I'd also like to point out that back then (due to inflation) a hundred dollars back then is like a thousand today.
Actually Talonsen I was referring to gas prices when the first Ford car was produced, which was about 1908. I'm not too certain there was inflation in 1908. I could be wrong though.
Um...I have heard of inflations but I don't know any dates of when any of them occured.
Also I collect coins but I only have two coins in my collection(which is VERY sad) but I am trying. Who else collects coins? Just a somewhat random question.
Inflation is exactly the term for economic phenominon you were refering to. When money grows in economic value this is inflation, and it causes prices to rise... or was that it causes rises to fall? D**** it, now I confused myself! Anyway what causesd the gass price raising is a mix of the oil companies controling prices and its growing unavailability.

A lot of Navy guys like me collect what are called "command coins" that we can get from the various ships and bases we serve on.
Cool! I want to collect coins from different countries or coins that just look different. The only coin I have from another country is a Euro.
I have several antique US coin collections, all of which are still in progress:
Morgan dollar from 1878 to 1904
Peace dollar from 1921 to 1928
Walking Liberty half dollar from 1916 to 1947
Mercury dime from 1916 to 1945
50 state quarter series from 1999 to 2008
