"Who did I kill? Trunks?" |
Full Power Death Beam[2] (フルパワーデスビーム) is a full-powered version of Frieza's Death Beam used by Cell in his Super Perfect form.
Overview
The user extends his index finger forward and fires a Death Beam that is slightly bigger and more powerful than the original. The technique is performed by Super Perfect Cell due to some of his cells originating from the technique's presumed inventor King Cold.
After self-destructing on King Kai's planet and regenerating himself, Super Perfect Cell returns to Earth by using Instant Transmission and uses the Full Power Death Beam to randomly kill Future Trunks, much to the shock and surprise of the rest of the Z Fighters.
Appearances in video games
The attack is briefly seen in a cutscene in Dragon Ball Z: Budokai: Super Perfect Cell randomly fires the attack at Future Trunks after fighting Gohan. The attack was named "Full Power Death Beam" in Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3, where it is one of the Blast 2 attacks of King Cold and Super Perfect Cell, and the only Finger Beam attack in the game that is clashable; the color of the Full Power Death Beam is originally yellow when Cell performs the move in Dragon Ball Z, whereas its color is changed to purple whenever Cell or King Cold perform the move in Budokai Tenkaichi 3. This attack also appears as one of Perfect Cell's Super Attacks in Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Z, named Perfect Death Beam.
Frieza uses the Full Power Death Beam as one of his attacks in final form and Mecha form in Dragon Ball Z: Harukanaru Densetsu. Final Form Cooler uses a large purple Death Beam attack similar to a Full Power Death Beam in Battle of Z.
Trivia
- Super Perfect Cell using the Full Power Death Beam to execute Future Trunks parallels when Frieza used his Death Beam to execute Vegeta.
- Cell's attack appears in the Dragon Ball Z Collectible Card Game as part of the card "Namekian Piercing Beam"; it is an energy attack which, if successful, discards one of the opponent's allies in play and lowers their anger level by one.
- A similar yellow Death Beam technique is used by Frieza in his final form: once against Gohan during their battle on Namek, and later in the OVA Dragon Ball: Plan to Eradicate the Super Saiyans and in the Dragon Ball GT episode "17 Times 2". He also uses a yellow Death Beam in the arcade game Dragon Ball: Zenkai Battle Royale, and in a promotional trailer for Dragon Ball Heroes.
