- This article is about Shin's younger brother. For the episode of the same name, see Degesu (episode).
Degesu (デゲス Degesu) is a Glind from Demon Realm, and the younger brother of Shin and Dr. Arinsu.
He is one of the two secondary antagonists of the Daima Saga.
Concept and creation[]
Degesu's name appears to come from an archaic way of saying "to be" in Japanese, linking his name to those of Dr. Arinsu, Zamasu and Gowasu.
Appearance[]
Degesu's full appearance
Degesu is fairly tall with a white mohawk, dark violet eyes, and has a similar pale pink complexion to his siblings. He wears a lavender full sleeve shirt, olive green sleeveless coat with red linings and a gold button, along with a dark yellow sash around his waist. He wears light grey pants that get covered by his coat. He dawns a white cape similar to Dabura and Gomah and matching white boots. Degesu's outfit has some stark differences when compared to the Supreme Kais such as, unlike the Supreme Kais who have penguin tailed coats, Degesu's coat is much more like a trench coat that wraps around him but has a slight opening on the bottom front, and his boots are unique among Supreme Kais due to the fact that they are not pointed. Unlike regular Supreme Kais with exception to the Grand Supreme Kai, Degesu is the only one of the similar position who is shown to dawn a cape. Lastly, he does not wear Potara as they are considered "Godly items".
Personality[]
Degesu is a serious individual who takes his duties under Supreme Demon King Gomah very seriously. He has a semi-formal, deadpan attitude when around Gomah, and becomes very flustered when things don't go according to plan and Gomah yells at him for solutions but mostly maintains his composure. He has a sense of organization, carrying a notepad and pen to jot down important details, if need be, but is not the brightest Glind, scheming to become Supreme Demon King but having no real plans on how to do so. He will not hesitate to use extreme force if necessary, such as striking Dende for trying to stop him from summoning Shenron and interfering with Gomah's plans as a whole and later pulling a gun on the infant Dende to threaten the Dragon Team. He believes that a Glind should naturally seek out higher positions of power. Ironically, like Gomah, Degesu is quite submissive and cowardly to the point he was hesitant to disable Sir Warp despite that it could halt the Dragon Team's progress to the First Demon World.
Degesu has great animosity towards his elder brother Shin, referring to him as a "nosey upstart" and being resentful of him for supposedly acting as though he knows everything. He has a dim view on mortals, as he dislikes that Shin bothered to help them, believing that deities mustn't partake in mortal affairs. While he is respectful to his sister Arinsu, he shares Gomah's apprehension of her manipulative personality, though he is ultimately just as ambitious but not nearly as clever. Degesu seeks to overthrow Gomah but when he enacts his plan his haphazard actions lead the Dragon Team right to him and without the Evil Third Eye to defend himself due not waiting for his henchwoman to return with the desired object.

Daima Saga[]
Degesu bows before the new Supreme Demon King
In the Demon's King Palace, Degesu and Gomah use a magic monitor to jump through the key events that occurred when Earth was invaded by the Organization of Babidi and Majin Buu. While watching these events, Degesu considers Dabura a disgrace for falling under Babidi's control and learns that his brother is involved. When looking into further events, Degesu and Gomah are taken by surprise by the power the mortals on Earth possess. After learning of Dabura's defeat, Degesu tells Gomah he is now the new Supreme Demon King and bows to him. However, their celebration is short lived when Dr. Arinsu arrives and stirs up Gomah's anxiety after threatens to cut her research fund by suggesting that the mortals who defeated Majin Buu will invade Demon Realm. After hearing this, Gomah tells Degesu that they'll use Earth's Dragon Balls to weaken everyone involved in the battle with Buu and acquire the Evil Third Eye. They also decide to bring Neva with them, and they leave through Sir Warp to Universe 7's Earth.
Degesu is commanded to take Dende with him
Upon arriving on the Lookout, after Neva restored the Dragon Balls, Degesu prevents Dende from interfering while Gomah summons Shenron to turn everyone who fought Majin Buu and their friends into children and babies.[2] However, he surprised to learn that they only gets one wish due to being a first-time user and that Neva can't restore the Dragon Balls twice in a row. Degesu calms an angry Gomah by reminding him that the mortals are harmless now, giving him the idea to take the child-like Dende with them so that the Dragon Balls will no longer be usable on Earth. Degesu then takes Dende from Mr. Popo and returns to the Demon Realm.[3]
Sometime later, Degesu and Gomah review footage of Vegeta's first battle with Innocent Buu and notice Dr. Arinsu in the background collecting some of Buu's residue after he had been blown to pieces by Vegeta's Final Explosion.[4]
Degesu cowers over Gomah's outburst
Degesu is informed that the ones who were turned into children on Earth have entered the Demon Realm much to Gomah's dismay. Even worse, he learns that one of them has defeated one of the Tamagami to win the Dragon Ball from him. An angry Gomah orders Degesu to do something about the situation before it escalates further.[5] They watch Goku defeat five Gendarmerie planes in the Second Demon World and Gomah requests all the Gendarmerie gather in the First Demon World before it's too late.[6]
Degesu hesitantly shuts down the Sir Warp
Degesu and Gomah continue to watch Goku's group as they meet Neva, who joins them, and defeat Tamagami Number Two for their second Dragon Ball.[7] However, eruptions from outside the palace causes them to switch monitors and learn that Dr. Arinsu's strange creature has defeated Tamagami Number One for a Dragon Ball as well.[8] Due to these events, a panicked Gomah orders for Sir Warp to be disabled so that Goku's group are unable to travel to the First Demon World to which Degesu begrudgingly does so.[9]
Gomah orders the Gendarmerie to attack
Degesu and Gomah then meet up with the Gendarmerie Force and explains to them that a bunch of enemies are likely to be making their way towards them from the Second Demon World and so they have been summoned to act as a form of defense just in case they arrive. Once Degesu receives a call that Goku's group arrive, Gomah orders an attack.[10] While monitoring the battle, they notice that Hybis is currently in possession of the Evil Third Eye located on his belt buckle and so Gomah orders Degesu to find a way to retrieve it. Degesu has a female demon retrieve the Evil Third Eye[11] while he takes Dende and attempts to leave but Goku and the others arrive.
Piccolo takes out Degesu with a single blow
Degesu holds Dende at gunpoint and reveals that he is striving to become the next Supreme Demon King. Degesu attempts to board the plane but Panzy, who had sneakily arrived and hidden, attacks. Degesu swiftly halts her attack but is unexpectedly struck with Hybis' hat by Glorio. Briefly incapacitated, Piccolo takes down Degesu with a single chop while Panzy catches Dende. Degesu is tied up and taken out of the castle where is escorted away by members of the Kadan Force at gunpoint.[12] After Gomah is defeated, Degesu is sealed away with him for 99 years in a jar by Marba where they play video games together.[13]
Power[]
While Degesu does not appear to be a particular battle-oriented Kai in comparison to the South Supreme Kai or Zamasu, he is still powerful enough to effortlessly knock out Dende with a single chop. He is easily defeated by Mini Piccolo in one blow.
