A Grenade (砲弾 Hōdan) is a hand-held explosive weapon that can be thrown and is triggered by the pull of a pin.

Mercenary Tao using a grenade

In Dragon Ball, Mercenary Tao attempts to kill both Goku and Upa by throwing a grenade at them. Once it is thrown, Tao quickly jumps into the air to avoid the explosion, but Goku kicks it back up into the air, and it explodes almost directly in front of Tao.

Mr. Satan also tried to use grenades and other explosives disguised as a video game in an attempt to defeat Majin Buu, but they all failed to kill or even faze him (in fact Buu enjoyed them).

Grenades are also presumably used by Earth's Military, as well as the Red Ribbon Army (as seen in Dragon Ball: Origins 2).

Film Appearances[]

In Dragon Ball: Curse of the Blood Rubies, Pasta of the Gurumes Army uses grenades based on real world WW1 Stielhandgranate (Stick hand Grenade) used by the German Empire.

Video Game Appearances[]

In video games, grenades are most often used by Mr. Satan.

In Dragon Ball Z: Ultimate Battle 22 and Dragon Ball Z: Shin Butōden, as he cannot use Ki Blasts, Mr. Satan instead throws grenades. In the Budokai Tenkaichi series, both Mercenary Tao and Mr. Satan grenades as a charged-ki attacks (Mr. Satan's still uses them in place of ki blasts).

As a support-type character in Dragon Ball Z: Supersonic Warriors 2, Mr. Satan throws volley of grenades at the fighter's opponent.

In Super Dragon Ball Z, Cyborg Frieza uses grenades that are attached to his waist and is also able to fire more powerful ones out of his rocket launcher.

In Dragon Ball Z: Attack of the Saiyans, RR Deserters use grenades.

DB Legends Launch (DBL31-05S) Win (Victory Cutscene - Bad Launch too hot to handle)

Launch (DBL31-05S) victory cutscene featuring her holding a grenade and her IMI Uzi in Dragon Ball Legends

In Dragon Ball Z: Dokkan Battle, Pasta uses her Stick Grenade as the finisher for her Beam Machine Gun Super Attack. Future Mai uses Flash Grenade as a Super Attack and to blind the opponent as part of her & Future Trunks' All-Out Counterattack team super attack. Mr. Satan uses a Grenade as part of his Present Bomb Super Attack. During Present Bomb, Mr. Satan throws a classic pineapple style Grenade at the opponent who avoids the explosion using Rapid Movement and tries to sneak attack Mr. Satan from behind as he posed victoriously but Majin Buu intervenes to protect his friend.

In Dragon Ball Legends, Launch (DBL31-05S) has a special Win victory cutscene where instead of sneezing and reverting to blue-haired Launch, she will remain in her blonde-haired state and brandish a brown pineapple style grenade in her right hand while holding her IMI Uzi in her left. This cutscene triggers rarely, usually after Launch has won a tough battle (usually after her teammates have been KOd).
