Energy Punch (気拳 Kiken, lit. "Spirit Fist") is a powerful punch that is charged with ki, it is used by multiple characters in Dragon Ball Z.

Overview[]

The user energizes their fist with ki to strike an opponent with greater force. It is a widespread technique that varies in style between its users.

Cui uses his variation, the Bomb Strike, against Vegeta, but ends up missing and destroying a mountain on Namek instead. Captain Ginyu uses his Holstein Shock variation to injure his body before using his Body Change to steal Goku's body. Yamcha uses a Ki Blast Thrust to defeat Recoome on King Kai's Planet.[7] Frieza also uses it while fighting Goku.

Goku uses an energized punch named Heroic Force[1] while fighting Majin Vegeta.

Bergamo can use energized blows after increasing his power from receiving incoming attacks, which he attempts to use against Goku during their battle at the Zeno Expo. Kefla attempted to use her variation, Gigantic Breaker against Ultra Instinct Sign Goku during the Tournament of Power, but he dodged it causing her to comically trip throwing her off balance. Android 17 uses an Android Barrier based version called Barrier Punch during the Tournament of Power as well.

In "Goku Revived!! Strongest vs. Strongest Collide!" episode of the Universal Conflict Saga, using his new mastery of Ultra Instinct Sign Goku can focus the energy of Ultra Instinct Sign into his fists and uses an Ultra Instinct Sign enhanced energy punch to separate Oren from Vegeta.

Film Appearances[]

In Dragon Ball Z: The Return of Cooler, Piccolo uses it to destroy Cyclopian Guards.

In Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, Gamma 2 utilizes it as part of his Gamma Impact rush attack.

In Dragon Ball Legends, Shallot can learn several versions of this technique. Additionally the Shining Blow Special Move Arts used by Super Saiyan Trunks (Teen)(DBL32-02S) appears as an energy punch which can be seen on his character illustration. After punching through the opponent's chest, the energy punch's blast wave can be seen coming out (presumably as a substitute for the blood that appeared when Future Trunks originally used the attack to kill Kogu in Bojack Unbound).

In World Mission, it is used as part of Rebellion Fang, Rebellion Hammer, and Caulifla's Energy Fist. Kagyu's Penetrate! finisher on Super Giant Xeno Lord Slug takes the form of an Energy Punch.
