- During the Cell Saga, we saw Vegeta and Future Trunks enter the Hyperbolic Time Chamber as part of their training to defeat the Androids and later Semi-Perfect Cell.
Thanks to training together, they both learned Super Saiyan Second Grade and Super Saiyan Third Grade, with Vegeta wise enough not to use the latter as it slowed a fighter down too much (although he neglected to share this information with his Future son).
- In any case, we got the events that followed; Vegeta letting Cell become Perfect over the promise of a better fight despite Future Trunks' efforts to stop him (Vegeta getting beaten to a pulp by the bug man as a result), with Future Trunks then been humiliated by Perfect Cell when he pointed out the flaws of the third grade Super Saiyan form; only sparing Trunks due to wanting to test his strength against the Z-Fighters in a Tournament.
In the original, Vegeta would later go back in the chamber by himself but come out disappointed by his lack of gains, while Trunks also apparently went back in alone as his hair went from this to this by the time of the Cell Games.
- However, what if Trunks went in with Vegeta for a second time; either by convincing his Dad that they would make more gains together than apart, or by him forcing his way in as both he and his Dad have some "issues" to work through?
Do you think it would make any difference against Perfect Cell (and beyond), or do you think things would mostly just play out the same now and afterwards for both the main timeline and Future Trunks' timeline?
Curious to see what you guys think.
I still see a lot of people talk about this
When you think about it though, it might not have been as bad as an idea as you would think. Hear me out, what really would’ve changed if Cell didn’t hav the sensu bean? Just think about it
When Cell took the bean, it was hinting Cell that Gohan really did have a lot of hidden potential that could’ve been released in that battle, showing that Cell would’ve needed to be at full power to handle him. As Cell knew he was the most poweful fighter and nobody could stop him, He was very cocky about it which is why he hosted the tournament in the first place. As a way to play with them, obviously to show the full extent of his power he wanted to fight the most powerful combatants. When Cell would learn that Gohan would really have that much power inside, Cell would play with Gohan and try to mess with his head like summoning the Cell Jrs to attack his friends, squeezing him to trigger him to transform and crushing 16’s head. Maybe Cell wouldn’t have done all that if he wasn’t fully powered up, showing that Goku expected Gohan to finish the job since he wasn’t at full power. Therefore Cell wouldn’t think that Gohan would have that potential, and he would just go straight to killing Gohan. Basically, Cell believed that Goku knew what he was doing so he followed along to truly prove that he’s the unstoppable warrior. Maybe he even reflected back when Vegeta let Cell absorb 18, so he was willing to give Gohan the chance to tap into Super Saiyan 2.
Or maybe it could’ve been Cell simply paying Goku back for the sensu bean by allowing Goku to see what Gohan can do instead of straight up killing him.
So in theory, Goku may have been right. At least that’s what I believe
Although the SECOND sensu bean accident was totally on Goku. I don’t think Goku has any good excuses for that
This is inspired by a YouTube short I saw about it lol. Not to try and steal DeltaSquad's thunder or anything, but I just found the short so interesting I wanted to make a post about it.

Basically, the obvious premise is that instead of Goku taking Gohan into the chamber, he decides to team up with Vegeta instead. Now, how Vegeta would be convinced to go in with Goku is the hard part, since at this point in the story all he wants to do is fight and kill Goku, and given his ego, he'd most likely want to unlock a power beyond Goku's on his own accord; he would especially not want to get strong by training with the man he wants to kill, which could just allow Goku to surpass him. Anyway, for the sake of the What-If, let's say it goes down like this:
Goku talks to Vegeta after hearing from Trunks how Vegeta wants nothing to do with him, and explains how he believes there is a power beyond that of a Super Saiyan, like in canon. Since Vegeta doesn't want to train with his son, he could just train with him instead, to which Vegeta kisses his teeth and rudely brushes off before he can finish. Goku tells Vegeta to calm down, and to let him finish, elaborating by saying that him and Vegeta are similar in power, and that they are the world's best chance at defeating the androids. He also reasons that if they aren't able to beat the androids, they'll all end up dead, Vegeta will go to Hell, and then they'll never be able to fight each other. Vegeta mulls this over for awhile, and Goku looks on at Vegeta with a hopeful and determined grin, as the wind blows past the two, the only noise breaking into the intense silence between the men that seems like it could burst at a moment's notice. Vegeta then turns his head sideways towards Goku, saying "You'd better be ready to fight me after we eradicate this "Cell" monstrosity." Vegeta says in an intimidating and serious manner. Goku holds up and clenches his fist, replying with an enthusiastic "Alright! You got it." The two then fly to The Lookout, where they get gear from Bulma.
Everyone there is stunned to hear that Vegeta is going to train with Goku, and Vegeta staunchly replies that this alliance is only temporary, and that Goku is his next target, smiling over at Goku with a menacing grin as he does so, to which Goku just responds to with a determined grin of his own. Goku then looks over to Trunks and entrusts him with training Gohan. He says that he is as good a candidate as any to teach his son Super Saiyan, as he has had it for longer than any of the other Saiyans here, and that his master must've been a good one if he taught his student how to become so strong and to be able to persevere so long. Trunks accepts this request, nodding his head, turning to the eager and determined Gohan, and tears up a little as he thinks to himself "I'd never thought I'd be carrying on your legacy like this master...but I'll be sure to make you proud." With that, everyone looks on at Goku and Vegeta with hope in their hearts, as the two Saiyans walk into the blinding light of the Time Chamber.
What do you guys think would happen?
