The High School Saga (ハイスクール編 Haisukūru Hen, lit. "High School Arc")[1] is the prequel to the events of the Super Hero Saga[2] as well as the seventh main saga of the Dragon Ball Super manga, starting by depicting prelude events that initially start by taking place at least four months[3] before those in the film.

New Superheroes[]
Saiyaman X-1 and Saiyaman X-2
Trunks and Goten, now teenagers and attending high school, take on the role of local superheroes known as Saiyaman X-1 and Saiyaman X-2. After stopping a couple of daytime robbers in Mosquito Town, Trunks decides to ask Pilaf to create a transformation watch like what Gohan used to have. The following day, after Trunks puts in his request to Pilaf he takes off to Blue Hal High School. After class he speaks with his friends Rulah, Kompas, and Skale who inform him of a rumor of ghosts making an appearance in an abandoned mansion on Butterfly Mountain. They ask him if he wants to check it out with them after school as a dare, but Trunks blows them off as he is secretly unnerved by spooky things.
After school, Trunks finds Mai and asks if she wants to go and see a movie together, but she cannot as she is busy at work repairing malfunctioned Helper Bots. Shu tells Trunks of another rumor that during the nighttime, strange people appear to tamper with the Helper Bots. Figuring that if he were to catch the ones responsible and thus Mai would be able to take the night off, Trunks informs Goten of their new mission.
At night, the two walk around when Trunks runs into the creepy Alpha Series Android and darts off, accidentally breaking his transformation watch in the process. An elderly man walks by with his Helper Bot when it begins to malfunction and believing the creep to be responsible, they tail him back to a mansion.
Trunks punches Alpha 12
The two sneak up to the mansion where they see the strange Alpha Series working the Helper Bots. One of the spooks notices Trunks' trio of school friends and when he threatens to beat them, Trunks borrows Goten's transformation watch and confronts them, taking them and the assisting Helper Bots down with ease. In the middle of Trunks' next attack, the watch suddenly malfunctions, and his identity is briefly revealed to his friends before Goten quickly takes out the lights and takes his friends outside. Trunks meanwhile transforms into a Super Saiyan to light up the darkened room before taking down Alpha 12 with a single punch.
Investigating further, Trunks finds a safe containing a data disc created by Dr. Gero and takes it with him. As they make their way out of the mansion they run into Krillin, doing an investigation of his own. Back at the mansion, Dr. Hedo returns only to find his Alpha Series defeated and his data disc stolen but is informed that the one responsible belongs to the Blue Hal High School. The next day, Trunks asks Mai once again if she can go to the movies with him but is devastated to hear that she cannot as she is now stuck fixing the very same Helper Bots that Trunks destroyed.

At home, Trunks uses his mother's computer to try and view the contents of the data disc and see blueprints for a strange creature briefly before a computer virus takes over. His mother enters and tells Trunks that he will be heading to school together with Mai who has been enrolled into high school to avoid suspicion. At school, Mai introduces herself to the class followed by a boy named Baytah. Throughout the day Mai keeps a close eye on Baytah much to Trunks' annoyance. After a stunning display of speed is captured by Baytah during basketball, secretly an android called Beta 1, his creator Dr. Hedo believes that Trunks may be the one responsible for defeating his Alpha Series and stealing his disc and orders Beta 1 to hunt the culprit down.
During class, Mai points out to Trunks that Baytah is really an android and must be looking for someone at the school. Not wanting his identity to be revealed as Saiyaman X-1, Trunks avoids a number of Beta 1's "accidents" that act as attempts to expose him. After school, Goten nonchalantly lifts a truck with one arm while grabbing a soft ball leading Beta 1 and Dr. Hedo to believe he must be the culprit.
Beta 1 attacks Goten
Beta 1 reveals a superhero costume of his own and attacks Goten as he demands that he return the data disc. Trunks hands Mai his school bag as he runs off into the school to undergo his transformation as Saiyaman X-1 before taking over the confrontation with Beta 1 from Goten. Despite being a more powerful android, he still proves to be no match for Trunks who tosses him onto the school field out of harms way of the other students. As a result, Beta 1 presses a button on his belt that causes a Battle Jacket to appear. After Trunks knocks the Battle Jacket down, Mai stumbles and drops her bags with the data disc being revealed to be inside.
Dr. Hedo orders Beta 1 to catch the girl and fires off a barrage off missiles to distract Trunks. Thankfully all the missiles are countered by Goten now as Saiyaman X-2. The top half of the Battle Jacket detaches itself leaving its bottom half, Beta 2, behind. Goten makes quick work of Beta 2 while Trunks shatters the Battle Jacket surrounding Beta 1 before catching Mai who recalls fond memories of Future Trunks from several years ago after seeing her savior up close. Back at Dr. Hedo's lab, despite yet another loss, the scientist is enamoured by the awesome hero costumes of Saiyaman X-1 and X-2 and vows to begin work on his next set of androids.
Saiyaman X-2 takes on Beta 7
Sometime afterwards, Goten heads to school on the bus when it suddenly comes to a screeching halt due to the appearance of Beta 7. Beta 7 calls out Goten, knowing his alter ego to be Saiyaman X-2. Goten proceeds to exit through the back of the bus before returning in costume and effortlessly takes down the android. At school, Mai asks Trunks to the upcoming school dance, much to his surprise and learns from one of his friends that he has booked the superhero Cleangod for it. Using a tiny insect spybot, Dr. Hedo overhears the news and becomes elated, quickly deciding to create a female student android as a date so that he can attend the dance himself and meet his hero. An observant Mai soon notices the spybot and pulls Goten to one side and informs him of what she knows about Dr. Hedo and the androids that are being sent after him as well as the plan to lure him out using Cleangod so that she can capture him herself.

Once the dance begins, Trunks hands one of the attendants a bag to hold on to containing the data disc belonging to Dr. Hedo and makes his way to the stage as he awaits the appearance of Cleangod. Next to Trunks, stands Dr. Hedo, another eager fan, and they briefly share their love for the superhero just as Mai pulls out a weapon on the doctor but is halted by Beta 1 who takes it from her. Krillin and the police then arrive, having been tipped off by Mai and orders everyone to freeze but Dr. Hedo manages to escape and races off in a vehicle while Beta 1 is able to regain the data disc after stealing the guests' bags.
Goten and Trunks take down Dinodroid 1
Krillin, Goten and Trunks take off after the scientist by air with the teenagers now donning their superhero costume. After Krillin explains to them that Dr. Hedo is the grandson of Dr. Gero and learn that the infamous Red Ribbon Army is after him, the trio catch up to him at another of his secret labs. There, Dr. Hedo releases Dinodroid 1, an android that far surpasses that Alpha and Beta series of androids. Working together, Krillin is able to stun the android with a Destructo Disc to the back of the neck long enough for Goten and Trunks to finish him off after turning Super Saiyan and using the Cyclone Style! Tornado Double Hurricane technique. Krillin then arrests Dr. Hedo but is unable to find the data disc as he has since discarded it, no longer needing it as he had long since memorised its data anyway. The doctor is then sent to prison for three months for his crimes but nevertheless he remains optimistic vowing to create the ultimate android.

Trivia[]
- This saga's existence was first revealed by Victory Uchida at Jump Festa in December 2021 and reconfirmed in the Weekly Dragon Ball News in January 2022.[4][5]
- The events of "The Birth of Saiyaman X" were written out by Akira Toriyama as the initial portion of this arc, however due to the High School Saga having been fixed at a max of 3 chapters Toyotarou had to put off implementing it until much later.[6]
