Piccolo Unleashes his Power

Piccolo raises his energy to fight the Androids.

Piccolo is the most powerful Namekian in Universe 7 and Universe 6, with Grand Elder Guru remarking him (or rather his original self the Nameless Namekian) to be a prodigy amongst prodigies, and even strong enough to stand up to Super Saiyans.

Piccolo has been the strongest Z Fighter in the series at two points: when he fuses with Nail to battle Frieza and after he fuses with Kami to become the Nameless Namekian again in order to combat the Androids. Through the rest of the series, he has tended to rank in power below Goku and Vegeta but above Tien and Krillin. His special techniques often allow him to damage opponents with raw power higher than his own by concentrating it into a single attack, most notably the Special Beam Cannon.

Like his father, Piccolo was a challenging opponent for Goku, although he was at a disadvantage. He was able to heavily wound Goku with a surprise attack after which he barely managed to defeat him with a flying headbutt. His power level in early Dragon Ball Z is 322, and without his weighted clothing it is 408. His power was significantly inferior to Raditz, and Raditz' superior speed allowed him to dodge Piccolo's stronger attacks. Piccolo was able to generate an attack with a power level of 1,330 to kill Raditz and Goku after significant charge time. However, he managed to overcome Raditz only with the assistance of Goku and Gohan, who had managed to weaken the Saiyan.

During the year of preparation for the Saiyans, Piccolo was swiftly overwhelmed and nearly killed twice by Gohan after the boy transformed into a Great Ape and was forced to seemingly destroy the Moon (or make an illusion of its destruction per one source), as well as Goku's Space Pod that was creating an artificial reflection of the Moon.

A year later, during the battle against the Saiyans, his power level is 3,500. Even after all his training, Piccolo was unable to land any serious damage against Nappa, even with help from Krillin and Gohan. After training with King Kai and fusing with Nail, Piccolo was able to combat and gain the upper hand over Frieza in his second form, who boasted a power level of 1,000,000. Once Frieza transformed into his third form, Piccolo initially believed that he was still the faster of the two but was quickly proven wrong when Frieza trapped him in a torturous barrage of Death Beams. In order to give Goku time to finish the Large Spirit Bomb, Piccolo (with energy from Gohan and Krillin) fought Frieza in his final form and managed to surprise him with a sneak attack before being overpowered.

During the Trunks Saga, after Vegeta mocked him, Piccolo challenged him under the belief he could not defeat him.[1]

PiccoloPunches17

Piccolo, after fusing with Kami, punches Android 17

After his training in preparation for the Androids, despite Android 20 absorbing most of his energy, once rejuvenated by a senzu bean, Piccolo was able to charge himself up to easily dominate Android 20. This made Krillin exclaim that Piccolo reached the Super Saiyan realm of strength, though Vegeta was dismissive of this. After fusing with Kami, he could defeat Imperfect Cell (with the population of Gingertown absorbed) while wearing his weighted clothing. Later, after removing his weighted clothing, his strength was on par with Android 17. Also, with his superior combat experience and ingenuity, he was able to keep up with the android's unlimited energy to gain a slight advantage over the foe, whereas before, he was effortlessly dominated by 17 with only a single blow. Once Imperfect Cell arrived, Piccolo's sneak attack was able to somewhat hurt Imperfect Cell (with several thousands of humans absorbed). Unfortunately, he is still utterly dominated by Imperfect Cell, and even his most powerful attack was unable to damage Cell. After Piccolo's training in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber for a day, Goku states that Piccolo has become a lot stronger but is still no match for Perfect Cell. After Goku surrenders to Cell during their fight, the evil Bio-Android states that neither Vegeta or Future Trunks compare to Goku at his full power, but in Dragon Ball Z Kai, he includes Piccolo (implying that Piccolo was comparable to Vegeta and Future Trunks at the time). With his new power, in the anime, along with Super Saiyan Vegeta, Piccolo is able to hold his own against and even hurt the Cell Juniors (who were said to have power similar to the suppressed Perfect Cell in the English dub). In the anime, Piccolo and the other Z Fighters fail to hurt Super Perfect Cell during his beam clash with Gohan; only annoying him, before being pushed aside when he flares up his aura. Only Vegeta distracted Cell long enough for Gohan to finish him.

During the very beginning of the Majin Buu Saga, Piccolo is too intimidated to fight Shin, either due to his strength or godly status. Against Babidi, Piccolo is able shake off the foe's magic attacks and breach his barrier, allowing him to easily defeat the wizard by cutting him in half. It is implied that Piccolo is stronger than Goten and Trunks, as when Gotenks' fusion wears off inside Buu, Piccolo's traits become dominant - and it is said that Buu's strongest absorption victim is the one who he shows dominant traits of.

In Dragon Ball Super, Piccolo is easily defeated by the God of Destruction, Beerus, with a kiai. During the Golden Frieza Saga, Piccolo is easily overpowered by Frieza's strongest soldier, Tagoma.

In the anime, after Frieza's defeat, Piccolo begins retraining Gohan. By the time of the Tournament of Destroyers in the anime, Piccolo was ahead of Gohan's base power, as after a match, only Gohan showed exhaustion.

During the tournament, Piccolo and Goku both rated Piccolo's power as insufficient to stand a chance against Frost, but Piccolo proved strong enough to hold his own. In the anime he possessed enough raw strength to hold Frost in place with one extended arm. Frost also admitted that Piccolo's Special Beam Cannon would have definitely defeated him. Additionally, Piccolo's Special Beam Cannon was strong enough to create a large hole through Vados' force field barrier, to the shock of Champa, who believed her barrier to be unbreakable. In the manga, Piccolo proved able to skillfully dodge all of Frost's blasts with his weights on. After removing them, Piccolo proved able to fight on par against the Universe 6 Emperor, dragging out the fight until both fighters were left winded, making Frost resort again to using his needle.

By the time of the Tournament of Power, Piccolo's intensified training gave him an explosive boost in power. In the anime, Piccolo easily overwhelms Gohan in his Super Saiyan 2 form but falls short of Gohan's reawakened Potential Unleashed form. However, through strategy, he could still compete with the Saiyan hybrid. Later when sparring with Goku, Piccolo (without his weights) proves to be able to fire off a Hyper Explosive Demon Wave that base Goku can barely hold back.

During the Tournament of Power, in the anime, rather than going off on his own, Piccolo chose to remain with Gohan, Krillin, Tien Shinhan and Master Roshi - they launched an assault that caused little to no damage against Lavender, Botamo, Comfrey, Shosa, and Dercori. He easily dodged Dyrasem's assault; when fighting Rubalt, the two seemed to be evenly matched, but Piccolo managed to instantly knock Rubalt out of the arena with his Hellzone Grenade. He was able to withstand Hermila's Ki Blasts, albeit losing both arms. However, Piccolo was able to quickly regenerate multiple times from the same assault and continue battling effectively, showing considerable stamina. Piccolo was able to briefly fight on par with Saonel and was able to blast him away with a ki blast when Gohan caught his hand. After realizing both Pirina and Saonel had assimilated many Namekians from Universe 6, Piccolo was still able to fight Pirina on somewhat equal footing (although his Hellzone Grenade is ineffective against the bulky Namekian). His non-fully charged Special Beam Cannon was able to deal some light damage to Pirina and his full power Special Beam Cannon is able to pierce both Namekians and go through Pirina's energy wave. Saonel was amazed that there is a Namekian like Piccolo who possesses such amazing power to actually cause significant harm to both himself and Pirina in one attack. Piccolo was also able to knock Xiangca out of the arena with a single ki blast.

In the manga version of the Tournament of Power, Piccolo proved at a disadvantage against Hyssop but was able to effortlessly defeat Dyrasem with a simple energy blast. He then easily evaded a sneak attack from Napapa, blocking the large foe's assault with a single hand before eliminating him. He also fought on par with Obni. In both the manga and anime Piccolo was able to knock Gamisalas out of the arena with a single energy wave after locating him. Damom was able to knock him back and off the stage, albeit with a sneak attack.

In the Galactic Patrol Prisoner Saga, after Piccolo's training with Gohan, it is noted by Goku that they have both become far more powerful, though Shimorekka states that Gohan is still the stronger of the two, however the duo is no match for the empowered Saganbo, who walks through their combined energy wave with no damage. After Moro locks the Dragon Team inside a barrier with him, Piccolo believes that it may be possible for him to wipe out Moro using a Light Grenade self-destruct, however Moro injures him before he can finish charging.

In the Super Hero Saga, Piccolo proves able to put up a fight with Gamma 2, managing to land several blows, and escape from him unharmed. However, Gamma 2 referred to Piccolo as being an opponent who was "too easy" to the Red Ribbon Army's higher-ups. After obtaining his Ultimate state from Shenron, Piccolo proved able to keep with Gamma 2 at full power. However, the android still had a slight advantage, able to quickly rebound from each assault Piccolo landed on him. Once angered by Piccolo claim that Dr. Hedo was being tricked into doing evil, Gamma 2 quickly overpowered Ultimate Piccolo. As Piccolo was pushed to brink, it allowed him to access the heightened form granted by Shenron: Orange Piccolo. In his new form, Piccolo was completely indifferent to Gamma 2's assault, unfazed by the androids barrage of strikes. To which, Piccolo just as casually knocked out Gamma 2 with a single blow. Based on his non up to date knowledge of Piccolo's power, Trunks believed that Piccolo would have trouble with Hedo's Androids, based on his and Goten's prior encounters with them.

In Dragon Ball GT, Piccolo's power has grown substantially. During the Black Star Dragon Ball Saga, it is remarked by Trunks that Piccolo is one of the people on Earth stronger than him.

During the Baby Saga, Piccolo is referred to as the mightiest Namekian by Baby - and a suitable opponent to test Super Saiyan Gohan's power on. Piccolo takes a Kamehameha from Super Saiyan Baby Gohan and while he's not able to resist the attack from his possessed pupil, Piccolo was powerful enough the endure the attack even without guarding and while protecting Goten from it. Though he is heavily injured, he was able to endure it long enough to help Goku with the final evacuation of the people of Earth and provide Goku with enough energy to teleport while in his underdeveloped child form.

When Piccolo reappears during the Super 17 Saga, he decides to become the warden of Hell. Due to his status as someone dead, he's decided to be sure that none of the residents of Hell are able to escape again. As shown in the Shadow Dragon Saga, Piccolo is doing fine with his position as the powerhouse in hell. Preventing all of the villains from gaining any sort of control, showing that Piccolo has improved to the point where he can handle all of the villains of the past with no problems.

Super Dragon Ball Heroes

In the anime version of the Universal Conflict Saga, Piccolo (with his weighted clothing on) is able to match Kamin in battle. He and Android 17 together can overwhelm Kamin and Oren, causing them to fuse into Kamioren. Working together with Android 17, their cooperation and analytical thinking allowed them to overpower Kamioren despite being weaker than it. Piccolo's fully charged Special Beam Cannon is also powerful enough to pierce through Kamioren. Against the likes of Ultimate Kamioren and Fused Zamasu however he proves ineffective.

Films

In Dragon Ball Z: Dead Zone, Piccolo is sounded defeated after being ambushed by Sansho, Ginger, and Nicky. Later, he fights against Super Sansho and easily defeats him after launching a powerful assault. Piccolo and Goku together battle against Super Garlic Jr. are initially at a disadvantage but upon removing their weighted clothing, they quickly overwhelm him.

In Dragon Ball Z: The World's Strongest, Piccolo easily takes down a group of Bio-Men but is taken down himself after being ambushed by the three Bio-Warriors. Whilst being mind-controlled, Piccolo without his weighted clothing fights on par with Goku. Upon being free from the control, he fights against Dr. Wheelo but is easily taken down. However, a Mouth Energy Wave fired by Piccolo proved strong enough to crack Dr. Wheelo's protective casing that covered his brain.

In Dragon Ball Z: The Tree of Might, Turles' reads Piccolo's power level at 18,000. He battles against Turles but is beaten with ease as he blocks Piccolo's Special Beam Cannon with his hand.

In Dragon Ball Z: Lord Slug, Piccolo is able to overwhelm and kill Wings. He is taken out by Medamatcha and Angila while protecting Gohan and later is able to give Goku enough power to allow him to get back to his feet and kill Lord Slug.

In Dragon Ball Z: Cooler's Revenge, Piccolo is able to kill Dore with a single energy wave and turns Neiz's attack back on him to kill him, he is also able to hold and edge over Salza but is quickly taken down by Cooler before he can finish him off.

In Dragon Ball Z: The Return of Cooler, Piccolo, unlike Gohan, Krillin and Master Roshi is the only one to avoid capture at the hands of the Cyclopian Guards and is able to destroy an entire army of them with an explosive wave. He is later taken down by Meta-Cooler.

In Dragon Ball Z: Super Android 13!, Piccolo is easily down by Super Android 13, unable to harm him even with a barrage of attacks though he is able to grab him from behind and lift up, causing the androids energy blast that was being aimed at Goku to go astray.

In Dragon Ball Z: Broly - The Legendary Super Saiyan, like the rest of comrades, Piccolo is completely outmatched by the might of Broly in his Legendary Super Saiyan form, at one point failing to land a single blow on him even while standing still.

In Dragon Ball Z: Bojack Unbound, Piccolo fought against Bojack. He appeared to hold his own at first and was able to land a couple attacks on Bojack but in the end it was Bojack who prevailed.

In Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods, Piccolo is easily defeated by the God of Destruction, Beerus. He was defeated with ease by two chop sticks to two vital pressure points on the chest.

In Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection ‘F’, Piccolo is able to effortlessly defeat large amounts of Frieza's elite soldiers. Against the strongest warrior in the Frieza Force, Shisami, Piccolo was able to hold his own, stating to Gohan that he would have won even if Gohan had not stepped in.

In Dragon Ball Super: Broly, sensing Super Saiyan God Goku's battle with Wrathful Broly, Piccolo notes that if he came to assist, he would probably just get in the way.

In Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, with his weights on, Piccolo's sneak-attack punch was caught by Gohan, but the second punch landed when Gohan let his guard down. During his first fight against Gamma 2, Piccolo is completely outmatched by the android, but manages to escape unnoticed. After Shenron unlocked his latent potential, his Potential Unleashed state was initially able to overwhelm Gamma 2 but was quickly pressured again by the Android's full power. While still able to hold his own for a period, his struggle indicated he is weaker than both Gammas and Ultimate Gohan. As Orange Piccolo he was completely unfazed by Gamma 2's barrage of punches and in return knocked him out cold in one punch. He then proved to be the only fighter capable of going head-to-head with Cell Max, but in the end was overwhelmed by the giant android. Gohan wanted Piccolo to take the last Senzu Bean, under the belief he was the best hope to defeat the injured Cell Max. Even after being critically injured by Cell Max, he was able to hold down him down long enough for Gohan to finish him.

Statements by authors and guidebooks

According to Daizenshuu 2, even just upon being born Piccolo was a great fighter as he had access to all of King Piccolo's memories and techniques.[2]

In Daizenshuu 7, Piccolo's biography states that after fusing with Nail, their combined power level is "Over 1,000,000" and is enough to defeat Frieza's 2nd form (who stated in both manga & anime to be over 1 million himself).

In The Legendary Manga it is said that fusing with Nail made Piccolo's power 5x greater.[3] It is also stated that after training in participation for the Androids, Piccolo's power grew to be about the same as Goku's.[4]

Orange Piccolo has power on par with Goku and co.[5]

Video games

In Dragon Ball Z: Shin Budokai, which is set a few years after Kid Buu's defeat, Piccolo's power has increased enough that in his "Fuse with Kami" state he is able to fight against a powered up Perfect Cell (though the fight leaves Piccolo tired) as well as against Super Saiyan Teen Gohan.

In Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2 what if scenario, Destined Rivals, Piccolo is able to defeat Shin in battle without even having to take off his weighted clothing.

In Dragon Ball Z: Supersonic Warriors, after Goku dies, Piccolo put himself through intense training and becomes strong enough to defeat Majin Buu although he regenerates. Later, Piccolo fuses with King Piccolo and gains his full potential. Piccolo states that a battle against the fat Majin Buu would have been an "easy victory" and Super Buu states that Piccolo is stronger than he is even with weighted clothing on.

In Dragon Ball Z: Supersonic Warriors 2, Piccolo goes under the influence of Babidi, increasing his power above Super Buu's as well, and later absorbs Super Buu's power, becoming much stronger.

According to Dragon Ball Z: The Anime Adventure Game, his power is 800,000 after training with King Kai and it is 1,200,000 after he had fused with Nail (which is around Second Form Frieza's power level of about 1,000,000), it also states that his power is 2,000,000 during the Garlic Jr. Saga.

In Dragon Ball Z: Super Saiya Densetsu (which covers up the series from Raditz's arrival to the Frieza Saga finale), Piccolo's power level in level 48 (the top level in the game, after fusing with Nail, Dende, Tsumuri and Maima) is 1,900,000.

In a special mission in Dragon Ball Z: Scouter Battle Taikan Kamehameha - Ora to Omee to Scouter, Piccolo Jr's power level is 500,000,000.

In Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 Universe 6 DLC, Piccolo defeats Botamo and is capable of fighting on par with Cabba in his base form.

This state is the result of Piccolo when he removes the weighted turban and cape he wears as part of his Demon Clothes. Due to no longer being burdened by the extra weight, his power level increases, and he gains a more agile fighting style hence its name. Piccolo normally switches to this fighting style when fighting seriously. Named in Dragon Ball Legends, where it appears as a "transformation" for Legends Limited Piccolo (DBL22-03S) which he achieves via activating his Main Ability, My body feels so light!.[6]

Great Namekian

Main article: Great Namekian

GiantPiccolo

Piccolo as a Great Namekian

In this state Piccolo is referred to as Giant Piccolo. Piccolo transforms into a Great Namekian when he battles against Goku in the finale of the 23rd World Martial Arts Tournament. Piccolo is able to use this form due to his status as a Demon Clansman. Because of his increased mass and weight, it equally increases his durability yet has no effect on his speed or agility as his body proportions remain the same in comparison to his size. At the same time, while his increased weight makes his attacks heavier and harder to counter, it does not grant any actual increase in strength or ki.

Great Namek Piccolo (Garlic Jr

Piccolo uses Great Namekian to emulate the Serpent's giant form

In the anime, Piccolo is able to emulate the Serpent Demon Clan's giant form and battle Garlic Jr., matching the foe's hulking size while improving upon it by maintaining a greater speed.

In this state, Piccolo is about the size of a Great Ape.

In Dokkan Battle, it is called Piccolo Jr. (Giant Form). In World Mission, it is called Giant Piccolo Jr. and appears as a transformation for Piccolo Jr.

Super Giant-Form

Main article: Super Giant-Form

Piccolo the Giant

Piccolo increases his size even further from before, taking on the "Super Giant-Form". In this state he is so large, his fingernail is larger than a full-grown human. So massive in size, he barely fits on the arena and would not be able to take a step otherwise he would step off. In this form he is described as being as large as a mountain. In this form Piccolo's weight and physical strength become so great that he was able to pin and almost crush Goku with a single leg.

Mind Controlled
Piccolo Evil

Piccolo under mind control

A state taken on by Piccolo when he is under the control of Dr. Kochin and Dr. Wheelo, in this form Piccolo wears a gold device on his head and his eyes turn red.

Piccolo can use this form in Dragon Ball Heroes starting from JM6.

In Dokkan Battle, this form is called Piccolo (Brainwashed) and it appears as a non-playable boss character during the main story, having been brainwashed by Dr. Kochin and Dr. Gero. However, he is freed by Future Trunks and the Time Patrol.

In World Mission, this form is called Brainwashed and appears as one of Piccolo's playable forms.

Super Namekian (First Fusion)

Main articles: Namekian Fusion and Super Namekian

Piccolo assimilates Nail

During the Frieza Saga, Piccolo uses the Namekian Fusion with Nail, which greatly boosts his strength and power beyond his previous limitations. After this First Fusion,[7] Piccolo is said to be a Super Namekian. With this, Piccolo is able to fight against Frieza evenly while the tyrant is in his 2nd Form. Through further training, Piccolo in this form is able to easily overpower Android 20 and according to Krillin Piccolo's power rivaled that of a Super Saiyan. According to Nail if Piccolo had fused with him while he was "whole" he would have been capable of defeating Frieza.

In Dokkan Battle, this form is called Piccolo (Assimilated) and is accessible via activating Piccolo's Assimilation Active Skill for his Battle as a Namekian Piccolo card.

Demonic Transformation

Main articles: Black Water Mist and Demon Clan

PiccoloInfected

Piccolo using the Demonic Transformation

During the Garlic Jr. Saga, Piccolo is infected by the Black Water Mist becoming a vampire-like Demon Clansman. However, when Piccolo was infected with the mist, it didn't have an effect on him, because Namekians are immune to the mist. However, uniquely, Piccolo proved able to take on the Demonic Transformation on his own, presumably due to his past as a Demon Clansman.

Piccolo Jr. was born a Namekian Demon Clansman due to being King Piccolo's son and reincarnation. As a Namekian Demon Clansman, the souls of people killed by Piccolo Jr. would not pass onto Other World and would remain in limbo unless resurrected. Piccolo lost his Demon Clan status around the time of the Raditz Saga as both Goku and Raditz souls went to Other World after being killed by the Full Nelson Special Beam Cannon.

Super Namekian (Second Fusion)

Piccolo assimilates Kami

During the Imperfect Cell Saga, Piccolo goes through a Second Fusion[7] by assimilating Kami and becomes a Super Namekian. He is mistakenly referred to as "Kamiccolo" by Goku just after the merger. With this power up, he is able to fight against Android 17 evenly for a short period of time. With further training Piccolo was able to hold his own and for a brief time hold an advantage against the Cell Jr's in the anime. In the years that followed Piccolo's power was well behind that of Goku and Vegeta, though his diligent training did allow him to get to the point where he could face powerful foes such as Frost.

Piccolo takes on this state when removing his weighted clothing, while him wearing his weighted clothing is his "base form".[8]

In Dokkan Battle, it is named Piccolo (Fused With Kami) and is accessible via activating Piccolo's Fuse With Kami Active Skill for his Kami and Demon King United Piccolo card.

In Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, it is a transformation called True Namekian Fusion. True Namekian Fusion Level 1 is unlocked after fusing with Kami while Level 2 and Level 3 can be unlocked through the Super Attack Skill Tree. Level 1 raises damage dealt by 20%, but Piccolo slowly loses Ki over the course of the battle while it is active. Level 2 increases the damage dealt by 30%, while Level 3 increases damage dealt by 40%.

In Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, Piccolo obtained the ability to take on the Ultimate state by wishing for it from Shenron, unlocking the deepest levels of his latent potential.[9] Piccolo's version of the form is referred to as "Power Awakening".[6][10][11]

In this form, Piccolo's skin becomes a lighter, almost yellow coloring and the black lines on his arms disappear, making his skin appear smooth. His arms also take on a slightly darker shade of green than the rest of his skin. His gi turns into a near magenta color, and his belt in this form changes from red to black. He also gets more muscular. It is the first state in which Piccolo's outward appearance changes noticeably.

When Piccolo asks Shenron to unlock his latent potential, the Eternal Dragon also gives Piccolo a "little extra". Piccolo taps into this form for the first time during his battle with Gamma 2. While in this form, he retains is noticeably taller with a bulky physique. He also obtains red pupils, black lines around his eyes, and a more chiseled face with his antennae sticking up. He also retains the clothing color changes of his Power Awakening form. It is said that this form gives Piccolo power that rivals even that of Goku.

Majin Piccolo further powers up in the what-if saga in Supersonic Warriors 2 when he absorbs Super Buu's power. After Majin Piccolo is beaten, he calms down and returns to his old self. Piccolo is named as Majin Piccolo in Tenkaichi Tag Team and has power somewhat superior to Super Saiyan 2 Goku. In Shin Budokai - Another Road, Piccolo is referred to as mind-controlled Piccolo while in this state and is not as strong as he is in Supersonic Warriors 2.

As this form reawakens the evil within his heart it is implied that he regains his status as a Namekian Demon Clansman.
