"If you'd just let me kill you all before, you wouldn't be dealing with this pain now. You're all a complete and utter waste of Saiyan blood!"
Broly - The Legendary Super Saiyan

Broly (ブロリー, Burorī) is the main antagonist in Dragon Ball Z: Broly - The Legendary Super Saiyan and Dragon Ball Z: Broly - Second Coming. He was a Saiyan who was the latest of the Legendary Super Saiyans who appear every thousand years.[5] His father was Paragus.

Appearance

Broly is a light-skinned Saiyan with dark eyes, long spiky black hair reaching his mid-back and short bangs framing his forehead (rather like Gohan's hair in the Vegeta Saga). As an adult Broly is very tall with a lean but well-built frame. He wears a crown with a blue jewel that his father Paragus uses to restrain him from transforming into the Legendary Super Saiyan. In addition to the crown, Broly wears a golden necklace, boots, wristbands, and a belt that all sport blue jewels like his crown, along with golden bands on his upper arms and neck that later break off upon transforming into a Legendary Super Saiyan. The rest of his attire consists of white pants and a red sash similar to the one worn by Kibito.

As a Super Saiyan while wearing the crown, Broly's hair takes on a neon blue color with a purple tint and appears fully purple in dark environments. As a Super Saiyan without the crown, his hair takes on the signature golden color of the form, while his skin takes on a slight tan color. As a Legendary Super Saiyan, Broly's hair retains the golden color from the regular Super Saiyan form while gaining a faint green tint. In addition, Broly's muscles become engorged to extreme levels and his height increases by several feet. His pupils also disappear.

When in Legendary Super Saiyan form, Broly's blood seems to turn a dark green color (and on one occasion, glowing). The first time it is seen this color is in Broly - The Legendary Super Saiyan, when Goku mortally wounded him after he punched a hole into his chest area, in which glowing green blood gushed out. The second time is in Broly - Second Coming, after Broly is blasted into the Sun by the Family Kamehameha, his heart then explodes out of his chest, causing a torrent of green blood to emerge from the front back of the wound on his body, right before he explodes. In the beginning of Second Coming, however, while still in Legendary Super Saiyan form, Broly is seen with red blood.

Personality

Broly(Daiz6)

A series of concept arts for Broly illustrated by Akira Toriyama, as seen in Daizenshuu 6

When first seen, Broly is seen as a rather docile and harmless-looking Saiyan (uncharacteristic of a majority of the Saiyan race). In reality, Broly has a typical Saiyan nature as he revels in battle and destruction but on a far greater scale. Broly was born with a Power Level of 10,000, something which made him more frenzied and maniacal as he grew older; essentially, the power he was born with, as well as the traumatic events of his birth, made him go mad. In an effort to control his erratic behavior, Paragus used a device to subdue Broly's temperament.

When free of Paragus's control device, Broly's Saiyan nature becomes dominant. He thirsts for a good fight from an opponent and loves to destroy things, as shown by his destruction of Planet Shamo. He also claimed that if no one had the will to fight him, he would destroy the planet, showcasing his want for a fight (though in the FUNimation dub, he stated that if Goku and Gohan didn't fight back, he understood. However he said that he would destroy the planet anyway). When fully transformed as a Legendary Super Saiyan, Broly seems to acknowledge his malevolence; Piccolo calls him a freak, to which Broly replies that he is not a freak but a devil (this line was cut from the FUNimation dub of the movie, but re-added in subsequent video games). It is suggestive of that even though Broly was driven mad with his birth-given power and the circumstances of his birth, Broly has some sanity of said madness; this may make him a tragic character. Despite the maniacal appearance, Broly has also shown some intelligence while as a Legendary Super Saiyan: he sees through Paragus's lie of telling him that he was preparing for their escape from New Planet Vegeta when Paragus was using a single-seated space pod; he shortly kills him after. He also deduced Paragus's last-minute plan to have him die in the planet's collision with Comet Camori. At least in the dub of his debut, he also possessed a very dark sense of humor: When Goku demanded for a handicap late into the fight, Broly proceeded to sadistically ask him if "handicap" is another word for a coffin. He also seems to have some degree of respect for fighters who attempt to stop him even when the odds are against them, as evidenced by his remark to the Z-Fighters in the Japanese version where he even claimed they were very much worthy of their Saiyan blood (in the FUNimation dub, he says the opposite: he instead taunts them about how they wouldn't be on the ropes if they just let Broly kill them all before denouncing them as worthless wastes of Saiyan Blood). Similarly, he seems to have some loathing of fighters who were all talk and no action, as evidenced by his remark to Vegeta shortly after he ended up quickly defeating them where he called him a "true piece of trash."

Broly's most defining trait is his intense hatred for Goku. While both were newborns, Goku's relentless crying greatly irritated the nearby Broly, sparking the hatred which would grow sub-consciously in his early life and awaken upon seeing Goku again. While under mind-control, and later when his insanity has set in, he often shouts Goku's Saiyan name, "Kakarot", in an exclamatory way.

By the events of Broly Second Coming, his defeat at Goku's hands as well as his severe injuries result in him totally losing his sanity. His speech is now limited to uttering "Kakarot" (except for one rare exception) and he has a diminished almost schizophrenic sense of reality, as he mistakes Goten for a baby Goku even though he already encountered Goku as an adult seven years prior. The only aspect of his mind that seems intact is his sadistic desire for revenge against Goku.

Broly also seems to have a real problem controlling his rage and his powers in his trade-mark Super Saiyan form this means that he could end up destroying himself.

Biography

Background

Bebi Burori

Broly as an infant, bothered by the constant fussing of Kakarot, the baby in a neighboring cradle

Broly was born in Age 737, during the period of intense turmoil between Frieza and the Saiyans. At birth, his most curious feature was his inordinate power level of 10,000. This anomaly meant that by birth, Broly's power had already been close to that of Bardock and King Vegeta at the time of their deaths. In the Saiyan delivery room where he rests afterward, Broly is tormented by the constant crying of his neighbor, Kakarot. Kakarot's crying affected Broly's psychological state of mind, causing him to hold a subconscious grudge against him. The two infants would not meet again for almost three decades.

Broly with Paragus!

Baby Broly saving his father

King Vegeta feared the threat the boy posed to his empire, and so he gave the order for the infant's execution. Broly's father, Paragus, begged the king to spare the child's life, attesting that his son could be an extreme asset to King Vegeta and his son. King Vegeta was quick to point out that while this is true, the same is true that Broly could use his ever-increasing strength to overthrow the Saiyan royal family. King Vegeta closes the argument by sentencing Paragus to death, shooting him with an energy wave. Broly is then stabbed in the chest, and left to die with Paragus.

When Planet Vegeta is destroyed, Broly ascends and uses his powers to shield himself and his father. Broly then sticks with his father as Paragus plots revenge against King Vegeta and the royal family for the sentence they passed on them.

Broly (young)

As Broly developed, it became clear to Paragus that King Vegeta was not unjustified in trying to kill him (though he may not have considered King Vegeta's point). Broly's behavior became

more maniacal and erratic as he matured, due to his power and the traumatic events during his infancy.[6] One such consequence of this was when Broly punched Paragus in the face and blinded him in the left eye.

Broly and Paragus

Paragus prepares to place a crown to control Broly on his forehead

Fearing for his own safety but still unwilling to kill Broly, Paragus used a ring as a special control device to keep Broly under restraint. Paragus narrowly managed to survive adorning Broly with the ring; Broly's calmness vanished as soon as he noticed the crown that Paragus tried to place on his forehead. After successfully doing so, Paragus launched a plan to use Earth as a base of operations for universal domination, and to take revenge on Vegeta by luring him to a planet doomed to be destroyed by a giant comet. During this time, he also used Broly to destroy the remaining planets in the South Galaxy, such being the main cause of the realization of disturbance in the universe from King Kai; this caused him to contact Goku and inform him of the Super Saiyan threat.

Broly encounters Goku, his sworn enemy, for the first time in 30 years

Broly appears to be a quiet and gentle Saiyan until his personality is later dispelled as a charade caused by the suppression of Broly's ring. He accompanies Vegeta to planet Todokama, ironically in search of the Legendary Super Saiyan. When Goku appears at Paragus' palace after warping to New Vegeta using Instant Transmission, Broly starts to fill with rage at the sight of Goku, before his father finally manages to calm him down. However, that night, Broly fails to control himself and goes into a blind rage, attacking Goku in his suppressed Super Saiyan form. The battle is drawn to an early close when Paragus arrives and is able to once again use his control over Broly. This encounter leaves Goku in surprise and certain that Broly is the Legendary Super Saiyan he has been tracking down.

When Vegeta tries to leave the planet with the others and Paragus's plan is exposed, Broly starts to walk toward Goku and utter his name in rage. His headband is destroyed and he transforms into the Legendary Super Saiyan, free of Paragus's control. Vegeta is completely shooked by Broly's ki and Broly proceeds to fight Goku and the others. Enraged beyond control and rampant with insanity, the combined Super Saiyan strength of Goku, Gohan, and Future Trunks are futile. Eventually, Piccolo makes an appearance on the battlefield, but he too provides little help against the unbelievable power of Broly. Soon after, Vegeta dispels his fear and awe over Broly, joining in the fight, only to be quickly outclassed.

Vegeta attacks Broly with an upside down kick

While the devastated Z Fighters lie scattered about the rubble of a fallen city, Broly ties one more loose end by confronting Paragus, who is making an attempt to escape the doomed planet in a Saiyan Pod. Broly ignores the fabricated plight of his father, crushing in his arms the Saiyan Pod, and Paragus with it; he muses that Paragus's plan to have the comet kill him would not work. Goku rises one last time and asks his friends to channel all of their energy into him, Vegeta's energy being the final channeling due to his beliefs that he should not assist a lower-class Saiyan. Broly throws a powerful punch to finish Goku, but with the addition of Vegeta's energy, Goku is able to catch Broly's punch. Goku then emits a powerful ki that causes Broly to step back in fear. Realizing the source of Goku's energy, Broly laughs at the idea of Goku being able to kill him before quickly powering up.

BrolyDashing

The two Saiyans charge each other head on, as the planet begins to break apart beneath them. Broly throws a punch at Goku that misses its mark, while Goku lands a powerful blow to Broly's abdomen. Broly's green ki bursts out from the point of impact, and his skin appears to crack as green light emits from his body. Broly then cries out in astonishment and explodes, seemingly defeated.

In the movie Dragon Ball Z: Broly - Second Coming, it is revealed that Broly survived his defeat at the hands of Goku, and managed to make a frantic escape in a Space Pod as New Planet Vegeta is demolished by Comet Camori. Over time the pod finally reaches Earth, soon after which Broly collapses from exhaustion and enters a sort of coma, where for seven years the elements expand around him. His landing on Earth also indirectly caused some trouble at a nearby village. Eventually, he is awakened underneath a thick pool of ice by the incessant cries of a nearby Goten.

Super Saiyan Broly confronts Goten and Trunks

After escaping this grave, Broly becomes stronger than before due to the near death experience. He resumes his vendetta against his fellow Saiyans, particularly Goten, due to his resemblance to Goku, and later Gohan. However, Broly's sanity has been breached so heavily since the encounter on New Planet Vegeta that he fails to tell Goten and Gohan apart from their now deceased father.

Despite Goten being Broly's main target, Videl and Trunks fall victim to his brutal rampage as well, until Gohan arrives at the scene and is astonished to find himself reunited with the Legendary Super Saiyan. Broly's uncoordinated attempts to take revenge are unsuccessful, and he is ultimately launched into the Sun by a Family Kamehameha fired by Gohan, Goten and the spirit of Goku, apparently ending the life of the mighty Saiyan once and for all.

However after the Z Fighters leave Natade Village and the priest Maloja is kicked out, he discovers Broly's Attack Ball and manages to obtain a sample of Broly's blood which he turns over to the wealthy industrialist Lord Jaguar, who provides it to Dr. Collie and his team of scientists, which they use to create Broly's mutant clone, Bio-Broly.

Super Saiyan 4 Broly arrives

In the Dragon Ball Heroes: Victory Mission manga, thanks to the time manipulating properties of Capsule Corp's arcade machines Broly appears as an antagonist under the command of Genome. Broly - in his Super Saiyan 4 state - hunts down each of the Shadow Dragons in order to take their Dragon Balls. He finds Eis Shenron and defeats him using a Ruthless Blow-like attack and takes him away. He then arrives at Basaku, Kagyu, and Nuova Shenron's location, defeating Basaku and Kagyu, and destroying Nuova Shenron and taking his Four-Star Dragon Ball. Broly then encounters the Dragon Ball Heroes team and reveals that he has collected the Three-Star and Four-Star Dragon Balls and eats them in order to keep them away from the Dragon Ball Heroes. Super Saiyan 4 Broly then begins fighting with Super Class Froze and Super Class Beat, Froze attempts to defeat Broly using his Spirits Excalibur, but the Legendary Super Saiyan is unscathed by the attack and grabs Froze, attacking him with his Bone Crusher bear hug technique. Beat transforms into a Super Saiyan 3 and heavily punches Broly, though it does no damage, so Beat rapid fires punches at him, however, they still do nothing and Broly smashes him away before preparing and throwing a Double Eraser Cannon at Beat and his allies. With the entire team defeated, Broly takes the Two-Star Dragon Ball from Froze and leaves.

He later appears at the Shadow Dragon headquarters, where it is revealed he is working for Genome, he meets Rage Shenron and fights him, even after Rage Shenron powers up using his Electric Slime Body Build, Broly defeats him using an attack similar to Penetrate!, and then on Genome's order grabs him and smashes him into the ground, destroying him.

While Beat trains to face Broly, Genome locates the Dragon Ball Heroes and reveals that while he had originally planned to spare them, he needs to kill them in order to gain the One-Star Dragon Ball. Kagyu however reveals that he also needs the Four-Star Dragon Ball, as the one that Broly had taken was a fake, and Nuova Shenron was on their side.

Broly about to be sent back to the Battle on Namek

The Future Warrior arrives in Age 774 to find Legendary Super Saiyan Broly confronting Goten, Trunks, and Videl. Broly yells "Kakarot!" and transforms into Dark Broly due to Démigra's Dark Magic. Soon Gohan arrives to help combat Broly. They manage to defeat him, but he then disappears.

Broly on namek

Broly stares down Bardock on the dying Planet Namek

Broly is transported to Age 762, to part of the dying Planet Namek (an area nowhere near where Frieza and Goku are having their climactic battle), where he encounters Bardock, who was sent to that time by Mira in order to save him from Frieza. The Future Warrior arrives and he and Bardock fight Broly. As they are fighting, the wish to move everyone from Namek to Earth (other than Goku and Frieza, who are fighting on another part of the planet) is completed and they are transported to a desert area on Earth. Broly knocks Bardock away and fights the Future Warrior, however, Bardock returns as a Great Ape to assist. Vegeta also arrives, having just been transported off Namek himself and watches the battle in awe. After a short time, Vegeta decides to join the battle against Broly. The combined might of the three warriors is enough to overcome the Legendary Super Saiyan, as Broly is defeated and killed.

Extracting every drop of potential from his Saiyan blood, Broly returns as a Legendary Super Saiyan 3, thirsting for revenge, at some point after being defeated by the combined Kamehameha of Gohan, Goten, and Goku according to the biography of Super Saiyan 3 Broly in Dragon Ball: Raging Blast 2.

Shin Budokai

"On the verge of death, just as the world perished, I ascended... So I owe my life to you?! HAHAHA!"
— Broly confronting Frieza in Dragon Ball Z: Shin Budokai

In Shin Budokai, Broly is revived along with other villains. When first encountering him, Gohan comments that Broly is extremely dangerous and should be wiped out, after which a battle ensues. Gohan gets worn out soon, then both Tien Shinhan and Yamcha arrive. Tien and Yamcha distract Broly, so Gohan can continue with his quest. Later, Broly encounters the Gohan from the past, and it ends with an undecided winner. Broly later senses Goku and goes to fight him, Broly fights Goku and Goku proves unable to defeat him, even as a Super Saiyan 2, so he escapes from him.

Broly later encounters Android 18, who is busy collecting the Dragon Balls. Broly remarks that it is "such a tiny jewel". Broly and #18 battle, with #18 getting tired, she then flees, only for the both of them to encounter Frieza. Frieza wonders and asks who of them has the Dragon Balls, with #18 replying that Broly has them (while it in fact #18 has them). Frieza is shocked that another Saiyan survived, and Broly himself is amused that he owes his life to Frieza. Broly and Frieza then battle each other, However Broly goes after Android 18 again and attacks her, forcing her to hide from him, Frieza catches up and 18 tricks Broly into fighting Frieza again. Frieza wins the fight and kills Broly, then Frieza continues pursuing Android 18 for the Dragon Balls.

Later in Hell, Broly finds and confronts Goku and Vegeta, while Vegeta heads off to help face Buu and Janemba, Goku has a last battle with Broly and ultimately defeats him, incapacitating him and stopping him from pursuing them, though Goku uses up almost all of his energy in the fight and requires a Senzu Bean afterwards.

Power

Movies

Prior to Broly being revealed as the Legendary Super Saiyan, and in large part because of Paragus restraining Broly's power to his base form via his crown, Paragus claims that Broly's power level is weaker than his own, with Future Trunks confirming this. Broly's ki in his Super Saiyan form was strong enough to be barely sensed from King Kai's planet while he was causing destruction in the South Galaxy. While he was in his Legendary Super Saiyan form, Broly's ki is potent enough to be sensed all the way from Kami's Lookout on Earth from New Planet Vegeta. While in his Super Saiyan form, he is able to make Goku struggle a little bit, although he is restrained by Paragus' headband. When in Legendary Super Saiyan form, he is stronger than Goku, Gohan, Future Trunks and Vegeta as Super Saiyans and Piccolo after he has fused with Kami; he easily beats all five of them around. However, the channeling of their ki into Goku proves superior to his Legendary Super Saiyan form. His physical strength in this form was also enough to effortlessly crush Paragus' attack ball, which was heavily armored. Even when Piccolo and Goku both barrage Broly with punches and kicks, Broly takes no damage, and if anything effortlessly dodged their combined front, and wipes them aside. Perhaps most tellingly, he purposely took a point-blank Super Kamehameha from Super Saiyan Goku, and not only emerged completely unscathed, but laughed the attack off. In Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans, Goku states that base Hatchiyack may be even stronger than Legendary Super Saiyan Broly (from Broly - The Legendary Super Saiyan). It is stated by Vegeta that he is the most powerful saiyan in all of history.

After gaining a Zenkai in his second movie appearance, Gohan states that Super Saiyan Broly is just as much of a challenge as before, suggesting that his Super Saiyan state in the movie was of comparable power to his Legendary Super Saiyan state from his previous appearance. In his Legendary Super Saiyan form he is able to defeat Super Saiyan 2 Gohan without any difficulty. However, the full power of the Family Kamehameha used by Super Saiyans Goku, Gohan, and Goten was powerful enough to push Broly into the sun. The English teaser trailer for Broly - Second Coming also refers to him as the "strongest being in the universe" (at the time the fat Majin Buu was the strongest character known to exist in the Dragon Ball universe, suggesting that, at least in Funimation's version, Broly may be more powerful than him).[7]

In addition, Broly also was shown to possess exceptional stamina, being capable of surviving grievous wounds that would have normally killed other individuals. These included being stabbed in the heart during the time of his infancy and being punched in the abdomen by an empowered Goku and then forcibly exploding at the end of their fight. Due to his Saiyan genes, he inevitably grew much stronger during these times.

Non-Toriyama manga

In Dragon Ball Heroes: Victory Mission, Super Saiyan 4 Broly is shown to be strong enough to easily defeat Eis Shenron, Nuova Shenron (true form), and Rage Shenron (Electric Slime Body Build) with only a few blows, and is completely unharmed following his fights with them.

Statements by authors and guidebooks

It is stated in Daizenshuu 6 that after his revival and resultant Zenkai, Super Saiyan Broly's power surpasses that of Super Saiyan Goku[5] Additionally, it is stated that Legendary Super Saiyan Broly is a foe with bottomless power.[5]

According to Takao Koyama, the writer for the first thirteen Dragon Ball Z films, Broly is the most powerful of the movie antagonists that preceded him. However, Koyama went on to state that Broly was a pushover compared to Beerus.[8] A misconception based on Koyama's words is that Broly is the most powerful of all of the first thirteen movie villains, but this is likely not the case. Takao Koyama said about Broly "In handling the scripts for the films, what I always worried about each time was the problem of what to do about the opponent Goku fights against. That’s because, at the very least, they had to be stronger than [the ones from] the previous movie."

Promotional material for Dragon Ball: Xenoverse 2 states that Broly is the fighter recognized by everyone to have the highest power.[9]

Video games

Broly's profile in Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi refers to Legendary Super Saiyan Broly as "the greatest, most powerful adversary" out of the villains in that game, which includes Strongest Form 2 Baby Vegeta and Super Buu (Gohan absorbed).

V2

Legendary Super Saiyan Broly's power level listed at 1,400,000,000 in V-Jump

In Dragon Ball: Xenoverse, it is stated by Future Trunks that when Legendary Super Saiyan Broly becomes infected by Demigra's Dark Magic, his power multiplies by several folds.

In Dragon Ball: Raging Blast 2, it is stated in Super Saiyan 3 Broly's profile that he actually survived being launched into the sun and the zenkai obtained from this event allowed him to take on a legendary Super Saiyan 3 form. He was however still defeated when he attacked Earth once more. Promotional material for one boss mission in Dragon Ball Heroes references Super Saiyan 3 Broly as being stronger than Full Power Frieza, Hatchiyack, Super Perfect Cell, and Super Buu (Gohan absorbed).

In the reveal trailer for his Super Saiyan 4 form in Dragon Ball Heroes, Broly is able to defeat Super Saiyan 4 Goku (GT), Super Saiyan 4 Vegeta (GT), Super Saiyan 3 Gotenks (GT), Mr. Satan, Piccolo, and all of the Super Class avatars, without taking any injuries. In the JM7 animated trailer, Broly easily fights on par with Super Saiyan 4 Goku, Super Saiyan 4 Vegeta, Super Saiyan 3 Beat, Super Saiyan 3 Note, and Super Pikkon, with the heroes struggling in their fight against him. Promotional material also states that his Super Saiyan 4 form is "the appearance of an even stronger warrior", suggesting he may be more powerful than any previous character in Dragon Ball Heroes, and calls him an "ultimate warrior".

When encountered as a secret boss at the time of the Vegeta Saga in the Nintendo DS game Dragon Ball Z: Attack of the Saiyans, Legendary Super Saiyan Broly's power level is 999,999, the highest possible in the game. His official power level as a Legendary Super Saiyan in Movie 8, is around 1,400,000,000 according to a 2004 V-Jump announcing his appearance in Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 3, as well as in the video game Dragon Ball Z: Scouter Battle Taikan Kamehameha.

In the opening scene for Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3, Legendary Super Saiyan Broly is seen fighting on par with Super Gogeta, and later on par with Ultimate Gohan. In that same form, he is shown battling on par with Super Gogeta as well in the opening scene for Budokai 3.

Broly powering up while in his mind-controlled Super Saiyan form

During Broly's first psychotic outburst wherein he pursues Goku, he transforms into a Super Saiyan, although his appearance in the form differs as a result of his crown restraint. In this mind-controlled Super Saiyan form, Broly's muscles swell slightly, his hair assumes a neon blue hue with purple tint (completely purple if in a dark environment, such as his first fight with Goku), and his skin pigment is dulled, additionally, he does not gain as much power as he would in his true Super Saiyan form - this form is called Super Saiyan (A type).[10] In Broly - Second Coming, Broly's regular Super Saiyan transformation makes its onscreen debut (in the previous movie, his Super Saiyan form without control device was only seen in a flashback), this form is referred to as Super Saiyan (C type).[10]

BrolySSNV03

Broly's regular Super Saiyan form, without the control device

In both versions of this form, Broly seems to gain an unflinching response to attacks. This is first seen when he attacks Goku and is completely unfazed by everything that Goku throws at him. This is especially evident when Goku lands a kick to Broly's face, slightly bloodying his mouth, only for Broly to shrug off the injury completely and lick the blood off his mouth. This unflinching response reappears later on when Super Saiyan Vegeta throws a kick directly to his neck followed by a powerful energy blast to Broly's back, both of which have no effect whatsoever. Also, from what is shown of Broly's regular Super Saiyan form, he is strong enough to take down Goten and Trunks as Super Saiyans without much effort, as evidenced by how easily he knocks Goten and Trunks out of their Super Saiyan forms at one point in the battle.

Legendary Super Saiyan

Broly transformed as the Legendary Super Saiyan in Broly: The Legendary Super Saiyan

As the Legendary Super Saiyan, Broly's strength and speed extraordinarily excel that of any Super Saiyan shown previously. Broly's height and muscle mass also increase by a great amount after transforming; during his transformation, his skin cracks and peels back to reveal green-colored energy in his body. His power level also rises on several occasions found throughout the film, though whether this is caused by the form or if it is simply Broly increasing his power level is up to debate. Additionally, the irises and pupils in his eyes disappear, and his hair changes to a light-green color. This form is alternatively called Super Saiyan (B type)[10] or Super Saiyan (Final Form).

This form is also one that it is genetically unique to Broly (and his clone Bio-Broly) due to being a birth-given power. Since the power level in this form is so vast, Broly has been shown to take extremely powerful attacks without so much as flinching, such as a point-blank Kamehameha from Goku. Broly showcases his strength in this form by destroying Planet Shamo with a single energy sphere. The form's effectiveness is shown in full force as he fought two Full-Power Super Saiyans, two Super Saiyans, and a Super Namek all at the same time while remaining in control of the whole fight, with his opponents being unable to hurt him in the least. It isn't until Goku uses the channeled ki of Gohan, Piccolo, Future Trunks and Vegeta that Broly is beaten for the first time in this form.

He reappears on Earth during Broly - Second Coming, where Gohan can hardly hold his own against the Legendary Super Saiyan. In his Super Saiyan 2 transformation, Gohan is able to inflict some damage to Broly, but not enough to shift the battle in his favor. During the battle, Broly is also capable of surviving lava as a Legendary Super Saiyan, as shown when he emerges from a lava pool shortly after Gohan tricked him into being caught in it in a last ditch effort of defeating him.

Destruction King Broly as a Legendary Super Saiyan debuts in the seventh mission of the Jaaku Mission series (JM7), although he is not a playable character so far.

He has great muscle mass, eyes which lack pupils and a greenish hair color (dark green in Raging Blast 2). Broly's form is referred to as Legendary Super Saiyan 3 in one of the early trailers for Raging Blast, in which Goku exclaims "Densetsu Supa Saiya-jin Suri!" (which translates to "Legendary Super Saiyan 3!"). However, he is simply referred to as "Super Saiyan 3 Broly" within the game. In the Raging Blast games, Broly as a Super Saiyan 3 is a separate character from Broly with his movie transformations. He makes his debut using this form in the eighth mission of the original series (before GM series).

Broly reappears as a Super Saiyan 4 Full Power during the Assault on the Hell Gate Saga. After leaving Hell, he apparently kills the leaders of the Time Breakers, then immediately fights the heroes but is defeated once more. The scar on his chest is a result of his childhood injury and in this state his veins are much more prominent, which represents how he is stronger and angrier than before.

Super Saiyan 4 Full Power Broly makes his debut in the fifth mission of the God Mission series (GDM5) as an enemy and his card appears as a Secret card in GDM6.

Broly is the movie character that appears in the highest number of video games, 18 in total. He made his first playable appearance in Dragon Ball Z: Super Butōden 2 (a cheat code is required to access him in the Japanese dub). In the Story Mode, he appears to kill Bojack if the Z Fighters fail to defeat him, and attacks the Z Fighters under certain conditions.

Broly has since featured in Dragon Ball Z: Taiketsu, Dragon Ball Z: Buu's Fury, four installments of the Budokai series (Budokai 3, Shin Budokai, Shin Budokai - Another Road, and Infinite World), Dragon Ball Z: Sagas, Dragon Ball Z: Scouter Battle Taikan Kamehameha, Dragon Ball Z: Supersonic Warriors 2, all installments of the Budokai Tenkaichi series, Dragon Ball Z: Bakuretsu Impact, Dragon Ball Z: W Bakuretsu Impact, Dragon Ball Z: Burst Limit, Dragon Ball Z: Dragon Battlers, the Raging Blast games, Dragon Ball Kai: Ultimate Butōden, Dragon Ball Z: Ultimate Tenkaichi, Dragon Ball: Zenkai Battle Royale, Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Z, Dragon Ball Xenoverse and Dragon Ball Z: Extreme Butoden. In the Budokai 3 and Budokai Tenkaichi 3 intro, Broly is shown fighting on par with Super Gogeta. Broly has the largest percentage increase in Budokai 3 and Infinite World. He starts on 100% and after he transforms, he has 120%. Also in Budokai 3 and Infinite World, when Broly walks and jumps the screen rumbles slightly. He has his own story mode in Budokai 3 where he re-enacts the events of Broly - The Second Coming; if one takes a separate route, he can also kill Goku, leading to the alternate ending where he leaves the galaxy in ruins.

Future Broly is an antagonist in Shin Budokai - Another Road, in which the Z Fighters go to the aid of Future Trunks in his struggle with Future Majin Buu. Future Broly allies himself with the forces of Future Babidi, but is defeated in the climactic final battle with the Z Fighters, and he and Future Cooler are then absorbed by Future Super Buu.

Broly's Super Saiyan 3 appearance in Raging Blast

In the Budokai Tenkaichi 2 adaptation of the Majin Buu Saga, Broly can be fought in the Ice Flow region of the game's adventure mode, possibly as a reference to his being stuck underneath a thick pool of ice in Dragon Ball Z: Broly - Second Coming. Interestingly, he is also fought in the same area during the game's Dragon Ball GT storyline adaptation, despite his having been killed at the climax Second Coming as well. In Budokai Tenkaichi 3, Broly's color changes are based on his appearances in the first and second Broly films, respectively. In Burst Limit, Broly defeats Super Saiyan 2 Gohan, yet after defeating Goku, Goku transforms into a Super Saiyan 2, although the fight is left inconclusive.

He then has Goku fight Broly, only for it to inevitably backfire on him due to his hatred breaking Gero's hold on him, similar to Broly's father before him. His Super Saiyan 3 transformation was shown to be making a return in Raging Blast 2 on July 22, 2010. In Raging Blast 2, the player can unlock an image of Super Saiyan 3 Broly, which looks like it was taken from the series/movie. Supersonic Warriors 2

Broly has three scenarios in the Supersonic Warriors 2.

In the first scenario, Paragus comes to Earth early and tricks Vegeta into coming to New Planet Vegeta alone, Broly then defeats Vegeta. However, during the time when Broly and Paragus were not on New Planet Vegeta, Frieza and his empire took over the planet and Frieza stationed his Saiyan minions there before going to Earth, only to be killed by Trunks, so Cooler began utilising New Planet Vegeta as his base. After Broly kills Vegeta they discover Cooler and his soldiers on the planet, Broly fights and kills Cooler and his armored squadron and destroys New Planet Vegeta. Paragus and Broly then began building an empire, however, since all the Saiyans are dead Cell was able to easily achieve his perfect form on Earth, Broly senses Cell and his anger causes Paragus to decide to take him so he could deal with the Bio-Androids. Broly defeats Cell and destroys him, however, unbeknownst to the two Babidi had been taking energy from the battle and transferring it to Majin Buu in order to wake him up. Buu wakes up and fights Broly, however he too is defeated and Broly kills both Buu and Babidi.

In the second scenario, Broly fights all of the Z Fighters and defeats them, however they escape to Earth and New Planet Vegeta is hit by the comet, Broly escapes in his spacepod and arrives on Earth several years later, landing at a spot where Goten and Trunks are playing, Broly thinks Goten is Goku and attacks, so the two fuse into Gotenks, only to be defeated. They flee to get help from Gohan, who is teaching Videl how to fly, Broly fights and defeats Gohan, but then Goku's spirit appears and he and his sons fire Kamehamehas at Broly, he brushes them off but is hit by lava and submerged beneath it. The Z Fighters think he has been defeated, but in reality he survives and swears revenge.

In the third scenario Broly escapes from New Planet Vegeta as it is about to be destroyed and years later lands on Earth (after the defeat of Kid Buu), crashing into an area near Satan City, he hits his head hard and loses his memories other than his own name. Mr. Satan finds him and helps him, Android 18 soon arrives and angrily tries to get Mr. Satan to pay the prize money of the World Tournament she had thrown for him, Broly is angry that she is threatening Mr. Satan and defeats her. Mr. Satan then realizes Broly's power, takes Broly as his "disciple", organizes a tag team tournament, and enter with Broly. The two enter and face off against Krillin, Tien, and Yamcha in the first round, with Krillin recognising Broly but not recalling who he is. Broly defeats the three and he and Mr. Satan are to face off against Goku, Vegeta, and Gohan, the three recognize Broly and Broly regains his memories, powering up into the Legendary Super Saiyan and fighting the three, he defeats them but before he goes on a rampage Mr. Satan manages to calm him down. Broly then lives peacefully on Earth with Mr. Satan and the Z Fighters, but still gets excited whenever Goku is around.

Dragon Ball: Xenoverse

Broly appears in Toki Toki City looking for anyone willing to challenge him. If the Future Warrior accepts then they can access Parallel Quest 51: "Heated, Furious, Ultimate Battle" where they will fight against Broly in mission that plays out like Dragon Ball Z: Broly - The Legendary Super Saiyan. If Broly is defeated and Goku manages to survive than the mission will continue and Warrior will then face Broly in Villainous Mode and defeating him will result in an Ultimate Finish.

In the Legendary Super Saiyan Saga, in Age 774 Broly falls under the influence of Demigra's Wormhole and is granted the power of Villainous Mode. Dark Broly attacks Goten, Trunks, and Videl near Natade Village. The Future Warrior having arrived in search of the time displaced Bardock who had been swallowed up by the wormhole in Age 737 comes to their aid against Dark Broly. However, due to Dark Broly's power they are unable to defeat him and Future Trunks suggests they hold Dark Broly off until Gohan arrives. Eventually Gohan arrives to help the Warrior in defeating Dark Broly. However, before they can finish him off, Broly is swallowed up by the same wormhole that swallowed Bardock.

Later it is revealed that both Dark Broly and Bardock were transported to Dying Namek in Age 762 during Super Saiyan Goku and Frieza's historic battle. Due to his ability to see the future, Bardock realizes that Dark Broly has been transported there to kill his son and aware that his son is the one who will defeat Frieza and avenge the Saiyans, stands against Dark Broly to prevent him from interfering with history. The Future Warrior arrives and is informed of the situation by Future Trunks. Together Bardock and the Warrior team up to stop Dark Broly. However Dende's wish to transport everyone to Earth save for Frieza and Goku results in Dark Broly, Bardock, and the Future Warrior being transported to Earth.

On Earth, Dark Broly attacks Bardock while he is distracted due to finding himself on Earth, knocking Bardock away. The Future Warrior is forced to face Dark Broly alone while Bardock encounters Vegeta who had sensed the fight. Suddenly Bardock returns in his Great Ape form after having Vegeta create a Power Ball. Together Great Ape Bardock and the Future Warrior attack Dark Broly together once more and are soon joined by Vegeta who's pride causes him to join them in combatting the Legendary Super Saiyan. Eventually the three manage to defeat Dark Broly. To prevent Vegeta from asking too many questions, Future Trunks knocks him out and reveals that Dark Broly is not dead just unconscious, as are Bardock and Vegeta. Future Trunks tells the Future Warrior he will handle returning Bardock and Broly to their respective eras.

Trivia

  • Broly's name is a pun on the literal vegetable broccoli, which is even referenced in Broly - The Legendary Super Saiyan when a drunk Master Roshi calls him "Broccoli".
  • Directly before he transforms, you can see Broly's cheeks quiver and then simply rip apart. The same for his eye sockets and chest. It seems that instead of simply enlarging when he transforms, the Legendary Super Saiyan form bursts forth from his body. This may explain why his skin tone becomes incredibly pale and gray-tinged.
  • Despite being mentioned at the conclusion of Bio-Broly that he is a resident of Hell, Broly does not make an appearance in Dragon Ball Z: Fusion Reborn or the Super 17 Saga of Dragon Ball GT, when the residents of Hell make their escape to Earth. He does, however, escape from Hell a few times in Dragon Ball Z: Shin Budokai.
  • Broly and Cooler are the only movie villains to appear in more than one Dragon Ball Z film as the main villain.
  • Aside from flashbacks to his infancy, Broly lacks a Saiyan tail despite Akira Toriyama's character design sheets of him depicting him with a tail even in adult form. It can be fit into the story's point-of-view that Broly's tail might have been removed at some point during his life due to the severe threat he could pose as a Great Ape. As most Saiyans (excluding Goku and Gohan) tend to wrap their tails around in a belt fashion when they are not in need of it, Broly may have done the same and it is never seen because of Broly's belt covering it (which may explain why Toriyama's design sheets of Broly also had one design of his tail). The matured Bio-Broly, before being deformed by corrosive culture fluid, appears to sport a tail, providing some insight to how a fully developed Broly would have looked with a tail.
  • Broly was the only villain - apart from Final Form Frieza - against whom, after realising his power, Vegeta felt truly helpless. This is clearly evident as when Piccolo attempts to persuade him, he just states that fighting him would be pointless because they could not win, and simply kneels there feeling the battle to be lost.
  • In Dragon Ball Xenoverse, Broly appears in Tokitoki City for a mission the Future Warrior can participate in. If the Warrior is a Majin, he'll remark how they look cute.
