Giras (ギラス Girasu) are a race of pterodactyl-like monster beasts.

Overview[]

Giras in Dragon Ball

The most notable of the races is the aptly named Giran, who fought Goku in the 21st World Martial Arts Tournament. They later reappear when Goku goes to find the blockage in the river to Nam's village. They blocked the river with the race's special ability to create Merry-Go-Round Gum.

The race is later killed off by Super Buu, but all of them are revived later and give energy to Goku's Spirit Bomb. During Frieza's revenge, the Giras were killed off when Frieza used his Earth Breaker to destroy Earth, though thanks to Whis' Temporal Do-Over rewinding time and Goku's Dash Kamehameha, Frieza was killed preventing him from destroying the Earth.

In Dragon Ball Online, Giras are shown living on Earth in Age 1000, though they wear gloves and boots. Additionally, the Time Breakers are shown to have created Android Giras who wear Time Breaker Battle Armor.

Giran and two other Giras, Doku Giran (Poison Giran) and Kingu Giran (King Giran), are enemies in Dragon Ball 3: Gokuden. The Giras Giran is a boss and a playable character in Dragon Ball: Advanced Adventure. Giran is also a boss, fighting in the 21st World Tournament, in Dragon Ball: Origins.

Midgiras

Many creatures of this race appear in Dragon Ball Z: Attack of the Saiyans, in different forms: Magmaras, Dark Giras, and Dengiras are common enemies while Dongiras and Midgiras are bosses of the Holly Plain and Break Wasteland respectively. It was in this game that the name of the race was mentioned, however, not directly, but the names of the creatures reveal it.

Giras also appear in the computer game Dragon Ball Online.

While Giras don't appear in Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2, their Merry-Go-Round Gum ability appears as a Super Skill for the Future Warrior under the name Go-Go Gum, though most of the Future Warrior's voice options in the Funimation dub localization of Xenoverse 2 refer to it as Merry-Go-Round Gum. Interestingly, this Super Skill can be learned by the Future Warrior regardless of their selected race, indicating Earthlings, Saiyans, Namekians, Frieza Race, and Majin can develop the ability to produce it similar to the Giras, though instead of it being a natural ability, it acts as technique that can be learned.
