"Dawn of the Fierce Battle… The Planet of Hope is Piccolo's Homeland") is the seventeenth overall episode in the Dragon Ball Z Kai series. This episode first aired in Japan on August 2, 2009. Its original American airdate was June 15, 2010. The song "Over the Star" is played in it.

Planet Namek, Piccolo's home world
Before Krillin deals the final blow to kill Vegeta, Goku intercedes. He asks Krillin to allow his selfish Saiyan wants and let Vegeta live, as he wishes to train harder and challenge him again. Krillin reluctantly agrees and Vegeta leaves Earth. Master Roshi, Bulma, Chi-Chi, and Korin fly to where Goku, Gohan, and Krillin are. They gather the bodies of their deceased friends and set off to Wukong Hospital. Krillin informs them that Kami is a Namekian, and that the planet Namek should have more inhabitants able to create Dragon Balls. After brainstorming on how to get there in a reasonable amount of time, they realize that Nappa's space pod is still a working vessel. Bulma decides to run it through some tests and see if it is still viable.
