[[Category:{{{1}}}|Noticing how the dub subtly changes the story]]

Hello! I've lurked here for quite some time, having been a long-time fan of Dragon Ball, but have recently decided to begin contributing. It's essentially an exercise in prose for me. I've done quite a few recaps for the One Piece Wikkii. I'm also an experienced contributor to Wikipedia, and TV Tropes has ruined my life.

Recently I noticed an interesting difference. When I was surfing Youtube, I found the entirety of the fight/proposal between Goku and Chi-Chi from the Funimation dub. Touched by the scene, I went to go search for the full episode in Japanese, and decided to recap it. I always base recaps on Japanese versions.

Anyway, when I got to the actual proposal, when Goku finally remembered who Chi-Chi was, it was interesting seeing how different the dub makes the scene. Here's a comparison of the actual lines:

Goku (original Japanese): Well, I did make a promise. So, you wanna get married?
Goku (Funimation dub): Sometimes my brain doesn't know what my mouth is saying. Good thing my heart does. Will you marry me?

I pretty much had an epiphany when comparing these scenes. We all know the Funimation dub is never completely faithful to the original Japanese. But I can't help but notice that the Funimation version of Goku is slightly more aware of what he's doing, and slightly more caring, whereas the original has absolutely no clue what he's doing.

It's something that's obvious with the original Funimation dub of DBZ, I know. But anybody notice any subtle differences of this kind between the Japanese and (uncut) English in Dragon Ball Kai?

Ocean Dub.[]

i notice how the ocean dub's music, voice acting and editing of violence is awful and the FUNIMATION dub;the uncut version,is much ,much better in all of the said areas. Speaking of 'Dubs', Kai is also cringingly irritating in those areas. Fight you? no,i wanna kill you! 03:14, March 17, 2012 (UTC)
