I was wondering what the community thought about Goten and Trunks never going SSJ3 even though they can achieve it while fused together as Gotenks. The show also never mentions that possibility either. Is this simply an oversight by the writers of the show, or do you think it can't be achieved at all?

I see what you mean: if Gotenks, the fusion of Goten and Trunks, can acess the SSJ3 form, it would make sense that they could do the same individually. However, it would be absolutely ridiculous to think Goten or Trunks could achieve this transformation. It took Goku, the most talented and powerful fighter in the universe I dare say, years to achieve SSJ3. Goten and Trunks are so young, and still neive about the world. I doubt they would be able to achieve such a high class saiyan transformation. The story wouldn't make any sense if they did. Sure, Goku explained how to do it, but it would still take time to truely understand what he ment. Gotenks was probably only able to do it because his power was so great, and he would kind of need to be that strong to face Super Buu for the story.
