Due to recent requests from users, we've decided to add further explanations to Guideline Number 1 to better flesh out user conduct on this site. The guideline we're going to flesh out is as follows...
1. Be nice and treat people with respect. Keep discussions civil and be open-minded about differing opinions. Trolling is not tolerated.
While this is a good umbrella for any and all communications, the deeper meaning needs to be explained as we will from here on be enforcing this on a more strict level.
1.2 Respect must be maintained in all discussions. Passive-aggressive behavior, offhanded or snide remarks—including ungraciously nonchalant, derogatory, or mocking comments—will not be tolerated. Additionally, any statements designed to provoke a negative reaction from others are prohibited.
1.3 In addition to the above, debaters are expected to also remain polite. Disagreement with an opinion is welcome, but should be expressed in a way that does not degrade, harm, shame, goad, disrespect, or bait another user into a negative response. Each user is responsible for their own comments. If a discussion becomes too heated, users are encouraged to step away without needing to provide an explanation for mental health reasons.
We hope that adding these things will help the community reach its fullest potential and make communications here kinder, more respectful, and welcoming to other users both old and new, regardless of their opinions.
To summarize, the best thing to remember is to "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you" as well as remembering that "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all". If this mindset is maintained, following the above guidelines should be quite easy. At the end of the day, remember that this is just an internet forum and encyclopedia for a fandom. We're here for fun and enjoyment, so let us enjoy our time here with each other while we have it.
Happy posting and happy debating!
