High Strike is a sword slash attack used by Future Trunks, most notably to slice the tyrannical Mecha Frieza in two during the Trunks Saga.

Overview[]

The High Strike, as its name suggests, is a falling downward slash with Future Trunks' sword, capable of bisecting opponents with ease. It is used as the first part of the Shining Sword Attack, Full Charge Burning Slash, Lightning Sword Slash, and Garlic Buster.

Usage[]

Super Saiyan Future Trunks uses it as the opening slash of Shining Sword Attack to cut Mecha Frieza in half, and again when testing Super Saiyan Goku, though he blocked the final attack with a single finger.

During the "Future" Trunks Saga, he once again attempted to defeat Super Saiyan 3 Goku with it, referring to it as his strongest move, but was once again thwarted by Goku blocking with his fingers.

Ackman also uses a similar move to cut a Martian in half.

Film Appearances[]

In Dragon Ball Z: Super Android 13!, Future Trunks uses it as the opening slash of Lightning Sword Slash against Android 14.

Variations[]

  • Neo Shining Sword Attack (シャイニングソードアタックカイ Shainingu Sōdo Atakku Kai), where it is a stronger variation of the High Strike used by Future Trunks in Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot.
    • Super Shining Sword Attack (スーパーシャイニングソードアタック Sūpā Shainingu Sōdo Atakku) an even stronger version in Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot where, Future Trunks dashes against his opponent and sends a final slash, causing a blue explosion and inflicting even more damage.
  • Dirty Slash – King Cold's variant of the High Strike, unlike Trunks' version, the user does not leap into the air before slashing down.
  • Shining Slash - Trunks' variant in Dragon Ball Z: Wrath of the Dragon.
  • Saibaiman Assault - A team attack used by the Saibamen team as their Super Attack in Dokkan Battle as part of the SaiBai Battle April Fool's 2017. Starts off with a Kamehameha, then the two Saibamen playing the role of Vegeta and Gohan attack the opponent from both sides, before the Saibaman (Swordsman) playing the role of Future Trunks attacks with a brief sword rush ending with High Strike, knocking the opponent to the ground before several Saibamen drop down on them while using Saibamen Bomb.

Video Game Appearances[]

The High Strike was named in the Dragon Ball Z Collectible Card Game, where it is one of Future Trunks' techniques.

It also appears in the Saturn version of Dragon Ball Z: The Legend, under the name Trunks Sword (トランクスソード Torankusu Sōdo).

Future Trunks using Shining Slash in Xenoverse

In Dragon Ball Xenoverse, it appears under the name Shining Slash as one of Future Trunks' Super Skills. It can also be obtained by the Future Warrior as a reward in Parallel Quest 24: "Power Teams". It is one of two sword-based techniques (the other being Burning Slash) used by the Future Warrior and Future Trunks in the game. It can only be used by the Future Warrior if their selected race is either an Earthling or a Saiyan.

"Slash with a sword! Chargeable. Charge, and you'll move right to your enemy."
Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 Skill description

In Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2, Shining Slash returns as one of Future Trunks' Super Skills which can be obtained by the Future Warrior as a reward in Parallel Quest 38: "Power Teams". Like in Xenoverse, it can only be used by the Future Warrior if they are either an Earthling or Saiyan. Interestingly, it is obtained in exactly the same Parallel Quest that was in Xenoverse (the only difference between the two games is the Parallel Quest number listings). As part of the 1.15.00 Update DLC, it can be added to Tapion's custom skillset after purchasing it in Partner Customization.

DBXV2 Legendary Pack 2 DLC Bardock sees a vision of Future Trunks fighting Mecha Frieza in Age 764 (Extra Mission 06 - ''Alternate History Antics'' cutscene)

Bardock's vision of Future Trunks performing Shining Slash on Mecha Frieza in Xenoverse 2

As part of the Legendary Pack 2 DLC in Extra Mission 06: "Alternate History Antics", when Time Patrol Future Trunks attempts to talk Bardock down after Fu interferes with the events of the Genocide of the Saiyans in another altered version of the official timeline of Age 737, Bardock receives as future sight vision of Super Saiyan Future Trunks performing Shining Slash on Mecha Frieza with his sword in Age 764. However, this vision is interrupted by another of 1st Form Frieza attacking Future Trunks from behind with a Death Beam as he is trying to talk Bardock down, which pierces through him and into Bardock, causing both to fall into the Supernova destroying Planet Vegeta which Bardock had dodged thanks to Fu's Wormhole. Fortunately, Bardock recognizing Future Trunks will one day avenge the Saiyans decides to sacrifice himself to ensure that Future plays out and pushes Future Trunks aside, resulting in Frieza only hitting Bardock who falls to the Supernova below, while telling Future Trunks to avenge the Saiyans (failing to recognize Future Trunks has already experienced that event). While Frieza's evil actions infuriate and disgust both Future Trunks and even Fu, Future Trunks avoids the temptation of taking it out on Frieza as unfortunately Bardock and Planet Vegeta's demise was a part of the official history which had been corrected due to Bardock's decision to leave Frieza's historical defeat up to Future Trunks.

In Super Dragon Ball Heroes: World Mission, in addition to High Strike being used as part of Burning Slash, it is also a part of Super Saiyan 3 Trunks (Xeno)'s Full Charge Burning Slash (which is confusingly localized as Full Charge Burning Attack like his variation of Burning Attack from Dragon Ball Heroes). Additionally Dirty Slash appears as King Cold's Super Attack. Xeno Trunks performs the technique as part of a team attack with the Warriors of Light (a team of Time Patrol members consisting of Supreme Kai of Time, Xeno Trunks, Xeno Vegeta, Xeno Goku, & Xeno Gohan) after being summoned from Subspace via certain CAA Super Ability Subspace Summon X special abilities like Dimensional Guardian X or Holy Guardian X. After Chronoa's Temporal Judgment bombards the enemy with bolts of energy, Xeno Trunks, Xeno Vegeta, & Xeno Gohan charge towards the enemy with Xeno Vegeta & Xeno Gohan delivering a double dashing punch followed up by Xeno Trunks' High Strike, which is followed by Xeno Goku launching a Spirit Bomb at the enemy as the finisher.
