Dragon Ball Z Balls of Fire Series Yellow with King Kai piece

The "Boules de feu série Jaune" (also known as "Bolas de fuego serie Amarilla" and Feuerkugel, Gelbe Serie") which translated means "Balls of Fire Series Yellow" is a set of miniature bulbous gashapon pieces with the upper portion of some characters included. This set was released in 1996 by AB Groupe and has 21 pieces to collect in the series. There are three different base sets released in this collection, each with 7 unique characters included. The full collection has three different base sets (black, yellow, and blue). Characters included in each set are as follows: Black Series (assortment number 041009/15) Super Saiyan 3 Goku, Tien, Super Saiyan Gohan with Great Saiyaman outfit, Super Saiyan Vegito, Piccolo, Minotia, and Goku. Yellow Series (assortment number 041023/29) Tapion, Videl as Great Saiyawoman, Frieza in his final form, Chiaotzu, Krillin from Saiyan Saga, Krillin from Buu Saga, and King Kai. Blue Series (assortment number 041016/22) Shin, Yamcha, Kid Goten, Kid Trunks, Gotenks, Super Saiyan Vegeta, and Mr. Satan.

Part 2 Keshi Set King Kai

In the late 80's, a series of miniature quarter-priced rubber machine toys was released, much like the Ultimate Muscle series and coming in randomized colors. They are known as Dorakeshi Keshi-Gomu and are rather hard to come by. All characters in this set came in a random color and all of them were very tiny and immobile. King Kai appears once in this miniature set, although the same mold appears in numerous colors, such as green or tan. The mini rubber figurine comes with both hands behind his back. This miniature Part 2 Keshi set has included a few of the characters from the Vegeta Saga (also known as the Saiyan Saga) and some characters from the King Piccolo Saga. King Kai is included in the part 2 set. One of Bandai's Keshi series, it has included characters such as King Yemma, Chi-Chi, King Kai, Piccolo, a Saibaman, King Piccolo, Nappa, Launch, two variants of Gohan (one from the cover art), Goku, Vegeta, Master Roshi, Bubbles, and an older Upa for a total of 15 pieces.

Before the initial HG collection, a gashapon set entitled "Collection Volume 2" was released with ground bases featuring a few characters from the Dragon Ball Z universe. Included in this roster was King Kai with Bubbles. King Kai is seen standing with both arms behind his back and Bubbles in his primate stance, maintaining both hands in front as he remains beside king Kai on the ground. The ground base for this piece has a grass texture. King Kai is seen standing with both arms behind his back and Bubbles in his primate stance, maintaining both hands in front as he remains beside king Kai on the ground. The ground base for this piece has a grass texture. Chara Puchi series King Kai figurine

The Chara Puchi releases by Bandai were not limited to the phone strap series. In December, 2004, there's also a mini figure set that was released and incorporated plenty of characters from the series run. In this set, all the characters came sitting on top of a mini Dragon Ball or another item (such as a space pod). This specific set was entitled “Gohan,” concentrating on the Saiyan/Vegeta Saga. King Kai came sitting on a Dragon Ball and with a miniature base. Others included in this set and also sitting on Dragon Balls are Yajirobe, Kami, Bulma, Kid Gohan, Chi-Chi, Goku, Piccolo, Nappa (on top of space pod) and Vegeta (on top of space pod). Also, the initial releases of these mini-figurines came with a small piece of candy.

Soul of Hyper Figuration series King Kai, Bubbles, and Gregory figurine

Bandai has released the Soul of Hyper Figuration series, which included King Kai in volume 7 of the series. King Kai stands with an expression of calm determination overshadowed by a joyous smile across his face as Bubbles sits next to him and Gregory is seen peeking behind Bubbles. Released in September 2006, the series also included a pumped up final form Frieza, maxed out final form Cooler, Babidi, Dabura, Great Saiyaman, Kid Trunks, Kid Goten, Super Saiyan Goku, Goku erupting with the Kaio-ken attack, and Majin Vegeta.

Soul of Hyper Figuration black and white King Kai, Bubbles, and Gregory figurines

The same Soul of Hyper Figuration set was simultaneously released by Bandai as a black and white alternate coloring scheme. The same King Kai with Bubbles and Gregory figurine set is included in this series along with all the same characters from the color version. There is, however, more impression placed in the form of shadow outlining, which makes the black and white version equally collectible in terms of design. Also released in September 2006, this part of the Hyper Figuration series (primarily revolving around the Babidi saga and the Majin conflicts), was followed by Series 8, which was the Super Buu and Janemba debacle along with the fusions.

Imagination series 9 King Kai, Bubbles, and Goku diorama set

The Imagination Series Part 9 was released by Bandai in September 2006 and has included King Kai in a diorama set featuring Goku chasing Bubbles. King Kai is shown stunned at the speed in which Goku chases after Bubbles, increasing his speed and strength in the process of capturing the primate. King Kai’s facial expression is that of shock as he allows his buddy Bubbles and his pupil Goku to pass by him. Other pieces included in this same Imagination set are Super Saiyan Vegeta slamming into Semi-Perfect Cell using his foot in midair, Piccolo taking the brunt of an attack directed at Gohan, Vegeta and Goku in their scuffle on Earth, Krillin unleashing a multiple blast attack (Kakusan Ha) and obliterating the Saibamen in the process, and Super Saiyan 3 Goku uppercutting as he reveals his Dragon Fist attack while the dragon enshrouds the area around him.

Collection New Generation set including King Kai figurine

Bandai has offered a nice set called the “Collection New Generation,” which includes characters primarily from the Majin Buu Saga. The King Kai in this set comes standing with both arms behind his back. Others included in this gashapon set are Uub, Dabura, Vegeta, Goku (as he appears in the final tournament), Babidi, Great Saiyaman, Kid Buu, a Super Kamikaze Ghost, and Super Saiyan 3 Gotenks.

HG Collection Part 19 King Kai with Bubbles

Bandai released its Part 19 set in October, 2008. This set included King Kai with Bubbles, Super Saiyan adult Gohan, adult Gohan, Kid Buu, Super Saiyan Kid Goten, Super Saiyan Kid Trunks, and Super Saiyan Goku, who were all packaged in the basic gashapon bagging. Aside from maintaining his arms behind him and having a smile across his face, King Kai also comes with a miniature Bubbles who is seen happily tossing his hands into the air. All the details are exquisite on these pieces, including their expressions and overall paint job being extremely on the mark. Since these were gashapon figures, they are individually sealed in their plastic Dragon Balls.

Bandai’s repaints were a common venture and it was no exception when it came to the Dragon Ball Kai SG Collection series. Released in November, 2009, the volume 2 set included a repertoire of characters in purple and green coloring schemes. These were all the same as their original HG Collection pieces in terms of the models but the paint job was altered just for this specific set. Spanning the Frieza saga and included in the SG series 2 and their pertaining color scheme in accordance were: Frieza (Purple), Zarbon (Purple), Dodoria (Purple), Cui (Green), Captain Ginyu (Purple), Captain Ginyu in Goku’s body (Green), Recoome (Green), Jeice (Purple), Guldo (Green), Burter (Purple), Master Roshi (Purple), King Kai (Green), Vegeta (Green), and Super Saiyan Goku (Green).

Another Bandai release is the "Super Saiyan Senshi Strap" series which includes characters from the Cell Saga and Cell Games saga. The figurines in this set stand at about 1 to 2 inches. King Kai is the smallest piece in the set as he stands at 1 inch and comes with both hands behind his back and a smile on his face. Others included in this same strap set are Perfect Cell, Vegeta, Super Saiyan Vegeta, Super Saiyan Goku, Super Saiyan Teen Gohan, and Super Saiyan Future Trunks.

A noticeable unique difference for this King Kai plush is the darker blue coloring scheme used for his skin, which adds more impression in comparison to the forthcoming plush collectibles for King Kai. Also, the clothing has a very detailed pink undershirt and an overall pink and red coloring scheme for his outfit. His glasses and eyes are sewn on. A "Dragon Ball" tag comes attached to the plush with a Banpresto logo and images of Yamcha, Master Roshi, Oolong, Puar, Bulma, and Goku from Dragon Ball era.

Banpresto has released a King Kai plush to go along with the Dragon Ball plush set. This specific plush of King Kai stands at 6 inches (15 cm) high. A noticeable unique difference for this King Kai plush is the lighter blue coloring scheme used for his skin, which differentiates from the previously released King Kai plush collectible. This variant of King Kai's plush pieces has a glossy clothing material as well as pasted-on glasses as opposed to having them sewn. This version of King Kai's plush collectibles also has a red undershirt and a red and yellow coloring scheme for his outfit. He also comes with a suction cup for attachment to car windshields or windows. A "Dragon Ball" tag comes attached to the plush with a Banpresto logo and an image of Goku on it.

A noticeable unique difference for this King Kai 6 inch from the previous one is the material used for the clothing. Here, he has a less glossy, more fabric material. Like the previous version though, this piece also has the red and yellow coloring scheme for his clothing and a red undershirt. His glasses are sewn rather than pasted on as well.

Banpresto has released a 16-inch (43 cm) King Kai plush to go along with the Dragon Ball plush set. This specific plush of King Kai maintains all the details for the smaller-scaled of King Kai's plush collectibles. Every detail is captured for this version of King Kai's soft pieces, from his glasses to his antennae. This version also has a red and yellow coloring scheme as well as a red undershirt. His mouth area is sewn on but his glasses are pasted-on. For a large-scale piece, the King Kai plush remains very similar to the previous two plush pieces of King Kai.

The first Unifive SofVi figurines (5” scale) from series 5 of the Banpresto UFO catcher line of figures was originally released in 2004. These figures come bagged with miniature tags depicting their series numeric and are immobile as their feet do not turn and the articulation is limited. However, the initial paint job and design is remarkable. The King Kai came packaged with an open-front packaging along with the others from the set (Nappa, Vegeta, a pair of Saibamen, and Goku). The King Kai is very hard to come by but is especially well-designed in his relaxed posture, maintaining his hands behind his back. This is the closest likeness at a 5-inch scale offered by Banpresto.

High Grade Coloring Keychain King Kai with Bubbles figurines

Following the initial releases, Banpresto also released a highly detailed King Kai with Bubbles keychain set in 2007. The figure stands at approximately 3 inches tall. Also included in this keychain assortment was Vegeta with a pair of Saibamen, Raditz, Goku, and Nappa. The King Kai comes with finger being raised upward as he is seen making a point. His little buddy Bubbles is seen raising his arms upward and in a playful posture. The figures still have an airbrushed paint job. The figure's distinguishing factor is the great impression placed on King Kai's facial expression, which is made slightly sharper and the overall motion of his limbs, which are shown in movement.

Another of Banpresto's HQ chain sets, This keyring series is a unique one. As a Dragon Ball Kai series release, it features a Saibaman in a tight hug hold as it appears to be rising from the ground, Piccolo re-growing his lost arm, Vegeta raising his arm up as he prepares an attack, Goku charging his Spirit Bomb, and King Kai with his hands behind his back. These pieces are a rather unique set for collectors and make for a great keyring series installment with this new feature, allowing the pieces to be squeezed.

Kai Super Variant High Grade Coloring King Kai with Bubbles Keychain re-release figurines

Offering an alternate paint job, Banpresto also re-released a highly detailed King Kai with Bubbles keychain figure set in 2009 as a part of the Kai "Super" variant re-release series. The figurine stands at approximately 3 inches tall. The King Kai is in the same pointing posture as prior and Bubbles is still portrayed in the same playful manner. The figure still has an airbrushed paint job. The figure’s distinguishing factor is the great impression placed on King Kai’s skin tone, which is made dimmer and adds greater shading in comparison to the previous High Grade keychain release. Also, the paint job is greatly different from the prior release, being much darker and glossy in terms of the overall appearance. Particularly, the skin tone and shading has a colorful yet darker glow.

Banpresto released DWC series Volume 2 with King Kai in March, 2009. This figure (standing at 7.2 cm) comes packaged in a mini-box and displays the featured character in front of the box and others in the same set on the side panel of the box. It is listed as collectible number DBZ010 and is from vol. 2. This King Kai comes with both arms behind his back and a smile on his face. The figure also comes with a base to stand on. Others included in this same volume 2 set are Bubbles, Gohan, Goku, Bulma, Chi-Chi, Ox-King, and Krillin.

The Banpresto DWC vol. 2 includes King Kai as collectible number DBZ010 in the Kai re-release miniature series and was released in November, 2009. The figure comes in the same posture as its original release. These figurines come boxed and in their own authentic case with the character image in front, as do all the other figurines in this set. The King Kai stands at 7.2 cm and is the second variant of this character to be released in this set. This version, unlike the original release, is colored with a metallic style. The boxart is slightly different, having an orange outline rather than a blue one. Others included in this same volume 2 Kai variant set are Bubbles, Gohan, Goku, Bulma, Chi-Chi, Ox-King, and Krillin.

The box packaging is very unique and is designed for this set, capturing the essence of these characters.

High Grade Coloring Final Battle HQ Keychain King Kai with Bubbles figurines

Following the initial releases, Banpresto also released a highly detailed HQ High Grade Coloring King Kai with Bubbles in the Final Battle February 2011 set. The figure stands at approximately 3 inches tall. The King Kai comes in a desperate position with Bubbles beside him, both of them with a halo atop their heads as they are deceased when watching the final kamehameha showdown between Gohan and Cell. His little buddy Bubbles is seen pondering the outcome as he raises a finger to his face. The figures still have an airbrushed paint job. King Kai's facial expression is that of desperation and concentration as he feels the deadly energy from the confrontation. Also included in this keychain assortment is Perfect Cell (kamehameha posture), Super Saiyan Goku (kamehameha posture), Super Saiyan Gohan (kamehameha posture), and Vegeta.

This HoiPoi Capsule Keychain series is a nice addition offered by Banpresto. Included in the miniature oval-shaped hoipoi capsules are Mr. Popo, Goku, Piccolo, Yajirobe, King Kai, and Bulma. The set makes for nice keychains or phone straps but also has an additional feature. The capsules themselves can be opened and the mini figurine can be taken out. King Kai is seen maintaining both arms behind his back and Bubbles at a miniature scale beside him.

This unique strap series released by Banpresto features a unique feature. Each character comes with an attachment which they can easily be inserted into and kept outside. King Kai comes attached to a replica of his planet, which he can fit into, his feet sticking out from the bottom. This is a very nice strap set featuring some unique pieces. Others included in this set and their attachment are as follows: Majin Buu with his Sealed Ball, baby Goku with a Saiyan Spacepod, Shenron with a Four-Star Dragon Ball, and a Great Ape with a yellow moon crater.

This miniature Banpresto Riding Keyring set has included King Kai. King Kai is seen riding his red collectible car as he remains inside the vehicle. This is a nice and meticulously detailed piece, primarily due to the vehicle itself. The car is a vintage model and is King Kai's prized possession. This piece is attached to a keyring, allowing for easy hanging. Other pieces also included in this set and also riding a vehicle are Mr. Satan, Bulma, and 2 variants of Goku.

Released by Bandai in October, 2013, the High Grade Revival (HGR) series is a brand new repaint series offering previously featured figures from the HG Collection lineup. Characters included in this set are Majin Buu, King Kai, Vegeta, Super Saiyan Vegeta, Super Saiyan 3 Goku, Battle Damaged Super Saiyan Goku, and Piccolo. Each of these pieces is a repaint and features a metallic shine as well as a glossy paint job. King Kai is seen with his hands behind his back and a laughing expression. The piece is very similar to the previous HG Collection King Kai piece. He holds a glossy and shiny paint job as well as having a golden lining on his black clothing as opposed to the basic yellow.

This upcoming WCF DB Super volume 2 series is to incorporate a few characters appearing in the newly introduced series and King Kai is included in this volume 2 installment. This set is scheduled for release in March, 2016. Those included in this set are Korin, Yajirobe, King Kai, Mr. Satan, Majin Buu, and Super Saiyan God Goku. Each piece comes with a unique packaging and is highly detailed for this exceptionally limited exclusive scenario set. King Kai is seen holding a laughing expression and both hands raised in front with eager enthusiasm.

Dragon Ball GT Your Heroes in 3D King Kai figurine

  • DeAgostini’s Dragon Ball GT Collection: Your Heroes in 3D

Italian manufacturer DeAgostini has released a 5-inch set comprising of numerous pieces, specifically limiting this slew of additions to characters appearing in Dragon Ball GT. King Kai (who stood at about 4 inches) was included in this set due to his appearance in the GT Sagas. The figurines are immobile with miniature white bases to stand on. This particular figurine's base is circular. King Kai comes with a smile on his face and his hands behind his back. The figure's numeric is number 31 in the set.

Italian manufacturer DeAgostini has released a 4 to 5 inch set comprising of approximately 60 characters, specifically limiting this slew of additions to Dragon Ball GT characters. After a long hiatus from 1996 to 2001, an additional 30 figures were added to the existing 30 originally released in 1996 for a total of 60 figures between DeAgostini and Editions Atlas releases. Originally released in Italy, the second wave of reissues were offered in Spain in 2001. King Kai was included in this set due to his appearance in the GT sagas. This figure comes atop a black round base and one arm behind his back while the other is tightly gripped and raised in front of him in an expression of complete frustration. Unlike the previous model, this figurine is a portrayal of King Kai's desperation and a moment of confusion, also depicting King Kai's frantic facial expression. The figurines are immobile and the Japanese name of the character is notated at the bottom of his base along with the date of release. This piece was exclusive to the 2001 release although the mold was produced in 1996. It is the second DeAgostini and Editions Atlas piece of King Kai to be offered at the basic figure height.

King Kai stands with an expression of surprise in Irwin’s basic toy line pertaining to the Saiyan Saga. Introduced in September 2000, both his hands are in an open posture while his miniature friend Bubbles comes alongside him as an accessory to the pack. Standing just about 4 inches, the figure is modeled to perfection and comes with Bubbles to complete the setting. The major difference of this release is the boxart being different, which makes the item equally as collectible if not more-so than the initial King Kai release by Irwin.

A 7-piece Keshi miniature set encompassing characters from Dragon Ball Z's Saiyan Saga was produced by Plex and holds the Banpresto logo. Plex's 7-piece set included a randomized selection of the characters from Bandai's Keshi Series Part 2 set, which was originally released in 1989. These Keshi pieces in the packaging are randomized but include everyone from the Series 2 sets depending on which 7 are inserted in each packaging. King Kai can be found in these 7-pack sets in numerous Keshi colors. King Kai is randomly inserted in these packs, and may or may not be in some packages. Also, these mini pieces come in randomized colors, ranging from a variety of red, green, blue, and yellow bases. The miniatures are scaled at the same height and basically re-releases of Bandai's previous Part 2 set in brand new packaging by Plex. These packs are highly collectible for a vintage set. Also included in the pack is a randomized pog and holofoil sticker.

In the 90's, a series of miniature quarter-priced rubber machine toys was released, much like the Ultimate Muscle series and coming in randomized colors. They are known as Dorakeshi Keshi-Gomu and are rather hard to come by. All characters in this set came in a random color and all of them were very tiny and immobile. Released by Plex, a box set has included 18 Keshi pieces along with 2 large full-color pieces in the set, one of Gohan and one of Goku. King Kai appears once in this miniature set, although the same mold appears in numerous colors, such as red, green, blue, yellow, or tan. The mini rubber figurine comes with an expression of serious anticipation, both hands tightly gripped in front of him. The 18 basic Keshi Characters included in this box set are Nappa, Raditz, Piccolo, Krillin, Chi-Chi, Ox-King, Chiaotzu, Tien, Yamcha, Kid Gohan with hat, Kid Gohan holding his hat, Kid Gohan with sword, Kid Gohan with ceremonial clothing, Vegeta, Master Roshi, Goku, Yajirobe, and King Kai.

MegaHouse has released a slew of Gashapon figures in a diorama series entitled Capsule Neo incorporating scenes from the Dragon Ball universe. The “Cell Returns” wave involved the Cell Saga conflict. This set was released in April, 2009 and revolved around the Imperfect Cell and Perfect Cell sagas. Goku is seen waving goodbye along with King Kai in the horizon as they accept their fate and their death. This scene is a depiction of the final ending to the Cell Games saga. The basic set was released within Dragon Balls and the Gashapons included two figurines each. This specific piece was exclusive to the color base and was not available in a gold base like the rest as it was a special piece in the set. The rest of the series, however, was also released as a gold base, with both figures coming as gold versions rather than colored ones. Others included in this set are Super Vegeta versus Perfect Cell, Future Trunks opening a can of soda, Imperfect Cell attempting to absorb Android 17, Perfect Cell Powered Up versus Super Saiyan Teen Gohan, Goku teleporting the exploding Semi-Perfect Cell as Teen Gohan watches, Kami and Piccolo standing back to back prior to their decisive fusion, and Super Saiyan Goku and Super Saiyan Teen Gohan exiting the Hyperbolic Time Chamber.

Others included in this set are Goku holding up Nappa, Raditz slamming Piccolo and Goku, Vegeta standing, Piccolo shielding Gohan, Goku tearing off his Gi, Goku chasing Bubbles, and Gohan eating as Piccolo watches in the distance.

King Kai's pose remains calm and concentrated yet depicts a virtuous smile across his face, maintaining both his arms behind his back. Lawson has released an interesting compilation of the Dragon Ball manga side panel portrait image, which includes all the characters flying on the panel in a circular motion around a round tube. Lawson has designed this set for the Coca-Cola Company as a promotion in 2008. King Kai comes exactly as he appears in the side panel photo, while running across the panel with one arm in front and the other behind him as he holds a twig. The full set includes a wide range of characters that are also seen flying or running across the panel. There are two sets to collect for the Coca-Cola series, one of the Dragon Ball series and the other of the Dragon Ball Z series, both featuring the side flaps. The set which pertains to King Kai also has Kid Gohan, Yajirobe, Dende, first form Frieza in his hoverchair, Captain Ginyu, Vegeta, Cell, Android 17, Android 18, Android 16, and Super Saiyan Goku to twist along the tube and become one large collectible set.

Released in May, 2000, the Crazy Bones addition to the Dragon Ball franchise has brought a nice repertoire of characters in this miniature format. GoGo's Crazy Bones (also referred to as Crazy Bones or GoGo's) are small collectibles that became popular during the 1990s and 2000s, produced by Spanish company Magic Box Int. and additionally by PPI Worldwide Group, which remains the only distributor in North America. They are named crazy bones due to the craze revolving around the collection of these pieces. The Dragon Ball Z set spans the Saiyan/Vegeta saga debacle as well as the Namek Saga conflict and has 40 pieces in the set. Each figurine comes in a multitude of colors and designs but remains the same sculpt. King Kai is included in this set as a full-body piece and is number 13 of this set.

Argentinian distribution company Sticker Design (SD) re-released the mini figurine of King Kai sitting on a Dragon Ball originally released by Bandai in a series called "Dragon Ball Z Mini Toys" and the set is entitled "Serie 1." Additional details on the packaging include "1 Mini Toy + Action Card De Regalo." Included in each package is a glossy action card which has a 3D effect to the prism front. A few miniature finger puppet toys were released incorporating some characters from the Frieza Saga, Cell Saga, and Buu Saga. King Kai was amongst these few characters. All the pieces are made in a very cute chibi style and are rather small pieces. The King Kai piece actually has an inaccurate coloring scheme used as his skin tone is a human one rather than blue as it should be. Others included in this small set are Vegeta, Frieza, Krillin, Gohan, Kid Buu, Perfect Cell, Future Trunks, Piccolo, and Super Saiyan Goku.
