Summary[]

Goku's Super Saiyan transformation
Goku hurls his Large Spirit Bomb at Frieza; however, the tyrant is able to catch it, but can't stop it from exploding on him. The Dragon Team celebrates their apparent victory and make plans to head back to Earth. However, Frieza, badly injured by the Spirit Bomb, appears and is still powerful enough to take them all out. Frieza fires a Death Beam straight at Goku, but Piccolo pushes him out of the way and is gravely wounded as a result. Frieza then sets his eyes on Krillin and, upon sarcastically asking if he's afraid of heights, proceeds to lift him up into the air and making his body explode from the inside out, killing him instantly. Horrified and enraged by Frieza callously murdering his best friend, Goku undergoes a strange transformation that causes his eyes to turn green and his hair to turn gold and stand up on end. With his power greatly enhanced, Goku orders Gohan to take the injured Piccolo back to his spaceship, find Bulma and get off of Namek as soon as possible.
Kenji Yamamoto tracks[]
- "A Disastrous Spectacle" - When Piccolo is down, and Frieza kills Krillin shortly afterward.
- "A Moment for Shuddering" - During Goku's transformation into a Super Saiyan.
Trivia[]
- This was the highest rated episode of Dragon Ball Kai, pulling in a rating share of 12.3%. The entire series averaged a 9.4% rating share.[1]
- In the Nicktoons and Toonzai broadcasts of the episode, Goku calls Frieza a "ruthless, heartless monster" after the latter murdered Krillin, whereas in the uncut English dub (found only on the DVD and Blu-ray home video releases), he calls him a "ruthless, heartless bastard". The former was done for Nicktoons and Toonzai to keep the TV-Y7-FV rating.
- Additionally, the line "I will make you suffer" in the uncut dub was replaced with "You're going to pay for that" in the Nicktoons and Toonzai broadcasts.
- In the Nicktoons version, the part where Krillin starts glowing and inflating after screaming "GOKU!" was cut, only showing the screaming and explosion. In the Toonzai version, the part where Frieza explodes Krillin was cut out entirely.
