"A People's Pride" (民族の誇り Minzoku no Hokori) is the 84th chapter of the Dragon Ball Super manga.
Summary[]
On Planet Cereal, Goku, Vegeta, Monaito and Oatmeel are stood in uneasy shock after listening to the recording of Bardock's Scouter data, as Granolah lays unconscious and recovering. As Goku recalls more and more memories of his parents, revealing that Bardock's return to Planet Vegeta after his battle with Gas was what part of what prompted him and Gine to send him away from the planet as an infant, Goku comes to a solemn realization. He feels that he finally understands what the pride of the Saiyans is about, and that he has lost faith in his own strength. Vegeta, equally solemn, realizes that he has also lost sight of the burden of his peoples' pride that he placed on himself so long ago, focusing too much on his need to atone for his own past sins.
Vegeta expresses annoyance that it was his rival's father that led him to this realization. Vegeta notes with further annoyance that Goku and Raditz survived the destruction of Planet Vegeta into adulthood at least partially due to the wish for them to thrive made on the Dragon Balls at Bardock's behest. As the Saiyans get into a petty argument over Vegeta's soft treatment of his daughter, Monaito reflects on the curious way Bardock's will was passed on; that the pride of any tribe or people comes from accepting their nature and sticking to their convictions. He offers to further heal Goku and Vegeta, as well as giving them some Battle Armor resembling Bardock's, but the two choose to fight in their normal clothes.
Gas, still flying through space after being stranded by Goku, finally enters Instant Transmission range of Cereal and teleports outside Monaito's house. Elec tells the other Heeters to move their ship to observe the battle from a distance. The Saiyans emerge and face off against the young Heeter. Goku and Vegeta, with their newfound resolve, choose to fight together, whilst still competing to be the one to finish off Gas. Together, they transform into their Perfected Ultra Instinct and Ultra Ego forms, and attack Gas.
Whilst Gas is initially unimpressed by the duo's power, their well-coordinated combination attacks slowly begin to push him back. He becomes frustrated and lands a counterattack, punching Vegeta in the forehead before whipping Goku with a kick. The Saiyan team renew their attack with even greater co-ordination, pressing Gas backwards until he unleashes a huge, furious energy wave.
The Saiyans dodge and attack with blasts of their own but Gas escapes and deals Vegeta a heavy blow from the back with his mace. Goku continues alone whilst Vegeta recovers but is unable to withstand Gas' attacks on his own and is beaten down.
Vegeta uses the distraction to charge a Beerus Ball. Gas blocks using a solid ki shield, and Goku uses Instant Transmission to escape from Gas and help Vegeta push the attack. Gas begins to lose ground, to the concern of Macki and Oil, but Elec is confident, reasoning that since Gas' wish to become the strongest was after the Saiyans' achievement of their most powerful forms, this means that he is sure to win. Sure enough, whilst his shield is destroyed, Gas is able to begin pushing back.
Realizing the futility of the power struggle, Vegeta leaps over the rebounding attack, leaving a surprised Goku to barely hold it back himself as Vegeta attacks Gas directly. Gas sees the surprise attack coming, however, and brutally beats down Vegeta with a combination of heavy blows and prepares to finish him off. Goku struggles to deflect Vegeta's rebounded attack from one of the Sugarian cities, managing to throw it into space. He returns to assist Vegeta just as the Saiyan Prince finally lands a furious punch to Gas' face. Gas is confused by Vegeta's increased strength despite the extensive damage to his body. Vegeta boasts that damage is merely fuel for his Ultra Ego state, and that he is getting even stronger.
