The Great Saiyaman Watch[6] (変身用腕時計 Henshin-yō Udedokei)[1] is a device used to instantly change into the Great Saiyaman Suit.
Overview[]
Bulma designs both the watch and the costume within only two hours of Gohan's request. He wants it to help fight crime in Satan City while still keeping his identity a secret. Videl later acquires her own watch to turn into Saiyawoman (or Saiyaman II) to fight alongside Gohan.
Variations[]
- Saiyaman X Watch - A device built by Emperor Pilaf.
- Hero Switch - A bracelet-like device built by Leggings and Xeno Trunks in Super Dragon Ball Heroes: World Mission.
Video Game Appearances[]
The watch appears in video games when the Great Saiyaman appears in them.
In Dragon Ball Z: Buu's Fury, during certain parts of Chapter 2, Gohan will activate the Great Saiyaman watch after he receives it from Bulma. While the player isn't actively able to use the transformation, it was programmed in the game's code with a dedicated icon. However, if used in conjunction with the Super Saiyan Skill, the game will crash, so it may have been unstable.
In Dragon Ball Z: Dokkan Battle, the New Hero of Satan City Gohan (Teen) card depicts Gohan wearing his Great Saiyaman Watch and in mid-battle the card can transform into New Hero of Satan City Great Saiyaman card. However, the card is currently exclusive to the Japanese version. The card representing Gohan (Teen) has a passive skill called Transformation Wristwatch that represents the watch as it allows Gohan to transform into the Great Saiyaman version of the New Hero of Satan City card.
In Dragon Ball Xenoverse, the Great Saiyaman Watch is worn over the top of the left-hand gloves worn by Great Saiyaman and Great Saiyaman 2. It also appears on the Future Warrior when they wear the Great Saiyaman Suit's hand option (males where the one worn by Gohan while females where the one worn by Videl). Its appearance in the game is purely cosmetic.
In Dragon Ball Fusions, Great Saiyaman 12 the EX-Fusion of Great Saiyaman 1 and Great Saiyaman 2 wears a Great Saiyaman watch on their wrist on the same arm they wear their Metamo-Ring. Ginyuman the EX-Fusion of Captain Ginyu and Great Saiyaman 1 also wears his version of the Great Saiyaman Watch over his suit's green wristbands. Great Jaco the EX-Fusion of Great Saiyaman 1 and Jaco wears his version over his gloves though its color matches the color of Great Jaco's cape. Great Satanman wears his version over his left glove though its color matches the color of Great Satanman's cape and has a blue screen.
In Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2, the Great Saiyaman Watch appears on the hand options for the Great Saiyaman Suit, Great Saiyaman, and Great Saiyaman 2 like in Xenoverse. Additionally, the Great Saiyaman Watch also appears as part of the hand options for the Hero Suits (Turtle, Crane, Demon, Ginyu Force, Red Ribbon Army, and CC) which are color customizable versions of the Great Saiyaman Suit with different kanji symbols and logos. The Great Saiyaman Watch worn as part of the Hero Suits are also color customizable. Like the watches appearance in Xenoverse, they are purely cosmetic.
In Dragon Ball Legends, the Character Illustration for Great Saiyaman 1 (DBL-EVT-05S) obtained in the "Legends Road: Justice" event features Gohan in the background holding up his Great Saiyaman Watch with the transformed Great Saiyaman 1 in the foreground.
In Super Dragon Ball Heroes: World Mission, Beat's Hero Switch serves the same function as the Great Saiyaman Watch as it allows Beat to transform into Great Saiyaman 4, with his suit manifesting when he uses the Hero Switch to acquire power to fight in the real world due to him idolizing Great Saiyaman 3. However, despite Note doing the same thing, she does not manifest a Great Saiyaman Suit due to her only looking up to Great Saiyaman 3 as a mentor rather than idolizing him.
Trivia[]
- The watch, as well as the suit it summons, is an homage to the transformation devices used in the Henshin (transforming) Hero genre of Tokusatsu. Famous entries in this genre are Kamen Rider and Super Sentai (and its American adaptation Power Rangers).
