Summary

With Goku out of commission, Frieza has appeared again to challenge Jiren, bringing Android 17 with him. Jiren thinks this is a futile display of trust, but Frieza assures him that his only goal is to obtain the Super Dragon Balls. After the three of them battle for a time Frieza reaffirms that Jiren has indeed grown physically and mentally weaker, terrified at the possibility of returning to the weakling he once was. This provokes the Pride Trooper to retaliate, but 17 interferes and blasts him . Jiren falls to his knees, flabbergasting Universe 11. 17 then leaves Frieza to finish it. "Honored" by his trust, Frieza steps forward to finish Jiren off. He then prepares a Golden Death Beam to do his opponent in. Jiren is unmoved, too immoralized to even look as Frieza expresses disappointment of being unable to look at him. From the bleachers, Top attempts to encourage Jiren to stand up, believing in his strength with all earnest.

Goku, 17, and Frieza shatter Jiren's wall of energy

Top's speech motivates Jiren to stand up. Unleashing his power, he counterattacks Frieza, forcing him and 17 to desperately combine their power to hold back his blast with Frieza's Golden form dissipating out. As the two struggle, Goku returns to his feet and comes to their aid, to the two's shock. He then joins them in holding off Jiren to prevent Universe 7's loss. Seeing Goku back to his feet, Jiren then pumps up more power as he pushes back, as Goku praises him for his journey in becoming strong. As Frieza angrily reminds Goku of his promise, Goku tells Frieza to keep the end of his bargain so he can keep his, while Frieza becomes grateful of his nemesis' naive nature, for now. Goku, Frieza, and 17's combined blast breaks through Jiren's wall of energy, and Goku and Frieza rush forward to fight him together.

Frieza Goku Finale Attack

Goku and Frieza combine their power to defeat Jiren

In the bleachers, Krillin and specifically Vegeta, are both surprised at the sight of Goku and Frieza fighting side-by-side against a common foe. While the two of them engage Jiren in hand-to-hand combat, 17 supports them from behind with a volley of energy blasts. Jiren finally breaks through Goku and Frieza's assault and goes after 17, so Frieza has Goku throw him at Jiren. Frieza tackles Jiren and flies downward, trying to ring them both out, but Jiren overcomes him. Goku catches up with them and joins Frieza in pushing Jiren out of the ring, while flickering in and out of Super Saiyan at the same time. As Beerus and Team Universe 7 cheer them on, the combined might of Goku and Frieza at last succeeds in forcing Jiren out of bounds as the Pride Trooper realizes the power of trust, ending the tournament in a triple elimination. Goku, Frieza, and Jiren all materialize in the bleachers. With Jiren eliminated, the Grand Minister formally announces the defeat of Universe 11. As they prepare to be erased, Jiren recieves thanks for his efforts, despite his cold treatment of his teammates. Goku then expresses his desire to fight Jiren again; he thinks they both got stronger by fighting one another and is eager to meet Jiren again sometime. While baffled, Jiren graces one last smile before he and Universe 11 all disappear.

The Grand Minister tells Super Shenron to revive the erased universes

Now only Android 17 remains in the arena as the winner and gets to have a wish granted, The Super Dragon Balls appear above as reward, and the Grand Minister speaks the Divine Language to summon forth Super Shenron. While hesitant at first, he wishes to restore all the destroyed universes. The Grand Minister repeats this wish in the divine language, and Super Shenron departs. In the newly restored Universe 6, Caulifla and Kale rejoice to find themselves alive again, while Cabba tearfully rejoices that Vegeta kept his promise. Caulifla forces Cabba to help her and Kale train to reach Super Saiyan 3. Off on his own, Champa refuses to thank his brother. Universes 10, 3, 2, 9, 4, and 11 are likewise restored. In Universe 11, Jiren reflects on Goku's desire to meet again, but believes himself too hung up on his past to ever form a bond with anyone else around him. As Top discusses Jiren's disposition in the bout, he vows along with Top that they will triumph the next time they battle Goku and the others.

Frieza Revived ToP

Team Universe 7 surprised at Whis reviving Frieza

Back in the Null Realm, Android 18 worriedly confides to his brother on his wish. Android 17 expresses his content as Goku thanks him for his deed. Frieza jnterrupts, and asks to be taken back to Hell, not wanting them celebrate their happy endings due to his wicked character. In response, Whis joyfully brings Frieza back to life as a present from Beerus for his performance. Frieza refuses to repent, as Goku warns him that he will put him down again. The Omni-Kings fly down and greet Goku, expressing joy at the tournament. Later, the Minister reveals that a selfish wish made by the tournament's winner would result in erasure of everything, to the Universe 7 deities' utter bafflement. The Omni-Kings ask Goku what they should do next, but Beerus and Shin panic and stop Goku from uttering anything that will endanger them again. The Grand Minister congratulates Universe 7 on their splendid fight and wish, and Goku promises to come back sometime and see the Omni-Kings again. And so, the tournament for the fate of the universe concludes, with everyone returning to Capsule Corporation to watch the sunrise.

As the credits roll, Vegeta is tearfully greated by Bulma, who grabs him with their daughter in her arms. Krillin, Androids 17 and 18 return to the animal sancutary, where they are greeted by Marron and a heavily battered Goten and Trunks, who subdued a bunch of poachers in their absence. Gohan returns home, where Mr. Satan and Buu are sleeping; Pan is playing with Piccolo's head, despite her parents' attempts to stop her. Tien uses the money Bulma gave him to begin repairing his village, while Master Roshi spends some time at Korin Tower. Goku returns home with Goten, where Chi-Chi is not too pleased to hear about the Tournament of Power nearly wiping out their universe.

The gang all celebrate Bulla's birth some more, with Marron, Goten and Trunks helping set up. Goku, Vegeta, Whis and Beerus are all eating heartily, much to the surprise of Gohan. Pilaf, Shu and Mai collapse at the idea of having to work out a lot of dishes. Bulma, Krillin and 18 video chat with 17, who she lent her cruise ship to travel around the world. As everyone fawns over Bulla, Vegeta smiles in satisfacition until he sees Pan flying around; she flies right into him, giving him a bump on his noggin. Goku laughs, prompting Vegeta to gesture over at the yard; Goku nods in agreement. Both turn Super Saiyan Blue and start sparring, much to exasperation of their wives. However, everyone elses just watches on with smiles.

Goku and Vegeta Battle Once More

Goku and Vegeta reenact their first battle as Super Saiyan Blues

Frieza returns to the remains of his army out in space, while Goku and Vegeta spar against each other in the wastelands on Earth. The two both use their Super Saiyan Blue forms, since it turns out Goku is unable to activate Ultra Instinct at will; it seems that it was something that only happened accidentally in the harsh conditions of the tournament. Hearing this, Vegeta vows to obtain an even greater power. Goku says they can both get stronger and stronger, and Vegeta agrees that a Saiyan's strength has no limits. Goku and Vegeta continue to spar as life goes on in Universe 7.

Trivia

  • The title is similar to that of the Dragon Ball GT finale Until We Meet Again.
  • In the original Fuji TV broadcast version of this episode, the ending shows scenes of Dragon Ball Super: Broly. The Funimation Now and Crunchyroll version does not have this and kept the original ending scenes.
  • This is the first time that Goku and Frieza really fight together.
  • Team Universe 7 cheering Goku and Frieza on to finish Jiren is similar to Goku being cheered on to finish Kid Buu in the Kid Buu Saga.
  • The final scene between Goku and Vegeta in their fighting poses alludes to the first time they fought against each other back during the Vegeta Saga.
  • The presence of surviving members of the Frieza Force was earlier implied in Resurrection ‘F’ when Frieza, while taunting Vegeta, referred to the latter as being the "Prince of no one" despite his own forces having already been wiped out.
  • Judging by the silent picture during the credits, its very likely the reason Chi Chi was freaking out was because Goku told her about the stakes of the Tournament of Power.
  • Angels are capable of reviving the dead.
  • Using the Super Dragon Balls to restore universes also revives those who lived in them, including those who were erased outside of them; it also seems to restore them to full health and repair any damage to their clothes (which is most noticible for Top and Jiren, who lost half their Pride Trooper uniforms and were heavily exhausted).
