Why do Saiyans maintain such a low population?

It is estimated by fans that the population of Planet Vegeta before Frieza's destruction was 10,000 Saiyans.

The question is knowing that the Dragon Ball universe is huge, why won't the Saiyans colonize planets and grow their population?

It didn't have to be something massive like the Imperium of Man which has over 10 quadrillion humans or the Star Wars galaxy which has over 100 quadrillion sentient beings.

My doubt is why the Saiyans didn't colonize a dozen planets to grow the population or even increase the population of the planet Vegeta?

They must have believed in a pure bloodline. Until Gohan was born, there had been absolutely no Saiyan hybrids. Also, it’s to my understanding that Saiyans didn’t care much for their children. I mean, as soon as they were able to crawl, they were sent to other worlds to subjugate them so Planet Vegeta could sell them. Countless Saiyans must die before they even reach maturity. Plus for a long time, they were controlled by the Cold Force and then the Frieza Force. They probably had restrictions on how many Saiyans could be born 🤷🏾‍♂️ my best guess. Other than that, I really don’t know.
