The farmer's pickup truck is a 1981 Chevrolet C-Series pickup belonging to an unnamed human farmer who appears during the arrival of Raditz.

Overview

The farmer is using his Chevrolet pickup while working in his fields when Raditz's pod lands in the distance. The farmer drives out to the impact crater in it. When Raditz kills the farmer by flicking his own bullet back at him, the bullet passes through the man's body and penetrates the truck's grill, causing the hood to pop open and apparently damaging the engine.

Later, when Raditz brings a captive Gohan back to the crater in order to hold him hostage until Goku capitulates to his demands, a terrified Gohan hides underneath the truck. Annoyed, Raditz punches his fist into the truck's engine (through the opened hood) and lifts it up to reveal Gohan. Mustering some courage, Gohan tells his uncle "Big deal! My dad could lift that too, y'know!", which provokes Raditz to frighten the boy by destroying the vehicle with a concentrated ki blast.[1] The scene of Raditz destroying the truck only occurs in the anime. In the manga, the truck is not destroyed and remains parked near the impact crater, and is visible throughout Raditz's battle with Goku and Piccolo.

Later in the anime, during the Kid Buu Saga, a farmer appears and his blue truck can be seen in the background.

Even later, in the movie Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods, the farmer that makes a cameo has a truck very similar to the one seen in the first episode of Dragon Ball Z.

Trivia

  • There is no manufacturer's name on the truck in the Dragon Ball manga.
  • There is a minor blooper (in both the manga and the anime) regarding the truck's condition when Raditz departs after killing the farmer and when he returns with Gohan. When he leaves, the driver's side door is open, but when he returns, it is shut. Also, the farmer has disappeared.
