Yes, this is being said.

"Iconic" sure, but Inferno honestly finds it very overrated. The buildup isn't exactly all that. If anything, it felt more like just a title with all the constant Zenkai abuse in the Namek Arc, as in the person who defeated Frieza would be "the legendary super saiyan", and it even helps that Vegeta randomly switched from it being him to Goku.
Movies 4 and 5 sort of help Inferno's point here as well. Goku transformed into the Pseudo form against Slug and dominated him for a while, with King Kai in shock. But it fails, and at the end, when he actually defeats Slug, it's reiterated that he may be a Super Saiyan after all, since he defeated a Super Namekian.
Little less with Cooler, but he mocks Goku about being a "super saiyan", and when he actually transforms into it, he's simply shocked at the change. He doesn't say anything like woah, so it's true. These make it feel like it's just a title. The golden-haired form itself has no buildup.
Introduction-wise, the scene is cool and all, but Goku vs Frieza was honestly better before SSJ. It went from having actual strategy, like the Kamehameha torpedoes, to them basically just smacking eachother around. Correct Inferno if wrong, because Inferno hasn't watched the full fight in a while, and all the scenes remembered are exactly that.
And people try to blame the Buu Saga for making it "not special", but was it ever, really? It seems like, to Inferno, it would've stopped right after Namek. Some random teen with an attitude shows up and uses this super-rare legendary transformation, and it's even worse in the manga version, because he already had it before Gohan's oh-so tragic death. (I'm sure we can all agree the special did better, but Inferno digresses.)
Vegeta quite literally got it by whining, Gohan got it off-screen in the manga by seemingly just powering up a lot. All the emotional mush was filler.
(You guys need to give the anime more credit, because it's carrying this form so hard right now....)
Goten and Trunks added to this, sure, but it's not the "start" of anything. Same applies to the U6 Saiyans with the tingly back thing. By the Cell Saga, it were as if it had always been there.
Super Broly honestly had the most emotional first SSJ transformation since Goku's.

So, yeah. SSJ1 is cool and iconic, everyone tried it when they were kids, but Inferno thinks it's long overdue for someone to point this out.
As always, this is just an opinion, so if you disagree, sweet. Just don't incite any toxicity in this post.
