"Before any creation must come destruction!"
— Beerus in Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods

Beerus (ビルス Birusu) is the God of Destruction of Universe 7. He is accompanied by his martial arts teacher and attendant, Whis. Beerus' twin brother is Champa, the God of Destruction of Universe 6.

Beerus is the main antagonist of the Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods film and the God of Destruction Beerus Saga but becomes a supporting character in later sagas.

Concept and creation

Prior to his actual creation as a character, Beerus was first referenced in the manga chapter "The Zeta Sword" and the episode "Out from the Broken Sword" as the one who sealed Old Kai in the Z Sword. Additionally, Beerus is said to have wiped out the dinosaurs, the thwarting of this incident - leading to dinosaurs continued existence in the present - was seen long prior to his debut in the Dr. Slump chapter "Hello, Moon!".

The scriptwriter Yūsuke Watanabe originally envisioned Beerus as a villainous character who infects people with evil and was the one who gave the Saiyan race their ruthless characteristics.[5] Also, Beerus originally looked like a lizard, but Toriyama changed his design entirely.[6]

In accordance with the original concept for this character, his name in Japanese, Birusu (ビルス), is a pun on "virus" (ビールス; German pronunciation).[7] However, the series' original author, Akira Toriyama, thought his name is a pun on the alcoholic beverage, "beer".

He is modeled after the 14-year-old cat currently living with Akira Toriyama, Debo, a Cornish Rex.[8] In spite of developing a serious illness, and the vet declaring it did not have much time left to live, it miraculously got better on its own, and the vet said it might be some kind of demon.

Beerus' physical design also takes some inspiration from Ancient Egyptian deities.[9]

Beerus was going to fight the Z Fighters with a spoon or fork, but the Battle of Gods animation director Tadayoshi Yamamuro thought it would be hard for him to fight like that, so he suggested switching it to chopsticks.[6]

Appearance

Beerus (Champa clothes)

Beerus wearing his brother's clothing

Beerus is a purple anthropomorphic cat with golden yellow eyes and large pointed ears. His form is hairless and while overall defined inbuilt, he is very thin and bony. He is of a similar height to Goku, being slightly shorter, but his ears make him appear taller. He dons black, blue, and gold Egyptian-looking attire with the same white and orange diamond decorations as his mentor Whis.

In the "Super Star Guide's" minicomic teasing Champa's appearance and his resemblance to Beerus, Beerus appears wearing Champa's clothing, and also being inflated by Whis to appear identical to Champa.

Personality

"The inevitability of his existence does not give meaning to what he does. Beerus acts only on his own whim. He is nothing but bottled chaos."
Old Kai describing Beerus

Beerus is powerful, yet lazy and playful (like most actual cats). His similarities to cat-like behavior also display in his love for long sleep sessions and how he grooms himself. Beerus is always in a bad mood when he wakes up from his deep slumber but becomes less grumpy the longer he is awake. Similar to many cats, he likes to display dominance and will claim whatever he desires to have without much consideration for how it will affect others. He is also a gourmet, and his planet is stocked with fish and other sorts of food.[10] While he is a fearsome god, his cat-like gestures and his variety of facial expressions separate him from the more malevolent antagonists in the series.[11] He has a very indifferent behavior toward death, being the God of Destruction, and cares little to none about death and the billions, possibly trillions of lives he has taken over the years he has been the God of Destruction. He often uses the threat of destroying Earth as a means to get what he wants or as a simple warning to Whis and the other Z fighters.

However, Beerus is hotheaded and somewhat selfish and can become easily angered over trivial matters, such as being beaten in a game of Hide-and-Seek, being served greasy food, or being denied pudding. He is also confident in his superior power, not without cause, as he proved to be the strongest opponent ever fought by the Z Fighters at the time. He is also shown to be egotistical, not wanting to admit whenever he is wrong about something or that he is to blame for a particular situation that was either directly or indirectly caused by him.

In Dragon Ball Super, Beerus is seen to be more malicious than he was in the movie, not to mention more comical. He is also comically argumentative and abusive towards his servants. When Oracle Fish forgot the name of Beerus' ultimate adversary, he suggests to Whis to cut his feedings from "three times a day to two times a day". Beerus never likes it when he does not get the respect he deserves as a god. In the Universe 6 Saga, Beerus jokes about "destroying a world using the Super Dragon Balls," but has a sinister smirk when talking about it, which has Bulma suspicious and seeks to find the Super Dragon Balls before him. He is also demanding of Vegeta, treating him as his servant boy. Along with this, he never cares about the lives of the other fighters of Universe 7, and would consider his fighters as "pawns", but he showed genuine appreciation when he praised Yamcha for winning a baseball match. His cheering and enthusiastic attitude are seen even more in the Tournament of Power, cheering on any of the fighters who knock an opponent out of the ring, especially weaker fighters. When he observed Master Roshi fight with 3 Universe 4 fighters, he was cheering him on and keep calling him "Old Man", until Krillin told him his name, and after Roshi is revived by Goku, he ask Krillin what his name is and when Roshi eliminated himself Beerus called him Master, clearly showing respect for Roshi and his very intelligent fighting style and common sense, despite their power (and age) difference (Beerus being millions of years old, while Master Roshi being 350 years old as of Age 780.). He warmly praises Gohan for defeating Dyspo, even though he himself was taken out of the ring. He also respectfully addresses Gohan by name, rather than referring to him as "Goku's son".

Despite his extreme power and role as God of Destruction, Beerus is surprisingly well-mannered, respectful, and polite, and can be quite sociable and friendly when in a good mood; he uses exclusively polite pronouns, from the gentle-polite-masculine Boku to refer to himself (much like Gohan, Trunks, Goten, and Babidi in the series) instead of the coarse-masculine ore (every other main adult-male in the series), and Kimi (an affectionately-polite form of "My Good Sir/Good Madame") to refer to everyone. Since becoming acquainted with Goku and his friends, Beerus' attitude has lightened somewhat, becoming even more comical than before. While still arrogant and indifferent, he has become noticeably more tempered, which leads to comical antics. Whereas before he would destroy planets and all its inhabitants for even the slightest disrespect, he has begun showing considerable restraint despite the various outbursts from the Earthlings' antics, this is because of Zeno becoming Goku's friend, and likewise, the advent of the Tournament of Power. Likewise, the Earthlings have become more casual and relatively calm in his presence, something Beerus seemingly has no problem with, when angry, rather than showing off his aura and attack, he comically yells, demands, and nags at them, specifically Goku, partially due to his friendship with Zeno.

While Beerus does not get overly emotional, he is implied to have grown to care about Goku as he is seen clenching his teeth and fists and quietly lamenting if Goku's Spirit Bomb had truly backfired and brought about his end. Likewise, when Goku is revealed to be alive, Beerus does not get overjoyed about it but just calmly smiles. That is, until something truly breathtaking and miraculous happens, which is evident when Beerus is capable to show genuine happiness for and taking pride in Goku, especially after the Saiyan finally ascends into the Perfected Ultra Instinct state. By the events of Dragon Ball Super: Broly, Beerus' relationship with Bulma and the Earth warriors has continued to grow more casual and positive as, despite his open dislike at the request, he was trusted with caring for Bulla while the others went off. He was ultimately even fine with the babysitting on his lap and tugging on his clothing. He also uses his tail to entertain her.

He also chooses not to confront Broly, preferring to allow Goku, Vegeta, their fusion Gogeta, Golden Frieza (when he is attacked by the rampaging Super Saiyan Broly), and Whis (who uses Autonomous Ultra Instinct to hold off Broly after Golden Frieza is defeated, bowing out once Gogeta appears) to deal with the Legendary Super Saiyan (Goku believing that Broly was potentially above Beerus in power). The casual relationships Beerus has developed prove he is not a completely merciless Destroyer who does not care for the whims of mortals. This is further evidenced in Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, when he allows the Broly trio to stay on his planet after finding Cheelai cute and Lemo's cooking exceptional, as well as generating an Energy Shield to protect them from the waves produced by Goku and Vegeta's base form spar.

King Vegeta2 BoG

Beerus uses King Vegeta as a foot stool

He appears to have a very high view of his power, as he always claims that his power completely outclasses that of Goku, Vegeta, and others; however, he does eagerly wait for an individual to rival his power. While Beerus dislike evil beings, he has no problem with using them, as shown by his relationship with Frieza whom Beerus allowed to maintain a vast galactic empire and even act as Beerus' agent of destruction. He also recruited the Saiyans, led by King Vegeta, to obtain the universe's most comfortable pillow, though King Vegeta's stinginess caused him to try and trick Beerus by giving him the second most comfortable pillow. Beerus realized the truth and punished King Vegeta for it, while sparing Planet Vegeta for the time being. It was likely because of this and the Saiyan's arrogant attitude that Beerus told Frieza to destroy Planet Vegeta, as he felt that destroying it himself was too much of a bother, thus Beerus himself was partially responsible for the Genocide of the Saiyans, though Frieza ultimately destroyed the Saiyans for his own reasons. Beerus himself only tolerated Frieza's existence due to his power and his willingness to work for Beerus out of fear. Beerus also told Frieza that he would not interfere with his revenge. However, after Frieza destroys the Earth, Beerus allows Whis to use his Temporal Do-Over to give Goku a second chance to finish Frieza off and save the Earth, though this was mainly due to the fact he preferred Goku, Vegeta, and the Z Fighters over the return of Frieza and his evil empire, as well as his love of Earth food. While Beerus joked about using the Super Dragon Balls to destroy Universe 7 which Bulma took seriously, he ironically had Whis use the Super Dragon Balls to restore Universe 6's Earth, effectively giving his brother an Earth of his own, though had Whis keep quiet about the nature of his wish to maintain his reputation so as to not appear soft. Additionally, he ends up saving Goku from having his body stolen by Zamasu by killing the rogue Shinjin, though Goku Black's Time Ring prevented him from being erased. In the anime, Beerus had Whis travel to the past in Trunks' timeline to warn his counterpart Future Beerus of the threat posed by Zamasu and of the events that lead to Future Shin's death which caused Future Beerus to die due to their life link, creating a new future timeline where Future Shin and Future Beerus are still alive and the events that lead to multiverses being erased to not occur, giving Future Mai and Future Trunks a timeline to live in after their timeline was destroyed. Thus, Beerus has technically revived or prevented the Earth's destruction three times, once in the main timeline, once in Universe 6, and once in the alternate future timeline, showing that he can at times can be a benevolent deity. In the manga, however, he allows Future Trunks and Future Mai to travel back in time using the Time Machine to prevent Future Shin's death in order to save Future Beerus as well as inform Future Shin of the threat posed by the Zamasus and their Project Zero Mortals, all with Present Beerus' blessing and approval, as it would save his future counterpart.

"Nobody who trumpets justice is ever righteous themselves."
— Beerus noting the hypocrisy of Goku Black and Zamasu's claims of justice in "Zamasu and Black The Duo's Mystery Deepens"

In response to Goku Black and Zamasu's claims they seek justice, Beerus points out his philosophy that nobody who trumpets justice is ever righteous themselves which is proven by the evil actions of the Zamases as they carry out their self-righteous and insane Project Zero Mortals. This may also explain Beerus' willingness to somewhat tolerate the existence of openly evil people such as King Vegeta and Frieza provided they respect his position and do not upset him or the balance between creation and destruction that he, the Kais, and Supreme Kais maintain.

Due to his power and position, he is somewhat fearless, as there are very few who can match his power, let alone capable of killing him in combat. However, Beerus is extremely terrified of Zeno, in a manner very similar to how the Kais and other gods are scared of Beerus himself. He has a fearful respect of the Omni-King(s), to the point where he will headbutt through his own table to bow to him. Additionally, Beerus is not hesitant to kill other lifeforms, even his rival, Goku, as he threatened to destroy Goku if he got involved with Zeno and irritated or angered the Omni-King. Due to his life link to Shin, the only active Supreme Kai of Universe 7, Beerus has a strong desire to prevent his death, as it would cause Beerus himself to die as well. Although he is the God of Destruction and has destroyed several things, he also was demonstrated to have limits as to the kind of destruction he would condone, as he was shown to be very angry at Goku for his role in the two Zenos' Tournament of Power, which will result in the losing universes being erased from existence, and also held enough disgust with Zamasu's Project Zero Mortals that he immediately erased the present-day Zamasu when the latter was exposed.

His relationship with Shin is shown to be strained as he is usually rude and condescending towards him, not particularly caring what he does as long as he is alive, nor does he care for his input. After the Grand Minister announced the stipulation for the Tournament of Power, he angrily told Shin that he was too hands-off with his approach and blamed him for their universe's low mortal level. Due to his sealing Old Kai in the Z Sword after getting into a trivial argument with him during a meeting on the Sacred World of the Kai, the elder Supreme Kai holds a grudge against Beerus, though in Xenoverse 2 Beerus calms down after learning that it was Old Kai who bumped into him, showing that he is willing to act civil despite their history however after hearing Old Kai mutter to himself in an angered tone revealing he still held a grudge against Beerus for sealing him, he tests Beerus' patience enough for Beerus to consider destroying him (it should be noted Beerus originated from an altered timeline and Old Kai presumably originated from Age 852 and was assisting Chronoa at the time so his death likely would not affect Beerus in any case, or Beerus is life-linked to Shin, and not Old Kai) though fortunately, Whis was able to pacify the situation with food. Unlike Old Kai, Beerus has no problem using the Dragon Balls which again shows their contrasting personalities. However, it should be noted that by sealing Old Kai in the Z Sword he may have inadvertently saved the wise Supreme Kai from perishing or being absorbed during Kid Buu's rampage, allowing Old Kai to assist the Z Fighters and Shin during the Majin Buu conflict, during which time Beerus was asleep and unable to assist Shin in dealing with the powerful Majin.

In Xenoverse, after faking to be controlled by Demigra's Dark Magic due to being as a god, Beerus noted he would enjoy destroying Demigra because he "seems like an evil guy", and also out of revenge, considering Demigra's attempt to control him "a blasphemous action that deserved punishment". Beerus also enjoys fighting strong opponents, as he looks forward to Goku, Vegeta, and the Future Warrior becoming stronger. He also encourages the Future Warrior to see if they have a skill that can defeat him.

In Xenoverse 2, Beerus is taken aback when Mira has the audacity to tell him to be quiet when he arrives to save the Masked Saiyan after Future Warrior chases him to Age 778 during Beerus' fight with Super Saiyan God Goku. However, instead of destroying Mira, Beerus is impressed by his lack of fear, as it had been a while since a mortal had the courage to talk back to him and allows Mira to fight the Future Warrior without interference. However, as the fight drags on, Beerus loses his patience and threatens to destroy everyone present, though is stopped when Chronoa sends him a box full of pudding cups, which calms the God of Destruction to the point he even offers Mira and the Masked Saiyan some pudding, which causes the pair to leave as Mira considers Beerus' friendly attitude a buzzkill. However, as the pudding was made by Chronoa herself, who is notorious for her poor cooking skills, Beerus is enraged at how horrible it was, forcing Whis and the Future Warrior to subdue him as Goku is incapacitated by stomach cramps after eating some of the pudding. Beerus eventually calms down and refuses to eat any more of Chronoa's cooking when she suggests making it up to him. While eating his sundae with Whis in Age 779 during Frieza's revenge, Whis and Beerus are contacted by Chronoa who informs them that Towa and Mira are attacking the Time Nest and asks for Beerus' assistance by offering cream puffs, which she claims were made by Future Trunks to alleviate Beerus' concerns that she made them. However, Beerus is furious when he and Whis arrive at the Time Nest and discover that they were deceived by Towa who had hacked into the Time Nest's communications and pretended to be Chronoa to lure Beerus and Whis from Age 779, preventing Whis from assisting Goku like in the original history, causing Goku and all of his friends saved by Whis to die when Frieza uses his Earth Breaker to destroy the Earth. Like with Demigra, Beerus is outraged by Towa's blasphemous act of deceiving him in such a manner and demands to know where she is so he can destroy the Demon Scientist, though like in Xenoverse he later decides to leave her to defeat to the Time Patrol as he is impressed by the new Future Warrior's power after they manage to best Whis in a sparring session, which Beerus was forced to leave after Whis drew his symbol on Beerus' forehead. Also despite his past history with Old Kai, whom he had sealed within the Z Sword, Beerus is for the most part civil towards Old Kai, though threatens to destroy him when he tests Beerus' patience when Old Kai still holds a grudge for being sealed while complaining to himself loud enough that Beerus can hear him, though Whis manages to defuse the situation with food.

In Dragon Ball Legends, when Shin is kidnapped by a mysterious Mastermind, they force Beerus to create a hyperdimensional martial arts tournament called the Tournament of Time where fighters from various eras, timelines, and universes compete for a chance to make a wish using the Super Dragon Balls (despite the fact said Dragon Balls are currently in their inert phase due to being used previously following the climax of the Tournament of Power), with Beerus having King Kai telepathically informing the participants of this. Due to Shin's life being in danger, Beerus decides to investigate the tournament discreetly, by secretly forming Team Beerus. With the present era Goku and Jaco assisting him, Beerus kept an eye out for potential recruits among the tournament participants and those who found themselves brought to Earth in Age 780 of the main timeline. One of them is an amnesic Saiyan named Shallot who was found by Jaco and the pre-Dragon Ball incarnation of Bulma (Youth). Beerus aids Shallot by suggesting he enter the Tournament of Time and to protect Bulma as he had taken the job of being her bodyguard. Beerus also arranges for Shallot, Gohan (Kid), and Shallot's enigmatic ally Zahha to train under the pre-Saiyan conflict Vegeta and Nappa with Beerus threatening to Hakai Vegeta if he refuses. After Shallot defeats the DRK Raditz, Beerus backs up Bulma when she tells Vegeta & Nappa to stop fight Shallot before they destroy the Capital, using a Power Flick to defeat the hotheaded Nappa who has grown tired of Beerus ordering them around despite Vegeta's orders not to confront Beerus. Beerus then tells Vegeta, that he already had plans for Shallot and that he should take care of his remaining subordinate, less he Hakai them both which forces the Saiyan Prince to retreat in defeat. Beerus after introducing them to present Goku, then explains to Bulma, Shallot, and Zahha what he meant earlier, revealing the truth about the tournament. Bulma and Shallot agree to become members of Team Beerus in order to put an end to the tournament. After Shallot encounters his mysterious genocidal doppelganger the Saiyan in Red, Beerus sends Goku to assist Shallot. Afterwards, Beerus is curious about Shallot's connection to the Saiyan in Red, thus has Super Saiyan Goku spar with Shallot to have Whis get a feel for Shallot's ki. After the fight, Whis reveals Shallot possesses a different ki signature from modern Saiyans like Goku, indicating he and the Saiyan in Red are prehistoric Ancient Saiyans. Beerus and Whis discuss the matter among themselves and Whis suggests the Saiyan in Red is Shallot with his memories intact, though Beerus wonders if they could be dealing with a situation similar to Goku Black. However, Whis does note two important clues, as Giblet refers to Shallot as "the blood of the defeated" and Goku as "the blood of the tainted". During Shallot's second confrontation with the Saiyan in Red, he regains his memory after seeing the Saiyan in Red with his hood down, causing Shallot to identify him as his twin brother, Giblet. Due to Goku and the Dragon Team's association with Beerus, Whis, and Shin, Beerus is reluctant to allow Goku to get too involved, only sending him to provide assistance to the rest of the team. Beerus is also more cautious about confronting the Mastermind or Babidi when he briefly claimed to have kidnapped Shin, though an off-hand comment from Babidi end up allowing Beerus to confront Babidi directly, allowing him to discover that Babidi was simply a DRK brainwashed puppet. After Shallot's twin brother Giblet kills Babidi and reveals himself to be working with the true Mastermind, Beerus agrees to let Shallot handle him and leaves with Whis. Unfortunately, Giblet uses Dark Ki's 2nd Stage to overpower Super Saiyan 3 Shallot. Though Beerus tries to stop him, Goku uses Instant Transmission to save Shallot and decides to confront DRK Giblet using his Super Saiyan God form, which the twins seemingly recognize (albeit vaguely in Shallot's case). SSG Goku manages to defeat DRK Giblet forcing him to retreat. Beerus sends Whis to bring Goku and Shallot back, with Whis knocking Shallot out to prevent him from chasing after his brother, though he asks Goku why he let Giblet go only for Goku to reveal it was for Shallot's benefit. Beerus elects to relocate the team's base to his planet after the Capitol is destroyed by Evil Buu. After Shallot wakes up, Beerus explains that since he's still alive despite Giblet (and thus the Mastermind as well) being aware of his opposition, then that means there is no reason to be discreet about it and sent Goku on a mission to Earth now that he doesn't have to worry about hiding his involvement. Though Beerus planned to send Shallot to Earth as soon as he was healed, instead of telling this to Shallot who is eager to get back to Earth, he challenges Shallot to defeat him, with the promise of sending him to Earth if he does so. Whis notes how cruel Beerus is being towards Shallot, who has no chance of winning. Eventually Beerus decides to take a nap and puts Whis in charge of fighting with Shallot, who can barely hit the Angel due to his use of Autonomous Ultra Instinct. After finishing his nap and seeing that Shallot has fully recovered, he gives Shallot, Bulma, and Jaco a mission to go back to Earth and find five righteous Saiyans, as Beerus realizes Shallot will require the power of a God to combat Giblet who also seeks to become a Super Saiyan God which only intensifies after his humiliating loss to Super Saiyan God Goku. Whis is left to fill in Team Beerus about the Super Saiyan God ritual once they have located enough Saiyans to perform the ritual. Trusting Shallot judgement on whom to select, Shallot locates his Saiyan allies Cabba, Caulifla, Kale, Gohan (Youth), Future Trunks (Youth), and Bardock. Unfortunately, the Mastermind sends his allies Super Buu and Android 13 leading a group of DRK empowered underlings to stop the ritual. Kale is injured by Buu, while Bardock decides to join his teammates Fasha and Tora in fighting Team Beerus' allies assembled by Zahha who survived his encounter with Giblet, which includes Shallot's mentor Nappa. Additionally, it is revealed that Beerus kept Goku in reserve just in case they came up a Saiyan short, which proves a wise decision after Kale is incapacitated. Sure, enough the ritual allows Shallot to become a Super Saiyan God, giving him strength that surpasses the Gohan Absorbed Super Buu. However, Giblet shows up and Shallot cuts off communication with Bulma and Jaco to confront his brother. Beerus and Whis observe as Giblet reveals he had managed to somehow achieve Super Saiyan God before Shallot. This leads to a "Battle of Saiyan Gods" between the two twins. Whis notes he is starting to understand more about Giblet and Shallot's origins as the twins match each other in power and resolve. However curiously, Shallot and Giblet's battle is halted by them feeling a sudden pain that stops them and causes them to revert to base. To make matters worse, the Mastermind is revealed to be working with another immortal incarnation of Zamasu. Majin Vegeta who had switched sides to aid Shallot joins Goku in confronting the Mastermind and Zamasu. The phantom Mastermind reveals his ultimate goal is the destruction of Universe 7, though he encourages Team Beerus to try and stop him before leaving with Giblet and Zamasu. After Shallot recovers, Beerus challenges him to another fight in order to gauge his newfound power as a god. At first, he believes Shallot to be below Goku when he first achieved Super Saiyan God, but discovers Shallot has the ability to increase his power suddenly. Whis is forced to interrupt the fight before Beerus gets carried away. Though Beerus complains at first, he eventually decides that Whis is correct as it would be unwise to destroy Shallot accidentally as he needs his power to deal with the Mastermind who he now knows threatens his Universe. Beerus and Whis also reveal that Shallot and Giblet are members of the extinct Super Saiyan God subspecies of Ancient Saiyan descended from the original Super Saiyan God who only knew defeat and were historically wiped out by the Evil Ancient Saiyans whom all modern Saiyans in Universe 7 are descended from, hence Giblet referring to modern Saiyans as "the blood of the tainted" and explains his animosity towards Goku for daring to acquire the power of a Super Saiyan God. Beerus decides to focus on locating Zamasu as his desire to exterminate all mortals makes him a serious threat on his own, as they have no idea where Giblet is. Unfortunately, Shallot's hunt for Zamasu gets interrupted by confrontations with DRK Super Buu and DRK Kid Buu, before encountering Giblet who reveals his ability to use Dark Ki in conjunction with his Super Saiyan God form. When the true Mastermind is revealed to be none other than their former ally Zahha, Beerus surprise attacks him with Hakai, though Zahha uses the Omnificence Crystal to nullify the Energy of Destruction. Afterwards Beerus complains about having to resort to such cowardly tactics such as a sneak attack only for it to fail. Demanding answers from Zahha, the Mastermind reveals that he had placed fragments of a failed prototype Super Dragon Ball in Shallot and Giblet then manipulated the two Super Saiyan Gods into fighting each other in order to complete the Omnificence Crystal. He reveals that the Omnificence Crystal is what allowed him to nullify Goku's God Kamehameha and Beerus' Hakai, before demonstrating its power further by using the Crystal to perform Hakai. Fortunately, Beerus had Bulma and Jaco transport Shallot to safety. He asked his brother and Vados to assist the surviving members of Team Beerus, should something happen to him. Fortunately, Beerus and his allies survive the Omnificence Crystal's Hakai thanks to the intervention of Whis who protected everyone remaining including Giblet who had been freed of Zahha's influence. Due to Dende going into hiding to ensure the Earth Dragon Balls can be used to fix everything once the crisis is over, Beerus elects to use The Lookout as Team Beerus' base and has Goku search for allies to strike back against Zahha. Champa hires Hit to stop Shallot from impatiently rushing back to the Ice Continent, as he is in no condition to confront Zahha due to his mental state following the revelation Zahha was an enemy. Additionally, Goku hires Hit to aid Shallot against Goku Black and Zamasu when they try to abduct Shallot as part of their own plan to usurp Zahha. Goku comes to collect Shallot after he and Hit drive off the Zamases. After Shallot recovers, Beerus decides to have Ultimate Gohan (the one freed from Super Buu) face off against Shallot to test his strength. After their sparring match, Whis decides to test Shallot himself before they discuss things further. Joined by Champa and Vados, Beerus and Whis explain what they have uncovered about the Omnificence Crystal. Beerus explains that Zahha has been using the tournament, Turles & Frost, at least two incarnations of Frieza and his Frieza Force, Dr. Gero's Red Ribbon Androids, the Organization of Babidi, and Super Cell Games to gather Kili as fuel for the Omnificence Crystal as it requires large amounts of energy to grant wishes and since Universe 7 still exists, they have a chance to strike back. However, they must avoid drawn out battles as the more they fight the more energy Zahha can collect, thus they are in a race against time to stop him before he can acquire enough energy to destroy the universe. However, Beerus is determined to bring the fight to Zahha and his team starts planning to strike back at the Mastermind's group.

He has a strong sibling rivalry with his twin brother Champa. The two tend to argue about minor trivial things such as food toppings and tend to compete over who has the better Universe. As their fighting between the two could easily destroy both Universe 6 and Universe 7, Beerus and Champa have agreed to food competitions as a way to compete without causing needless destruction, though as shown by Champa's visit to Beerus' planet during the Universe 6 Saga in the anime which resulted in a brief fight that destroyed a good portion of the room before Whis and Vados stepped in. Beerus is shown to be more mature than Champa who is more childish and tends to throw temper tantrums, though they both are gourmets who enjoy a good meal, though Champa tends to favor sweet foods, which Beerus finds childish. While he tends to argue and compete with his brother whenever they are together, he does care about Champa as shown by his wish to Super Shenron to restore the Earth of Universe 6, giving his brother his own Earth, though it may have also been his way of preventing Champa from trying to acquire the Earth of Universe 7 through another competition. When Champa is erased during the Tournament of Power, Beerus remains stoic with his eyes closed but turns to look at Champa when Champa calls out to him. After Champa is erased, Beerus remains stoic, but the fact that he is quiet and stoic, instead of his usual self, implies that he did care about Champa on some level. It should be noted that he also did not gloat or tease Champa for his loss, though this may be another example of his maturity.

Beerus is also somewhat paranoid as he is shown to not like the idea of other individuals hoping to become the next destroyer, going so far as to threaten those he thinks might be tempted.

Another trait of Beerus is that he will destroy things on a whim. This is one reason why his Universe has such a low mortal level as Beerus never gives civilizations and societies a chance to properly grow, thus the low development is similar to that of Third-World nations in real life. Old Kai notes this, viewing his destruction meaningless and regarding Beerus as nothing but bottled chaos.

Beerus is rather lazy at his job as a God of Destruction. He spends great deals of his time napping and eating rather than performing his duties as a Destroyer God, as explained by Whis when Zeno arrives at the Tournament of Destroyers. Additionally, the Gods of Destruction are responsible for eliminating threats, but Beerus, however, has rarely ever done this, allowing Frieza to operate his empire and destroy several civilizations, not interfering to eliminate Majin Buu when he killed the Supreme Kais, and not investigating New Namek's decreased energy level simply because it was too much of a hassle and there was no good food for him to eat.
