Kid Gohan powering up against Raditz

Despite his lack of interest in competition and even less like of hurting people, Gohan is a prodigy whose innate talent and natural potential exceeds even his own father, therefore making Gohan one of the most powerful mortal warriors in Universe 7 and the multiverse as a whole. By age 10 (including the time spent in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber) Gohan's power and raw skill was on par with Goku and likewise eclipsed all his allies before unlocking an even greater power that surpassed Goku as well. Much of this seemingly stems from his hybrid heritage as since early childhood, Gohan has shown within him a seemingly limitless dormant power, which only revealed itself when experiencing extreme emotional stress, losing most of his cognitive thought in the process. The earliest occurrence of this hidden power was as an infant when he about to crash into a tree when his stroller was accidentally released, giving him enough power to plow clean through the trunk unscathed.[1] Even by normal Saiyan standards, Gohan's increase of might from fear or anger is exceptionally greater, able to compete against the strongest enemies. Various people have note that Gohan's potential is greater than what he knows himself. Even Old Kai, a Supreme Kai with the power to perceive and unlock one's hidden potential, was baffled by the sheer vastness of Gohan's inner capacities and struggled to release it.

As he got older and continued to train, he gradually became able to naturally access larger portions of his power while retaining conscious control of himself. It was not until he was a young adult could he fully access his true capacities at will. Even afterwards however, Gohan's potential growth was still seemingly limitless as he would still show a mighty increase in power from his rage or desire, as would regularly training to which, Gohan's natural growth rate is also remarkably high even by Saiyan standards. Despite originally retiring from fighting after getting married, which diminished his overall conditioning significantly, once he began training again, he quickly returned to peak performance and likewise with only his natural might he was able to compete against his foes of god-like levels. Both Goku and Vegeta agree that Gohan's potential exceeded either of theirs even after they both obtained Super Saiyan Blue.[2] Likewise, even after seeing Goku obtain Perfected Ultra Instinct, Piccolo openly believed Gohan could still surpass his father.[3]

Manga and Anime

Gohan unleashes his hidden power

At age 4, during the battle against Raditz, a scared Gohan showed a power level of 710, which surpassed the combined might of Goku and Piccolo at their fullest. When angered, Gohan rose to over 1,370 and seriously hurt his uncle in one headbutt, later also disintegrating and entire mountain with a single blast, before dropping back down to 1. After training with Piccolo for 6 months, Gohan became the third strongest fighter of the Z Fighters during the Saiyan invasion, reaching 2,800. When angered, he was able to hurt Nappa with his attacks and hold his own against Vegeta.

Later on, Namek, Gohan has his physical potential unlocked by Guru, comparable to Vegeta's power level back on Earth (18,000). Against Frieza's elite Ginyu Force, Gohan proved too powerful for Guldo in a direct battle. Against Recoome, the enemies were openly impressed with how well Gohan was holding his own, especially his power. Against Frieza, between his repeated healing in battle and his continuous rising anger, Gohan was able to briefly knock the tyrannical Frieza multiple times and even cause him some damage in his Third Form. In the anime, when Gohan became angered by his father's seeming death, he managed to hurt the tyrant in his Final Form, causing him to opt to return to 100% Full Power form to finish off Gohan, though Goku returns before this can occur.

3 years later, following training for the androids' arrival, he could knock away Android 20 with a sneak attack. After training under Goku in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber let him attain Super Saiyan form, master its power perfectly, he nearly matched his father's might. So unaware of his own growth, he was the only one not in awe of Goku and Perfect Cell's performance, believing his father to be holding back when in fact Goku wasn't. Once Gohan attains Super Saiyan 2, his power vastly exceeds all the other warriors present; he effortlessly killed each of the Cell Juniors, who playfully pummeled the Z Fighters, each with a single blow and likewise casually began torturing Perfect Cell into a battered mess. When Cell re-emerged in his Super Perfect state, despite losing access to his left arm (due to saving Vegeta) and his energy drained by half, Super Saiyan 2 Gohan managed to match Cell in the beam struggle, finally defeating Cell when he momentarily distracted by Vegeta's blast.

By the 25th World Martial Arts Tournament, due to lack of training, Gohan is weaker than he was during the Cell Games. His Super Saiyan 2 power provided half enough energy to revive Majin Buu. He could still compete against Dabura, though the foe said he could easily defeat Gohan if he wanted to. However, once Gohan unleashed Super Saiyan 2, Dabura chose to evade the young warrior's attack on Buu's cocoon. His effort ultimately proved useless as he was quickly defeated and nearly killed by Buu.

His Super Saiyan 2 might let him free the Z Sword and after training he could wield the Z Sword effortlessly in base form, which Kibito couldn't even budge off the ground. After freeing Old Kai from the Z Sword, Gohan has his potential unlocked by the Old Kai, vastly surpassing his previous limits without transforming. Trunks and Goten even admit that Ultimate Gohan is stronger than Super Saiyan 3 Gotenks, calmly beating Super Buu. Against Super Buu with Gotenks and Piccolo's absorbed might, Gohan proved able to still compete in raw power, holding his own for a period before being worn down by Majin Buu's superior combat skill and cunning of Piccolo.

In the God of Destruction Beerus Saga of Dragon Ball Super, Ultimate Gohan was nowhere near able to defeat Beerus, who nonchalantly knocked Gohan aside. By the Golden Frieza Saga, Gohan's lack of training for so long left him unable to utilize his full potential or even stay Super Saiyan for long. However, Tagoma noted that Gohan was still much stronger than Piccolo. When Ginyu takes Tagoma's body and unlocks its full power, Gohan compensates with Super Saiyan to knock Ginyu down with two blows. However, Super Saiyan Gohan proved no match for the strengthened First Form Frieza, who defeated him with casual Death Beams, although Gohan was caught off guard by Frieza's first finger beam and was relatively unable to defend himself from those that followed. After Piccolo is killed, Gohan summons enough power as a Super Saiyan for Goku to sense his ki from Beerus' Planet.

In the Universe 6 Saga, while selecting members of Beerus' team for his competition with Champa, Vegeta suggests that they place Gohan in their team, though he declines. During the "Future" Trunks Saga, when Future Trunks encounters Gohan, he notes that he could not sense the same power from him that he once could when he was a child. Later while battling Watagash, Gohan completely overwhelmed him when he possessed a bank robber. When Watagash possessed Barry Kahn, while initially overpowered in base form, once ready, Gohan effortlessly dominated him. When Watagash powered-up into a giant form, Gohan was quickly dominated and knocked out cold. Once recovering and using Super Saiyan, Gohan finally defeated Watagash. Later, in a sparring match Gohan proved himself able to fight on par with his father, both in base form and then as Super Saiyan, the latter of which Gohan was able to land some solid blows.

By the Universe Survival Saga, in the anime, while Gohan was much stronger than ever before, his fighting instincts were still rusty. During the Zeno Expo, he fought to a draw against Lavender, one of the three strongest fighters in Universe 9. Later, as Piccolo tried to reawaken Gohan's warriors' heart, initially, even with Super Saiyan 2, Gohan struggled to keep up with Piccolo's half-hearted assault while wearing his weighted clothing. Piccolo's guidance ultimately lets Gohan fully reawaken his true power and enter his Ultimate state. Upon doing so, Ultimate Gohan's base form quickly overwhelms Piccolo without his weights, although he still has a tendency to let his guard down. After completing training, Gohan tested his progress against his father. At base power, Ultimate Gohan he fought on par with base Goku and easily handled Tien. When fighting more seriously, Ultimate Gohan began to overpower Super Saiyan 2 Goku. Against Super Saiyan Blue Goku, Gohan unleashed his full power, pressuring Goku enough with such solid blows to make his father unleash his Kaio-Ken who promptly defeated him. In the manga, Vegeta noted that Gohan's full fighting instincts would make him extremely useful.

During the Tournament of Power, in the anime, against Obni's secret feint technique, Ultimate Gohan was able to endure the foe's attacks and counter, outlasting Obni to eliminate the tired foe and emerged completely fine. Against Jimizu, base Gohan was overwhelmed by Jimizu's professional use of Instant Transmission, although Frieza notes Gohan would easily handle the Yardat if he had used Super Saiyan. Base Gohan was able to compete against Final Form Frieza, who had grown even stronger than their last encounter, showing Gohan's increase in power. With Ultimate, Gohan pressured Final Form Frieza and briefly held his own against True Golden Frieza though this was were merely acting so Frost would let his guard down. Against Saonel and Pilina, after the Namekian foes reached their full power, Ultimate Gohan fended off the duo, holding his ground long enough for Piccolo to aid him in eliminating the two with a Ultimate Kamehameha. Against Universe 3's modified warriors, Ultimate Gohan fended off Borareta, Koitsukai, and Pancéa, causing them to merge into the mighty Koicéareta. Ultimately, a timely distraction from Goku and Vegeta let Gohan launch a Kamehameha to overwhelm Koicéareta. Alongside Android 17, Ultimate Gohan was at a disadvantage against Top. Against Dyspo, Gohan worked out the weakness of his Super Maximum Light Speed Mode, to which while Frieza trapped both Gohan and Dyspo in a Cage of Light, Gohan overpowered Dyspo whose range of movement was severely diminished. When Frieza ran out of stamina and Dyspo was free to move as he pleased, Gohan was fast enough to catch Dyspo in a body lock, leading Frieza to knocking both of them off the arena.

In the manga, without using his full power, Ultimate Gohan fended off the unified assault from the entire Trio of Danger with some difficulty. When faced with the entirety of Team Universe 9, Gohan believed he would need to use his full power against them, to which Piccolo told him not to as the fight would use up a lot of his stamina, the fight never occurred however as Frost interfered and fought Universe 9 himself instead. After Super Saiyan Kefla appeared, Ultimate Gohan declared that he could handle her alone. Proving his worth, Gohan's innate potential allowed him to quickly grow stronger than ever as he fought Kefla, ultimately becoming her equal, with the two wearing each other down and resulting in a mutual elimination. Seeing this Piccolo notes that Gohan has become stronger than ever before, and Krillin considered the possibility that Gohan could get stronger than Goku if he devoted himself to training. However despite Gohan's performance he did not leave a lasting impression on Beerus, who had completely forgotten he existed by the time of the Super Hero Saga.

In the Galactic Patrol Prisoner Saga, it was noted by Piccolo that with Goku and Vegeta off-planet, Gohan is the strongest on Earth. Ultimate Gohan is able to hold an edge over Seven-Three with Piccolo's abilities - even as a Great Namekian. However, when Seven-Three uses Moro's magic, Gohan is unable to get past his Fire and Flames and quickly has all of his energy drained. After Gohan's training with Piccolo, Goku states that they have both become far more powerful, though Shimorekka says that Gohan is still the stronger of the two. The duo is no match for the empowered Saganbo and against Moro - who has absorbed Seven-Three - Gohan and Piccolo's teamwork fails to do anything to him at all. After Goku is dealt a fatal wound, Gohan's rage powers him up, however this still proves unable to even move Moro, who downs Gohan with a single punch.

In the Super Hero Saga, it is noted that Piccolo believes Gohan could be the strongest on Earth if he put his mind to it. While no match for him as a Super Saiyan, Ultimate Gohan proved to have an edge over Gamma 1 when the two fought one another. Piccolo believed that if Ultimate Gohan continually charged his energy up he could surpass Cell Max in power, however this was left unconfirmed, as Gohan instead achieved his Beast state as a result of believing Piccolo had died. Gohan Beast proved completely unaffected by a heavy blow from Cell Max, and his counterattack knocked back the giant Bio-Android. In response to Cell Max's most powerful attack, Gohan Beast opted to fire off his charged up Special Beam Cannon at the giant's weak point to finish the fight. The energy clash of the two is s stalemate until Trunks and Goten interfere with Cell Max's control of his energy sphere, allowing Gohan's beam to overwhelm it and finish off the monster. As a result of this, Vegeta was told by Bulma that she believed Gohan's power had surpassed him and Goku. When Gohan entered Beast mode in anger at Carmine, Goku and Vegeta immediately sensed him all the way from Beerus' planet.

In Dragon Ball GT, in the Black Star Dragon Ball Saga, Gohan felt confident that he could help Goku to recover the Black Star Dragon Balls, despite the fact that he and his mother acknowledge there could be all sort of threats out in space. When Pan boasts that she is the third strongest warrior on Earth (after Goku and Trunks), Trunks notes Gohan as one of the people with strength surpassing his own.

During the Baby Saga, Baby senses that Gohan is stronger than Goten. When Baby Goten confronts Gohan, Baby continuously remarks on his desire to take Gohan's body due to his ability to handle Goten without transforming against Super Saiyan Baby Goten. Gohan is noted to hold his own while trying not to hurt Goten. However, when Super Saiyan Baby Goten releases an Explosive Wave, Gohan is forced to become a Super Saiyan. Once Baby gained control of Gohan's body, he remarks that the power of Gohan's body will be great enough to help him face Vegeta. While Super Saiyan Baby Gohan was able to defeat Piccolo with a Kamehameha, he was unable to kill him. Gohan's body was able to greatly impress Baby to the point where he considered keeping his body over Vegeta's. Baby Gohan was able to force Vegeta to fight seriously, greatly outmatching the prince's base state with his Super Saiyan form and forcing him to become a Super Saiyan to fight. Super Saiyan Infected Gohan, alongside Super Saiyan Infected Goten, is at a disadvantage against base Goku and is beaten back.

During the Super 17 Saga, Gohan held his own in his base form against General Rilldo, who is remarked by Goku for having a ki greater than that of Majin Buu. Rilldo ultimately chooses to metallize Gohan's limbs to take the advantage in the battle. After Majuub kills Rilldo, Gohan is shown to not have retained any damage from the assault and jokingly remarks that he should retire if they're going to save him. When he attacks Super 17, everyone is shocked that his Super Saiyan 2 might had no effect on the foe even with his Kamehameha, showcasing the regard to which his power is held.

In the Shadow Dragon Saga, Gohan initially does not go to fight due to being inferior to Super Saiyan 4 Goku. Despite this however, Gohan later helps his father against Syn Shenron. Though his intentions are only to help Goku recover his full power. Gohan manages to survive hits from Syn Shenron, and gives Goku the power to go beyond his limits as a Super Saiyan 4.

Dragon Ball Heroes

In the New Space-Time War Saga, base Gohan is easily thrashed around by Bojack, but once Gohan unleashes his true Super Saiyan 2 power in a rage at believing Bojack had killed Pan, even Bojack's full strength is no match and Gohan defeats him in a single blow.

Films

In Dragon Ball Z: Dead Zone, upon seeing his father in trouble during his fight with Garlic Jr., Gohan let out a large amount of energy that overpowered the Makyan and knocked him into his own Dead Zone void.

In Dragon Ball Z: The Tree of Might, Gohan is able to defeat one of Turles' henchmen named Rasin. Turles' scouter later reads Gohan's power level as 10,000.

In Dragon Ball Z: Cooler's Revenge, when he has his tail held by Dore, Gohan's power level drops to 50. Later, he tries to attack Salza but is defeated almost immediately by two physical strikes.

In Dragon Ball Z: Bojack Unbound, Super Saiyan Gohan battled against three of the Galaxy Soldiers at once, being at a disadvantage due to being outnumbered. Against the transformed Bojack, Gohan was able to hold his own for an extended period of time, and last longer than Super Saiyan Vegeta did, before the interference of his men. As a Super Saiyan 2, Gohan killed two of the Galaxy Soldiers with a single casual blow each and proceeded to kill Bojack with a Kamehameha.

In the Japanese version of Dragon Ball Z: Broly - Second Coming, Gohan, after noting that Broly became much stronger since their prior encounter, also notes with some annoyance "And here I was supposed to have powered up considerably since then", strongly implying that, at least within the context of that film, he continued to train and became much stronger than his Cell Games saga self.

In Dragon Ball Z: Fusion Reborn, Gohan in his base form is able to defeat Frieza in his Final Form with a single punch.

In Dragon Ball Z: Wrath of the Dragon, Gohan was able to overpower Hirudegarn when he battled against his bottom half, hurting it with his attacks and eventually knocking it down with a powerful energy blast. However, when later faced against Hirudegarn's completed state, he is defeated with ease, unable to do any significant damage to the monster.

In Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods, Ultimate Gohan's power made him the only one (without a power-up) able to touch the God of Destruction Beerus, being able to get him into a full-nelson lock. Despite this, Beerus easily broke free and quickly defeated Gohan by smashing heads with Buu's and kicking the young Saiyan in the abdomen.

In Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection ‘F’, Gohan, despite having slacked off in training for a while, was still the strongest warrior there fighting for Earth, next to Goku and Vegeta.[4] He easily defeated Frieza's soldiers that he had brought to Earth by the hundreds, including Frieza’s strongest warrior, Shisami, with a quick assault in Super Saiyan when Piccolo struggled against the foe. He is also more powerful than Piccolo - being the strongest of the warriors who fought Frieza's army. When he took on his Super Saiyan form he effortlessly defeated Shisami in one shot. Frieza states that base form Gohan alone would be more than enough to instantly beat all 1,000 men in the Frieza Force.

In Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, Despite applying more time to his work and family, Gohan has in fact been keeping his skills and body in peak condition, even learning the Special Beam Cannon. However, even though he could block a sneak attack from Piccolo, Piccolo noted Gohan became rusty, losing his instinct and dulling his senses for battle. This also kept him from focusing his full power or access his Ultimate state. In his base and Super Saiyan forms, he is able to hold his own against casual Gamma 1. In his Ultimate state, Gohan is able to slightly overpower Gamma 1. Ultimate Gohan is no match for Cell Max, but upon accessing a power beyond Ultimate, he is able to completely outclass the monster. Cell Max landed a solid blow to Gohan's chest with his massive fist, but the latter was unfazed and quickly sent Cell Max flying with a single kick. He would then finish Cell Max off with a Special Beam Cannon while he's restrained by Piccolo.

However, once Broly•Supervillain was defeated, Chronoa and Elder Kai was confident Ultimate Gohan could handle Super Buu while the Future Warrior raced off to assist Trunks: Xeno in freeing Vegeta from Hell so he could fuse with Goku. Although Gohan did warn Cell he has been training again and is nowhere near as weak as Cell thinks.

This transformation occurs when a person with Saiyan heritage (and with a tail) absorbs enough blutz waves through the eyes, usually from looking at a full moon. This stimulates a gland in the tail, enabling a seemingly unavoidable transformation. In this form, Gohan's capacities increase 10-fold. Because Gohan never had any proper training, Gohan loses all form of mental control, becoming a primal beast. However, during his fight against Vegeta, Goku's words were able to reach Gohan enough to regain some of his rational thought and focus on his real enemy. Gohan only transforms into this state three times throughout the series as ultimately, his tail was permanently removed. Gohan is the only known Saiyan/Human hybrid to ever achieve this transformation, due to having been born with a Saiyan tail.

Gohan uses his Unlock Potential enhancement

Gohan acquired it from Guru while on Planet Namek, who noted that Gohan's capacities were by far the greatest he had ever seen. Gohan's abilities were all greatly enhanced, and as a side effect, continuously grew at noticeably faster rates with each battle, as noted by Vegeta. This awakening made Gohan's power increase multiple fold, making him equal to Vegeta's strength when the latter appeared on Earth. This, however, only appeared to release his initial potential as only through moments of extreme emotion could he manifest all of his power. This powered up Gohan is still able to use his Super Saiyan forms.

Kid Gohan as a Super Saiyan

Gohan became a Super Saiyan at nine years of age (ten if including the months spent in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber), during the intense training he endured with his father to help him ascend. At the time, Gohan was the youngest to appear as a Super Saiyan until the appearance of his brother, Goten, who accesses the state effortlessly at seven years old. In this state, his capacities are increased either 10-fold or 50-fold. In this state, his musculature grows more defined, while his eyes become sterner and green, and his hair turns blond while standing up more with no loose strands. His energy is manifested as a golden aura. After Gohan had his potential unlocked by Old Kai, Gohan would rarely use this or any higher form, due his base state's power already being well-beyond the previous limits that Super Saiyan alone would provide. However, doing so still increases his power as proportionally as previously. After Gohan’s earnest studies led him to need glasses, his diminished eyesight is restored in his Super Saiyan forms.

During Gohan's first appearance as a superhero, he used this form to lessen chances of people recognizing him. He became known as the Gold Fighter by the residents of Satan City, until he adopted a new gimmick of Great Saiyaman. Later, Gohan uses this form again during the return of Frieza to defeat Ginyu in Tagoma's body (in the anime while defeating Shisami in the manga/movie) to compensate for his lack of training in recent years, letting him access virtually his previously level of power.

Super Saiyan Gohan was initially going to make his debut appearance in Dragon Ball Z: Super Saiya Densetsu prior to his first appearance in the manga. He was cut from the game but can still be found in-game files.[16]

Gohan is one of the first to gain full mastery over Super Saiyan. After Goku noted the inherit weakness of transforming, a reduction in stamina and ki, Gohan learned to perfect this form with his father. By working to remain transformed for extended periods of time, Gohan and his father gradually learned to overcome the transformation's drawback to feel as natural in this form as their base state. This mastery of Super Saiyan enables full control over the energy output and consumption, completely diminishing strain on the body, even while constantly maintaining maximum power for. It also has caused no affect to Gohan's emotional nature and subsequently gives of a pure energy that attracts wildlife.

During Frieza's revenge, despite still able to access Super Saiyan, reduction in performance from lack of training left Gohan only able to maintain Super Saiyan at its base level and only for brief periods of time. Despite his decline in conditioning and stamina, his power proved great enough in this form to signal Goku from Beerus' planet. Later, he retrained with Piccolo to become properly conditioned again and use this form as freely as ever. The power was shown off more during his battle with Lavender, even while blind Gohan is able to use the ki he gives off like a radar, allowing Gohan to fight and overwhelm Lavender in this state, even while dying and his body rotting from poison.

Gohan as a Super Saiyan 2

Gohan was the first and the youngest to reach Super Saiyan 2, achieving it at the age of 9. This occurred when a larger portion of his dormant power was awakened in rage from Perfect Cell killing the peaceful Android 16 (though in an anime-only flashback, Gohan had already instinctively stumbled upon it while training with Goku in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber).

While in this form, Gohan's muscle mass increases slightly and hair stands straight up and spikier with the exception of one lock that hangs down. Also, his aura is surrounded by repeated flashes of blue electricity. Originally, so new with this massive boost of power, it warped Gohan's attitude, giving him an almost sadistic sense of mind as he wanted to make Cell suffer for his evil actions, whereas before Gohan was a pacifist to a fault who didn't want to hurt the villainous Cell.

Super Saiyan 2 Adult Gohan

As an adult during, despite his lack of increased might since defeating Cell, Gohan's Super Saiyan 2 power left Shin and Kibito in awe. His power also proved able to push Majin Buu's resurrection over halfway. Later, Super Saiyan 2 allowed Gohan to free the Z Sword from its stand and lift it when all Supreme Kais failed before. After training with the Z Sword, Shin believes Super Saiyan 2 Gohan can beat Majin Buu.

In the manga version of Super Dragon Ball Heroes starting from the New Space-Time War Saga, Gohan began to use his Super Saiyan 2 form again in battle as a result of him empowering the form through rage in his battle against Bojack.

In Dragon Ball Xenoverse, Towa's dark magic awakens Gohan's Super Saiyan 2 power instead, thus making Gohan slowly start to become corrupted. This is most noticed by Gohan letting out an evil laugh after saying he has to make Cell suffer. Goku takes notice and even Trunks notices that Gohan's energy is different. Gohan returns to normal, after Towa and Mira are both driven off.

Great Saiyaman

Great Saiyaman

The Great Saiyaman (グレートサイヤマン Gurēto Saiyaman) is Gohan's transformation alter ego and an attempt to hide his true identity from his classmates when he attended school in Satan City. The Great Saiyaman was first born when Gohan transformed himself into a Super Saiyan in order to disguise himself as he fought some bank robbers on the morning on his first day to school. However, his classmates (and in particular, Videl) began to note strange similarities between himself and the mysterious "Gold Fighter" (as they described his Super Saiyan form). Concerned that his identity might be figured out, but wanting to protect the city from random crime, he approached Bulma and asked her if she could invent a device that could instantly change his appearance. With his new costume ready and easily accessible with the press of a button, he could now protect the city without his identity being easily discovered. When Gohan becomes a Super Saiyan as Great Saiyaman, he is referred to as "Super Great Saiyaman".

Dragon Ball Super Great Saiyaman Super Great Saiyaman (Episode 74)

Gohan as Super Great Saiyaman

Despite the new disguise and protection of his identity being discovered, the Great Saiyaman identity still did not ensure Gohan's identity from being safe. Juggling between his school and superhero life proved to be difficult, and his classmates and teachers noticed that he was gone for a long period of time when he asked for bathroom breaks. Also, Videl proved to be a thorn in Gohan's side, as she was both reluctant to accept assistance from him and most importantly wanted to discover his true identity. At one time, the Great Saiyaman's true identity was in jeopardy of being discovered when he changed from being the Great Saiyaman to his normal form and noticed that his classmate Angela was standing in front of him during his change; however, he was saved when she revealed that she did not have her contact lenses on at that time and could not see anything, and that her big secret about Gohan was the fact that he wears teddy bear underwear. Gohan's luck ran out when Videl eventually discovered his true identity, agreeing to keep it a secretly only if he agreed to enter the World Martial Arts Tournament and to teach her how to fly, to which he reluctantly agreed. After the demise of Kid Buu, Gohan continued to fight crime as the Great Saiyaman alongside Videl, who now had the identity of Great Saiyaman 2; nonetheless, he eventually retired from heroics to become a scholar.

All Great Saiyaman costumes were made by Bulma. The costume initially consists of a green tunic, black tights, white gloves and boots similar to those used in Battle Armor uniform, a red cape, and an orange-and-black helmet with a visor. Because the rules of the World Martial Arts Tournament forbid any type of armor, Gohan swapped out the helmet in favor of a white bandana and sunglasses, similar to the hero of the 1960s TV show Kaiketsu Harimao. He maintained the sunglasses and bandana look for the Saiyaman identity after the defeat of Kid Buu, and subsequently abandoned the red cape. In Dragon Ball Super, Gohan went back to wearing his helmet and cape again. The name "Saiyaman" is a reference to Gohan's Saiyan heritage. He thought up the name on the spot while confronting two youths who were speeding in a car, and was easily offended when they laughed at his name. Later, the name was frequently mistaken for others, such as the "Great Soyman" or the "Great Singing man", which further aggravated Gohan however over the years this issue has resolved itself as Great Saiyaman is now known worldwide as a superhero. He was also noted for his comical poses (comparable to or even more ridiculous than the poses of the Ginyu Force) he would perform when introducing himself and was generally written off as hilarious or weird. Nonetheless, he was still a respected hero within Satan City. While in this disguise, Gohan still uses his energy-based techniques. Recently, Gohan has begun to use other attacks and transformations as well during his battles with Watagash. He adopted an orange finger beam he calls the Great Saiyaman Beam. He also begun to use his Super Saiyan form as well if situations called for it, opting to go with what the film director called it his "Super Great Saiyaman" form.

Super Hero - Ultimate Gohan

Ultimate Gohan in his Ultimate state

This power up was achieved by a special ceremony performed by Old Kai. In addition to Old Kai's Unlock Ability granting Gohan full access to all his developed capacities, Gohan is capable of pushing his power well-past those levels via his Ultimate state. This power-up is when the full extent of his dormant capacities are released. This state looks identical to his base state, but with the addition of a lock of hair hanging down over his forehead in the anime. Once accessing his Unlocked power, Gohan's subtle differences are present to his appearances, including more pronounced facial features including sterner eyes, and is able to manifest a large white aura. While in this state, Gohan does not require his glasses to properly see. Gohan is also referred to as Ultimate Gohan (アルティメット悟飯 Arutimetto Gohan)[17] in this state.[9][18] He is also known as Mightiest Warrior[8] and Strongest Warrior[19] in this state. As this is a harnessed manifestation of his natural power, Gohan is able to maintain this state indefinitely throughout his daily life unhindered. Despite this, he still requires regular training to properly access this state and thus becomes weaker over time with lack of training like any other. During which, his diminished self can only access this form while maxing out his power, as seen in Super Hero, also causing his hair to spike up like Super Saiyan.[20]

With Ultimate, he could easily overwhelm Super Buu, and hold his own against Super Buu (Gotenks absorbed). In the Dragon Ball Super anime, after Gohan resumed training with Piccolo and reached a higher understanding of his powers, his abilities evolved to such a level that he could rival Super Saiyan Blue Goku in a short fight, with him requesting his father further amplify his power via Kaio-Ken, albeit this let Goku defeat Gohan instantly. In the manga with his full power he could match Super Saiyan Kefla (who was not at her full potential) - though was noted to be weaker than Goku, with Krillin wondering if Gohan could surpass Goku by devoting himself to training.

Gohan doesn't possess his Ultimate state in Dragon Ball GT.[21]

While rarely doing so, Gohan can utilize his Super Saiyan forms on top of his Ultimate state. In the original release of Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods, Gohan transformed into Ultimate Super Saiyan to fight Beerus, though this was removed from the final movie.[22][23]

In the anime, as Gohan noted to Goku, he made a conscious choice to avoid using Super Saiyan forms as he is aiming for a different ultimate form. In the manga, he notes that he chose not to use Super Saiyan forms as he has chosen to grow more from his human side.

Gohan Beast[24] (そん はん・ビースト Son Gohan Bīsuto)[25] is an evolution of the Ultimate state unique to Gohan awakened through rage as a result of witnessing his teacher Piccolo's apparent death at Cell Max's hand. In this form, Gohan's eyebrows turn white, while his hair turns light gray and lengthens to resemble his old Super Saiyan 2 hairstyle as a boy. His eyes become fully red with black pupils. Gohan's power is such that he effortlessly withstood a full power punch from Cell Max and defeat him with ease.

Infected Gohan

During the events of the Baby Saga in Dragon Ball GT, Gohan is possessed by Baby, and then later by a regular Tuffle parasite. While under Baby's control he is named Baby Gohan. In this state he becomes part Tuffle and is much more malicious, especially to Goku for being a Saiyan. While retaining all his original memories and individuality, he sees himself no longer as part human or Saiyan, but rather proudly considers himself a Tuffle. This dark influence also causes his energy blasts to become red.

This state of Gohan makes its debut for the first time as a playable character in Dragon Ball Heroes, in both its base and Super Saiyan forms. It also appears as a playable character in Dragon Ball Z: Dokkan Battle in both forms.

In Dragon Ball Z: Shin Budokai, after travelling into the future, Teen Gohan is consumed by blind rage when taunted by Cell about the mistakes that he made and tainted by Janemba's influence, he transforms into a Super Saiyan 2 and gains a power boost enough to easily destroy Super Perfect Cell (who had previously beaten Super Saiyan 3 Gotenks - though he was messing around - thanks to a Saiyan Power boost). Like anyone else who is overtaken by evil energy, Gohan starts to transform into Janemba and begins to forget his friends and family, however he is freed from Janemba's influence by Goku, who manages to snap him out of his blind rage.

Gohan attains this form in Dragon Ball Heroes, where it was introduced in God Mission 4. Like his future counterpart, Gohan's Super Saiyan 3 form possesses two hair bangs instead of just one unlike his father. The version of Gohan who appears using the form wears a copy of the version of Piccolo's outfit he wore in the Cell Games. He also attains a more powerful variant of the Hyper Masenko.

This transformation is a result of what would've happened if Gohan continued to train under Piccolo in the years following the Cell Games.[26]

In World Mission, this form is playable via the PUMS3-23 Super Saiyan 3 Gohan (Adult) card.

GT Gohan as a Super Saiyan 4

Gohan achieves this form in Dragon Ball Heroes during God Mission 5. In this form, Gohan's hair grows identically to Goku's and Vegeta's and he has his bang back (although in the same position he has during the Ultimate state). Red fur appears covering the upper part of his body and he wears dyed purple pants with Piccolo's shoes. He also gains a new technique called Ultimate Soaring Dragon Strike, which he punches the opponent and then he launches an uppercut with an image of a dragon hitting the opponent very fast. In this state Gohan's power is overwhelming to the point where Gohan actually loses control of himself at times and can't properly control the power. A full power Kamehameha (which are purple colored in this state) from Gohan requires the full power of Goku's x10 Kamehameha and Vegeta's Final Shine Attack to overpower and not destroy the Earth.

In World Mission, Super Saiyan 4 appears as a form for Gohan (GT) via his PUMS2-25, SH1-GCP3, and UM1-60 cards. Additionally, there is a Giga CAA Special Ability that can be equipped to any Gohan (Kid/Teen/Adult/GT) and/or Great Saiyaman card (official or custom) to transform into Super Saiyan 4 Gohan when it is equipped via the Custom Deck or added to a custom card through Card Creation.
