Piccolo strangles Gohan

Gohan continues to take a beating from Piccolo, while Krillin tries to free Kami and Mr. Popo. But he too is infected by the Black Water Mist, leaving Gohan the only hope for the Earth.

Meanwhile, Maron, Yajirobe, and Korin are playing poker on Korin Tower. One of the prizes Maron wins from poker against Yajirobe and Korin is the Cat Bell that allows people to get into the Lookout (Goku used one back when he first went there). Korin also places down the Power Pole as the next thing he is betting against her, claiming it was a "letter opener".

Piccolo heals his neck

It seems that there is no way Garlic Jr. can be defeated, but when Garlic Jr. drops his guard and attempts to finish off Gohan, Piccolo grabs the bottles containing the pint sized Kami and Mr. Popo. Piccolo then reveals that the Black Water Mist had no effect on him, and that he and Krillin were only pretending. The odds have improved, but the battle is far from over.

Differences from the manga[]

  • The entire events of this episode were exclusive to the anime.

Trivia[]

  • Fortuneteller Baba makes a cameo appearance in a poker card.
  • The Power Pole is referred to as a "mystical magic wand" in the English dub, and is not identified as being Goku's old weapon. The AB Groupe's dub of Dead Zone also refers to it as such despite being produced at the same time in France when the Garlic Jr. Saga was still airing. The remastered dub did not correct this.
  • When Piccolo blasts Gohan away, Garlic Jr. quips "That's what you get when you send a Namek to do a man's job!" Piccolo and Kami weren't aware of their extraterrestrial origins until Vegeta and Nappa mentioned it in the Saiyan Saga; two years after Garlic had been sealed in the Dead Zone. How he could have discovered this is unknown. Note that he never uses the term "Namek-seijin" in the Japanese version.
  • This episode marks the last time that Piccolo uses the Multi-Form technique.
  • It it never spelled out in either Japanese or English how Piccolo was immune to the Black Water Mist's effects. With his demon clansmen nature diminished, it is unlikely that played any part in it.
