I watched DB DBZ and DBGT but every alien race speaks English why?and even use our time system since when asked how long it would take to get to th grand elders house dende said 5 hours

Why do every Japanese character in anime speak English???
Universal Tongue...[]
Well in the namek/frieza arc, Frieza himself states the language as the 'Universal Tongue', implying that the main language spoke around the universe is in fact the same as english... with a few exceptions, the yardrats that taught goku the instant transmission technique speak in a garbled language, so its unlikely they had contact with other races... as well as several other minor races.
But its shown that namekians are rather famous around the universe, since vegeta and nappa recognise piccolo as a namek, and vegeta states about hearing of the magical balls of namek, but as it had already been established that namekian is its own language, they must have been visited by other races who taught them the 'universal tongue' which they adopted as their primary language, considering in scenes where there are only nameks, they still continue to speak 'english' as opposed to namekian (case in point: guru, nail, and dende speak english together; as well as moori and other nameks when sensing power levels far away).
The Arlians that Vegeta and Nappa visit on their way to earth also speak in the same tongue, even though they had no reason not to speak in their own language (if they had one) implying that they adopted the tongue as their primary language to either deal with other races (that they have obviously encountered due to their lack of surprise that 2 visitors from space arrived on their planet) or because it was simply a better language.
Even races from across the universe recognise the language, as shown in the other world tournament arc where contestants speak english from all four corners of the universe, even the kais speak it as their primary language.
This begs the question: do all races simply evolve to the point where the universal tongue becomes dominant? or did a race that developed the language teach it to another race and so on and so forth until it eventually spread around the universe? and if so, did an alien race visit earth at one point and teach it to earthlings?
Im aware that dragonball is fiction... but from a purely dissectional point of view, its a very interesting query...

Well they speak English yet they dont use our numerical system on scouters yet vegeta still said let's wait 3 hours and he understood trunks when he said an island nine miles away from west city and said to arrive at 10 am so its kinda weird
