Dr. Hedo (ドクター・ヘド Dokutā Hedo) is the genius grandson of Dr. Gero and Vomi. A super-intelligent scientist with strong biology knowledge and a medical license, he is responsible for the creation of the Alpha Series, Beta Series, and Gamma Series, as well as Cell Max. Though he plays the tertiary antagonistic role in Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero as an employee of the Red Ribbon Army through its front company Red Pharmaceuticals, he later becomes a member of Capsule Corporation by the end of the events of the film.
Appearance[]
Dr. Hedo is a short pudgy man with an almost-childlike complexion and black, slicked-back hair. He has no eyebrows and his eyes have black bags under them. He has altered his skin with a serum that allows him to resist shocks from objects such as bullets. He typically wears a purple, black, and white superhero-style costume, complete with hood.
Personality[]
Despite his questionable actions and occasionally vindictive personality, Dr. Hedo is more ambivalent and opportunistic than actively evil. When the idea to kidnap Pan was proposed to lure out Gohan, Hedo openly voiced his dislike of the idea showing a sense of morality. Instead, he has an obsession with superheroes and desires nothing more than to create the ultimate android superheroes (Gamma 1 being directly inspired by such a superhero, with Gamma 2 also being derived from the design). He does not truly believe Magenta's claims about the Red Ribbon Army being a force for good, but only goes along with their plans to secure funding for his research. Following the defeat of his own out of control creation, Cell Max, and the loss of Gamma 2, Dr. Hedo showed great remorse for his actions and offered to turn himself into the police.
Similarly to the Android modeled after his late grandmother, Dr. Hedo enjoys sweets and is often seen eating cream-filled sandwich cookies, a seeming callback to the aforementioned Android's love of macaroons.
Biography[]
Background[]
Dr. Hedo is the grandson of Dr. Gero, the former top Android researcher of the Red Ribbon Army. As mentioned by himself, he never met his grandfather as a child because of his parents disapproving of the latter's occupation.
Gifted with an intellect higher than even that of his grandfather, Dr. Hedo achieved both an MD and PHD from an early age. Unfortunately, his questionable ethics and personality prevented him from maintaining employment under any laboratories. This drove him to reanimating several corpses and employing them at a convenience store as part of an experiment. Despite his determination to continue funding his research, Hedo was eventually found out and imprisoned for his highly unethical use of the dead.
Dragon Ball Super[]
High School Saga[]
Dr. Hedo, having gone to the grocery store, returns to a mansion on Butterfly Mountain to find that his Alpha Series creations have been beaten and the Helper Bots destroyed with Alpha 12 informing him that the one responsible wore a crest belonging to Blue Hal High School. Hedo also finds that the data disc, once belonging to Dr. Gero has been stolen from his safe. Realizing that their base of operations is finished, Hedo decides to procure research funds in a different way.
A few days later, Hedo enrolls another of his androids, Beta 1 under the alias Baytah, into Blue Hal High School as a transfer student so that he can identify the one responsible for stealing his data disc. Believing the culprit to be Trunks, he has Beta 1 test him until a show of strength from Goten causes Hedo to believe that he is the culprit instead. He orders Beta 1 to recover the disc but he is defeated by Saiyaman X-1 and X-2. Despite the loss, Hedo is enamoured by the heroes and vows to make his next androids far more powerful still and with matching red capes.
Over the next few days, Hedo sends out more androids who attempt to defeat Saiyaman X-2 though they are all beaten with ease. Spying on the students of Blue Hal High School using Tentomaru, Hedo learns that the superhero Cleangod will be making an appearance at an upcoming dance party and develops Beta 8, a female student android, so that he can attend. Whilst at the party, Mai catches sight of him and tries to capture him along with Krillin and the police who show up shortly afterwards, but he is able to escape using a smoke launcher concealed under his sleeve.
He returns to his lab along with Beta 1 who has now acquired the data disc. Learning that he has been pursued by Krillin along with Saiyaman X-1 and X-2, Hedo releases Dinodroid 1, a more powerful android though limited in intelligence. Nevertheless, this android too is defeated, and Krillin arrests the doctor and tries to take the data disc from him though he explains that he has discarded it as he had memorized its contents already. Hedo is placed in prison for three months for his crimes of stealing bodies from the morgue but remains steadfast on creating the ultimate android.
Super Hero Saga[]
Three months later, Hedo finishes his sentence and blows up the prison not long after exiting the building. Hedo is then approached by Magenta, telling the latter that he is fully aware of his identity because of Hachimaru who spied on both of him and his driver. Magenta explains to Hedo that their organization once had a relationship with his grandfather, Dr. Gero, and asks if Hedo would like to make Androids for them. However, Hedo is hesitant as it is not within his goals to conquer the world but to create the strongest androids of all time. After Magenta offers him one billion zeni for each android he creates as well as telling him of a secret group of powerful extra-terrestrial warriors that appear to be connected to Bulma and Capsule Corporation who he believes are planning an invasion of Earth, the scientist agrees to ally himself with the Red Ribbon Army and heads to the Red Ribbons secret base.
Over the next few months, Hedo creates Gamma 1 and Gamma 2 along with the developing Cell Max. Magenta pushes Hedo to release Cell Max though the scientist explains that he is not ready as his control program for his mind is not yet complete and that releasing him early would result in a rampaging Cell Max destroying the world. The Red Ribbon devise a ploy to kidnap Pan so that Gohan will be lured to the base where he can face off against the Gamma androids and sure enough everything goes as planned. However, while the Gamma androids initially have the advantage against their opponents Gohan and later Piccolo, the tables are soon turned where they reach the heights of their power.
In a panic, Magenta rushes off to activate Cell Max and Hedo chases after him to stop him knowing the damage the incomplete creation could cause to the world. Magenta shoots him but Hedo gets up, reminding him about his toughened skin and Magenta reveals that he's gone through some upgrades as well removing his suit to show the cybernetically enhanced body underneath. He prepares to fight but is stung on the back of the neck by Hachimaru, whose poison begins killing him. Magenta uses his final moments to undo the final locks on Cell Max who begins to break free from his chamber. Hedo tries to flee from the beast in an aircraft but is caught up in an explosion.
Hedo survives the explosion and the crash and following the destruction of Cell Max thanks to Earths heroes, is shown holding the hand of Gamma 2 who, after sacrificing himself in an attempt to defeat Cell Max, fades away. Hedo feels remorseful over his actions and blames himself for everything that has happened, blaming the allure of the Red Ribbon's research funds for not knowing any better when he should have. He offers to turn himself and Gamma 1 into the authorities but the others agree to let things go as the pair aren't evil. Hedo then asks Bulma if he and Gamma 1 could be hired to work at Capsule Corporation and upon learning that Hedo had modified his skin to make it more resilient, she agrees to his request hoping that he can develop beauty treatments to make her skin look younger.
Film Appearances[]
Super Hero[]
After being released from prison, Dr. Hedo dressed in a superhero style suit, meets Magenta and Carmine, who pull up in a car and invite him in. He reveals he already knows who they are, having used his spy robot to trail them ever since Carmine first came around the prison. Magenta proposes that Hedo come work for them though he is reluctant, knowing that Red Pharmaceuticals is secretly the Red Ribbon Army, his grandfather’s connection to the organization causing trouble for himself and his parents. As a superhero fan he also takes issue with their plans for world domination. Carmine attempts to threaten Hedo with a gun but Hedo reveals that he's injected himself with serum that toughened his skin to withstand a certain degree of shock. In addition, Hachimaru, which lives in a compartment on his glove, carries a lethal poison. Magenta appeals to his sense of heroism and informs him that they believe Capsule Corporation is serving as the headquarters for a collection of aliens set on world domination themselves, and that the androids and Cell were part of a plan to stop them. He shows Hedo footage of Future Trunks killing Frieza and Hedo agrees to assist them and to contribute his research in creating the ultimate android superheroes. He begins and completes the Gamma 1 and Gamma 2 androids, and continues development on Cell Max, as requested by Magenta.
Six months later, Piccolo, dressed as a Red Ribbon soldier sneaks inside the HQ where Magenta, Carmine, Dr. Hedo and the two Gammas are holding a meeting. Magenta orders Dr. Hedo to finish his work on "Cell Max", but Hedo insists the two Gammas can finish the job on their own. He is also hesitant to activate it as his control system isn't finished, meaning he could easily turn against them. Not long afterwards, eager to hasten their plans, Magenta and Carmine devise a plan to lure in Gohan as they are unable to locate Goku and Vegeta. Knowing he has a daughter, they decide to kidnap her to lure him to the base, though Hedo is against the idea.
Pan is eventually brought to the HQ and as expected Gohan comes for her. After the Gamma's become overpowered by both Gohan and Piccolo, Magenta rushes off in order to release Cell Max and Hedo chases after him. When Dr. Hedo tries to stop him, Magenta shoots him and begins to undo more of Cell Max's restraints. Dr. Hedo gets up, reminding him about his toughened skin and Magenta reveals that he's gone through some upgrades as well removing his suit to show the cybernetically enhanced body underneath. He prepares to fight but is stung on the back of the neck by Hachimaru, whose poison begins killing him. Magenta uses his final moments to undo the final locks on Cell Max who begins to break free from his chamber.
Cell Max rampages and almost kills the doctor but thanks to the Dragon Team and the weakness that Hedo placed in his head, Cell Max is destroyed though so too is Gamma 2 who sacrificed himself during the battle. Dr. Hedo is repentant of his actions, knowing he was being used and chose not to care and offers to hand himself over to the police. However, Bulma offers the repentant Dr. Hedo and Gamma 1 places at Capsule Corporation as Dr. Hedo's skin serum may prove useful in cosmetic research.
