Caramel Mama (キャラメル・ママ ) is a production company mainly dedicated to editing databooks and other tie-in materials for prominent anime/manga franchises. It was originally founded in 1986 by Tsuneo Matsumoto, the president of Akira Toriyama's official fanclub.
The company was named in homage to Dr. Slump's Caramel Man robots.
Overview[]
True to its origins, Caramel Mama has worked on many projects in connection with Akira Toriyama and Bird Studio, including the OVA adaptation of the video game Chrono Trigger, compilations of Dragon Ball manga material for the Daizenshuu and Chouzenshuu collections, and even editorial guidance on Dragon Ball Z Kai. It has also helped produce tie-in materials for many other franchises, including strategy guides for the Final Fantasy series, anime guidebooks for Detective Conan, and every One Piece databook up through the current "Vivre Card" series.
