi-Chi of Goku's death and Gohan's kidnapping. Although he visits her, his fears of upsetting and angering Chi-Chi overcome him and he never actually reveals her what happened.

Soon, Yajirobe visits Kame House on a demand from Korin to inform Krillin that Kami, the guardian of the Earth, has requested his arrival so they can train together for the one year they have left before the Saiyans Vegeta and Nappa arrive. At first, Krillin incorrectly speaks Yajirobe's name, but is soon corrected. After gathering his companions, Krillin, along with Tien, Chiaotzu, Yamcha, and Yajirobe train with Kami and Mr. Popo. They do this in order to raise their power levels enough to be able to hold their own against the Saiyans. Like the others, Krillin's power grows exponentially during this year, until he is far more powerful than Raditz ever was. When the Saiyans arrive, Krillin, Tien, Chiaotzu and Yamcha join Piccolo and Gohan to hold Vegeta and Nappa off until Goku's arrival.

When Yamcha is quickly killed by a kamikaze Saibaman, Krillin is enraged at his friend's death and unleashes his Scattering Bullet attack that obliterates all but one. Piccolo, Vegeta, and Nappa are all impressed with the sheer power of his attack, but it is not fast enough to work on the Saiyans. The battle continues, with Chiaotzu and Tien falling. Piccolo, Krillin, and Gohan come up with a plan to grab Nappa's tail to weaken him, then while he is off guard, they blast him. However, the plan failed as Nappa had already trained his tail from attacks. Eventually Piccolo dies, taking Kami and the Dragon Balls with him, rendering Krillin and Gohan the only ones left to fight.

On the way back home Gohan decides they can not let Goku face this danger alone. They go to Gizard Wasteland (Krillin coming just so Gohan does not get hurt) and are able to help Goku with the Spirit Bomb he creates to defeat Vegeta; Krillin throws the ball, missing Vegeta, but Gohan bounces it back and it hits the Saiyan Prince, damaging him.

Goku tells Krillin not to and he explains that it is not right as Vegeta is now defenseless and may turn over a new leaf as a result of being spared, and also so that he may be able to fight him once again, impressed by Vegeta's strength. Krillin is understandably incredulous over Goku's compassion for the man who almost destroyed the planet and scoffs at the idea that Vegeta is capable of turning over a new leaf, but he ultimately, and reluctantly, decides to trust Goku's judgment and let Vegeta go.

With Piccolo, and thus Kami, dead, the Dragon Balls have become inactive and thus the Namek Saga begins, with everyone mourning the seemingly permanent deaths of Piccolo, Kami, Yamcha, Tien, and Chiaotzu. Fortunately, Krillin comes up with an idea. If the Dragon Balls were created by Namekians, then they could travel to Piccolo's home world, planet Namek, to use the Namekian Dragon Balls to wish Kami, and thus, Piccolo back to life. While Krillin recovers from his injuries in Wukong Hospital Mr. Popo shows Kami's old spaceship and its incredible speed to Bulma. Afterwards, Bulma, Krillin, and Gohan head off in the spaceship towards Planet Namek, to start their mission. After a few detours on their way there, the trio arrive and discover that this peaceful planet is under siege by the galactic overlord, Frieza, the employer of the Saiyans and destroyer of Planet Vegeta (Goku and Vegeta's home world). To make matters worse, Vegeta is on the planet as well. Both are also after the Dragon Balls for immortality, and Krillin and Gohan discover that there is much more at stake than the lives of their departed friends. After watching Frieza's soldiers butcher several Namekians, Gohan and Krillin rescue a young Namekian named Dende from Frieza's henchman Dodoria and have to outrun Dodoria himself, eventually escaping by using the Solar Flare. Afterwards, Dende takes the two warriors to Grand Elder Guru, guardian of Namek, who is able to release the hidden ki potential inside them, causing their power levels to raise, once again, exponentially.

Newly powered-up, a complex three-sided game of "Capture the Dragon Balls" ensues between Krillin and Gohan, Frieza, and Vegeta.

Because of this intervention, Recoome's attack backfires, knocking out all but six of his teeth. Angered, Recoome retaliates by kicking Krillin in the back of the neck, more specifically the base of the spine, which puts him out of commission until he is healed by a Senzu Bean when Goku finally arrives on Namek.

After learning of the trouble on Namek, Goku (who had been recovering in the hospital) is healed quickly by a Senzu Bean from Yajirobe and arrives to help. He makes quick work of the Ginyu Force, a group of mercenaries under Frieza's employ, but is badly injured and taken by Vegeta to be recovered in a healing tank.

Krillin leaves to get the password from Guru, but encounters Dende, who informs him the password is "Porunga". They return and, with Vegeta asleep, decide to just make their own wish now. In the Namekian language, Dende wishes for Piccolo to be returned to life and brought to Namek. This causes Kami to return to life on Earth as well, and Master Roshi begins steps to gather the newly restored Earth Dragon Balls.

Vegeta awakes a short time later and is enraged that his immortality has been taken from him, but Krillin and Gohan are saved by the arrival of Frieza, who demands their immediate attention. Frieza transforms in his second, more powerful form, and attempts to attack Dende, who is pushed out of the way by Krillin, who inturn, is quickly skewered on Frieza's horn and left for dead. He then turns his attention onto Gohan and starts badly thrashing him. With Frieza distracted, Dende uses his healing abilities to save Krillin.

Here, the Destructo Disc makes its most memorable appearance when the supposedly dead Krillin appears out of nowhere to deliver the attacks on Frieza, which cuts off the bottom part of his tail, the distraction saving Gohan from certain death. Enraged at his lost tail, Frieza charges after Krillin, catching up to him easily. Krillin knew he needed to keep Frieza distracted long enough for Dende to save Gohan. He tricked and evaded Frieza for quite some time, eventually using a Solar Flare, to temporarily blind him. This is another example of Krillin's tendency to outwit opponents that he can not outfight.

Piccolo shows up, having fused with the warrior Nail, and joins Krillin, Gohan, and Vegeta in their fight. For a moment, it looks like the Z Warriors have the upper hand, before Frieza transforms again, leaving them in the dust. While Frieza is distracted, Vegeta urges Krillin to try to kill him, which would grant Vegeta Saiyan Power to raises his power. Krillin is reluctant to attack Vegeta, but sees no other way and so he fires a beam through his stomach. He then asks Dende to heal Vegeta, but Dende refuses, which worries Krillin, who knows that Vegeta may very well die. Eventually, Dende is convinced by Piccolo and Vegeta is healed, much more powerful than before.

Krillin just before his tragic death

Frieza finally gets wind of Dende's healing ability, and so the tyrant kills him. Goku arrives back on the scene, and is enraged after witnessing Vegeta's horrible murder at the hands of Frieza. Goku and Frieza then do battle, and although Goku puts up the best fight that Frieza has ever seen, he is still unable to defeat him. Enraged at how much of a challenge Goku has proven to be, Frieza, after surviving the Large Spirit Bomb, lashes out at Goku's friends, badly injuring Piccolo and viciously murders Krillin by blowing him to pieces with kiai.

The death of his best friend completely infuriates Goku, as he believes that Krillin can never be returned to life, as Shenron cannot grant the same wish twice. When Frieza declares that he will kill Gohan next, Goku's anger explodes and he transforms into a Super Saiyan for the first time, granting him the power to defeat Frieza. In a desperate ploy Frieza attempts to destroy the planet, knowing that while he can survive in the vacuum of space, Goku cannot. Although Goku defeats Frieza, and although the rest make it off the planet, Goku appears to be killed with the planet's destruction.

With planet Namek destroyed, they first wish to transport Krillin's soul to the Check-In Station in Other World, and then they wish him alive again. Krillin is returned to life, as are Yamcha, Tien, and Chiaotzu as well as anyone killed by Frieza, which includes Vegeta and Dende. Everyone is delighted to hear that Goku is still alive, but are shocked when he refuses to come home yet, saying he needs to do more training in space. Though he misses his best friend, Krillin settles back into life on Earth with his friends, thankful for another chance at life.

Sometime after Garlic Jr.'s defeat, Krillin attempts to perfect his Kamehameha technique to get his mind off the breakup with Maron, but he realized that his Kamehameha techniques still were not good enough when he ended up causing a tsunami instead of splitting the waves. He was not told off for it by Master Roshi because he was asleep during that time and thus missed it. He later sensed that Frieza and his father King Cold were approaching Earth, and after contacting Gohan, he left for a specific spot at Northern Wastelands, close to where Frieza would arrive on Earth. After Frieza and King Cold's defeat, Krillin learned of the threat of the Androids from the boy who defeated them via Piccolo. It was later revealed to him that the boy came from the future and was named Trunks.

Goku, who came back from Planet Yardrat, showed him and the other Z Fighters the Instant Transmission technique, taking Roshi's sunglasses and giving them to Krillin.

Krillin is ambushed and attacked by Android 20

Krillin, along with the other Z Fighters, trained hard after Future Trunks regaled them with a grim tale of events that would soon unfold. When the day of reckoning did arrive, Krillin was right on the scene with his friends, ready to defend the Earth. When Goku battled Android 19, Krillin watched in horror when the heart virus began to take its affect on the Super Saiyan. Though Krillin attempts to aid his friend with a Senzu Bean, his efforts are futile. After Vegeta arrives and kills Android 19, Android 20, really the robotic body of Dr. Gero, attempts to escape, knowing that both Piccolo and Vegeta could easily kill him. The Z Fighters give chase, and Krillin is the first to find him near his laboratory.

A terrified Krillin is kissed by Android 18

Krillin quickly realizes he is outgunned, and Dr. Gero attacks him without any restraint. Shortly after, Krillin watches Dr. Gero enter his lab and releases his ki to signal the other Z Fighters. Piccolo and Tien are first on the scene, proud of Krillin for finding it. Just as they begin their assault, Krillin informs them that Dr. Gero beat him to the lab. This angers Piccolo. Once inside, Dr. Gero releases Android 17 and Android 18. They then kill the doctor and release another of his creations, Android 16. While the Z Fighters battle with the powerful machines, Krillin stands back in horror, knowing that he would be no match for them. The androids defeat the Z Fighters with relative ease, and head off to kill Goku. Krillin attempts to talk them out of it, but fails. However, Android 18 walks up, wishes him good luck, and kisses him on the cheek.

Krillin attacks Imperfect Cell to save a woman and her young brother, Tommy

A short time later, Krillin and Future Trunks destroy Dr. Gero's laboratory along with the early stage of the evil bio-android Cell. Meanwhile, after merging with Kami, Piccolo gave chase to a fleeing Cell, knowing that he must stop the creature from absorbing 17 and 18. Tien and Krillin join the hunt, and once again, Krillin is the first to find the enemy. In filler, he saves a woman and her younger brother from Cell, just as the monster was about to absorb them. He gives them enough time to get onto an airplane, and uses Solar Flare on Cell to escape with them, but Cell catches up. Krillin then proceeds to attempt and fight Cell only to be smashed through the airplane. Just before Cell nearly kills Krillin, Piccolo and Tien then arrive, and Cell flees once again.

KrillinVsCell01

Krillin attacks Perfect Cell to no avail

After Cell is successful in absorbing Android 17 and reaching his Semi-Perfect form, Bulma creates a remote that can shut down Android 18 so that Cell could not absorb her. She instructs Krillin to be the one to do it, but upon arriving at the battle scene, he sees how frightened she is, and he remembers the kiss she gave him. He then throws the controller to the ground and smashes it, revealing that he had fallen for the beautiful android. Then Cell uses the "Solar Flare" technique to blind everyone present and starts absorbing 18. Then Krillin begins attacking Cell head on, attempting to save her, but it was too late, and Cell reaches his "Perfect" form. Out of anger, a heart-broken Krillin foolishly attacks Cell, only to be smashed away in seconds. However, he did manage to sense a large bulk of Cell's power that he kept hidden a split-second before being kicked away by Perfect Cell, causing him to warn Future Trunks about his hiding his overall power upon being fed a Senzu Bean.

Cell then defeats both Vegeta and Trunks, and goes on to announce a tournament he calls, the Cell Games. The Z Warriors then spend the remaining 10 days preparing for the games, as does Krillin. He also spends time with his best friends, Goku and Gohan who decide not to train. During this time, he also overheard Bulma and Dr. Brief discussing their removal of 16's self-destruct device.

KrillinVsCellJr

Krillin battles a Cell Jr.

When the day finally arrives, Goku is the first to battle Cell. After a long and intense battle, Goku forfeits, and tells Gohan that it's his turn to fight. When 16 attempted to sacrifice himself by using his self destruct device on Cell, he attempted to warn him that it had in fact been removed earlier, but it proved too late. In order to unleash Gohan's anger, Cell spawns seven Cell Juniors. They then proceed to attack the Z Fighters, including Krillin. With all this, and Cell's murder of the peaceful #16, Gohan's anger explodes and he transforms into a Super Saiyan 2, and causes Cell to cough up Android 18 and revert to his second form after being kicked in the stomach by Gohan. Krillin immediately tends to her side, much to Vegeta's surprise and objection, (presuming Vegeta was still bitter about his first fight with Android 18), and calling Krillin a fool. Cell later attempts to self-destruct, only to be teleported away by Goku, killing himself in the process. Cell manages to survive and returns to Earth. Krillin, along with Piccolo, Tien, and Yamcha all join forces to help Gohan against the newly empowered Cell. Krillin, like the rest, is brushed off by Cell's energy multiple times. Finally, after Vegeta provides the distraction needed, Cell is put down by Gohan for good in a Kamehameha wave struggle.

She then reveals herself looking very angry towards Krillin, but then replied that it was a very nice thing he did for her, showing that she may have a soft spot for Krillin after all. She leaves, as do the rest of the Z Fighters, off to continue their lives.

Krillin appears at Kame House after hearing on the news that an asteroid is approaching Earth and curses his misfortune for never having a girlfriend. He accompanies Goku in trying to destroy the asteroid with Kamehameha waves, though the "asteroid" was not a asteroid at all, it was the spaceship of Earth's new threat, Lord Slug and his henchmen. Krillin and Goku observed that the entire planet was frozen and cold, with thousands of clouds covering the sun. As they found the source of the disaster, they found Gohan and Piccolo having trouble facing Lord Slug's top two henchmen, Medamatcha and Angila. Though Goku got rid of them with no effort at all, they had trouble facing Lord Slug himself, who used the Dragon Balls to restore his youth. Krillin attacked Lord Slug carelessly, which resulted in him getting slapped away and having to suffer near-freezing temperature while Goku had trouble facing Lord Slug. He was later seen along with Gohan, Piccolo, Yajirobe and Goku after Lord Slug was killed.

Krillin goes with Goku, Gohan, Oolong, and Icarus on a camping trip. However, their trip ended up being cut short by Cooler's Armored Squadron's ambush after sensing their ki, with him being knocked out by Neiz while he tries to warn Gohan about Dore being behind Gohan. He later regains consciousness due to Icarus licking his face. He then led a search party composed of himself, Icarus, and Oolong to search for Goku without being detected by Cooler's minions. Unfortunately, while trying to eliminate the rubble blocking Goku and Gohan's hiding place, he was forced to use a Ki attack, narrowly avoiding Neiz's investigation due to a Pterodactyl flying overhead. He remains with Goku to monitor Goku's condition (as he was earlier wounded by taking Cooler's attack that was intended to kill Gohan) while Gohan and Icarus went to get Senzu Beans, also advising Gohan to fly far above the clouds so the scouters do not detect him. Gohan eventually returns with the Senzu Beans, but Salza botched their plan by blasting the bean container, causing Krillin, in a fury, to attack Salza. He is later defeated by Salza, although not before Goku was fed a spare bean by Gohan that Yajirobe supplied him with earlier, and saw Goku reemerge before passing out. Krillin's defeat was one of the things in Goku's mind that drove him to become a Super Saiyan again to defeat Cooler. Krillin later recovered and regrouped with Goku, after he had defeated Cooler by launching him into the sun, but was later threatened by Salza before he was killed by Piccolo's Special Beam Cannon.

Krillin charges a Cyclopian Guard in The Return of Cooler

Krillin was among the Z Fighters who were dispatched to New Namek to aid the Namekians from a new threat relating to the Big Gete Star, where they saved a Namekian from one of the Cyclopian Guards. However, he became shocked along with everyone else when it became apparent that Cooler was not only alive, but leading the attack on New Namek. Krillin, Gohan, and Piccolo then fought the Cyclopian Guards while Goku fought against Cooler. The Cyclopian Guards show clear superiority to Krillin, though at one point Krillin does manage to take one out by following Piccolo's advice of concentrating his energy in a single spot. Krillin continues to battle the Cyclopian Guards, being swatted around and eventually captured by one via a Bearhug. Along with Gohan, Oolong, Roshi, and Yajirobe, he ends up captured and is brought to the Big Gete Star, although they managed to escape the fate of their brains being chopped up when Goku and Vegeta managed to overload the Big Gete Star's systems.

Krillin is eventually knocked into an ice wall by Super Android 13 throwing Vegeta's unconscious body at him, with him lamenting that he always gets injured in the crossfire. He tries to fight Super Android 13, only to be easily defeated by an energy blast. He later witnesses Goku's attempt as a Super Saiyan at delivering the Spirit Bomb to Super Android 13, and is subsequently hospitalized as a result of his injuries. Krillin Singing

Krillin's dreadful attempt at karaoke

During the Hanabi picnic, he attempts to sing Karaoke ("I just wanna be your puppy."), although he had an abysmal singing voice. Eventually, the Karaoke session was interrupted by the arrival of Paragus. Krillin eventually unwittingly goes along to New Planet Vegeta whiles trying to stop Master Roshi from boarding. Krillin, along with Gohan, join up with Trunks in investigating New Planet Vegeta, due to the latter being suspicious about Paragus, eventually stopping one of Paragus' soldiers from whipping one of the Shamoian slaves. Krillin then punches the air in order to prove that he should not be messed with. The reinforcement soldiers flee, apparently taking the hint, so Krillin decides to show off, causing him to unintentionally punch an Instant Transmitting Goku in the face. Afterwards, when asking the Shamoians about the Legendary Super Saiyan's existence, Krillin suspects that Paragus might actually be telling the truth about the Super Saiyan at least.

He briefly wakes up alongside Gohan, only to witness Goku being viciously attacked by Paragus' son, Broly, as well as being flattened by the destroyed mattress that the irate Saiyan discarded. The next day, Krillin brings several of the slaves over to Paragus' proximity when Trunks was alerting Vegeta about New Planet Vegeta being a fake. After Master Roshi's failed attempt at joining the fight, Krillin explains that Roshi was still feeling drunk from the Hanabi picnic earlier. Eventually, Goku orders Krillin and Roshi to evacuate all of the slaves shortly after Broly blows up their planet Shamo, with their promptly doing so, eventually taking the Capsule Corporation spaceship that Piccolo brought along after their original escape vehicle, Paragus' spaceship, was destroyed by Broly. When witnessing Paragus' spaceship being destroyed, Krillin humorously tries to tell an oblivious Master Roshi about how they needed the ship to evacuate only to interrupt himself and realize that he had forgotten all about finishing his karaoke session.

Krillin participated in the Intergalactic Tournament. Despite losing heart after seeing that Gohan and other members of the Dragon Team had also entered, thus reducing his chances of victory, he still managed to get through the preliminaries, which involved tilting platforms, namely because his opponents could not grab his head due to it being waxed. He was then going to fight Piccolo, but Piccolo forfeited the match out of disgust, saying that he joined to take part in a Tournament and not a freak show.

Krillin then ranked among the finalists, along with Gohan, Future Trunks, and a Sumo Wrestler named Doskoi and headed off in a rocket propelled pod to the Battle Zone. Krillin then fought the supposed first Galactic Champion; Zangya (in actuality one of Bojack's Galaxy Soldiers), and despite trying not to go easy on her just because of her beautiful looks and her being a girl, he was effortlessly beaten by her and delivered to her master, Bojack. He later attempted to aid Gohan in beating Bojack and his minions, but was later beaten down again. He was later hospitalized in the ending as a result of the fight.

However, he later has to go babysitting with his daughter, Marron, and being forced to change diapers after she has "an accident". Eventually, he travels to Jaguar's island to aid Android 18, and ends up fighting Broly's clone, Bio-Broly. He later helps Goten and Trunks in creating a three joint Kamehameha wave in order to create a freak wave after it became apparent that the only way to stop the spread of the culture fluid towards the planet is if it is doused with sea water. He is initially shocked when Bio-Broly re-emerges as a giant, but after Bio-Broly was solidified, he narrowly avoids Goten and Trunks' blasts that were intended to destroy the now solidified Bio-Broly.

Master Roshi wished to return to teaching, but felt that he was too old, thus his former pupil Krillin took on the duty of re-establishing his teacher's school as the New Turtle School. Krillin's teachings emphasized teamwork and overwhelming stronger opponents with multiple attacks. Having fought many battles alongside Saiyans and Namekians, Krillin understood that Humans simply could not compare to aliens and developed techniques that revolved around working together. Even if they are unable to deal a killing blow to kill their opponent, they can still weaken them and, by combining their efforts with others, would be able to contend with far stronger enemies.

Power

Main article: List of Power Levels

Manga and Anime

Despite being regarded as a weakling compared to his Saiyan comrades, in truth, he is the strongest Earthling warrior. In addition, combined with his own battle tactics make him a skilled fighter. Due to him being portrayed often as a comic relief character by the latter half of Dragon Ball Z, his true power is never really seen. When the time counts, however, he can catch opponents more powerful than him off guard. His fighting style also employs misdirection, giving him a further advantage.

Introduced at the start of the Tournament Saga in Dragon Ball, Krillin is a thirteen-year-old boy that left Orin Temple after he had been weaker than the other students there and often bullied. After training under Roshi, Krillin is able to easily defeat his former bullies at the 21st World Tournament. In a filler segment during the Buu Saga in Dragon Ball Z, Krillin is stronger than Goku while training with Roshi in a flashback. Roshi tells Krillin to lower his ki to match Goku's. This, however, is inconsistent as Goku was shown to be superior to Krillin during the training.

At the 21st World Tournament, Krillin struggles to land a blow on Jackie Chun (really Roshi in disguise) until he finally lands a blow that is blocked by Jackie's hand. He then tells Krillin that he was very good since he had to use his hand. Jackie Chun is vastly more powerful than Krillin but Krillin lands a kick when he uses a pair of panties to distract him. His kick is strong enough to send Jackie Chun away into the air, but he managed to get back into the ring and win the fight.

General Blue, the strongest member of the Red Ribbon Army, proves to be much stronger than Krillin and easily defeats him. During the Fortuneteller Baba Saga, Krillin is defeated by Fangs the Vampire but only because Fangs in his bat form was fast and he managed to get Krillin by surprise and drink his blood. The weakened Krillin was then easily defeated by Fangs.

After three years of training, Krillin participates in the 22nd World Tournament. He is shown to have become much stronger and is evenly matched with Chiaotzu in the quarter finals, whom he defeats after tricking him with a basic math question (to weaken his psychic powers). Krillin fights Goku in the semi-finals and has a long match with him where he was able to put up a good fight but was defeated.

Krillin is easily killed by Tambourine, though he was caught by surprise in this instance and was tired from fighting Goku. Tambourine is killed easily by Goku at full power, who had a power level of 180, though Goku had previously been defeated when he was tired from fighting Tien. When Krillin is revived, he trains with Tien, Chiaotzu, and Yamcha. They train under Korin and become much stronger.

At the 23rd Tournament, Krillin manages to land some decent hits and surprise Piccolo on several occasions but is ultimately not strong enough to defeat him. Piccolo even comments at the time that conquering the earth would be difficult with fighters like him.

Krillin's power level at the start of Dragon Ball Z while not fighting is 206 according to Bulma's modified scouter. He trains at The Lookout for a year alongside Tien, Chiaotzu, Yajirobe, and Yamcha in order to prepare for the arrival of the Saiyans. During the battle with the Saiyans, his suppressed power level is 1,083 (1,100 in the anime) and 1,770 when fighting at full strength. When at full strength, Krillin kills all the remaining Saibamen with his Scattering Bullet technique, though one of them had managed to flee and was killed by Piccolo.

After having his potential unlocked by Guru and while powering up to fight against Guldo, Krillin's power level is over 10,000 according to Jeice's scouter and when Vegeta sensed Krillin's potential unlocked power he initially mistook him for Zarbon, but then noted that his power was somewhat weaker than Zarbon's. When first encountering the Ginyu Force, Krillin thinks to himself that he could never become as strong as them no matter how much he trained, other than Guldo - who he considered to be a shrimp power wise. Against Ginyu in Goku's body (whose power level was 23,000) Krillin was able to match and even overpower the captain without using his own full power. Vegeta notes during the battle against Frieza that Krillin's power as well as that of Gohan, keeps sharply rising. This was because of their potential being unlocked by Guru.

In the filler Garlic Jr. Saga, Krillin is no match for the Spice Boys, Garlic Jr.'s henchmen. Every one of the Spice Boys proves to be stronger than Krillin. Two of the Spice Boys in particular, Mustard and Vinegar, nearly kill Krillin on two separate occasions. Gohan, however, manages to kill all of the Spice Boys.

After Goku tells Krillin and the others of the android arrival three years into the future, Krillin rejected Goku's offer to train with him. Instead, Krillin said he'd train with Master Roshi. In the original Japanese dialogue he said he would train with Roshi at his own pace.[18] After three years of training, Krillin shows up for the fight with the androids. However, Piccolo notes that Gohan, Krillin, and Tien are no match for Android 20. Android 20 later ambushes and easily defeats Krillin while he looked for Gero's lab, but he spares Krillin when he senses Piccolo's energy signature and flies away. Even working together with Tien, the two Earthlings are unable to break the door to Gero's lab, while base Vegeta is able to easily destroy it.

In the anime, Krillin is strong enough to hit Imperfect Cell in the stomach with a headbutt.[19] He is utterly decimated by a Cell Jr. when the small Bio-Androids attack, and only survives because the Cell Juniors were suppressing their power as they were ordered not to kill the Z Fighters.

Sometime after the Cell Games Saga, Krillin gave up martial arts though it is unknown when. In the seven-year gap between the Cell Games and the 25th World Martial Arts Tournament, his power likely decreased. However, Krillin and 18 began training together in the ten days before the 25th Tournament. At the tournament, Krillin easily defeats Pintar.

In the Fusion Saga, while Vegito is turned into candy by Super Buu, King Kai suggests to send Krillin and Yamcha to fight him. In the Kid Buu Saga, he is shown to handle Yamcha, who previously easily beaten Olibu, without breaking a sweat. He is also strong enough to stay on his feet with Yamcha against Kid Buu after being hit by the latter's attack, they also lasted the longest out of all the dead fighters. However this is all anime only.

In the manga version of Dragon Ball: Yo! Son Goku and His Friends Return!!, Krillin is intimidated by Aka's Flaming Wahaha no Ha.

In Dragon Ball Super, by the time of Frieza's resurrection and return to Earth after training, Krillin is unable to beat Frieza as he is because he's on a completely different level. Number 18 says that she's still stronger than Krillin. He does however have the power to combat Frieza's soldiers. However, their two elite soldiers, Shisami and Tagoma, are too much for Krillin to handle and he is soon beaten by Captain Ginyu, who possesses Tagoma's body.

In the anime, his power took a significant downturn after the events of Frieza's resurrection, and he became weak enough to be harmed by bullets, as seen when his arm got scrapped by two robber's rifles. It's at this point that 18 remarks how weak Krillin has become, and how the warrior she saw now was not the man she fell in love with, prompting him to train with Master Roshi to enhance his fighting abilities once more. As Krillin regains his fighting spirit, his powers return, and are even enhanced to the point where he can clad his fists with his aura, causing huge explosions. The newly empowered Krillin became strong enough to defeat the very illusions he was initially afraid of, and becoming strong managing to break Goku free from the illusion of Super Shenron, and then even beating the illusion of Super Shenron with Super Saiyan Blue Goku's help. However, whenever Krillin spars with Goku, he bans him from becoming a Super Saiyan, as it is still too much for him to handle.

In the Universe Survival Saga, in the anime Goku and Gohan simulate a battle between Krillin and Basil with image training to try and determine how Krillin will go in the tournament, the battle shows that Krillin can hold his own - primarily due to his special techniques - but would be unable to damage Basil at all and would be defeated. After the battle Gohan is worried about Krillin but Goku is confident in Krillin and says he has been training and will be fine.

Krillin later battles Gohan and defeats him with his new technique, Solar Flare x100, blinding him then knocking him out of the "ring". After this Krillin goes on to fight Goku and is able to keep up with base Goku by using a barrage of Destructo Discs and clever strategy, such as faking Goku out by appearing to cast a Solar Flare and then hitting him with a barrage of energy blasts when he covers his eyes, nearly knocking base Goku out of the ring by knocking him back with a heavy punch then firing a continuous energy wave pushing him to the edge of the ring. This forces Goku to go Super Saiyan, and through his use of a pre-placed attack, Krillin is able to almost get Super Saiyan Goku out of the ring by having caused the ground below him to cave in. Krillin also collides in a beam struggle with him and pushes back a heavily suppressed Kamehameha from Super Saiyan Blue Goku before Goku put more power in and Krillin had to be saved by Android 18. Krillin then proceeds to have a sparing match with 18 and loses.

In the manga, when being recruited for the Tournament of Power, Krillin states that he is out of shape compared to before and that the tournament will help him get back into shape.

During the Tournament of Power, rather than going off on his own, Krillin chose to remain with Gohan, Piccolo, Master Roshi, and Tien Shinhan - they launched an assault that caused little to no damage against Lavender, Botamo, Comfrey, Shosa, and Dercori. Later on, he and Android 18 were able to knock Shosa, a being who was almost able to defeat 18,  out of the arena, implying that Krillin may have caught up to his wife. He is able to fight on par with Majora, one of the strongest fighters of Universe 4. Krillin's Kamehameha was also powerful enough to knock him out of the arena. However, he is no match for Final Form Frost, who effortlessly knocks him out of the arena with a Tail Attack.

Films

In The World's Strongest, Krillin has a power level of 5,000 according to the Movie 3 Pamphlet. He and Gohan are both defeated easily by Kishime.

In The Tree of Might, Krillin struggles against Amond, who deflects his Destructo Disk.

In Lord Slug, Krillin is defeated in one hit by Lord Slug.

In Cooler's Revenge, Krillin is knocked out by Neiz. Neiz was the weakest of Cooler's Armored Squadron and was defeated easily by Piccolo, but still strong enough to defeat Gohan.

In The Return of Cooler, Krillin manages to destroy one of the Cyclopian Guards by blasting them in their weak spot even though they were much stronger than him.

Krillin is shown to be able to keep up with Goten and Trunks, also in their Super Saiyan form, aiding them and Android 18 against Bio-Broly, and even cause him some harm. However it should be noted that Bio-Broly is much weaker than the original Broly as in the previous film, Broly easily knocked Krillin out with a single attack.

In Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection ‘F’, Krillin, along with Gohan, Piccolo, Tien Shinhan, Master Roshi and Jaco hold off Frieza's soldiers for Goku and Vegeta to arrive and take on Frieza. Krillin is said to be weaker than Number 18 but he goes anyway. Krillin is able to take on a group of Frieza's men but at one point is overwhelmed and requires Gohan's help, by the end of the battle he is seen to have gotten minor injuries and thus takes a Senzu Bean.

Statements by authors and guidebooks

Krillin's power level after his potential is unlocked is 13,000 according to Daizenshuu 7. The last rating of Krillin's power level is 75,000 during the battle with Frieza (when Krillin's potential has finished unlocking), according to the 1991 V-Jump #1.

In Krillin's profile for Resurrection ‘F’ he is referred to as "the strongest Earthling warrior".

The Animedia blurb for the Universe Survival Saga also refers to him as "the strongest Earthling". A later featurette for the Tournament of Power once again stated Krillin was the strongest Earthling.[20]

During the Tournament of Power, Krillin was much weaker than both Goten or Trunks in their Super Saiyan states.[21]

Abilities

  • Flight – The ability to fly with the use of ki.
  • Ki Blast – The most basic form of energy wave.
  • Ki Sense – An ability that allows the user to sense ki and power levels.
  • Best Headbutt – Krillin's headbutt technique.
  • Balloon Technique – While falling to the ground, Krillin inhales a large amount of air, causing his body to inflate like a balloon and his fall to slow down.
  • Farting – Usually used as a gag or joke, this move tends to cause victims or targets to pass out due to the horrible stench.
KuririnKamehameha.Ep

Krillin fires a Kamehameha

  • Kamehameha – A powerful Ki blast fired with two hands after concentrating a large amount of Ki.
    • Bending Kamehameha - The user can change the Kamehameha's course, allowing the user to surprise his or her opponent.
    • Multiple Kamehameha - Two or more fighters fire multiple Kamehamehas (one per fighter) simultaneously at a single point. This usually causes their separate Kamehamehas to merge into one giant Kamehameha blast at the opponent.
      • Kamehame Fever - When they use it, Krillin, Yamcha, and Goku each charge their own Kamehameha attacks. Then, they fire them at the same time from three different places to cause great damage to the enemy.
      • Master-Student Kamehameha - When they use it, Goku, Krillin, and Master Roshi each charge their own Kamehameha. Then, they fire them at the same time so that the three energy waves merge into a large Kamehameha, inflicting a huge amount of damage.
      • Friend Kamehameha - Krillin, Goten, and Trunks fire a Kamehameha together at the same time.
  • Double Tsuibikidan – Krillin bends down as he brings his arms to his sides and charges up. Then, he brings his hands forward and fires two reddish-orange energy waves that follow the opponent like homing missiles, inflicting a great deal of damage.
  • Scattering Bullet – It is a large energy sphere fired and sent up into the air. When fired, it is slow, as noted by Piccolo. The user then changes the course of the blast into the air. It then splits into smaller, but faster ki spheres that attack the foe at medium speeds, inflicting considerable damage.

Krillin using Jumping Energy Wave to avoid Nappa's attack

  • Jumping Energy Wave - The user fires an Energy Wave downwards using the force to propel them upwards. The technique also produces a shockwave if they energy wave hits the ground. If an opponent is nearby they will be damaged. Due to the way in which it is performed it can be used to evade attacks by moving upwards.
  • Spread Shot Retreat - An evasive technique where the user fires ki blasts while moving backwards. It allows the user to put some distance between the user and their opponents while attacking at the same time preventing their opponent from following.
KrillinDestructoDiskTOM

Krillin prepares his Destructo Disc

  • Destructo Disc – A razor-sharp disc of Ki that can slice through almost any substance.
    • Chain Destructo Disc – Krillin charges a first Destructo Disc, and then he throws in rapid succession a series of discs which have the ability to cut the opponent apart. Another variation of the move sees Krillin throwing a single Destructo Disc that splits into numerous smaller discs that attack the opponent from all directions.
    • Destructo Disc Triple Blade - First, Krillin charges what appear to be a single Destructo Disc and tosses it at the opponent, and the disc changes to three discs, making it difficult to dodge.
Screenshot 88

Krillin's Solar Flare x100 variation in Dragon Ball Super

  • Solar Flare – The Solar Flare is performed by the user placing their hands close to the center of their face with the fingers spread toward their eyes. The user then calls out the name of the technique, which provokes a white light to fire out and blind everything watching except the user, since they are projecting the light.
    • Solar Flare x100 - Krillin flies in front of the sun and uses the Solar Flare, but as he does he uses much more energy and strengthens the blinding effect. This technique, unlike it's predecessor, has the ability to blind opponents even if their eyes are closed. The Solar Flare x100 also prevents the opponent from sensing the user's ki. However, sunglasses can still negate the intense rays. This technique also does not work on those who are already blind and/or those who use other ways to sense their enemy (other than ki sense).
  • Afterimage Technique – An ability to move so swiftly that an image of the user is left behind.
File:Battle Suit Krillin (DBZ) Krillin taunting 2nd form Frieza by making Funny Face.gif

Krillin heroically taunting Frieza to distract him from Gohan and Dende

  • Taunt - Taunting is performed by a user performing some form of gesture, remark, or insult to annoy or enrage their opponent and throw off their thinking.
  • Tri-Form – A technique that allows its user to split into three identical duplicates to fight as a group. Krillin uses this technique only in the anime.
  • Risking it all for a friend – A defense method in which a character jumps in the way of an incoming Ki Blast to save another character.
  • Photon Bomber – First, the user raises his right hand as he curls his fingers and charges a white energy sphere. Then, he brings his hand forward and fires the energy sphere in the form of an energy wave at the opponent, inflicting a great amount of damage.
KrillinSpiritBombAwayEarth01

Krillin after receiving the Spirit Bomb from Goku

  • Fusion Spirit Bomb - When Goku is defeated by the opponent and lies on the ground, he gives Krillin the remaining energy he has for the Spirit Bomb. Once Krillin forms the Spirit Bomb in his hand, he launches the attack at the opponent. When the opponent dodges the Spirit Bomb, Gohan appears and deflects the attack up into the air at the opponent, inflicting a huge amount of damage.
  • Spirit Ball – The Spirit Ball is formed by making an upwards facing open palm, and placing the other hand around the adjacent arm for support. The user then gathers surrounding energy into the open palm and shapes the energy into a yellow-orange sphere. After forming the Spirit Ball, the user controls and guides it by pointing the index and middle fingers in the desired direction. When initially guided, the attack utilizes kinetic energy to deal damage, striking the enemy multiple times from range. On its last strike, the Spirit Ball is triggered to explode on impact, further damaging the enemy.
  • Rise to Action - The user smacks their own cheeks with both hands to focus their will and restore their stamina.
  • Senkouken – A dashing punch used in the Butōden series.
  • Reverse Kamehameha – Used in the Butōden series.
  • Shockwave Kick – A turn around kick used in the Butōden series.

Krillin after getting his potential unlocked by Guru

Main article: Unlock Potential During the Namek Saga, Krillin has his potential unlocked by the Grand Elder Guru, raising his power to a level above that of the Ginyu Force member, Guldo. The ceremony is simple, the Grand Elder just needs to put his hand on top of Krillin's head and draw out his hidden potential. In addition, Krillin's and Gohan's power rises after each battle, as noted by Vegeta. This "form" appears as a transformation in the games of the Budokai series.

Krillin using Kaio-ken in Xenoverse

In both Dragon Ball Z: Supersonic Warriors and Dragon Ball Xenoverse, Krillin can utilize the Kaio-ken as a "power up". In Supersonic Warriors, Krillin learns the technique in his "What-If" story, after dying of the heart virus, Goku (with Fortuneteller Baba's help) returns to teach Krillin the Kaio-Ken and Spirit Bomb techniques so he can protect the Earth in Goku's place. Krillin can use these techniques in his level 3 form. In Xenoverse, Krillin can use this form as one of his Super Skills in his 5th Skillset. However the Kaioken Awoken Skill does not appear in the sequel, Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2.

DB Fusions Metamoran Fusion Prilin (Piccolo + Krillin)

Prilin in Dragon Ball Fusions

Prilin is a hypothetical fusion between Piccolo and Krillin. He appeared for the first time in the 13th issue of Weekly Shonen Jump. In the Buu saga, Krillin and Piccolo are seen to perform the Fusion Dance as a demonstration for Goten and Trunks, so Akira Toriyama drew a hypothetical fusion between the two characters as a goof. This fusion was simply a drawing and never made it to the manga or the anime. Part of the reason is suggested to be that Piccolo and Krillin's bodies are not similar enough to actually create a fusion through this technique.

In the Dragon Ball Collectible Card Game "Fusion Frenzy" pack, there is a fusion of Piccolo and Krillin named Piccillin.

Despite the hypothetical nature of the fusion, Prilin makes his first playable appearance in Dragon Ball Fusions. It is unclear if this means that a fusion between Piccolo and Krillin is actually possible or a side effect of the warping of timespace within the Timespace Rift making the fusion possible.

EX Prillin is the EX-Fusion of Piccolo and Krillin, as well as the EX-Fusion counterpart of Prillin. EX Prillin first appeared in Dragon Ball Fusions.

Trivia

  • In-universe his name has been shown to be spelt as Kulilin.[24]
  • Like most characters in the series, the name Krillin is a pun. In his case, its Japanese source, Kuririn, is made up of two parts. The first two syllables come from 栗 (kuri), which means "chestnut" in reference to his shaved head (the "chestnut" pun is also carried over to his daughter Marron). The second part of his name comes from 少林 (Shōrin; "Shaolin" in Chinese), as his early character designs were closely modeled on Shaolin monks. Other beliefs are that his name comes from kuri-kuri/kurin-kurin (an onomatopoeia for something cute and round), kuri-kuri shita me (meaning "big round eyes"), or the words kurikuri (which can mean "bald") and rin (a word added to the end of a name to make it sound cute). His English name, meanwhile, seems to be a play on "krill" (both a miniscule species of shrimp-like crustacean and the Swedish term for a small fry of fish) in reference to his diminutive stature.
  • He has a blood type of A.[25]
  • Krillin was introduced into the series due to Akira Toriyama's editor at the time, Kazuhiko Torishima, considering Goku too bland in personality, and wanted another character to make things more interesting.[26]
  • In the poll of the top 20 best characters featured in the book Dragon Ball Forever, Krillin was voted number 7 by Japanese fans. He was the highest of the humans by a large margin.
  • Krillin is the only person to come face to face with every form of each main villain in Dragon Ball Z (if filler is included). He was there when Vegeta first came, he went back to help Goku and saw his Great Ape form. He was there for all 5 of Frieza's forms (unless one counts his 100% state as a different form, and his Golden Frieza form), he tried to fight all forms of Cell, and he saw both of Garlic Jr.'s forms. He was there at the release of Fat Majin Buu, tried to fight Super Buu, and in filler, tried to fight Kid Buu. Although he did not see every absorption of Super Buu, those weren't really transformations but rather absorptions.
  • Krillin breaks the fourth wall in Broly: The Second Coming by saying "None of you would have lasted a season without me!" Although he might of been referring to the weather seasons.
WhoIsThisIs

Krillin on the cover of Who is, This is

  • Krillin appears on the cover art of the Voodoo Glow Skulls: Who Is, This Is album in his Battle Armor.
  • In January 2007, Oricon conducted a poll in which they asked Japanese manga/anime fans which characters from any anime/manga they would most like to see in their own spinoff series; Krillin ranked third in the men's poll and sixth in the overall poll.[27]
  • Krillin is one of the few characters who have broken the fourth wall in the manga. In his case, he suspects that the various sequences of Goten & Trunks performing the fusion dance are all photocopies of the same set of drawings due to how each set of panels appears to be identical.
  • Krillin has died more than any other character in the series, having been killed by Tambourine, Frieza, Androids 17 and 18 (in Future Trunks's timeline), Super Buu, and Android 17 (in GT).
  • In Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection ‘F’, when Bulma calls Krillin his cellphone to inform him about Frieza's return, the ringtone that plays is We Are!, which is the original opening theme the One Piece anime. This is likely a reference to Krillin's seiyū, Mayumi Tanaka's role voicing the One Piece series main protagonist, Monkey D. Luffy. This also applies to the Funimation dub, where Krillin's voice, Sonny Strait, voices Usopp.
    • It also appears in "episode 17" of Dragon Ball Super, when Gohan calls Krillin's cellphone.
  • Krillin's hobby is karaoke.[2]
  • Krillin's favorite food is Chinese buffet.[2]
  • Krillin's favorite vehicle is a sports car.[2]
  • Even though Toriyama designed Krillin for GT (giving him the moustache and grey hair like in the anime) the design he had differs from his GT one, in Toriyama's design he has dungarees and a shirt, while in GT anime a "old man" style suit with a tie.[28]
  • Krillin is the strongest non android earthling excluding Uub
