His facial expression, even before wearing the crown, had a melancholic demeanor to it. He is shirtless while wearing white pants with a red sash draped around his waist and secured by a yellow belt with a blue gem-center. He also wears similar yellow boots with a blue gem at the top the front. It is implied that the outfit was made of a similar material to the Battle Armor, regardless of what size-increasing transformation he used, his clothing always remained intact and grew in size with him.

To better control Broly and his power as his mental-instability continued to grow, Paragus placed a crown on Broly's forehead, along with wristbands and a necklace with a flat plate over the chest, each which are golden with a blue gem. Broly also wore golden bands over his biceps. After breaking free from Paragas' control, Broly's crown and armbands were destroyed. After Broly's defeat against Goku, he obtained scorch marks across his chest.

When free of Paragus' control device, Broly's Saiyan nature becomes dominant. His thirst for combat and desire for death and destruction of things is unyielding, as shown by his destruction of Planet Shamo. Paragus also implies that his lust for combat, death, and destruction was at a scale far above even the typical Saiyan. Broly seems to acknowledge his malevolence; Piccolo calls him a freak, to which Broly replies that he actually is a devil (the FUNimation dub for the film tones this down slightly while at the same time getting the implications across by having Piccolo in the aforementioned scene accusing Broly of attacking children first in a disgusted tone, as well as Broly responding that he merely does what is needed to be done, before telling him that the Namekian should have expected that from "a true freak."). It is suggestive that even though Broly was driven mad with his birth-given power and the various circumstances of his birth, Broly has some sanity of said madness as he has also shown a high degree intelligence while on his rampage: he sees through Paragus' lies and plan for having him die in the planet's collision with Comet Camori, as well as briefly engaging in ambushes against Gohan, Goku, and Future Trunks within the ruined city and successfully catching them off guard, and also deducing right before his first defeat that Goku's increase in power had been due to donations from his allies. A similar display of intellect was also demonstrated in the Victory Mission manga, where he, in a similar manner to King Piccolo, proceeded to devour two Dragon Balls in front of Beat and Froze, and then forces them to fight against him, knowing full well they can't actually harm him. Also (in the FUNimation dub at least), he has a very dark sense of humor: When Goku demanded a handicap during the fight, Broly proceeded to sadistically ask him if "handicap" is another word for a coffin. He also had a more sarcastic sense of humor, at least in the Funimation dub, such being evident before he destroyed Planet Shamo, where he remarked that the Shamoian slaves decided to show bravery despite their being huddled together in complete fear at the time. He also seems to have some degree of respect for fighters who attempt to stop him even when the odds are against them, as evidenced by his remark to the Z Fighters in the Japanese version where he even claimed they were very much worthy of their Saiyan blood (in the FUNimation dub, he says the opposite: he instead calling them wastes of Saiyan Blood). Similarly, he seems to have some loathing of fighters who were all talk and no action, as evidenced by his remark to Vegeta shortly after he ended up quickly defeating them where he called him a "true piece of trash." Although largely lacking self-restraint, he nonetheless was implied in the Japanese version to hold just enough to hold off destroying New Planet Vegeta to allow Goku and the other Z Fighters a chance to fight with everything they had (although this was mostly because his Saiyan instincts demanded him to have a fight).

Although largely lacking self-restraint, he nonetheless was implied in the Japanese version to hold just enough to hold off destroying New Planet Vegeta to allow Goku and the other Z Fighters a chance to fight with everything they had (although this was mostly because his Saiyan instincts demanded him to have a fight). Largely because of his true nature as the Legendary Super Saiyan, he acted as one of the few people Vegeta was initially terrified of, with other contenders being Frieza and Beerus, to the extent that he was initially completely unwilling to fight and even desperately demanded the other Z-Fighters cease their attacks on him due to it being futile.

Broly's most defining trait is his intense hatred for Goku. While both were newborns, Goku's relentless crying greatly irritated the nearby Broly, sparking the hatred which would grow sub-consciously in his early life and awaken upon seeing Goku again. It is implied that the reason behind his hatred for Goku is because he subconsciously associated Goku's incessant crying with the horrific things he had to endure later on such as narrowly surviving the execution and barely escaping Planet Vegeta's destruction, and thus blamed Goku for these things. While under mind-control, and later when his insanity has set in, he often shouts Goku's Saiyan name, "Kakarot", in an exclamatory way. Although he generally addresses Goku by his Saiyan name, he has referred to him by his Earth name twice, both times during their fight on New Planet Vegeta (at least in the English dub). Despite his hatred of Goku, however, the Japanese version of Movie 8 implies that he at least respects Goku's resolve to try and stop him regardless of the low odds of doing so, due to calling him and the other Z-Fighters "worthy of their Saiyan blood." Although not to the same extent as Goku, it is implied that Broly has a similar low opinion of Vegeta, as in the Japanese version when Vegeta regains enough of his bravado to try and attack Broly, the latter coldly states he has no intention of letting Vegeta have an easy kill against him.

King Vegeta feared the threat the boy posed to his empire, and so he gave the order for the infant's execution. Broly's father, Paragus, begged the king to spare the child's life, attesting that his son could be an extremely valuable asset to King Vegeta and his son. King Vegeta was quick to point out that while this is true, the same is true that Broly could use his ever-increasing strength to overthrow the Saiyan royal family. King Vegeta closes the argument by sentencing Paragus to death, shooting him with an energy wave. Broly is then stabbed in the chest and left to die with Paragus.

When Planet Vegeta is destroyed, Broly ascends and uses his powers to shield himself and his father. Ironically, the destruction of Planet Vegeta had been orchestrated by Frieza for exactly the same reason why King Vegeta tried to execute Broly earlier: Due to fear of the Legendary Super Saiyan rising up and overthrowing him. Broly then sticks with his father as Paragus plots revenge against King Vegeta and the royal family for the sentence they passed on them.

Fearing for his own safety but still unwilling to kill Broly, Paragus used a ring as a special control device to keep Broly under restraint. Paragus narrowly managed to survive adorning Broly with the ring; Broly's calmness vanished as soon as he noticed the crown that Paragus tried to place on his forehead. Dragon Ball Z: Broly - The Legendary Super Saiyan

Broly (ブロリー Burorī) is the main antagonist in the Broly Triple Threat trilogy. He appears to be the latest of the Legendary Super Saiyans who appears every thousand years.[6]

Appearance

Broly(Daiz6)

Concept arts for Broly from Daizenshuu 6

Broly is a light-skinned Saiyan with dark eyes and black spiky hair reaching his mid-back with short bangs framing his forehead. When he was a kid, he wore a black one-strap tunic with gray pants and brown boots, alongside a rope belt and bracelets. As an adult, Broly is towering man with a lean but well-built frame.

After breaking free from Paragas' control, Broly's crown, neckband and armbands were destroyed. After Broly's defeat against Goku, he obtained scorch marks across his chest.

Personality

"He was a true warrior, born with the strength and clout that would make most Saiyan fathers proud. But there was something far darker about him. Violent, threatening, and in time it began to scare me. I had no choice but to have a scientist craft a device that would control his power."
Paragus reminiscing on Broly's true nature.

When first seen, Broly is seen as a rather docile and harmless-looking Saiyan (uncharacteristic of a majority of the Saiyan race). However, Broly has an unpredictable dual nature, as indicated in Paragus's flashback, when he briefly wakes up and calmly asks what Paragus is up to, only to end up going into a screaming fit when realizing that Paragus is about to place the mind-control crown on his head. Once shifting into his more aggressive state, Broly demonstrates his love of fighting and brutality just like the typical Saiyan, but on a far more destructive level. This violent and maniacal side of him seemingly stemmed from both his extraordinary power that he never properly learned to control as well as the traumatic events of his birth, causing his frenzies to happen more frequently and last longer as he grew and these eventually led him to gouge out his father's left eye. Largely because of his insanity, Broly was also known to get hysterical when causing destruction or going into a frenzy, such being especially evident in Paragus's flashback where Broly after destroying a cityscape as a child is seen laughing uncontrollably, even while being physically restrained by Paragus. Broly also seems to have a real problem controlling his rage, meaning that he could end up destroying himself. In an effort to control his erratic behavior, Paragus used a device to subdue Broly's temperament.

Broly (young)

Paragus attempting to restrain his dangerous son, Broly

When free of Paragus' control device, Broly's Saiyan nature becomes dominant. His thirst for combat and desire for death and destruction is unyielding, as shown by his destruction of Planet Shamo.

By the events of his second movie, his defeat at Goku's hands as well as his severe injuries results in him totally losing his sanity. His speech is now limited to uttering "Kakarot" (except for one rare exception) and he has a diminished sense of reality, as he mistakes Goten for a baby Goku even though he already encountered Goku as an adult seven years prior, and also mistook Gohan for an adult Goku. Xenoverse 2 implies that another reason for his mistaking them for Goku was because they carried a similar scent to him. The only aspect of his mind that seems intact is his sadistic desire for revenge against Goku. It is implied in Bio-Broly that his hatred for Goku is so great that it has become ingrained in him to the genetic level as his clone Bio-Broly seemingly inherited his hatred and habit of saying "Kakarot!", indicating he passed it on to his clone through some form of genetic memory.

Interestingly, in a what-if scenario in Supersonic Warriors 2, Broly loses his memory and becomes more subdued (in a manner much like Goku) and is found by Mr. Satan whom he befriends. Though he later regains his memory after encountering Goku at the World Tournament he and Mr. Satan were participating in and transforms. His memory of Mr. Satan's friendship stops him from killing Goku and destroying the Earth, and it is implied that he managed to learn to how to control his darker impulses, allowing him to live a peaceful life on Earth in a manner similar to Good Buu, indicating that Broly may have turned out differently were it not for his hellish life and the influence of his father. Similarly, another storyline involving Broly, where Broly and Paragus successfully managed to take out the Z-Fighters, had Broly upon conquering the Earth acting as a sort of "defender" of the planet against various threats to Earth such as Cell and Majin Buu and also has a (comparatively) better relationship with Paragus.

In Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2, it is revealed he has committed the scents of both Kakarot and Vegeta to his memory. In Xenoverse 2, he retains his hatred of Goku and is obsessed with finding him. He treats the Future Warrior like a plaything and a slave (presumably due to his father's influence as Paragus had an army of henchmen) stating how he will kill them and destroy the city. However, like all villain instructors, his destructive tendencies are toned down, even planning to leave the city to go destroy a planet elsewhere to blow off steam which is one of the few times Broly has shown any semblance of restraint as he could have simply destroyed Conton City.

Additionally, he will respect the Saiyan Future Warrior if they complete his training even stating they may be worthy of their Saiyan blood after all, just like he said to the Z Fighters in the Japanese version of Broly - The Legendary Super Saiyan. Similarly, during the DLC storyline for the Infinite History saga, despite making clear that he only is participating in the mission to fix the rift in order to find Kakarot, he nonetheless agreed to accompany his student to do the mission. He is confused when the Future Warrior asks how they plan to destroy the planet he was planning to destroy and simply states that if one attacks something enough it is sure to crumble, showing that his thinking when it comes to fighting is straightforward and violently simplistic. He also disagrees with Turles' assertion that real Saiyan warriors have finesse, arguing rather accurately that "Saiyans don't care about finesse, only battle", showing he has a good insight into his own innate Saiyan drives and impulses which, unlike Turles, he fully embraces.

Biography

Background

Bebi Burori

Broly as an infant, bothered by the constant fussing of Kakarot, the baby in a neighboring cradle

Broly was born in Age 737, during the period of intense turmoil between Frieza and the Saiyans. At birth, his most curious feature was his inordinate power level of 10,000. This anomaly meant that by birth, Broly's power had already been close to that of Bardock and King Vegeta at the time of their deaths. In the Saiyan delivery room where he rests afterward, Broly is tormented by the constant crying of his neighbor, Kakarot. Kakarot's crying affected Broly's psychological state of mind, causing him to hold a subconscious grudge against him. The two infants would not meet again for almost three decades.

Broly with Paragus!

Baby Broly saving his father

King Vegeta feared the threat the boy posed to his empire, and so he gave the order for the infant's execution. Broly's father, Paragus, begged the king to spare the child's life, attesting that his son could be an extremely valuable asset to King Vegeta and his son. King Vegeta was quick to point out that while this is true, it was also true that Broly could use his ever-increasing strength to overthrow the Saiyan royal family.

As Broly developed, it became clear to Paragus that King Vegeta was not unjustified in trying to kill him (though he may not have considered King Vegeta's point). Broly's behavior became more maniacal and erratic as he matured, due to his power and the traumatic events during his infancy.[4] One such consequence of this was when Broly punched Paragus in the face and blinded him in the left eye.

Broly and Paragus

Paragus prepares to place a crown to control Broly on his forehead

Fearing for his own safety but still unwilling to kill Broly, Paragus used a ring as a special control device to keep Broly under restraint. Paragus narrowly managed to survive adorning Broly with the ring; Broly's calmness vanished as soon as he noticed the crown that Paragus tried to place on his forehead. After successfully doing so, Paragus launched a plan to use Earth as a base of operations for universal domination and to take revenge on Vegeta by luring him to a planet doomed to be destroyed by a giant comet. During this time, he also used Broly to destroy the remaining planets in the South Area, such being the main cause of the realization of disturbance in the universe from King Kai; this caused him to contact Goku and inform him of the Super Saiyan threat.

BrolyandGoku

Broly encounters Goku, his sworn enemy, for the first time in 30 years

Broly appears to be a quiet and gentle Saiyan until his personality is later dispelled as a charade caused by the suppression of his ring. He accompanies Vegeta to planet Todokama, ironically in search of the Legendary Super Saiyan. When Goku appears at Paragus' palace after warping to New Vegeta using Instant Transmission, Broly starts to fill with rage at the sight of Goku, before his father finally manages to calm him down. However, that night, Broly fails to control himself and goes into a blind rage, attacking Goku in his suppressed Super Saiyan form. Eventually, Broly manages to power up significantly, with Goku upon his doing so recognizing it as the very same energy trail he had been following, and then promptly accuses Broly of being the one responsible for attacking the South Galaxy (in the FUNimation dub, he instead just demands that Broly listen to a newly arrived Paragus and calm down). The battle is drawn to an early close when Paragus arrives and is able to once again use his control over Broly. This encounter leaves Goku in surprise and certain that Broly is the Legendary Super Saiyan he has been tracking down.

BrolyDashing

Broly rushes Goku and Future Trunks

When Vegeta tries to leave the planet with the others and Paragus's plan is exposed, Broly starts to walk toward Goku and utter his name in rage. His headband is destroyed and he transforms into the Legendary Super Saiyan, free of Paragus's control. Vegeta is completely shooked by Broly's ki and Broly proceeds to fight Goku and the others. Enraged beyond control and rampant with insanity, and despite Broly's request that they fight him with all their might if they wished to stop him, the combined Super Saiyan strength of Goku, Gohan, and Future Trunks are futile. Eventually, Piccolo makes an appearance on the battlefield, but he too provides little help against the unbelievable power of Broly. Soon after, Vegeta dispels his fear and awe over Broly, joining in the fight, only to be quickly outclassed.

Vegeta attacks Broly with an upside down kick

While the devastated Dragon Team lie scattered about the rubble of a fallen city, Broly ties one more loose end by confronting Paragus, who is making an attempt to escape the doomed planet in a Saiyan Pod. Broly ignores the fabricated plight of his father, crushing in his arms the Saiyan Pod, and Paragus with it; he muses that Paragus's plan to have the comet kill him would not work. Goku rises one last time and asks his friends to channel all of their energy into him, Vegeta's energy being the final channeling due to his beliefs that he should not assist a lower-class Saiyan. Broly throws a powerful punch to finish Goku, but with the addition of Vegeta's energy, Goku is able to catch Broly's punch. Goku then emits a powerful ki that causes Broly to step back in fear. Realizing the source of Goku's energy, Broly laughs at the idea of Goku being able to kill him before quickly powering up.

The two Saiyans charge each other head on, as the planet begins to break apart beneath them. Broly throws a punch at Goku that misses its mark, while Goku lands a powerful blow to Broly's abdomen. Broly's green ki bursts out from the point of impact, and his skin appears to crack as green light emits from his body. Broly then cries out in astonishment and explodes, seemingly defeated.

True to Broly's earlier prediction, it is revealed that Broly ultimately survived his defeat at the hands of Goku and managed to make a frantic escape in a Space Pod as New Planet Vegeta is demolished by Comet Camori. Over time the pod finally reaches Earth, soon after which Broly collapses from exhaustion and enters a sort of coma, where for seven years the elements expand around him. His landing on Earth also indirectly caused some trouble at a nearby village. Eventually, he is awakened underneath a thick pool of ice by the incessant cries of a nearby Goten.

Super Saiyan Broly confronts Goten and Trunks

After escaping this grave, Broly becomes stronger than before due to the near death experience. He resumes his vendetta against his fellow Saiyans, particularly Goten, due to his resemblance to Goku, and later Gohan. However, Broly's sanity has been breached so heavily since the encounter on New Planet Vegeta that he fails to tell Goten and Gohan apart from their now deceased father.

Despite Goten being Broly's main target, Videl and Trunks fall victim to his brutal rampage as well, until Gohan arrives at the scene and is astonished to find himself reunited with the Legendary Super Saiyan. Broly's uncoordinated attempts to take revenge are unsuccessful, and he is ultimately launched into the Sun by a Family Kamehameha fired by Gohan, Goten and the spirit of Goku, with his heart exploding just after screaming Kakarot's name one last time, apparently ending the life of the mighty Saiyan once and for all.

It is also revealed that the original Broly was sent to Hell upon death and that eventually, he was causing significant enough problems in Hell that Grand Kai dispatched Goku and Pikkon to calm him down.

Super Saiyan 4 Broly arrives

Thanks to the time-manipulating properties of Capsule Corp's arcade machines Broly appears as an antagonist under the command of Genome. Broly - in his Super Saiyan 4 state - hunts down each of the Shadow Dragons in order to take their Dragon Balls. He finds Eis Shenron and defeats him using a Ruthless Blow-like attack and takes him away. He then arrives at Basaku, Kagyu, and Nuova Shenron's location, defeating Basaku and Kagyu, and destroying Nuova Shenron and taking his Four-Star Dragon Ball. Broly then encounters the Dragon Ball Heroes and reveals that he has collected the Three-Star and Four-Star Dragon Balls and eats them in order to keep them away from the Dragon Ball Heroes. Super Saiyan 4 Broly then begins fighting with Super Class Froze and Super Class Beat, Froze attempts to defeat Broly using his Spirits Excalibur, but the Legendary Super Saiyan is unscathed by the attack and grabs Froze, attacking him with his Bone Crusher bear hug technique. Beat transforms into a Super Saiyan 3 and heavily punches Broly, though it does no damage, so Beat rapid fires punches at him, however, they still do nothing and Broly smashes him away before preparing and throwing a Double Eraser Cannon at Beat and his allies. With the entire team defeated, Broly takes the Two-Star Dragon Ball from Froze and leaves.

He later appears at the Shadow Dragon headquarters, where it is revealed he is working for Genome, he meets Rage Shenron and fights him, even after Rage Shenron powers up using his Electric Slime Body Build, Broly defeats him using an attack similar to Penetrate!, and then on Genome's order grabs him and smashes him into the ground, destroying him.

While Beat trains to face Broly, Genome locates the Dragon Ball Heroes and reveals that while he had originally planned to spare them, he needs to kill them in order to gain the One-Star Dragon Ball. Kagyu, however, reveals that he also needs the Four-Star Dragon Ball, as the one that Broly had taken was a fake, and Nuova Shenron was on their side.

Broly about to be sent back to the Battle on Namek

The Future Warrior arrives in Age 774 to find Legendary Super Saiyan Broly confronting Goten, Trunks, and Videl. Broly yells "Kakarot!" and transforms into Dark Broly due to Demigra's Dark Magic. Soon Gohan arrives to help combat Broly. They manage to defeat him, but he then disappears.

Broly is transported to Age 762, to part of the dying Planet Namek (an area nowhere near where Frieza and Goku are having their climactic battle), where he encounters Bardock, who was sent to that time by Mira in order to save him from Frieza. The Future Warrior arrives and he and Bardock fight Broly.

As they are fighting, the wish to move everyone from Namek to Earth (other than Goku and Frieza, who are fighting on another part of the planet) is completed and they are transported to a desert area on Earth. Broly knocks Bardock away and fights the Future Warrior, however, Bardock returns as a Great Ape to assist. Vegeta also arrives, having just been transported off Namek himself and watches the battle in awe. After a short time, Vegeta decides to join the battle against Broly. The combined might of the three warriors is enough to overcome the Legendary Super Saiyan, as Broly is defeated and killed.

Decisive Battle with Majin Buu

Broly is recruited alongside Super Janemba into the Time Breakers controlled via Towa's new Supervillain spell. Broly enchanted with the Supervillain power-up state heads to the battle between Majin Vegeta and Goku to interfere but is taken down by the Future Warrior allowing Majin Vegeta to knock out Goku and die fighting Majin Buu as he should. However Broly survives and becomes stronger through Saiyan Power, taking on his Supervillain transformation in order to interfere in the battle between Ultimate Gohan and Super Buu, however, he and Super Buu are both defeated by Gohan and the Future Warrior who takes Broly down to ensure he does not come back a third time.

Warrior of Hope Saga

However, unfortunately, this is not the last time they confront the Supervillain empowered Broly. As part of the Super Pack 4 DLC, Broly appears during the Warrior of Hope Saga where he appears in Age 796 of Future Trunks' timeline from Dragon Ball Super after Goku Black's misuse of the Time Ring in conjunction with his scythe creates a Rift in Time that connects multiple timelines and eras together. He is joined by other Time Breaker villains Super Janemba, Metal Cooler, and Lord Slug. Broly seeks to kill his nemesis Kakarot during his confrontation with Black who leaves Goku, Vegeta, and the Future Warrior to deal with his mortal adversaries as he plans to fuse with Future Zamasu. In spite of his Supervillain power-up (as his Supervillain transformation is unused), he is no match for the combined assault of Super Saiyan Blue Goku, SSGSS Vegeta, and the Future Warrior despite them being outnumbered by the villains 4 to 3. He is implied to have been killed and since he died in the future timeline his soul was presumably erased by Future Zeno, though his death likely disappeared when Chronoa put the scrolls together after it was successfully corrected.

Infinite History Saga

As part of the Extra Pack 2 DLC, Broly can be recruited as a partner to join the Future Warrior in if he is their current instructor. After the Future Warrior inadvertently enters a timeline where Demigra is Supreme Kai of Time and leader of the Time Patrol which is somehow absorbed by a mysterious swordsman, they are informed of a new crisis involving four Rifts in Time that have brainwashed Time Patrollers sent to investigate them and are starting to affect residents of Conton City. While Trunks: Xeno and his partner keep the affected contained, the Future Warrior is tasked with investigating as Chronoa and Elder Kai think they shouldn't be affected due to their experience. Trunks: Xeno, however, questions sending them in alone as the rifts are likely not natural. Chronoa reveals she had already thought of that and has already concluded that someone from another timeline will not be effected before revealing she had somehow convinced their instructor Broly to assist them. As Broly enters the Time Nest the ground shakes from his footfalls. Chronoa explains she chose their instructor so there would not be any issues and notes the rifts are separate from the official history, belaying Trunks: Xeno's fears it might alter history. Unconcerned, Broly insists on having the Warrior follow him, hellbent on finding Goku.

They eventually discover that Dabura was rescued from death by Towa during her invasion of the Time Nest shortly before her own death in Age ???. As a result, they are forced to confront Dabura who plans to seek revenge with the aid of his enigmatic artificially created nephew Fu, the genetic offspring of Towa and Mira.

However Goku is able to gain control over Kalory and goes against Towa, Towa defuses Karoly and then leaves. What-if scenarios

In the first scenario, Paragus comes to Earth early and tricks Vegeta into coming to New Planet Vegeta alone, Broly then defeats Vegeta. However, during the time when Broly and Paragus were not on New Planet Vegeta, Frieza and his empire took over the planet and Frieza stationed his Saiyan minions there before going to Earth, only to be killed by Future Trunks, so Cooler began utilizing New Planet Vegeta as his base. After Broly kills Vegeta they discover Cooler and his soldiers on the planet, Broly fights and kills Cooler and his armored squadron and destroys New Planet Vegeta. Broly then lives peacefully on Earth with Mr. Satan and the Z Fighters, but still gets excited whenever Goku is around.

Burst Limit

Main article: Dragon Ball Z: Burst Limit Broly has his own saga in the game. It largely features some dialogue on Broly's part, as well as the rest of the cast, from the original movie.

In the saga, Krillin stumbles upon Broly as the latter is raging about Goku (with Krillin's reaction indicating that this had not been their first encounter with the maniacal Saiyan), and was horrified that he was present. Unfortunately for Krillin, Broly sensed him nearby and deemed him an insect, forcing Krillin to fight him before ultimately being defeated. As Broly screams Goku's Saiyan name and powering up, Krillin proceeded to lose consciousness, although not before weakly apologizing to Goku for being unable to stop Broly as he was too powerful.

He then encountered Gohan, whom Broly recognized as being Goku's son, and proceeded to use a Heavy Finisher on him, with the blow being powerful enough to send him flying despite his being Super Saiyan 2, with him denouncing Broly as a monster. Broly then chides him about how he should just keel over and die as it would lessen the pain, before proceeding to tell him he should be proud of his Saiyan heritage before fighting him. After ultimately beating Gohan, Broly, while dementedly laughing, announces that the slaughter will begin with Gohan.

Presumably, shortly after this, he then notices Piccolo arriving and deduced that another insect had come to die. Piccolo, unphased by the threat, simply states that Broly decided to show himself. Broly then deduces that Piccolo thinks he's a monster, before correcting him by stating that he was, in fact, the devil himself before laughing heinously. After defeating Piccolo, he then dismissed his prior opponents as insects before making clear as he's powering up that he's waiting for Goku's arrival.

He then encountered Future Trunks, and demanded he fight him to the fullest, otherwise he'll destroy the Earth. Trunks then mentioned that Broly will destroy the entire universe if he is not stopped. Ultimately, Future Trunks could not defeat the Legendary Super Saiyan, being left staggering. Broly, deducing that Trunks cannot fight anymore, demands that he get out of his sight before blasting him.

Vegeta then arrived and demanded to know what Broly was doing while denouncing him as a freak, while pointing out that he intended to defeat Goku. He then managed to hold his own to Broly, causing him to tauntingly ask the Legendary Super Saiyan if he was too strong for Broly. Broly in response makes clear he doesn't intend to let Vegeta kill him easily, with Vegeta then stating that Broly will now face the Saiyan Prince in battle. However, Vegeta ended up defeated by the Legendary Super Saiyan, with Broly stating that it is over and that in the end, Vegeta is still worthless before powering up.

Eventually, Goku arrived, with Broly screaming Goku's Saiyan name, causing Goku to correct him as to what his Earth name was. Broly then informs Goku that he intends to tear the latter apart. Goku then realizes that Broly simply cannot be allowed to live, and makes clear he will not lose to the Legendary Super Saiyan. Broly then screams that he'll kill Goku, with the planet acting as his grave. After a long battle, Goku then charges at Broly, only for the latter to step aside and avoid his rush attack, leaving Goku confused as to where Broly went. Broly then calls out Goku's name. Goku then turns just in time to be hit with a Heavy Finisher and then proceeds to knock him away, before using a flurry of blows that eventually knocks Goku on his back. Broly then declares that he is unstoppable, before stating that his ki is rising and overflowing before powering up. He then decides the only thing left to do before he moves on to destroy the universe is to destroy the planet before laughing insanely. Unexpectedly, however, Goku gets back up and ascends to Super Saiyan 2, with Broly initially being shocked before ultimately readying himself to fight Goku.

Raging Blast

Main article: Dragon Ball: Raging Blast Broly managed to survive his encounter with Goku and landed on Earth. Dr. Gero somehow managed to locate him and then brainwashed him into serving him, feeling that his hatred for Goku is key for his own plans of revenge against him. He then has Goku fight Broly, only for it to inevitably backfire on him due to his hatred breaking Gero's hold on him, similar to Broly's father before him.

Broly overwhelms Goku

Prior to Broly being revealed as the Legendary Super Saiyan, and in large part because of Paragus restraining Broly's power to his base form via his crown, Paragus claims that Broly's power level is weaker than his own, with Future Trunks confirming this earlier, citing the latter as being a "toothpick" by comparison. However, his base form may have been weaker than Paragus, at least at the time he was first adorned with the crown, due to the latter proceeding to pin him down long enough to put the crown on him and struggling to knock Paragus away during his screaming fit. Broly's ki in his Super Saiyan form was strong enough to be barely sensed from King Kai's planet while he was causing destruction in the South Galaxy.

In addition, even when in his restrained Super Saiyan A-type state, it is heavily implied that it was powerful enough to obliterate the South Galaxy single-handedly, leaving only a few planets and stars. While he was in his Legendary Super Saiyan form, Broly's ki is potent enough to be sensed all the way from Kami's Lookout on Earth from New Planet Vegeta. While in his heavily restrained Super Saiyan A-type form, he is able to make base Goku struggle a little bit, although he is restrained by Paragus' headband. When he reaches the full power of his Super Saiyan A-type, he is capable of taking numerous attacks from Super Saiyan Second Grade Vegeta without flinching.

When in Legendary Super Saiyan form, he is stronger than Goku and Gohan in their Super Saiyan forms, Future Trunks and Vegeta in their Super Saiyan Second Grade forms and the Super Namekian Piccolo; he easily beats all five of them around. Even when Piccolo and Goku both barrage Broly with punches and kicks, Broly takes no damage, and if anything effortlessly dodged their combined front, and wipes them aside. Perhaps most tellingly, he purposely took a point-blank Super Kamehameha from Super Saiyan Goku, and not only emerged completely unscathed but laughed the attack off, even proceeding to sarcastically ask Goku what the attack was supposed to be. Being able to take attacks from Super Saiyan Goku without any damage meaning that Broly was at least twice as strong as Goku.[3] His physical strength in this form was also enough to effortlessly crush Paragus' attack ball, which was heavily armored and then threw it off the planet. However, the channeling of the ki of the exhausted base form Gohan, Vegeta, Future Trunks and Piccolo into Goku proves superior to Broly in his Legendary Super Saiyan form. When Goku is significantly powered up by the ki, Broly also expresses some shock and fear at the unexpected power increase, although this was short-lived, even confidently declaring that, regardless of how much power was donated by the other Z-Fighters to Goku, it wouldn't be enough to kill him. It is stated by Vegeta that he is the most powerful Saiyan in all of history. Although not confirmed, it is possibly implied that his Legendary Super Saiyan form may have been stronger than Gohan's Super Saiyan 2 form at the time, as Goku urged Gohan to flee when Broly threatened him despite already being aware of his Super Saiyan 2 form.

In addition, Broly also was shown to possess exceptional stamina, being capable of surviving grievous wounds that would have normally killed other individuals. These included being stabbed in the heart during the time of his infancy and being punched in the abdomen by an empowered Goku and then forcibly exploding at the end of their fight. Due to his Saiyan Power, he inevitably grew much stronger during these times.

After gaining more Saiyan Power in his second movie appearance, Gohan states that Super Saiyan C-type Broly is just as much of a challenge as before, suggesting that his Super Saiyan C-type state in the movie was of comparable power to his Legendary Super Saiyan state from his previous appearance. In this form he is able to easily overwhelm Videl, as well as Goten and Trunks in their Super Saiyan forms before proceeding to fight on par with base Gohan. On a related note, it was also implied that Broly managed to overcome the venting problem with his Legendary Super Saiyan form, as he does not vent at all during his fight with Gohan late in the film. In his Legendary Super Saiyan form, he is able to defeat Super Saiyan 2 Gohan without any difficulty. However, with Trunks barrier helping to block Broly's connection to his Gigantic Meteor, the full power of the Family Kamehameha used by Super Saiyan 2 Goku, Super Saiyan 2 Gohan, and Super Saiyan Goten was powerful enough to push Broly into the core of the sun.

OVAs and cinematic attractions

In Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans, Goku states that Hatchiyack may be even stronger than Legendary Super Saiyan Broly (from Broly - The Legendary Super Saiyan).

In Dragon Ball Z: Super Tenkaichi Budokai, Broly in his Broly God form is shown to be strong enough to fight against both Super Saiyan Blue Goku and base Vegeta at the same time. A full charge attack from Broly knocks out Super Saiyan Blue Vegeta when he is forced to take the full brunt of it as he defends Bulma, however, Broly God is no match for God Fusion Goku and is quickly dispatched with a God Kamehameha, although he does temporarily hold his own against the fusions various physical blows.

Victory Mission

In Dragon Ball Heroes: Victory Mission, Super Saiyan 4 Broly is shown to be strong enough to easily defeat Eis Shenron, Nuova Shenron, and Rage Shenron (Electric Slime Body Build) with only a few blows, and is completely unharmed following his fights with them.

Statements by authors and guidebooks

It is stated in Daizenshuu 6 that after his resuscitation and resultant Saiyan Power, Super Saiyan Broly's power surpasses that of Super Saiyan Goku[6] Additionally, it is stated that Legendary Super Saiyan Broly is a foe with bottomless power.[6]

It is stated on the Toei website for the Dragon Ball films that Janemba was the strongest of the original thirteen movie villains, with Hirudegarn was the second strongest of them,[7][8] making Broly weaker than these two villains.

According to Takao Koyama, the writer for the first thirteen Dragon Ball Z films stated that - even including the TV anime - nobody exists in the world who's stronger than Broly, and that there is absolutely no way Goku could beat Broly outside of the unorthodox methods he used in the films.[9]

Takao Koyama later went on to state that Broly is the most powerful of the movie antagonists that preceded him. However, Koyama went on to state that Broly was a pushover compared to Beerus.[10] Whether Broly in Movie 8 was stronger than Bojack was left ambiguous due to the latter never actually fighting Goku. After being reduced to his syrupy form Bio-Broly is also weaker than Broly. He does also match up with being stronger than the previous villain (Android 13, in this case).

The English teaser trailer for Broly - Second Coming also refers to him as the "strongest being in the universe".[11]

Video games

In Super Butoden 2, Broly manages to easily kill Bojack provided the Z Fighters failed to beat him earlier, suggesting he was far stronger than the latter.

In the alternate storylines for Supersonic Warriors 2, Broly was shown to not only be strong enough to eliminate the Z-Fighters, but also Cooler, Perfect Cell, and even Majin Buu; in addition, in the second alternate storyline, he was also powerful enough to defeat Gotenks with minimum effort. He was also capable of surviving being trapped in lava, as evidenced by the ending to the latter storyline.

Broly's profile in Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi refers to Legendary Super Saiyan Broly as "the greatest, most powerful adversary" out of the villains in that game, which includes Strongest Form 2 Baby Vegeta, Super Buu (Gohan absorbed), and Super 17.

In a what-if segment for Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3, Broly was shown to be stronger than most of the Z Fighters, although Max Power Master Roshi was shown to beat Broly in his Legendary Super Saiyan form.

V2

Legendary Super Saiyan Broly's power level listed at 1,400,000,000 in V-Jump

In his story mode during Dragon Ball Z: Burst Limit, Broly was shown to be powerful enough in his Legendary Super Saiyan form to defeat and presumably kill Super Saiyan 2 Teen Gohan (who had beaten Super Perfect Cell by that point), though he was shown to be slightly shocked when Goku became a Super Saiyan 2 in the ending of his chapter (however the chapter ends before the fight could start). In addition, he also was briefly shown fighting evenly with Super Saiyan Second Grade Vegeta, although he nonetheless managed to defeat him.

When encountered as a secret boss at the time of the Vegeta Saga in Dragon Ball Z: Attack of the Saiyans, Legendary Super Saiyan Broly's power level is 999,999, the highest possible in the game. His official power level as a Legendary Super Saiyan in Movie 8, is around 1,400,000,000 according to a 2004 V-Jump announcing his appearance in Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 3, as well as in the video game Dragon Ball Z: Scouter Battle Taikan Kamehameha - Ora to Omee to Scouter.

In Dragon Ball: Raging Blast 2, it is stated in Super Saiyan 3 Broly's profile that he actually survived being launched into the sun and the zenkai obtained from this event allowed him to take on a Legendary Super Saiyan 3 form. He was, however, still defeated when he attacked Earth once more.

Promotional material for one boss mission in Dragon Ball Heroes references Super Saiyan 3 Broly as being stronger than Full Power Frieza, Hatchiyack, Super Perfect Cell, and Super Buu (Gohan absorbed). In the reveal trailer for his Super Saiyan 4 form in Dragon Ball Heroes, Broly is able to defeat Super Saiyan 4 Goku (GT), Super Saiyan 4 Vegeta (GT), Super Saiyan 3 Gotenks (GT), Mr. Satan, Piccolo, and all of the Super Class avatars, without taking any injuries. In the JM7 animated trailer, Broly easily fights on par with Super Saiyan 4 Goku, Super Saiyan 4 Vegeta, Super Saiyan 3 Beat, Super Saiyan 3 Note, and Super Pikkon, with the heroes struggling in their fight against him. Promotional material also states that his Super Saiyan 4 form is "the appearance of an even stronger warrior", suggesting he may be more powerful than any previous character in Dragon Ball Heroes and calls him an "ultimate warrior".

In Dragon Ball Xenoverse, it is stated by Future Trunks that when Legendary Super Saiyan Broly becomes infected by Demigra's Dark Magic, his power multiplies by several folds. In fact, it takes the combined might of Great Ape Bardock, the Future Warrior, and Vegeta (Frieza Saga) to defeat him.

Promotional material for Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 states that Broly is the fighter recognized by everyone to have the highest power.[12]

In Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2, imperfect Supervillain Broly is apparently strong enough to interfere in the battle between Majin Vegeta and Goku (who were both fighting in their Super Saiyan 2 forms). However, he is shown to be weaker than the 2nd Future Warrior who was able to defeat him while Majin Vegeta fought with Goku and then Majin Buu. In his full Supervillain form, Broly's power increased even more. It is stated by Elder Kai that even Ultimate Gohan will have a hard time fighting both Supervillain Broly and Super Buu. However, despite his power increase, he is still shown to be inferior to the 2nd Future Warrior.

In both games, it is heavily implied that Broly in his various Legendary Super Saiyan form (exempting Broly God) is weaker than Super Saiyan God, as special dialogue occurred between Super Saiyan God Goku and Broly where the latter asks in a terrified tone what the form was, with Goku stating he has gone to a new world that Broly can never enter.

In Dragon Ball Fusions, Great Ape Broly manages to get back up after being defeated by Tekka's Team but is easily blasted away by Beerus, showing that his Great Ape Broly form, while powerful, is no match for Universe 7's God of Destruction.

Abilities

  • Ki Blast – The most basic form of energy wave.
  • Ki Sense - The ability that allows the user to sense ki and power levels.
  • Saiyan Power - The Saiyan ability to grow stronger as a Saiyan fights and grow stronger after recovering from a near fatal injury.
  • Regeneration/Healing Factor – Broly is shown to have an enhanced healing factor compared to normal Saiyans. As a baby he quickly healed from being stabbed through the stomach, after "exploding" from energy at the end of his first appearance he managed to heal his own wounds quickly, and after having his heart and the rest of his body explode when he was forced into the sun at the end of his second appearance, he managed to regenerate and gain Saiyan Power, attaining a Super Saiyan 3 form.
  • Bloody Smash – First, Broly kicks the opponent up into the air, where he grabs their head and throws them down to the ground. Then, he smashes the opponent's head into the ground and stomps on their back deeper into the ground, inflicting a high amount of damage.
  • Bone Crusher – The user's arms are wrapped around the opponent, with the opponent's arms sometimes pinned to the their body. The user's hands are locked around the opponent, who is held tightly to the user's chest.

Broly prepares his Omega Blaster

  • Eraser Cannon – First, Broly charges a green light energy from around his body and gathers it into his palm to form a bright-green energy sphere. Next, he waves his hand forward and fires the attack at the opponent, inflicting a large amount of damage. In some cases, he also fires it from his chest.
    • Double Eraser Cannon - First, Broly charges two Eraser Cannons, one in each of his hands. Then, he swings his hands forward as he fires the energy spheres one by one at the opponent, inflicting a high amount of damage. It is also implied in a flashback that this attack was potent enough to completely obliterate a planet.
    • Trap Shooter - The user draws their right hand back and charges a green or yellow energy sphere. Then, they wave their hand forward and fire several, compact, powerful energy sphere bullets that follow the opponent's movements, inflicting considerable damage.
    • Eraser Shot Volley – First, Broly bends over slightly and charges an Eraser Cannon in his right hand. Then, he fires the attack and follows up by firing a barrage of Eraser Cannons from both hands at the opponent, inflicting a huge amount of damage.
    • Blaster Meteor – First, the user forms an Energy Shield around his body. Then, he brings his hands apart to each side and releases many powerful energy blasts that home in on the target, inflicting a massive amount of damage.
    • Eraser Blow – Broly flies past the opponent with an Eraser Cannon in his hand that he brings near the opponent's stomach. He then throws his hand with the Eraser Cannon forward and, at point blank range, blasts the opponent away. The screen turns dark after the attack for dramatic effect.
    • Omega Blaster – Broly launches a lime green energy sphere that changes into an enormous energy bomb of devastating power, while saying "Struggle all you want, in the end you still die!" Not only can he control the size of this attack, but he can also power it up by launching ki blasts into it to push it forward, making it even more powerful and destructive enough to destroy the whole planet. However, this also gives indication to the technique's weakness. Without a steady supply of ki blasts, the Omega Blaster will shrink and weaken in power.
    • Planet Geyser – When the energy blast hits the ground, it explodes and creates a giant geyser-like blast of energy that blasts the opponent up in the air, inflicting massive damage and capable of causing massive collateral damage to the surrounding area.
  • Lariat – Broly proceeds to rush at the enemy at high speed and then grab his opponent by the neck just as they turn around, slamming him/her into a wall with enough force to leave a massive crater upon impact. He then continues forcing the opponent through the crater and simultaneously strangling them, before eventually releasing them and letting them fall to the ground upon the enemy losing consciousness.[6]
  • Kakarot! – Broly becomes enraged by his memories of Goku and with that rage, his strength rises.
  • Gigantic Slam – Broly charges a green energy shield around his body. Then, he jumps up into the air and drops down to punch the opponent away onto the ground, inflicting considerable damage.
  • Gigantic Spike – Broly grabs the opponent's head and flies down to the ground as he drives the opponent head-first into the ground or a wall, resulting in an earthquake and inflicting a massive amount of damage.
  • Gigantic Buster – Broly shouts "Get out!" as he charges at the opponent and uppercuts them away up into the air. Then, he flies up into the air and lands on the ground, where he headbutts the falling opponent before roundhouse kicking them onto the ground. Finally, Broly runs at the reeling opponent and kicks them up into the air before blasting them away into the ground with an Gigantic Eraser, inflicting a massive amount of damage.
  • Gigantic Press – He rushes at his foes with considerable force, using his own body (with a yellow aura around) as a weapon, inflicting a high amount of damage.
  • Seismic Power – After transforming into a Legendary Super Saiyan, Broly powers up to such a degree that his screams and laughter cause an earthquake as well as a thunderstorm to appear.
  • Super Explosive Wave – The user stands charging energy around their body, then they explode with a gigantic energy sphere around their body. If the foe comes in contact with the Super Explosive Wave, it will deal much greater damage than the normal Explosive Wave. It can also be used for defense and offense at the very same time. It also appeared in the anime and some other video games with similar effects. The larger the user or the more ki they have, the wider and more enhanced it will become.
  • Revenge Demon – First, Broly attacks the opponent with a punch to their face. Then, he punches the opponent's face again, grabs them by their neck and throws them down into the ground, inflicting a great deal of damage.
    • Dashing Punch – Upon assuming a semi-crucified pose while levitating, also utilizing either an aura or his energy shield, Broly attacks the opponent by rushing at them at high speed to land a punch. When in Legendary Super Saiyan Form, he simply rushes at the opponent and proceeds to punch him.
    • Gigantic Throw – Broly grabs his opponent and vertically throws them down into the ground, inflicting a great deal of damage.
  • Telekinesis – A technique that allows the user to manipulate objects and other people with the power of one's mind.
  • Torture Hold – Broly grabs his opponent, then places them atop his head with each hand grabbing his opponent's head and legs, respectively. He then constantly bends the opponent's body over his head until they presumably either give up or die.
  • Wild Sense – The user dodges an attack by moving swiftly and counter-attacks the opponent with a punch or a kick sending them down to the ground or into the air.
Goku vs

Gigantic Hammer

  • Gigantic Hammer – First, Broly strikes the opponent down with a massive clothesline. Then, he grabs the opponent by their shoulders and picks them up to vertical kick them up into the air. Next, he teleports in front of the opponent as he grabs them by their head and flies down to smash them across the ground. Finally, Broly picks up the opponent by their head, and uppercuts them in the stomach, knocking them away up into the air, inflicting a huge amount of damage.
    • Grab - The first part of Broly's Gigantic Hammer. It is Broly's signature attack in the Raging Blast Series.
  • Planet Crusher – In Dragon Ball Z: Super Tenkaichi Budokai, Broly in his God Broly form is shown using this attack, but is defeated by God Fusion Goku's God Kamehameha before launching it.
  • Hovercraft Punch – Broly rushes at the opponent, and punches them with a great amount of force. Used in Dragon Ball Z: Taiketsu.

Broly's regular Super Saiyan form, without the control device

In several flashbacks in Broly - The Legendary Super Saiyan, Broly is shown using his ordinary uncontrolled Super Saiyan form. Due to the lighting, the hair at times appeared pink or purple.

Due to the mind control crown forced upon him by his father Paragus, Broly possess a weakened state of Super Saiyan. It was also heavily implied that this was the form Broly was in when he significantly damaged Shamo and presumably the rest of the South Area upon being adorned with the crown at Paragus' command.

During Broly's first psychotic outburst wherein he pursues Goku, he transforms into a Super Saiyan, although his appearance in the form differs as a result of his crown restraint. In this mind-controlled Super Saiyan form, Broly's muscles swell slightly, his hair assumes a neon blue hue with purple tint (completely purple if in a dark environment, such as his first fight with Goku), and his skin pigment is dulled, additionally, he does not gain as much power as he would in his true Super Saiyan form - this form is called Super Saiyan (A type).[13]

Semi super broly

Broly powering up while in his mind-controlled Super Saiyan form

Despite his power being suppressed Broly is still exceptionally powerful, able to take both a kick directly to his neck followed by a powerful energy blast to Broly's back from Super Saiyan Second Grade Vegeta, both of which have no effect whatsoever. In addition, during his fight with Goku, his power also gradually increased in this state in a more dramatic manner (although not to the same extent as his Legendary Super Saiyan form), such being demonstrated when, prior to his being knocked into a lake, Goku kicked him hard enough to have Broly reel backwards, yet later when Goku managed to kick Broly in self-defense and later when punching him in the face, Broly was completely unaffected save for slightly bloodying his mouth in the former instance.

In Broly - The Legendary Super Saiyan, just before transforming into the Legendary Super Saiyan, Broly becomes a green haired Super Saiyan (C type). In Broly - Second Coming, Broly's regular golden haired Super Saiyan transformation makes its full onscreen debut. This form is referred to as Super Saiyan (C type).[13]

Also, from what is shown of Broly's regular Super Saiyan form, he is strong enough to take down Goten and Trunks as Super Saiyans without much effort, as evidenced by how easily he knocks Goten and Trunks out of their Super Saiyan forms at one point in the battle. However, when seeing Gohan transform into a Super Saiyan 2, he reacts with shock and promptly transforms into his Legendary Super Saiyan form, implying that his regular Super Saiyan form was no match to Gohan's Super Saiyan 2 form.

Broly transformed as the Legendary Super Saiyan in Broly: The Legendary Super Saiyan

Broly awakened this form as a result of Frieza destroying Planet Vegeta.[14] As the Legendary Super Saiyan, Broly's strength and speed extraordinarily excel that of any Super Saiyan shown previously. Broly's height and muscle mass also increase by a great amount after transforming; the former reaching 9'0" (274cm) in height.[15] His power level also rises on several occasions found throughout the film, though whether this is caused by the form or if it is simply Broly increasing his power level is up to debate. Additionally, the irises and pupils in his eyes disappear, and his hair changes to a light-green color. In addition, although it has superficial similarities to the Super Saiyan Third Grade form, it also possessed tremendous speed, with the Daizenshuu 6 even stating that his speed in this form was "Ultra-First Class", which was demonstrated with his effortlessly dodging rapid attacks from a combined front of both Goku and Piccolo at one point, as well as a clothesline maneuver he performed on Goku late in their battle. This form is alternatively called Super Saiyan (B type)[13] or Super Saiyan (Final Form).

This form is also one that it is genetically unique to Broly (and his clone Bio-Broly) due to being a birth-given power. Since the power level in this form is so vast, Broly has been shown to take extremely powerful attacks without so much as flinching, such as a point-blank Kamehameha from Goku. Broly showcases his strength in this form by destroying Planet Shamo with a single energy sphere. The form's effectiveness is shown in full force as he fought two Super Saiyan Full Powers, two Super Saiyan Second Grades, and a Super Namekian all at the same time while remaining in control of the whole fight, with his opponents being unable to hurt him in the least. It was not until Goku uses the channeled ki of Gohan, Piccolo, Future Trunks and Vegeta that Broly is beaten for the first time in this form.

He reappears on Earth during Broly - Second Coming, where Gohan can hardly hold his own against the Legendary Super Saiyan. In his Super Saiyan 2 transformation, Gohan is able to inflict some damage to Broly, but not enough to shift the battle in his favor. During the battle, Broly is also capable of surviving lava as a Legendary Super Saiyan using a shield, as shown when he emerges from a lava pool shortly after Gohan tricked him into being caught in it in a last ditch effort of defeating him.

When powering up to his maximum Super Saiyan power in this state Broly's hair changes from a green color to the golden glow of an ordinary Super Saiyan. He uses this fully powered enhancement at the end of his battle with Goku in Broly - The Legendary Super Saiyan and throughout his entire appearance as a Legendary Super Saiyan in Broly - The Second Coming.

In Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2, thanks to Towa, Broly gains the ability to shave off life and undergo the Supervillain transformation. He can also access the imperfect version of the Supervillain state (which lacks the changes in skin tone and glowing Time Breaker symbol) in story mission "Out of My Way! - Life or Death Battle" and Parallel Quest 47: "Daddy! Don't Die!".

He later transforms into his complete Supervillain form when he is sent to interfere in the battle between Ultimate Gohan and Super Buu, and it is said that this form and his recent Saiyan Power (as it is by Chronoa and Elder Kai his surviving his previous defeat caused his power to increase) boost increases Broly's power so much, that the combined might of Supervillain Broly and Super Buu would be too much for even Ultimate Gohan to handle on his own.

Broly achieves the Legendary Super Saiyan 3 form in the Raging Blast series, Dragon Ball Z: Dragon Battlers, and Dragon Ball Heroes. The look of this form is much like Broly's Legendary Super Saiyan form. He has great muscle mass, eyes which lack pupils and a greenish hair color (dark green in Raging Blast 2). Broly's form is referred to as Legendary Super Saiyan 3 in one of the early trailers for Raging Blast, in which Goku exclaims "Densetsu Supa Saiya-jin Suri!" (which translates to "Legendary Super Saiyan 3!"). However, he is simply referred to as "Super Saiyan 3 Broly" within the game and future appearances until the release of Dragon Ball Fusions (which explicitly refers to him as Legendary Super Saiyan 3). In the Raging Blast series, Broly as a Super Saiyan 3 is a separate character from Broly with his movie transformations. He makes his debut using this form in the eighth mission of the original series (before GM series).

The scar on his chest is a result of his childhood injury and in this state his veins are much more prominent, which represents how he is stronger and angrier than before.

He made his first playable appearance in Super Butōden 2 (a cheat code is required to access him in the Japanese dub). In the Story Mode, he appears to kill Bojack if the Z Fighters fail to defeat him, and attacks the Z Fighters under certain conditions.

In Shin Budokai - Another Road, Future Broly is an antagonist in which the Z Fighters go to the aid of Future Trunks in his struggle with Future Majin Buu.

In Raging Blast, Broly has a Super Saiyan 3 transformation that is part of a what-if scenario in the story mode. This video game exclusive Super Saiyan 3 transformation was first revealed in the August 19th, 2009, edition of in V-Jump, and was also showcased in the new trailer released on the same date.

In Raging Blast 2, the player can unlock an image of Super Saiyan 3 Broly, which looks like it was taken from the series/movie.

In FighterZ, he appears as a DLC character via the Broly Pack DLC, which unlocks Broly and several recolors.

Reception

Since his debut, Broly was very well-received by fans of the franchise both in Japan as well as overseas. Because of this popularity, he was notable as being one of only two movie-exclusive characters to consistently appear in various video games, the only other being Bardock, as well as one of only two movie villains to gain more than one film appearance as the main antagonist, the only other being Cooler, as well as having the most appearances among the movie villains (having three in the entire Z movie lineup). In addition, Broly's popularity resulted in the creation of the character Kale for the Universe Survival Saga of Dragon Ball Super, as well as being included in the mainline storyline in a revamped manner.

Trivia

  • Broly's name is a pun on the vegetable broccoli, which is even referenced in Broly - The Legendary Super Saiyan when a drunk Master Roshi calls him "Broccoli".

The Other World fighter resembling Broly

  • In the Other World Saga, Broly's design is reused for an Other World fighter in the crowd at the Other World Tournament.
  • In the Brazilian Portuguese dub, Master Roshi mentions Broly during the Universe Survival Saga.[16]
  • In Dragon Ball Z: Attack of the Saiyans, it is shown that Broly is from a separate dimension to the main one.
  • Directly before he transforms, one can see Broly's cheeks quiver and then simply rip apart. The same for his eye sockets and chest. It seems that instead of simply enlarging when he transforms, the Legendary Super Saiyan form bursts forth from his body. This may explain why his skin tone becomes incredibly pale and gray-tinged.
  • Despite being mentioned at the conclusion of Bio-Broly that he is a resident of Hell, Broly does not make an appearance in Dragon Ball Z: Fusion Reborn or the Super 17 Saga of Dragon Ball GT, when the residents of Hell make their escape to Earth. He does, however, escape from Hell a few times in Dragon Ball Z: Shin Budokai.
  • Broly and Cooler are the only movie villains to appear in more than one Dragon Ball Z film as the main villain.
    • Because of Broly's role in Dragon Ball Super: Broly (albeit in a revised manner from the original film), Broly is technically one of the few movie villains to actually enter the main timeline, the only others being Garlic Jr. (via his appearance in the Garlic Jr. Saga in Dragon Ball Z) and Cooler (due to his cameo in the Super 17 Saga of Dragon Ball GT and Prison Planet Saga). According to Akira Toriyama regarding the film, his role in the film was suggested by his editors largely because of Broly's immense popularity among fans of the franchise.
  • Besides flashbacks of his infancy, Broly is not seen with a tail despite Akira Toriyama's character design sheets depicting him as an adult with it. However, as most adult Saiyans wrap their tails in a belt fashion, Broly may have done so and is covered by his sash. In Dragon Ball Xenoverse's "Legendary Super Saiyan Saga", Bardock destroyed Vegeta's Power Ball after transforming with it himself to prevent Broly from doing the same, a feat he performs in Dragon Ball Heroes, showing that Broly indeed retained his tail.
    • The mature Bio-Broly, before being deformed, sported a tail, providing insight to how a fully developed Broly looks with his tail.
  • In Xenoverse, Broly appears in Toki Toki City for a mission the Future Warrior can participate in. If the Warrior is a Majin, he'll remark how they look cute.
  • Interestingly, in Xenoverse 2, Beerus is shown to be aware of who Broly is if the Future Warrior talks to Beerus in Conton City while training under Broly. Beerus will state he is surprised that Broly would be willing to train anyone given his personality.
  • Oddly, despite Broly's hatred of Goku being immense enough that, at least by the time of Second Coming, he mistook Goten for Goku just from a similar physical appearance, he does not seem to mistake Turles for Goku in Xenoverse 2. However, it is implied that Broly mistook Goten for his father due to his similar scent, crying, and appearance combined with Broly's fragile mental state as he notes similarities in the scents of Goku's close relatives such as his eldest son, father, and brother in Xenoverse 2. He also mistakes the Masked Saiyan for Goku presumably due to his similar appearance, scent, and the mask that obscures Bardock's scarred face. He also recognizes GT Goku despite him being reduced to a child. Broly even says that Kakarot won't escape him by shrinking away and hiding from him, which GT Goku states sounds pretty hilarious to him.
  • Broly is mentioned in the description on Kale's artwork, noting that she looks just like "that legendary Saiyan."[1] Likewise, Broly's popularity was the reason she was created.
    • The Extra Pack 3 DLC from Xenoverse 2, lampshades their similarities in New Parallel Quest: "Catch Kefla If You Can as Kale's Potara fusion Kefla notes there is something familiar about him when she encounters him.
  • Broly wearing a crown that forces him to suppress his unfathomable power during the first movie was similar to Sun Wukong, who when imprisoned wore a crown that causes him agony whenever Tripitaka chants the mantra of obedience. Ironically, his sworn nemesis Goku also shares the same character origins.
  • In some versions of the remastered release of his first appearance, Broly's voice increased in pitched. However, for some unknown reason, his voice remained unaltered in the remastered version of his second appearance.
