"Might makes right and might alone! Without strength, we have nothing! If I don’t win, then all my effort, all I’ve struggled to achieve, all of it will have been pointless! I'll lose everything, just like I did before... and I absolutely refuse to go through that again! I cannot! I will not!"
— Jiren's refusal to lose in "The Greatest Showdown of All Time! The Ultimate Survival Battle!"

Jiren (ジレン Jiren), also known as Jiren The Gray (灰色のジレン Haiiro no Jiren), is a member of the Pride Troopers. He served as the main fighting antagonist in the Universe Survival Saga and as a major contestant in the Tournament of Power. An extraordinary powerful being, Jiren is considered to be one of the strongest mortals in all of the multiverse, outclassing even Destroyer Gods.

He is a quiet and honorable fighter, who believes in strength and justice. He previously did not trust anyone and never considered teamwork at all during battle, opting to fight enemies single-handly, and almost always winning.

Appearance

Jiren

Jiren is a tall humanoid with an extremely muscular and well-defined build. He has a large, sleek head similar in shape similar to the folkloric aliens known as the Greys. He has gray skin, big round black eyes with enlarged pupils and dark grey sclera, flat round ears, and a barely visible flat nose. He wears the uniform of the Pride Troopers, consisting of a red, spandex-like suit with black sections around the collar and legs, white gloves, and white boots.

Personality

"Jiren is a man who is completely devoted to justice. He never acts on any of his own desires or interests. And no matter how evil a villain he's up against, his absurd conviction is such that he won't ever kill them. But there is one thing... He has a wish that he'd even be willing to set aside his convictions to have come true."
Belmod to Khai in "The Man Named Jiren"

Jiren is a man who devotes everything to justice and never acts for selfish reasons; he lives to protect Universe 11, even stating that he would leave the tournament while it was happening in order to return there if any problem arose in the 48 minutes of the tournament. When Top tells Jiren to participate in the Tournament of Power, he initially refuses to enter - as while it is his duty to protect Universe 11, he will not cause the destruction of other universes to save his own. He will never kill any villains he defeats and instead captures them. Even more, he shows disgust towards those who actively kill and do not follow justice. This is seen when Jiren mocks Hit's "honor" as an assassin, deeming it as rubbish. However, Jiren has a wish that he wants to fulfill, to the point that he will go against his very own principles to get that wish - and as such he enters the tournament to obtain the Super Dragon Balls, although he still states that if any trouble should occur for Universe 11, he would immediately leave to help.

Jiren is very stoic and serious about most matters. This was shown when he did not perform a pose like his teammates. Jiren also appears to be a quiet person, as speaks very rarely more than necessary. He is very brave and disciplined, remaining unfazed by practically anything. Even more, he is a very focused and observant man, constantly watching and studying his environment to better prepare for any new threat. At the same time, he usually only acts when he feels it is necessary, as he remained stationary at the start of the tournament until seeing Kale go berserk and deciding to end her rampage. However, he is not beyond getting startled. When foes managed to catch him off guard or prove able to compete against him, he can become visibly rattled by it, as seen when Hit captured him in his Cage of Time or Vegeta avoiding his high-speed punches and hit him solidly.

While Jiren acknowledges his role as a soldier and follows a chain of command, listening to and following orders from his superiors, his attitude towards them can be blunt and even disrespectful, even if not intentional, as he sternly told Top to step aside so that he could handle Maji Kayo, replying to Belmod in a somewhat disrespectful manner during their telepathic conversation, and later blatantly addressing him without an honorific. On the other hand, when foes manage to exceed his expectations, as seen with Vegeta and Goku, he will openly applaud their performance to voice his respect towards them for reaching such heights without losing their identity. Alternatively, Jiren will openly ridicule those who do not live up to his expectation and would lose all respect for them, even his superiors, as he was disgusted by Top sacrificing all of his former beliefs in exchange for power and completely lost any respect for his leader and even went as far as to coldly mock him by calling him pathetic.

Jiren is very proud of his strength.[1] He even refuses to accept the help of his comrades even in moments that he is pressured by the opponent. Like Goku, Jiren feels uncomfortable knowing that an opponent is not using their full power against him and will not use any more strength than necessary. Jiren's usual approach to fighting is to let his opponent come to him. When fighting, Jiren deliberately allows his opponents to attack him with their ultimate abilities, only to counter them in order to display his superiority. As such, Jiren shows a great excess of confidence border-lining on arrogance; after beating Goku and eliminating Hit, he withdrew from the tournament to meditate, openly declaring that his help to secure the victory of Universe 11 was no longer necessary.

Jiren's selfless sense of duty and arrogant demeanor stems from the traumatizing losses from his childhood, both the murder of his loved ones and essential betrayal of those he trusted in the past. Desiring so strongly to bring absolute justice to Universe 11, Jiren's single drive has evolved to crudely believe that absolute strength is the only way towards justice and as such is compelled to prove himself the mightiest of all. His goal also has made him something of a perfectionist as he was greatly angered by Android 17 catching him off guard to land a damaging blow on him, regardless of how minor. Even more, once he was the remaining fighter of his universe, he became rather condescending, openly calling his remaining foes insects.

As Android 17 deduced, Jiren's stoic-demeanor is but a glimpse of his solitary nature. Android 17 notes that Jiren is haunted by his past losses, desperately trying to undo it all by forging his own path of justice. While fighting for justice, he has no loyalty to anyone beyond himself, believing that trusting in others will ultimately backfire. Even more, he has no qualms about his allies falling in battle, seeing it as them doing their job and them at least providing him with more information on how to handle the battle.

Jiren is not without some personal joy. Should a foe prove able to truly draw him out, he expresses enjoyment, as he smiled at Goku's growing power to where he was able to land a decisive blow on him forcing him to fight seriously. At the same time, regardless of his confidence in his strength, stemming from the emotional scars of his past, Jiren in reality is terrified at the idea of losing to the point where he is not above fearing his opponent, evident in when after seeing Goku dominate him in all aspects with Ultra Instinct. Believing so strongly that power is the only means of justice, once truly pressured in battle, Jiren will lose his composure, becoming extremely savage in battle, caring about nothing else but victory as he feels losing in any form means losing all he has worked for. Once reaching this hostile state, he becomes essentially unreachable with words.

Essentially, Jiren's views are the exact opposite to Goku's, who values allies and assistance, viewing them as the key to true growth. Once Goku's personal drive allowed him to evolve his power enough to truly challenge Jiren, the Pride Trooper became very erratic. As Goku continued to challenge all of Jiren's views, Jiren even momentarily abandoned his own values as he willingly tried to kill Goku's friends to prove that bonds with others can easily be erased. However, when Goku's drive ultimately proved greater than Jiren's and technically defeated him, Jiren's honorable side was shown by his acceptance of defeat, although he still expressed frustration when Goku pointed out in the end Jiren did realize his beliefs were better, and more impressively, after Goku suffered the side-effects of overusing Ultra Instinct (due to not being used the form), Jiren refused to knock down Goku as he did not want to win in such an underhanded manner and only reluctantly decided to do so when Belmod reminded him that he will obtain the Super Dragon Balls if he wins. He also told Goku that even if he and Universe 7 would be erased, Goku would live on forever in his memories, showing that Jiren truly recognized Goku as an equal.

After Jiren’s defeat at the hands of Frieza and Goku, Jiren smiles in respect at Goku’s demand to see each other again. This act changes Jiren, who realizes after the resurrection of Universe 11 and at Top’s harsh comments that in the Tournament’s final moments he learned to let go of his past and has begun to build connections, a prospect he smiles at as he prepares to grow stronger for the next time he faces Goku and after a talk with Top, agrees that they will become better friends so they can win next time. Even before this, as Top noted, from his spirit being restored to try to live up to the Pride Troopers expectations, this shows that he had subconsciously built a bond with his allies and he just couldn't realize it until then.

In the manga, Jiren's personality is drastically different and demonstrates more heroic traits than his anime counterpart. He is stated devotes everything to justice and never acts for selfish reasons; he lives to protect Universe 11, even stating that he would leave the tournament while it was happening in order to return there if any problem arose in the 48 minutes of the tournament. When Top tells Jiren to participate in the Tournament of Power, he initially refuses to enter - as while it is his duty to protect Universe 11, he will not cause the destruction of other universes to save his own. He will never kill any villains he defeats and instead captures them. He also does not like having his enemies killing themselves, as shown by how he clearly was not happy that Android 17 sacrificed himself but showed respect of his selflessness. However, Jiren has a wish that he wants to fulfill, to the point that he will go against his own principles to get that wish - and as such he enters the tournament to obtain the Super Dragon Balls, although he still states that if any trouble should occur for Universe 11, he would immediately leave to help. This wish was later revealed to be the resurrection of Gicchin, his old master who died against the one who killed his parents, although interestingly, this wish doesn't seem to stem so much from the pain of losing his teacher, but in that he never officially graduated under his teachings. At the same time, like his anime counterpart, Jiren is fully independent, focusing more on his mission than the well-being of his allies, as he viewed winning the tournament as more important than saving Top and Dyspo from elimination (albeit it was on the grounds that they would simply be sent to the stands unharmed and he did save them from being tortured by Frieza, implying he does care to an extent for the other Pride Troopers). He also displays unusual views not seen in his anime counterpart, as shown by how he berated Goku for recklessly powering up to the point of harming himself in an attempt to defeat him, saying that power that harms the body cannot be wielded properly, and later on after trouncing SS Blue (Evolved) Vegeta, Jiren noted that he does not arrogantly toy with his opponents and actually fights each battle by putting his life on the line, showing respect for his old master by saying he was taught that way, ultimately showing that his greatest drive is living up to the expectations of his fallen teacher. At same time, for all his commitment to Gicchin, Jiren remained oblivious to core nature of Gicchin's teachings; team-work. This stemmed from his highly independent nature, feeling that he can accomplish anything he desires on his own.

In Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2, Jiren acts more like a classical superhero who always bombastically preaches about justice and is far more outspoken than both his anime and manga counterpart, making him act more like Top than anything else. Ironically, this personality greatly resembles what he was originally supposed to be like before Toriyama rewrote him into a "stoic character with a tragic backstory". It is also important to note that Jiren's personality in the game is a side-effect of his self-learning after the Tournament of Power when he threw away the arrogance and the lonely behavior, starting to be more sociable and even friendly to others.

In the manga version of Super Dragon Ball Heroes Jiren is shown to have become friendlier and more trusting of others as he thanked Top for having been able to last this long against the Core Area Warriors after Top was knocked out by Ultimate Kamiroen and to let Dyspo take care of Kamin and Oren. He's also willing to team-up with Hit despite his initial disdain of the assassin and helped Goku and Vegeta as gratitude for the help they brought to the other universes.

Biography

Background

Baby Jiren

A young Jiren training

In the anime, when Jiren was a child, he returned to his house and found that his parents were killed by a villain. He was saved by Gicchin, who would become his teacher and took him away to improve his strength. Later, with his allies, Kitchen's other students, they fought the villain, but most of his friends and even his teacher died. His remaining friends gave up hope on avenging their lost ones and moved on with their lives. From that point onward, Jiren was alone and trained so he could become stronger, as he no longer believed in trust, only in strength. To Jiren, strength is justice, as strength is absolute, qualities which attracted Belmod to him. He lived in solitude until he met the Pride Troopers.

In the manga, Jiren was encouraged to join the Pride Troopers by his master Gicchin, who lost his life to a monster some time afterwards. Having never received his master's approval, Jiren sought strength further on his own, never understanding that the goal of his master having him join the Pride Troopers was to teach him the value of teamwork. Despite this, Jiren worked hard as a Pride Trooper protecting the lives of all he could in his universe, never even killing the villains he fought.

Jiren's power would eventually grow to be greater than that of even a God of Destruction; however, he was not interested in becoming one and so his comrade Top was chosen to be the God of Destruction candidate for Universe 11 instead. Jiren's wish was to resurrect his former master and he wants to fulfill it, no matter the cost.

Jiren's very existence was considered a rumor in other universes; he is known as the only mortal that a God of Destruction cannot defeat.

Belmod asking Jiren for help

In the manga, Jiren was on Planet Towale dealing with the prisoners that broke out of the galaxy prison and started a riot. When the Pride Troopers were combating Choki, who was attacking Planet Bas, Jiren suddenly arrives and defeats Choki instantly, capturing it by turning it into a capsule. Top tells Jiren they need to talk in the ship, however, Jiren states that they must ensure the safety of the civilians first. Once this is done, Top requests that Jiren enter the Tournament of Power, however, Jiren refuses - stating that he will not destroy other universes to protect his own. However, Belmod arrives and tells Jiren that if he wins the tournament he can use the prized Super Dragon Balls to grant "his wish", hearing this, Jiren agrees to participate on the condition that if anything happens in Universe 11 while they are away he can return immediately to help.

He, along with the rest of the Pride Troopers participating in the Tournament of Power, arrive in the Null Realm to start the Tournament of Power. Jiren, along with Top, looks just as serious for the tournament, as he knows the stakes of the tournament if they lose. When Goku arrives to greet him, Jiren manages to get right behind Goku and tells him to get lost, surprising Goku because Goku had his eyes on him the entire time, yet he was still unable to actually read his movements.

The Katchi Katchin missing Jiren due to his advanced movement analyses

When the Gods of Destruction who were reconstructing the arena realize the teams have already arrived, they begin to increase the speed of the reconstruction, causing the Katchi Katchin to fly at incredible speeds. All of the other fighters dodge the blocks, but Jiren was able to perfectly analyze the movement patterns of the blocks and found his position was perfectly fine, so just when they seemed like they were about to hit him, they avoided him completely. This leaves Goku very impressed, as he remarks Jiren is truly no ordinary fighter. He and the rest of the Pride Troopers prepared to fight as the Tournament of Power finally begins. When Rabanra prepared to fight him, Jiren scared him off by a single look.

Jiren defeating Kale

During Kale's rampage, Jiren defeats her with a single attack and at Goku until Top showed up and blasted him with Justice Flash. They then retreated to preserve stamina. Later on, when Ribrianne unleashed her Light of Love all over the arena, Jiren knocked away one of the projectiles and tried to stop the attack completely with his Power Impact, only for Vegeta to beat him to it. He, alongside Top and Kunshi watched Dyspo's fight with Hit. He and Dyspo are ordered by Top to drop all restraints, even moral ones, in order to save their universe.

After Dyspo was tricked and trapped by Maji Kayo, Jiren came to his aid and immediately intercepted his giant fist with the force created by the power of his punch, resulting in the jelly-like humanoid getting knocked out of the arena and eliminated from the tournament.

Jiren blocks Goku's Kamehameha wtih his ki.

In the special, approximately halfway through the tournament, Belmod commands Jiren to crush Goku. Jiren unleashes his Ki which permeates through the entire Null Realm, shocking everyone including Beerus. Goku fires a Kamehameha only for it to be completely negated by Jiren's wall of energy. Goku then turns into a Super Saiyan and begins landing blows on Jiren, which have no effect on him whatsoever. Goku turns Super Saiyan 2, which also demonstrates little success, and then Super Saiyan God, but his blows are easily blocked by Jiren with only one finger. Goku powers up to Super Saiyan Blue and begins trading blows with Jiren. Jiren easily counters all of Goku's attacks and overpowers him, even when he starts using X20 Super Saiyan Blue Kaio-ken. After knocking Goku down, Jiren grabs him by the hair and blasts him off the arena, only for Goku to be barely hanging on by the edge.

Jiren momentarily struggling against Goku's Spirit Bomb

As Goku attempts to attack Jiren again in his X20 Super Saiyan Blue Kaio-ken state, Jiren seemingly glares at Goku and deals several invisible blows, knocking Goku away. It is revealed that Jiren's attacks were so fast that even fighters such as Vegeta were unable to see it coming. Goku then resorts to his trump card and creates a Spirit Bomb using the energy of Team Universe 7 (except Vegeta, who refuses to give Goku energy). Jiren allows Goku to charge the attack, intrigued at how powerful Goku's trump card is. As Goku tosses the Spirit Bomb at Jiren, Jiren easily repels it with one hand much to everyone's shock. Goku then turns Super Saiyan Blue, forcing Jiren to use two hands, albeit with only minor difficulty. Goku uses Kaio-Ken once again, but ultimately prove ineffective as Jiren is still able to push the Spirit Bomb back. Eventually, Jiren used a concentrated glare to push the Spirit Bomb back at Goku. The two clashing powers of Goku and Jiren cause the Spirit Bomb to implode upon itself, covering Goku in the explosion.

"Well Saiyan, you are a truly fascinating creature. However, your passion is expended. You have nothing more to offer. "
— Jiren before finishing off Goku in "Goku Enkindled! The Awakened One's New Ultra Instinct!"

Jiren and Ultra Instinct Goku face off

As the smoke clears, it seems as though Jiren had won the battle and Goku was vaporized by his own attack. However, Goku re-emerges in the state of Ultra Instinct -Sign-. In this state, Goku attacks Jiren, the only one out of the three Pride Troopers in the area that saw the attack coming and dodged it. Goku is able to dodge Jiren's attack in this state and exchange a few blows before being interrupted by Top and Dyspo, who attempts to attack Goku, only to be quickly thrown aside by him. Jiren signals to Top that he doesn't want his help, and the two begin fighting. In Goku's state of Ultra Instinct, he is able to dodge and counter most of Jiren's attacks and have even shown to be able to push him back, although he is unable to land any serious damage on Jiren. However, Goku soon loses this power due to the imperfect state of the form, and Jiren blasts Goku aside with a Power Impact, severely wounding him. Hit comes in an attempt to attack Jiren when he's open, but Jiren easily blocks his attack and questions Hit as to what he's doing, and Hit says that he's working.

Jiren stops Hit's attack

Jiren stops Hit's attack

Jiren and Hit began their battle with Jiren blocking all of Hit's attacks and counter his Time-Skip as well, much to Hit and Champa's shock. Jiren begins to corner Hit until he finally lands a hit on Jiren, which is also his trump card. With that attack, he manages to paralyze Jiren, but Jiren still manages to move somewhat slowly. Seeing that he can't hold Jiren much longer, Hit goes for a final attack on Jiren but Jiren manages to stop it with his glare. Then, Jiren grabs and crushes the energy sphere Hit was attacking him with, which released him from the paralysis. After attacking Hit for a while, Jiren sends him flying out of the ring with a Power Impact. After Top and Dyspo arrive, Jiren sits down and starts meditating, claiming that the opponents he was needed for are finished and he is no longer needed, staring at Goku as he says so before meditating. He was then attacked by Viara and Catopesra but they were unable to breach his barrier.

While he is meditating, his arm twitches when he feels Kefla's energy, but he still feels there is no need for him to intervene. Once again, when Kefla and Goku power up to their respective Super Saiyan Blue and Super Saiyan forms, Jiren's right eye twitches, yet he still does nothing. It is only when Goku reaches a new height in his Ultra Instinct -Sign- form that Jiren finally stops his meditation and decides it is time for him to fight once again. He then watches Team Universe 7 eliminate Universes 2, 6, 4, and 3 from the tournament with Top and Dyspo by his side. After the elimination of Universe 3, the remaining members of Universe 11 finally confront the remainder of Team Universe 7, to which Jiren proclaims that no matter what they do they will not emerge victoriously.

Jiren clashing with Vegeta

The final battle starts off, with Jiren fighting a fully powered Super Saiyan Blue Goku and asking why Goku seeks more strength, oddly saying that Goku doesn't know when Goku answers by saying he simply wishes to become stronger. When Goku asks if Jiren wants to become stronger too, Jiren only responds by saying he seeks what more strength has to offer. Vegeta soon charges in and fight him as well. Jiren at first lets Vegeta attacks him, taking no damage from the relentless assault, however, when Vegeta proclaims he will be the one who gets the Super Dragon Balls, Jiren becomes annoyed and punches Vegeta away. He prepares to blast him only for himself to be knocked aside by Goku. The Pride Trooper then fights both Saiyans at the same time easily dodging their attacks. However, when Jiren attempted to land a flurry of punches at Vegeta; the Saiyan Prince (who had watched Jiren attack Goku) easily dodged them and landed a devastating blow against the Pride Trooper, much to his intense shock. Jiren is then pushed back by Vegeta and once again takes another heavy blow though soon turn the tides and nearly knocks Vegeta off the stage with a Power Impact. Jiren proclaims that Vegeta will never be able to defeat him and that his fighting style has no purity. Vegeta then powers up a fully charged Final Flash and fires it at Jiren who blocks it this time. When the dust settles, Jiren is briefly seen on the ground seemingly knocked out by the blast, only to appear in front of Vegeta in an instant without a scratch and commends him for the attack. He engulfs Vegeta in a massive orb of energy which implodes onto itself and knocks Vegeta out.

After defeating Vegeta, Jiren turns his back to them and acknowledges Vegeta as a warrior before telling him to stay down. However, Goku then powers up and once again challenges Jiren to which the Saiyan begins to use Instant Transmission around him while avoiding his attacks. Unbeknownst to Jiren is that Goku planted Ki landmines that explode once Jiren stepped on one. However, it is revealed that Jiren avoided the first explosion by jumping up in the air. He then proceeds to destroy several Destructo Discs thrown at him by Goku before literally grabbing one with his bare hand and tosses it back which slices through the platform that Goku was standing on before he punches the latter away. He begins to pummel Goku atop of the collapsing platform before unleashing a devastating punch into Goku's chest. As Jiren charges energy into his fist and preparing to eliminate Goku from the tournament, the Destructo Discs return and slice through the platform where Jiren was standing shocking the Pride Trooper. He tries to blast Goku but the Saiyan kicks him off before he could. Despite this, Jiren is not so easily defeated as he begins to show his aura and jumps off the debris before returning to the ring thus preventing himself from being eliminated.

Jiren faces Goku and Vegeta beyond their limits

Jiren begins to casually walk towards Goku, all while shrugging off the Ki landmines that Goku planted earlier. He attacks Goku once again, quickly overwhelming the Saiyan, before he starts to power up, which is actually something of a rare event, according to Belmod and Khai. Goku and Jiren clash once again, exchanging fierce blows across the battleground, before Jiren evades an attack from Goku and charges up energy into his fist, before shooting it outward, creating a beam that pierces through several slabs of concrete and reverts Goku from Super Saiyan Blue to his base form, due to sheer shock. The Pride Trooper then begins to pummel Goku with a multitude of punches before stopping, causing Goku to state that Jiren hits harder than anyone he has ever fought before, but he will not back down, much to Pride Trooper's annoyance. Jiren then notices Vegeta standing back up, who once again declares that he will be the one to defeat Jiren and obtain the Super Dragon Balls. The Pride Trooper faces off against both Saiyans who start to power up to their maximum; resulting in Goku going X20 Super Saiyan Blue Kaio-ken and Vegeta attaining a new transformation that is said to be beyond the power of Super Saiyan Blue. Jiren invites them to attack and the Saiyans begin to pummel Jiren relentlessly, while the Pride Trooper attempts to defend himself. He notes that their attacks have gotten much sharper, only for them to attack once again and begin to gradually overwhelm Jiren. Tien initially is stunned to see Goku and Vegeta working together, but Whis notes that they actually aren't and instead are fighting their own separate battles with Jiren, which is ironically throwing him off-balance. After being knocked into a pile of rubble, Jiren easily blasts his way out, and Pride Trooper and the Saiyans stare each other down.

Jiren watching Top's destructive rampage

Jiren continues to fight against Goku and Vegeta, rendering both of their attacks useless as his begins to raise his power slowly. He takes on a Kamehameha and Final Flash directly, only to emerge unscathed, and he deflects another Final Flash with a mere glare before knocking back Goku and Vegeta, all while being relaxed. During his fight with Goku and Vegeta, Jiren sensed Top's increased power after unleashing his God of Destruction Mode, and stops fighting, noting that Top has "made up his mind". Soon afterward, Top destroys the entire fighting stage, leaving only pieces for the fighters to stand on, and Jiren decides to watch Top's rampage.

Jiren Smirking

Jiren smirking

As Top engages in battle against Frieza and Android 17, Jiren resumes his own battle against both Goku and Vegeta which interrupts the fight between Top, 17, and Frieza. During the fight, Jiren starts to become frustrated by their persistence and attempts to blast them with a Power Impact which indirectly strikes both 17 and Frieza instead of Goku and Vegeta. Jiren lands next to Top and as Vegeta is about to attack him from behind, Jiren nods to Top and allows the God of Destruction candidate to fight Vegeta instead, consequently separating the Universe 7 fighters from one another. When Top was eliminated by Vegeta, Jiren berates him, calling him pathetic as he expected more from Top, clearly disappointed that Top abandoned his beliefs and everything he stood for in exchange for power whereas Vegeta stood by his beliefs and managed to defeat Top. After kicking Goku aside, Jiren then congratulates Vegeta on defeating Top, only to actually smile, and at last begins to showcase his true power, much to the remaining Universe 7 fighters' shock.

Jiren Injured

Jiren injured for the first time

Jiren releases his true hidden power, which causes everyone in both the arena and the stands to stare in sheer awe and bewilderment; the two Zenos even noted that Jiren seemed be on "fire". Vegeta proclaims that since Jiren is the last opponent, they will defeat him and win, which is a notion that Jiren scoffs at, and he declares that they will not beat him with the wounds they endured. The three Universe 7 fighters attack Jiren all at once, but the Pride Trooper is able to block and dodge all of their assaults with seemingly no effort. He knocks back all three before dodging several Ki blasts from Goku, and uses his energy to block a cross-beam attack from both Vegeta and Android 17. After blasting the latter with a Power Impact, Vegeta attacks Jiren, at which the Pride Trooper blocks all of his blows and kicks him away, only to also block from a flurry of attacks from Goku as well. After a fierce scuffle, where he knocks Vegeta back to base form with an energy punch, and performing the same technique to erase Goku's Kamehameha, Jiren is suddenly hit by a surprise attack from Android 17 from the back. When the dust clears, it shows that for the first time that not only is Jiren's uniform besmirched, but he is also somewhat injured. The Pride Trooper is enraged by this and attempts to attack Android 17, only for the latter to push him back with a barrage of Ki blasts. The three fighters deduce that when Jiren's guard is down, he can take serious damage. Then, they perform a coordinated attack on Jiren, who actually successfully counters their attacks by dispelling Android 17's beam while also blocking Goku's Kamehameha and Vegeta's Final Flash simultaneously, with the sheer intensity of his energy; although he momentarily struggled against the assault. Jiren then releases a wide-range attack with his energy that engulfs and knocks out all three fighters.

JirenBeatFrieza

Jiren defeats Golden Frieza with ease

Jiren is then suddenly attacked by an enraged Frieza, only for the Pride Trooper to effortlessly stop True Golden Frieza's attack with a glare and knock him out with two solid punches. After Android 17 gets Jiren's attention, Belmod questions the android on what he will do if they win and obtain the Super Dragon Balls. Upon answering, Android 17 directs the same question to Jiren, but is curious as to why he desires the wish, as he assumes that someone as strong as him would need no wish, but Jiren does confirm that he indeed is after a particular wish. Upon hearing this, Belmod reveals Jiren's tragic past, and his reasoning behind his obsession with strength. Jiren only silences Belmod and attacks Android 17, who muses that since Jiren has no need for trivial things like trust or companionship, it seemed that he only used the Pride Troopers as a means to further his own goals, which angers both Jiren and Belmod. Jiren scoffs at Android 17's statements of him, declaring that only with strength you can achieve anything, including being able to bury the past. Jiren then fires a colossal orb of energy, with the intent of eliminating all three Universe 7 fighters. However, Android 17 manages to save both Goku and Vegeta by creating a barrier that holds back the attack, and additional barriers around each of them. When Android 17 seemingly self-destructs in order to destroy the attack, Jiren is given no penalty for it, and as a result, is now facing both Goku and Vegeta. He tells the two Saiyans to be grateful for Android 17's sacrifice to save their "weak" lives. Goku collapses, due to sheer exhaustion, leaving Vegeta to face Jiren alone.

Jiren dodging Vegeta's punch

As Vegeta and Jiren stare each other down, Jiren finds the idea of Android 17 sacrificing himself to protect them is ridiculous, and proclaims that no matter how many weaklings gather against absolute strength, it is pointless in the end. Vegeta attempts to go Super Saiyan, but is far too exhausted to do so and thus resorts to fighting Jiren in his base form. Jiren defends himself against Vegeta's powerless assaults with no effort at all, while berating him on how futile it is to persist, but Vegeta continues to attack nonetheless. After Jiren knocks Vegeta to the ground, the Saiyan begins to have flash backs of the moments he spent with his family, causing him to stand back up and tells Jiren to not underestimate the Saiyans. Vegeta attacks once again, but Jiren easily dodges and follows with a heavy punch to the face, leaving Vegeta with a swollen eye in the process. Despite the damage, Vegeta continues to resist and Jiren continues to block or dodge his blows, before kicking or punching him away. Jiren then unleashes a series of punches at Vegeta, before knocking him down to the ground, telling him that he cannot win, but Vegeta counters by saying that his loss does not matter, so long as Universe 7 wins. He then grabs and tries to break Jiren's arm, only for the Pride Trooper to blast him off with a simple flare of his energy in his arm. Vegeta, once again, stands back up, insisting that this fight is not over, only for Jiren to punch him off the remnants of the arena, but miraculously, Vegeta is saved when his boot hangs on one of the edges of the debris. The Saiyan Prince yet again continues to stand up, now relying on sheer willpower alone, this causes Jiren to ask Vegeta on what drives him this far to continue, despite the odds. Vegeta states that even if he told him, someone like Jiren could never understand what it means to protect something. He attacks the Pride Trooper once more, and blasts him with a Final Flash, but it does little to no damage to Jiren. After catching one of Vegeta's punches, he acknowledges the great pride Vegeta has before declaring that their fight is officially over, and finally knocks Vegeta off the arena, eliminating him in the process, but not before the latter gives Goku the last of his energy, in order to fight Jiren one last time.

Jiren punched in the gut by Ultra Instinct -Sign- Goku

Goku stands back up, revitalized by Vegeta's energy, and goes Super Saiyan Blue. Jiren wonders why Goku's friends have put so much faith in him, stating that trust begets nothing, though Goku disagrees with him and is amused by the fact that Jiren thinks so. He goes on to attack the Pride Trooper, but, despite regaining his stamina, Goku's attacks are rendered useless by Jiren, who blocks them with little effort. Jiren then lands a heavy blow on Goku, reverting him back to his base form, though the Saiyan continues to press on. Jiren counterattacks and begins to viciously pummel Goku, until they reach the end of the cliff of debris they are standing on. He charges energy into his fist and prepares to finally finish off Goku; however, the latter is able to dodge it, much to Jiren's surprise, as he couldn't see him move, as Goku had re-acquired Ultra Instinct -Sign- for the third time. He attempts to land more punches on Goku, only for the Saiyan to effortlessly dodge them all, before countering with a severe blow to Jiren's stomach. For the first time, Jiren actually showed visible signs of pain from the punch alone, shocking the spectators. Goku then powers up Ultra Instinct -Sign-, as he and Jiren stare down one another, all while slowly powering up, preparing themselves for their final battle.

Jiren about to clash with Ultra Instinct -Sign- Goku

Jiren and Goku continue their stare down while the spectators watch with increasing tension. And in the blink of an eye, Goku is suddenly in front of Jiren rearing for an attack with Jiren performing the same. Their fists collide which results in multiple explosions as the two warriors engage in a fierce and powerful exchange. Jiren dodges a massively strong punch from Goku, then counters with his own only for Goku to evade it as well with Jiren then dodging a mighty kick from Goku that demolishes the battleground around them. Jiren pushes Goku back with his glare before the two engage in a flurry of high-speed punches. As Goku starts to charge his Kamehameha, Jiren attempts to stop him with his Invisible Strikes but to no avail. Goku then fires his Kamehameha at Jiren which completely obliterates the ground they are on. However, it is revealed that Jiren actually managed to block the powerful attack with his Power Impact. Top states that after his first battle with Ultra Instinct -Sign- Goku and observing it for a second time against Kefla, Jiren was able to read and see through his attack pattern. Jiren then unleashes an extremely powerful blast that knocks Goku all the way up in the air, although Goku managed to survive by creating a barrier with his Kamehameha. When Goku was seemingly knocked out, Belmod ordered Jiren to finish off Goku quickly with the Pride Trooper charging energy into his fist, leaping forward and prepares the finishing blow only to knocked by a sudden burst of power from Goku. The two godly warriors resume their fierce battle with Jiren at first knocking Goku away from him a few times before going to hand-to-hand combat. As they continue to fight, the spectators observe that their battle prowess is steadily growing, becoming faster and stronger with every exchange of blows between them. However, it is not until that Belmod and the others begin to notice the heat emitting from Goku is growing with intensity even to where it is reaching the stands.

Jiren smiles at Goku's extreme energy before powering up himself

After Belmod orders Jiren to stop wasting time and finish off Goku, Jiren raises his power level even more before knocking Goku down onto a slab of concrete, followed by him literally raining down a hail of rapid-fire punches, with Goku shielding himself from the assault, although the platform he is standing on will eventually crumble from Jiren's assault and thus eliminate Goku in the process. Universe 11 bask in their oncoming victory only when Top notices that in the midst of the hail of fire, there are shockwaves being emitted from within and the same shockwaves that emerge whenever Jiren and Goku's fists collide; this means that Goku's state has switched from defensive to offensive. The Saiyan slowly starts to stand as he punches through Jiren's attacks with the Pride Trooper continuously pushing forward. However, Goku completely cancels the attack and responds by redirecting Jiren's attacks back at him in addition with his own straight into Jiren's chest, causing the Pride Trooper to reel back in great pain. Jiren lands on the pillar as he observes Goku's ever increasing power and notes that with such a powerful strike and the increasing intensity of the heat, Goku is reaching his max power. This actually, for the first time, brings out a smile from Jiren as he responds with his own full power, unleashing a fiery aura so vast that it encompasses the entire arena. Jiren then prepares a colossal Power Impact before condensing it in his hand and proclaims that this is where it all ends before firing.

However, much to the shock of everyone present, including Jiren, the attack simply vanishes once it connects. Jiren slowly turns to see Goku being enveloped in a brilliant white light, holding his attack before causing it to disintegrate with nothing but a flick of his fingers. Jiren attempts to attack Goku, but the Saiyan suddenly appears right in front of him before evading his attack, when Jiren is suddenly bombarded by punches that nearly knock him off the pillar. Jiren fires his Invisible Strikes, only for them to be merely flicked aside by Goku. The Pride Trooper launches himself at Goku; however, once Jiren is seen going past Goku, the latter evading his attack, Jiren is again bombarded by a rapid flurry of punches before being knocked down from the pillar, much to the intense shock of Belmod and everyone else. Jiren looks up as Goku approaches him from above the pillar, the Saiyan finally achieving the perfected state of Ultra Instinct.

As Jiren struggles to stand a little, Goku declares that this is where their real battle starts, with the Pride Trooper looking up with increasing frustration at this predicament. Goku goes in for the attack, and moves so fast that Jiren was unable to see him at all and nick his cheek much to his intense shock. Despite this, Jiren tells Goku that he should not be so cocky just because he powered up before engaging in battle. However, Jiren quickly finds himself outmatched by Goku's newfound intensity and speed as he is unable to land any hits while Goku is effortlessly dodging and attacking Jiren at the same time. After Jiren is knocked into several slabs of concrete from a powerful punch, he begins to grow increasingly angry and reminisces his past failings and the reasoning behind them before strongly proclaiming that he will not and cannot lose no matter what. Jiren then unleashes a vicious cry and is forced to power up once more, shrouding himself in a blazing storm of intense fiery ki that sets the entire arena ablaze, his Ki engulfing and violently shaking the World of Void, to where even the spectators on the Stands were pressured by it.

Dragon-Ball-Super-Episode-130-Goku-Ultra-Instinct-Jiren-0122

Super Full Power Jiren in a stalemate with Ultra Instinct Goku.

After Jiren's chaotic power-up that sets the arena ablaze, he approached Goku cloaked in an aura similar to Ultra Instinct, but reddish in color with his Pride Trooper uniform completely blown off. Jiren goes in for the attack and begins to fight evenly with Ultra Instinct Goku. During one of their struggles, Jiren blows back Goku with a Power Impact and continues with his relentless assault. Jiren then fires a beam of energy at Goku, to which the Saiyan responds with a Kamehameha as the two god-like warriors clash in a beam struggle. Jiren, however, overpowers the Kamehameha and detonates the beam unto Goku, engulfing the Universe 7 warrior in a massive explosion. However, Goku was able to survive the attack and engages Jiren once again, with the Pride Trooper bewildered at the amount of power that Goku has even after sustaining the attack. Goku knees Jiren in the stomach, before he kicks the Saiyan, away only for Goku to respond with an energy blast that Jiren manages to block and deflect back at Goku. He then knocks Goku down and unleashes a beam of energy straight into his back and blasts him into the ground, knocking him down.

"To hell with your friendship! To hell with your trust! To believe such things would be to deny all that I've witnessed up until now. I know how easily it's ripped away! I'LL SHOW YOU!!"
— Jiren before firing at the Universe 7 stands in rage in "The Greatest Showdown of All Time! The Ultimate Survival Battle!"

However, despite the ferocity of his attack, Jiren is incredulous upon witnessing Goku stand back up, exclaiming that he should be completely out of stamina. Goku explains that through his friends and family, he is able to push far beyond his limits to unleash his power. Angry at Goku's words, Jiren says that such things are meaningless before him and the two once again collide in a fierce and mighty exchange of blows. During the fight, Jiren is slowly overwhelmed before being sent flying through one of the slabs. Goku tells Jiren that this power is the power that his friends and family have provided him. Frustrated at how Goku's views clashes with his horrific past, Jiren, in an extremely dishonorable act, aims a Power Impact at Team Universe 7 sitting in the stands, forcing Goku to rush in front of the stands to deflect the blast. Jiren proclaims that these meaningless things like friendship, trust, and family can easily be erased. This underhanded tactic pushes Goku into a devastating fury, with Goku flying straight at Jiren and unleashing a massive punch on his face. Goku and Jiren once again collide in a powerful exchange, with Goku overwhelming Jiren, ending with Goku firing a mighty Kamehameha straight at Jiren and blasting him back into the ground. On the ground, battered and bruised, Jiren asks Goku why he is not finishing him off, with the Saiyan telling him that despite his frustration, he knows the meaning behind Goku's words, though Jiren stubbornly refuses to accept this. When Jiren accepts defeat and prepares for Goku to finish him, the extreme toll of Ultra Instinct's strain brings Goku to his knees while Jiren looks on in shock, as Goku is ravaged by the after-effects. Belmod quickly orders Jiren to finish off Goku while he has the chance, and despite being hesitant for a moment, he complies with Belmod's frantic orders to defeat Goku during his small window of opportunity given. Fully acknowledging Goku's power, Jiren refers to him as a proud warrior and prepares a sufficient Power Impact to take out Goku. Jiren admits that he did not wish for their battle to end this way, yet even though he will be erased, Jiren will always keep Goku in his memories. Yet as Goku is knocked away by the blast, a kiai appears from nowhere, deflecting Goku's path to keep him onstage. Jiren turns towards the direction the kiai came from to spot Golden Frieza. Android 17 rose from the rubble, revealing that he had survived his own self-destruction attack, and powers up alongside Frieza to face off against Jiren.

Despite being outnumbered, Jiren states that their attempts to defeat him are futile especially since they dragged one of their own back to stage in critical condition while musing that it is because of this "trust". Frieza, however, counters by saying that Goku is simply insurance and that he will obtain the Super Dragon Balls for himself before declaring that Jiren will taste defeat by his hands. This angers Jiren to where he attacks and knocks back Android 17 before engaging in combat with Golden Frieza while plummeting down to one of the remains of the arena. Frieza notices that Jiren's usual stoic demeanor is no longer present and that he even seems nervous. Jiren orders the tyrant to be quiet but when Frieza taunts him into being afraid of becoming the weakling he was in the past this sends Jiren into a rage where he pins Frieza down by the tail and pummels him repeatedly. Frieza counterattacks by using his telekinesis and slams two large slabs of concrete into Jiren allowing Android 17 to tackle him and charges up a ki blast while restraining him. Jiren yells that the same trick he used before will not work twice but Android 17 forms a barrier around them to contain the blast before detonating it on Jiren. As the smoke subsides, Jiren falls to his knees and is heavily injured from the attack much to the bewildered and shocked looks from Universe 11. Jiren's spirit appears have broken as he lays on his knees, accepting his defeat while Frieza charges a Death Beam to finish him. However, Top then yells his words of encouragement to Jiren, proclaiming that he is not one to accept being in such a pathetic state and that Jiren is strong, he has always been the strongest and Top believes in his strength. This in turn gives Jiren the boost to stand and charge up before releasing a tremendous wave of power that forces both Frieza and Android 17 to form a barrier together to protect themselves but Jiren's energy is so strong that it causes the barrier to crack threatening to eliminate them in the process. As Jiren prepares to finally blast the two Universe 7 warriors, Goku steps in and strengthens the barrier with his own energy, this amuses and excites Jiren upon seeing that Goku once again stands before him before increasing his power even more. The three push their energy greatly to expand the barrier outward and cancels out Jiren's attack, but this does not deter the Pride Trooper as he looks on with a wide smirk of anticipation before letting out a war cry and charging at both Goku and Frieza.

Goku and Frieza vs

Jiren fighting against Goku and Frieza

Jiren takes on both Goku and Frieza, and even appeared to be enjoying himself for a brief moment, exchanging strong blows with each other. As Jiren punches Goku in the stomach, he restrains Jiren's arm allowing Frieza to knee him in the face, before the two step aside to let Android 17 blast him upwards with Goku and Frieza charging in as Android 17 continuous his assault by striking Jiren repeatedly with three beam attacks knocking him into the pillar and injuring him further. Goku and Frieza then land devastating blows against Jiren's ribs and neck respectively, but despite the damage the mighty Pride Trooper knocks them back with his Invisible Strikes and charges head-on towards Android 17. Goku tosses Frieza at Jiren with the intention of taking him out with him but Jiren redirects the plummet into one of the destroyed platforms. He smashes Frieza into the ground and, apparently incidentally, rips off the lower third of his tail. However, Goku collides against Jiren with the two Universe 7 warriors using every bit of power they have to push Jiren out of the stage.

Jiren respects Goku

Jiren showing his respect for Goku before being erased

Right before he is eliminated, Jiren is astonished at Universe 7's power while also at what trust can provide in order to win before Goku and Frieza unleash a massively powerful attack that not only eliminates them both, but also Jiren, finally defeating the mighty Pride Trooper. As Jiren is sent to the stands, everyone tends to the injured warrior and express their gratitude towards him for fighting so hard in order to save their universe but Jiren asks why they are thankful since he treated them all with nothing but contempt. Goku then tells Jiren that even though the tournament is over, Goku is still not satisfied with their fight, and tells Jiren that no matter what he thinks, they both got stronger by fighting and that he is hoping to see him again. Jiren at first is perplexed by this, but then smiles at Goku before finally being erased by the Zenos along with Universe 11.

Jiren finally accepting friendship and promises to defeat Goku one day

After Android 17 wished for all the universes that were erased to be returned, Jiren states that even though Goku wants to see him again, he cannot form connections with anyone since he is bound to his past and mistakes. Top, however, counters by stating that the only way Jiren stood back up despite all the damage he received is because of the support he got from the stands and not just the usual praising of his power, but one that connects to companionship. Jiren is stunned by this revelation, and when Top assures him that the next time they meet Universe 7 and will win, Jiren smiles at the prospect, finally accepting that through friendship and trust can you truly be strengthened while also beginning to let go of his past, and also promises that the next time he meets Goku, he will win in their next battle.

Jiren vs. Cunber

In the anime, Jiren is shown in Universe 11, preparing to battle the evil Saiyan Cunber after he had just defeated his Pride Trooper teammate, Top. The two confront each other for a while with Cunber saying that they are equal but that he will not lose, transforming into a Super Saiyan 3 Full Power in the process. Jiren attempts to continue his battle with Cunber only for it to be cut short by the arrival of Hearts who briefly restrains him while he tells Oren to face Jiren instead and teleports Cunber away to Universe 3.

Jiren vs. Fused Zamasu

As Jiren battles Oren, Kamin soon intervenes wanting to join in, as well as Fused Zamasu. Jiren engages Fused Zamasu who are both able to swiftly dodge each others attacks but the fight is interrupted when Future Trunks appears and tries to attack Fused Zamasu. When Goku appears, Jiren is surprised to see him and then holds off Zamasu when he tries to go after Goku, blocking one of his punches and countering with one of his own that knocks Zamasu away. Jiren throws a large energy blast at Zamasu that engulfs his entire being but is then surprised to see Zamasu still standing, completely unscathed. Zamasu explains to Jiren that he is immortal just as they continue their battle. Jiren continues to overpower Zamasu but his attacks still have no effect. After Shin arrives and teleports the Saiyans away, Hearts and Zamasu voice their intention to head to another Universe. Jiren attempts to stop them but Hearts immobilizes him inside an Energy Cube.

In the manga, Jiren arrives just as ultimate Kamioren is about to kill God of Destruction Mode Top and easily defeats the monster, defusing it back into Kamin and Oren. He prepares to take down the heavily injured Cunber, only for the ancient Saiyan to be taken away by Fu. Jiren then tells Dyspo to restrain the two Tuffles.

Jiren appears in Universe 7

In the anime, when the Dragon Team are facing off against Fused Zamasu, Jiren teleports in from above having been transported there by Khai, and kicks Zamasu off of Goku. Shortly after when Hit also appears, the three including Goku attempt to take on Zamasu before being pushed back by a pulse from the newly completed Universe Seed. After Hearts re-appears and kills Zamasu, Jiren attempts to face him along with the others but is taken down multiple times with ease. Jiren joins Hit in an attempt to take Hearts down while Goku and Vegeta begin the process of fusing into Gogeta.

During the proceeding battle, Hearts summons the God Meteor and sends it straight for Earth. Gogeta tries valiantly to hold the meteor off but as he begins to struggle, Jiren along with Hit join the fused warriors side and fire powerful blasts of their own. The combined attack successfully destroys the meteor and Gogeta goes on to destroy Hearts. As peace finally returns to Earth, Jiren asks Gogeta why they didn't fuse during the Tournament. Immediately afterwards they defuse back into Goku and Vegeta with the latter telling Jiren that its because he never wants to fuse Goku.

In the manga, Jiren and Hit head to Earth to repay Goku and Vegeta for their help earlier on. At some point during the fight against the Ultimate Godslayer Hearts, Jiren and the others become trapped in Hearts' Gravity Cage with the God Meteor fast approaching. Jiren enters into his Super Full Power mode and uses his massive Ki to push back against Heart' gravity, allowing Goku and Vegeta the freedom of movement needed to perform the Fusion Dance necessary to become Gogeta who ultimately destroys the God Meteor and kills Hearts with a powerful Kamehameha.

Jiren makes a cameo appearance when Goku mentions the Tournament of Power.

Power

Jiren is one of the most powerful mortals warriors in the multiverse, often being considered the most absolute among them. While Jiren started off very weak as a child and much of his adolescence, his arduous pursuit for power later led to an inconceivable improvement to the point of unquestionably being the strongest mortal warrior and pride of Universe 11 being that since joining the Pride Troopers, Jiren had never lost a single battle. His might vastly surpasses that of Top, the second strongest mortal of Universe 11, and a God of Destruction candidate whose training can wield said power for additional might.[2] Furthermore, he was the original choice to be the next Universe 11 Destroyer, but turned it down. Despite this and possessing no godly ki, Jiren has already surpassed the domain of a God of Destruction, as the destroyer of his universe, Belmod, cannot beat him, which made him famous in other universes as the only mortal a God of Destruction cannot defeat. In the manga, Whis noted that Jiren's potential growth is still immeasurable, showing a remarkable growth rate as the more he struggles, the more quickly he adapts and grows. His raw speed is even shown to exceed that of his ally Dyspo (at least outside of his Super Maximum Light Speed Mode). Jiren also was appointed as unbeatable by his allies during the Tournament of Power and the idea of someone facing him equally was considered absurd, being that until his final fight against Goku in the tournament, Jiren had never encountered another warrior who could press him since he surpassed Belmod. Even more his gods, Belmod and Khai, watched the tournament in its near entirety completely calm despite knowing the looming danger of them and their universe being erased if defeated, showing that much confidence in Jiren's might. Overall, his multiversal-class might is made all the more impressive by the fact that the near-entirety of it was self-taught.

In the anime, despite his overwhelming might, Jiren's fighting style is mostly defensive as Jiren tends to let his opponents come to him. He will calmly let his opponent show their hand, refusing to strike back until either required to or the opponent shows enough strength to actually compete against him, and even then, use no more strength than the amount truly needed. Offensively, his attack methods are very basic, but solid and efficient, quickly decimating the foe with sheer force. Jiren has extremely advanced movement analysis, able to near-instantly perceive and determine the flow of events. When the Gods of Destruction opted to finish fixing the ring faster, Jiren did not bother to dodge the high-speed movement of Katchi Katchin, as he quickly determined that they would not strike him - whereas everyone else opted to dodge.

Manga and Anime

After seeing Goku's Super Saiyan Blue Kaio-ken might, Top notes firmly that the Saiyan would have no chance of winning against Jiren. Upon meeting Goku, Goku immediately became in awe at the might of Jiren's mere presence. To which, when Goku approached the stoic warrior, Jiren instantly got behind Goku, who was completely unable to follow or react to this, despite looking right at him, leaving Goku stupefied.

MajiKayovs

The shockwave from Jiren's punch defeats Maji Kayo

In the anime, during the Tournament of Power, Jiren scared Rabanra away by just looking at him. When Kale went on a rampage in her Legendary Super Saiyan form, Jiren effortlessly knocked out and launched Kale away with a single Power Impact, while everyone else was completely overwhelmed by her power as even their strongest attacks barely even fazed her. Hit, Universe 6's strongest warrior, opting to fallback against Jiren after witnessing his power against Kale. Jiren effortlessly deflected a projectile from Ribrianne's Light of Love, which most of the other fighters had great difficulty dealing with. Against Maji Kayo, the sheer force from Jiren's punch sent a shockwave that knocked the foe out of the arena without direct contact.

In the manga, Jiren first faced Nigrissi, and was able able to knock him down with a single blow. He then proceeded to charge through Maji-Kayo and Pancéa, easily knocking them aside though not knocking Maji-Kayo out. Seeing this, Goku noted that even as a Super Saiyan he was not even on Jiren's radar.

In the anime, once Jiren began to get serious, he unleashed such intense ki that it shook the entire Null Realm, a realm of infinite size, and stupefied everyone present. Beerus was shocked and sweating over his massive power, wondering how one person can unleash that much energy. With no effort to defend, Jiren took no damage from Goku's attacks up to Super Saiyan 2 and blocked Super Saiyan God Goku's assault with a single finger. Once he began getting serious, he casually thrashed Goku about even with his X20 Super Saiyan Blue Kaio-ken might. Even the usage of the Universe 7's Spirit Bomb barely made Jiren use both hands to hold it back as a simple release while gradually wearing Goku down before launching it back. When Goku re-emerged with Ultra Instinct -Sign-, only Jiren could follow the empowered foe. Jiren initially deflecting Goku's assault without much effort, but Goku's prowess kept steadily growing, forcing Jiren to fight seriously and keep on par. Even though Goku gradually started pushing Jiren back, finally overwhelming him and landing solid blows, he quickly emerged unfazed despite being rattled by the blows. Before Jiren could be fully tested against Ultra Instinct power, Goku regressed to normal, letting the Pride Trooper instantly knock out Goku. Immediately afterwards, he effortlessly blocked a preemptive sneak attack from Hit with his free hand. Frieza, for all his self-confidence, noted that he wanted to avoid having to fight Jiren at all costs.

Against Hit, Jiren's extreme power level diluted the effectiveness of the master assassin's Time-Skip to the point of having nearly no effect on him. This, combined with Jiren consistently anticipated and reacted to Hit's assaults let him effortlessly counter Hit each time. Jiren also easily blocked Hit's Flash Fist Crush and likewise emerged unfazed by a point-blank blindsiding hit of the same attack. While trapped in Hit's Cage of Time, Jiren could still move with significant effort despite being suspended in time. Vados and Shin states that Jiren's might transcends time itself. Realizing Jiren would soon escape, Hit attempted to eliminate Jiren, who stopped Hit with an Invisible Eye Blast and proceeded to break the technique. Jiren then effortlessly pummeled and knocked Hit out of the arena. In the manga, after Jiren easily defeats Hit using Time-Skip, he easily repelled Goku Perfected Super Saiyan Blue assault, unfazed by a point-blank God Kamehameha and calmly blocked each of Goku's teleporting strikes in rapid succession. He then outfought Goku and Hit at the same time, completely indifferent throughout it. As Hit challenged him alone with his Time Lag, while Jiren was slowed down, he took taking advantage of Hit's belief that he had the edge by allowing Hit to knock him back towards the edge of the arena before powering up somewhat and knocking Hit out of the arena with a single blow. He then proceeded to battle Perfected Super Saiyan Blue Goku and held the advantage.

After defeating Hit Jiren calmly decided to leave the rest of the tournament to Top and Dyspo, stating that the remaining opponents were no longer a threat, instead resigning to meditation. In credit to his claim, his body would continuously produce a powerful barrier in this state, to which Dyspo notes that no one is worthy of fighting Jiren if they cannot even get through the barrier. As the Universe 6 Saiyans began showing a tremendous increase in power and even fusing together, it only momentarily deterred him from his meditation. It is only when Goku's Ultra Instinct -Sign- form arose again that Jiren stopped his meditation to observe his foe's fight. During the rampage of Anilaza, Jiren was the only one who could deflect the giant foe's blasts unaided, using his Power Impact. Also, the debris launched by Anilaza was calmly repelled by Jiren's sheer energy.

In the manga, when only Team 7 and 11 remained, Jiren again faced Goku. Despite Goku intensifying his Perfected Blue power to initially pressure Jiren, the Pride Trooper quickly overwhelmed Goku, mocking Goku for his reckless attempt to match Jiren's might. Afterwards, Master Roshi decided to fight the ace of Universe 11. Despite the overwhelming raw might in Jiren's favor, Roshi's absolute efficiency in natural movement let him skillfully dodge all of Jiren's attacks for a period. This impressed Jiren and all spectators alike, even causing Beerus to wonder if Roshi has stumbled onto Ultra Instinct. Ultimately however, the power gap between them proved too much, as Roshi was finally struck and knocked out of the arena to be eliminated. Taking to heart Roshi's example, Goku momentarily unlocked Ultra Instinct -Sign-, impressing Jiren from how effortlessly Goku dodged his assault. When Vegeta evolved his Super Saiyan Blue power to bold new levels, actually managing to pressure Jiren, the Pride Trooper openly acknowledged the Saiyan prince. To which, Jiren quickly increased his power further to decimate Vegeta, requiring Goku to save him via Instant Transmission. When Top and Dyspo were about to fall out of the arena, Jiren chose to let him, convinced that he could win the tournament alone, noting that the fights he has been having bored him. His attitude quickly changed to joy when Goku once again used Ultra Instinct -Sign-, deciding to unleash his full power.

In the anime, during the final confrontation against Team Universe 7, while impressed with Super Saiyan Blue Goku's sudden growth, Jiren still proved to be fighting half-heartedly. Even when Vegeta joined the fight, Jiren was unfazed by Vegeta's attacks and easily beat Vegeta away while forcing back Goku without much effort. Vegeta noted that Jiren (before he even began using a hint of his true power) was stronger than anyone Vegeta had ever encountered. After Vegeta analyzed Jiren's attack patterns against Goku, Jiren was shocked by Vegeta avoiding his assault and hitting him back. From this, Vegeta began pushing Jiren back, getting through Jiren's defenses and landed solid blows. However, Vegeta noted that Jiren was showing much less strength than against Goku. To which, once Jiren got more serious, he quickly knocks Vegeta down to badly injure and exhaust him back into base form. After mocking Vegeta's pride, Jiren was hit by a supercharged Final Flash from Super Saiyan Blue Vegeta. While he was unable to block it and knocked to the ground hard, Jiren quickly emerged unharmed. He then noted that the force from the Final Flash wasn't half-bad and quickly delivers an energy attack that defeats Vegeta. When battling Goku again, Jiren could deflect Goku's Destructo Disc and even catch one with his bare hands. While he almost got eliminated by Goku's chain of surprise attacks, Jiren manages to save himself by methodically jumping off the various falling debris to return to the arena. After walking through all of Goku's explosions completely unfazed and uninjured and swiftly knocking him back, he proceeds to unleash a hint of his true power (Belmod noted that Jiren hadn't used that much power in a while), firing off a regular punch with such power that the shockwaves he generated stunned Goku back into his base form.

After Goku and Vegeta push their Super Saiyan Blue forms well past their limits, they both attacked Jiren together. While technically fighting together, they were in reality fighting individually, which actually worked to their advantage, as it threw Jiren off-balance and began pressuring him. Despite this disadvantage, which even made both Khai and Belmod nervous, Jiren still remained unfazed by their assault, emerging from the rubble, which he effortlessly vaporized, unscathed. As Jiren continued to gradually show more of his true power, Goku and Vegeta's combined assaults had no affect on him, as he repelled Vegeta's Final Flash with a mere glare, effortlessly broke free from Goku's hold, and soon afterwards left both Saiyans winded while he remained completely relaxed. As the fight continued, the very shockwaves of his attacks began overwhelming God of Destruction Mode Top.

After Top was eliminated, Jiren finally unleashes his true power. With his true power, his ki was so intense and strong that it left the likes of Goku and Android 17 astonished and Tien, upon seeing Jiren's massive power, was so amazed by it that he doubted that even together, Goku, Vegeta, and Android 17 could stand up to him. With his true power unleashed, he was able to dominate Goku, Vegeta, and Android 17 simultaneously with minimal difficulty. This is evident where he was able to successfully block and counter almost all of their attacks and completely shrug them off. His energy is also so intense to the point where he was able to not only pierce through a Kamehameha, with a simple energy beam from his fist, but he also could use it as shield to defend himself from a three-way beam attack from the Universe 7 fighters, before he releases it in an omni-directional attack, which heavily injures both Goku and Vegeta to the point of sheer exhaustion. Jiren was also able to effortlessly defend himself from the enraged Final Form Frieza and easily kick him away to a rock. He then easily overpowered him in his True Golden form, with nothing but a glare and two punches, knocking him out with the second punch. However, despite his incredible power, Jiren was actually injured, albeit slightly, when 17 stealthily appeared behind him and fired a massively powerful blast against his back. Goku in this moment finally saw Jiren's weakness - when unguarded, Jiren takes considerable damage from hits, more then he usually should. Ultimately, however, Jiren's power proved too much for Android 17, as he was able to easily dispel another beam attack from the latter, despite being engulfed in the said beam, and also effortlessly plowed through a multitude of barriers, forcing Android 17 to self-destruct to stop Jiren's attack. After Android 17's death, Jiren effortlessly overpowered and badly wounded base Vegeta, ultimately knocking him out. He also easily fended off Goku in Super Saiyan Blue even with it's power augmented by Vegeta's energy and even reverted him back to his base form with a single punch. Jiren then effortlessly pummeled base Goku to the point of making Goku's vision blurry and Goku barely remaining on the stage, and deflected a Ki Blast from Goku easily.

However, when Goku reawakens Ultra Instinct -Sign-, Jiren initially was incapable of seeing Goku move and was unable to land a hit on him. Ultra Instinct -Sign- Goku was even able to calmly land a blow on Jiren's stomach that actually caused Jiren to reel in pain. Although, while visibly hurt by the punch, Jiren was quick to recover from the brief pain he felt from the attack and began powering up to face Ultra Instinct -Sign- Goku one last time. While at first fighting evenly with Ultra Instinct -Sign- Goku, Jiren began to gain an advantage as he has analysed Goku's moves in their first bout and when he fought Kefla, thus he was easily able to block Goku's Imperfect Instinct Kamehameha and counter attack with a tremendous Power Impact that not even Ultra Instinct - Sign- Goku could dodge; although he was able to defend himself with his Kamehameha. In the second phase of their battle, Jiren and Ultra Instinct -Sign- Goku were once again evenly matched, neither one besting the other until Goku was beginning to get accustomed to the Ultra Instinct -Sign- form thereby gradually pressuring Jiren. Jiren then began to overwhelm the Saiyan by releasing a hailstorm of Invisible Strikes from above forcing Ultra Instinct -Sign- Goku on the defensive. However, despite the ferocity of Jiren's assault, Goku was able to repel Jiren's attacks while counterattacking at the same time, heavily damaging Jiren in the process. After witnessing Goku nearing completion of Ultra Instinct, Jiren responds by releasing his full power resulting in a vast and fiery aura that dwarfs the entire arena; Khai even exclaimed that the intense pressure from Jiren's ki would crush them. However, once Goku has reached the completion of Ultra Instinct, Jiren's Power Impact, which was charged at maximum power, is easily crushed. Jiren is then easily beaten down away by Ultra Instinct Goku as he was unable to completely register his attacks or movements.

As their fight continued, Jiren was at first unable to register Ultra Instinct Goku's intense speed and movement, having been cut on the cheek without him first realizing it. Despite this, Jiren still managed to relatively keep up with Ultra Instinct Goku, but was completely outclassed, unable to keep up with Goku's speed and match him blow for blow. However, once Jiren's fear of losing rose, he remembered his past when his parents were murdered and how strength was absolute, helping him to become unquestionably the strongest, Jiren's hidden potential was unlocked, causing him to break through his previous limits, unleashing a storm of power that sets the entire arena ablaze with his ki. Having broken his previous limits, Jiren experienced an enormous increase in power, magnifying his ki drastically. Jiren, with his newfound might, was able to clash and go toe to toe with Ultra Instinct Goku, fighting on par with the Saiyan, even gaining a slight advantage. Jiren possesses greater raw power than Ultra Instinct Goku in this state, able to overpower Goku's full-power Kamehameha with his own fully-charged Power Impact, and knock him to the ground with another Power Impact. However, once Jiren attempted to attack Team Universe 7 in the spectators' stands, Goku's fury exploded, allowing the latter to once again dominate Jiren in their fight, albeit Jiren managed to block and dodge most of Goku's blows. Jiren proved to be no match for the angered Saiyan, whose speed had increased to the point where he was able to dodge all of Jiren's blows and even manage to bypass and dodge a flurry of Power Impacts shaped into streams of energy. Jiren was then uppercutted hard enough that he was briefly dazed, though he quickly managed to recover.

Despite overpowering it before, Jiren was unable to deflect Ultra Instinct Goku's Supreme Kamehameha at point-blank range, though he did manage to withstand it; albeit he was severely injured and weakened, causing the mighty Pride Trooper to admit defeat. Even exhausted and battered, Jiren proved to be able to effortlessly blast Goku out of the arena once Ultra Instinct took a toll on his body. Now having reverted to his base level of power due to his battle with Goku, the tired Golden Frieza proved to be able to match him in battle. Frieza claimed that Jiren's overwhelming strength from earlier was gone, though Jiren claimed he had not gotten weaker. He survived being engulfed in a powerful attack from Android 17, but was still heavily injured, and fell to his knees. Upon hearing Top's words of encouragement, Jiren managed to stand back up, with his energy flaring to enormous levels and going back into his Full Power state. This energy proved so intense that the combined effort of the fully-powered Golden Frieza and Android 17 barely managed to hold the attack back. When Goku arrived to aid them after Frieza reverted to final form, the trio managed to negate Jiren's attack even after he utilized his hidden power once more. Jiren then fights both Goku and Final Form Frieza at the same time, able to endure an exchange of blows and landing on the respective enemy. Ultimately, Jiren is overwhelmed by the combined might of both Goku and Frieza - who had gone well beyond their limits, leading to a stalemate of a group elimination. Despite his defeat, all of Team Universe 11 applauded Jiren's performance and Goku voiced his great hope to face Jiren again, believing it was only thanks to him that Team Universe 7 improved like they did during the tournament.

In the manga, Jiren began to be pressured by Vegeta - who had attained an enhanced state of Perfected Super Saiyan Blue, however upon releasing more of his power easily took down Vegeta. Soon after he was attacked by the non-fully-powered Golden Frieza, who briefly held his own against Jiren before being outmatched and requiring Android 17's help. Android 17 then self-destructed in an attempt to eliminate Jiren - however, Jiren took no damage from his attack. Upon seeing Goku re-attain Ultra Instinct -Sign-, Jiren powers up even more. Initially, Ultra Instinct -Sign- Goku was able to topple Jiren, easily evading all of Jirens attacks. Once Jiren regained himself, he forced Goku on the defense completely, ultimately forcing Goku to delve deeper into his newfound power and perfect it. Ultra Instinct Goku began easily overpowering Jiren, landing several critical blows on Jiren, but his stamina and raw tenacity allowed Jiren to hold on, gradually adjusting to Goku's new might until he could keep pace long enough for Goku's time limit in Ultra Instinct form to end. Afterwards, his endurance tactics left him in an exhausted and battered state. Still, he showed tremendous energy, forcing Goku and Vegeta to team up, something that Vegeta would normally refrain from at all cost, and managed to remain somewhat unscathed by Goku's Kamehameha and Vegeta's Gamma Burst Flash, with only his shirt being vaporized. He was also able to catch and redirect Frieza's Death Ball while he was restrained by Goku. However, he wasn't strong enough to break free of Goku's Full-Nelson, and he was helpless when Golden Frieza tackled him, knocking Jiren, Goku, and Frieza all off the ring.

Dragon Ball Heroes

In the anime, when the Core Area Warriors attacked Universe 11, Jiren and Top were the first to engage the foes. While the ancient Saiyan Cunber effortlessly defeated Top in base form, Jiren quickly pressured Cunber into accessing Super Saiyan 3 Full Power, still holding an advantage against Cunber. This prompted Hearts to interfere, momentarily restraining Jiren with his powers before letting his allies aid Cunber. Against the three-on-one assault of Oren Vegeta, Kamin, and Fused Zamasu, Jiren still calmly fought evenly against the foes.

During the final battle against Hearts, Jiren (not using his Full Power) was overwhelmed by the Core Area Warrior's Ultimate Godslayer form along with Hit and the rest of the gathered Z Fighters. With him and Hit on either side of Gogeta, their combined attacks were capable of overwhelming Hearts's God Meteor.

In the manga, Jiren is able to easily defeat Ultimate Kamioren - causing them to defuse back into Kamin and Oren. It is noted by Fu that Cunber has no chance of winning against Jiren. Jiren also had the advantage on Super Hearts, being able of destroying Hearts' gravity cages with ease and of overpowering him before Hearts absorbed the Universe Seed.

Using his Super Full Power, Jiren proves able to hold back Ultimate Godslayer Hearts' God Meteor long enough for Goku and Vegeta to fuse together.

Abilities

  • Flight - The ability to take flight through the manipulation of ki. Combined with his ability to survive the vacuum of space and his tremendous speed, Jiren's flight leaves any spaceship useless to travel from one planet to another.
  • Ki Blast - The most basic form of energy attacks.
  • Ki Sense - The ability to sense ki and power levels.
    • Godly ki sense - The ability to sense ki and power levels of deities.
  • Kiai - A burst of ki used to repel targets. In the manga, Jiren's usage of this was strong enough to effortless repel Perfected Super Saiyan Blue Goku.
  • Power Impact - Jiren's signature move, Jiren fires a red-orange ki blast in the form of a fireball. It starts out relatively small but expands massively upon impact. He used this attack to stop Kale's rampage and several times throughout the Tournament of Power. While powered up greatly he can fire it like a normal ki blast but then it increases in size massively.
    • Counter Impact - After successfully blocking an opponent's attack, Jiren teleports to his distracted opponent and surrounds them within a sphere of ki, electrifying them before it detonates.
    • Colossal Slash - Jiren gathers ki in both hands and combines them into a single powerful sphere and lifts it above his head before launching it at the opponent.
    • Overheat Magnetron - Jiren charges at the opponent with a barrage of punches and blasts them away with a Power Impact. He then appears behind them and lands more punches, sending the opponent crashing into the ground. When at his full power, Jiren charges another Power Impact in the form of a massive energy sphere.
      • Heatwave Magnetron - Jiren powers up and blasts the opponent away with a Energy Punch. He then charges a Power Impact surrounded by purple sparks in his left hand and fires it into an energy wave with his right hand. In the anime it is only utilized after Jiren has awakened his hidden power.
  • Meditation - A super skill in Xenoverse 2. After meditating for a few seconds, it sets the user's ki at 1000 (10 bars) and grants them automatic ki regeneration.
  • Energy Punch - Jiren charges his fists with red ki and launches powerful punches. These are simply Jiren's normal punches when he is displaying a hint of his true power. These punches are also strong enough to eradicate Goku's Kamehameha even when the latter is in Super Saiyan Blue Kaio-ken.
    • Power Rush - Jiren charges at the opponent and delivers a rapid flurry of punches and kicks before sending them flying with a powerful punch.
    • Blazing Magnetron - Jiren generates a volcanic explosion, then charges his fist with massive energy and delivers a punch that triggers a massive explosion.
  • Energy Barrier - Jiren's ki is powerful enough to serve as a barrier against considerably weaker attacks. Upon releasing his full power, this barrier became more powerful to where it is able to shield Jiren from the likes of Goku's Kamehameha, Vegeta's Final Flash, and an energy beam from Android 17 simultaneously.
  • Invisible Eye Blast - Jiren's ki is so intense, that even by releasing it through his glare, he can unleash a force blast able to repel all but the strongest of enemy attacks. With it, he was able to fight back Goku's Universe 7's Spirit Bomb, block Golden Frieza's murderous assault, and even disperse Super Saiyan God SS Evolved Vegeta's Final Flash.
  • Infinity Rush - Jiren is capable of moving at extreme speeds, which allows him to launch a barrage of powerful punches in an instant. He can also use this attack by simply glaring at his opponent. When he does this, Jiren moves so fast that from other's perspectives, he doesn't seem to be moving at all.
  • Shock Tornado - A counterattack which Jiren grabs the opponent's hands, after catching their punch, and then twists them, spinning them in midair.
  • Colossal Uppercut - Jiren charges his fist with powerful energy, then delivers a mighty uppercut. Used to deflect Goku's Kamehameha.
  • Grand Charge - Jiren charges at the opponent with his shoulder.
  • Harmonic Kamehameha - A team attack used with Gogeta and Hit, where Jiren and the latter contribute energy to Gogeta's Ultimate Kamehameha to drastically increase its power.
  • Pure Progress - In the manga, Jiren is shown even more dangerous once he is forced onto the defense. Through sheer determination and his immeasurable potential, he is able to improve his performance - letting him better adapt to his opponent's abilities - in short periods of time, allowing him to rapidly increase his reaction time and combat efficiency while fighting Ultra Instinct Goku.
  • Vacuum Survival - In the manga, Jiren is able to survive in the vacuum of space as he proved able to travel through the vastness of space from one planet to another, finding it the quickest way to continue his duties.
  • Power Up - Jiren has the ability to increase his combat abilities by focusing his ki. His control over it is also remarkably high, able to summon tremendous amounts instantly and with no visible effort. Once unleashing the true force of his power, Jiren's body admits a red aura that takes on a texture similar to that of fire and an additional layer, appearing as if he is literally burning with a double aura.

Burning Ultimate Warrior Jiren

In the anime, as Ultra Instinct Goku continued to overwhelm Full Power Jiren and defeat became apparent for him, Jiren's disdain for it (from the memories of his past trauma), let him awaken a much deeper level of his dormant potential and become the "Burning Ultimate Warrior".[12] Breaking well-beyond his previous limits, Jiren unleashed a newfound power so intense, the very release of it caused the top portion of his Pride Trooper uniform to be blasted off, and set the tournament ring ablaze with fiery ki. The release of his unthinkably colossal ki was unbelievably intense, that the World of Void was violently shanking as his fiery ki was scorching the everything around him in intense heat akin to an active volcano. He gains an increase in muscle mass. When unleashing his aura, it appears a red sparkling aura similar to Goku's Ultra Instinct and it also causes veins around his body to bulge out. This state is referred to as "Full Power" in Dragon Ball Carddass.[13]

In this state, Jiren was capable of going toe-to-toe with Ultra Instinct Goku, gaining enough power to bypass the instantaneous defense impulse of Ultra Instinct and even initially overwhelming Goku in raw power.[14] While originally only accessed through his disdain at the thought losing and disappeared when he lost the will to fight, the words of encouragement from Top as he neared defeat against Golden Frieza and Android 17 allowed Jiren him to overcome the trauma of his past and consciously access his hidden power as result.

Jiren, with his hidden potential unleashed, stands as a true equal to Goku in his Mastered Ultra Instinct. Goku and Jiren are two of the absolute strongest and mightiest mortal warriors in the Multiverse.

In the manga, Jiren possesses a device on his wrist, which he can use to shrink his opponents into capsules in order to capture them.

Trivia

  • Jiren was meant to have a more outspoken personality, according to Toei Animation. However, this idea was rejected by Akira Toriyama, who stated Jiren was a quiet individual with a tragic backstory. Jiren's planned personality was given to Top. Though this original personality is later used for Jiren in Xenoverse 2.
  • Jiren was originally set to debut in episode 78, and appeared in the initial preview for it. However, he was replaced by fellow Pride Trooper Top in the final version. He was also meant to fight Goku in episode 82, and the statement of him fighting Goku was accidentally kept in the episode synopsis.
  • Jiren's name appears to come from the word renji, Japanese for stove.
  • There appears to be an inconsistency with Jiren's height, as in some scenes, he is shorter than Top, while in other scenes, the two are of similar height. Similiarly, some scenes shown him slightly taller than Goku, while others, Jiren is standing much taller than Goku.
  • Jiren is the second person to repel the Spirit Bomb, the first being Kid Buu.
    • However, Jiren is the first and only person to ever successfully deflect the Spirit Bomb back at Goku.
    • He is also the third person to survive the Spirit Bomb, the first being Vegeta, and the second being Frieza.
    • He is also the only person who voluntarily waited for the Spirit Bomb to fully charge. Every other victim of it either tried to interrupt it, or didn't know until it was too late.
  • Jiren's first fight with Goku is similar to that of Frieza:
    • He was clearly superior to Goku, even with a X20 Kaio-ken, not fighting seriously.
    • Goku used the Spirit Bomb as a last resort, failing. However, unlike Frieza, Jiren was completely unscathed.
    • After the failed Spirit Bomb, Goku "awakened" a new and unusual form never seen before, resulting from some events shown before (Super Saiyan with emotional turmoil after Frieza killed Krillin and Ultra Instinct -Sign- with the constant training with Whis).
  • Jiren's fight against Vegeta shared similarities to Cell: When Vegeta used his Final Flash, he goaded Jiren to take the blast head-on which, he charged-up to extreme levels that left him exhausted. Afterwards, Jiren was seemingly defeated, leaving Vegeta to laugh in victory before swiftly being proven wrong and defeated.
  • Jiren is the only member of Team Universe 11 to have eliminated someone in the Tournament of Power and in the anime is also the only fighter outside of Team Universes 6 and 7 to have eliminated more than one opponent, with three eliminations.
